We had lunch there twice during the week. The young waitresses are polite, but really need better training. The first time we had to ask for bread for the mussels (typically it comes with bread), and my husband got the wrong order. We thought ok, we'll give it a try with our kids. The 2nd time we went will definitely be our last! How is it acceptable to give a burger on a bun, NO condiments, no lettuce, tomato or even chips on the side?! My daughter's crab cake sandwich was the same; a crab cake on a bun with NOTHING ELSE! We had to ask for everything! My son's mussels were mostly closed, so 1 dozen of them was completely inedible. The waitress seemed so bothered that we had to ask for ketchup & tarter sauce. And even surprised when I asked for a new order of mussels so my son could eat his meal. They know most customers are there for a week & they do not go out of their way to make it a nice meal; knowing most people won't be back. I highly doubt any Ocean City locals eat there. Oves is the only open air restaurant ON THE BEACH serving dinner in OC. 4th and the Boardwalk. Nightly specials are awesome, especially the sesame encrusted tuna and "Flounder Oves"..... my hungry family loves that meals come with a hearty dinner salad, bread and two sides (onion rings recommended).... have a picky eater? No problem, the kids menu is basic and accommodating. Good vibe, chill beach scene and food never disappoints. PS. If you are a chowder fan, the "corn crab" is the best I have ever had. read more

I'm just going to go ahead and say it, this is my favorite restaurant on the east coast of the United States. Every summer my family and I come down for a week and we usually stay at the other end of the island. Every morning, my wife and I will bike over 40 blocks just to get their fresh apple cider donuts! The powdered donuts are to die for, as well as their breakfast sandwiches. Reading all these complaints gets my gears grinding because it's just fake reviews. Oves is probably my favorite place for seafood in Ocean City. Their dinner prices are average for what you're getting, but the quality is great, and someone in the kitchen really knows what they are doing. I usually get either the fried or baked seafood combination platter. Both come with amazing flounder and scallops. The fried then adds a few fried shrimp, a fried oyster, a deviled crab, and a deviled clam. The baked has a crab cake and a lobster tail as well. Everything has a great flavor, and is cooked perfectly. I've had a few other great seafood dishes there as well, but I keep on coming back for the combinations. Oves is also well known for their breakfast. If you see a huge line out front, it's for the donuts, and that's for good reason. Their fresh apple cider donuts are amazing and light. Try and get there early if you're interested as people in line after 8 AM usually order dozens at a time, and you may end up waiting for a while. If you get there when there's a line I suggest getting a breakfast sandwich while you wait since that menu is pretty cheap, and everything is great. What a disappointment! How do you ruin breakfast?! All of our pancakes were OVERCOOKED so the outside was tough. Our potatoes were UNDERCOOKED and hard. Our eggs were 'weird.' That was the best description we could come up with because they were okay, if a little cold. The portion was odd. I've NEVER had an egg that was so small. We told the waiter about our disappointment but he was either inexperienced and didn't know when a customer complains about a meal you go and get the owner or the manager OR he just didn't care (despite the fact that he said he would tell someone)! Of course, they all could be told to smile and tell the customer you'll tell someone and then just blow it off. You never know. To make matters worse, I spoke to the owner at the register and she seemed passé about it. First, she smiled because she THOUGHT I was going to tell her the meal was great and when I said it was very disappointing she apparently didn't know what to say which is more than a little frightening. In the end, she basically gave me a half shrug and mumbled something and I left. This experience goes to show that restaurants that are around too long can so easily slip into apathy because, like the owner's initial expression, they expect there to be a good report. Shame on the owner who could have easily rectified the situation any number of ways. So, buyer beware. If you do go to Oves on the Boardwalk and do not like your meal. Complain, and do it loudly. Don't waste your time or money at this place. I should have taken the hint that there was no wait to get in when every other place we passed had a line. The twelve year old that was "running" things upstairs was more interested in bossing around the other staff than taking care of her own customers. I ordered donuts in each flavor for my family to try and they were pretty good, we should have stopped there. It was bad enough that the food was bland but it was cold too! Gratuity included for party of 8+ is a BAD idea. Waitress never came over to ask if we needed anything. We only saw her when it was time for the bill. It took way too long to Recieve our food on a Sunday night when the place wasn't at max. The food was poor to mediocre at best (fried flounder and shrimp had the texture and consistency of beef jerky) and the prices were outrageous for the amount of food you received. $3.95 for a very meager serving of soggy fries, $9.95 for a very small serving of calamari, to name a few. Definitely not good seafood for an ocean city restaurant. Will never return. read more

Always my favorite place to come for breakfast in the morning, food is great and wait staff is excellent, the manger however was very very rude, we wanted to sit upstairs at our regular table, we asked our waitress and she said she would make the acceptation for us, after we sat down, we asked to see the manger due to a confrontation with a staff member on our way up stairs, as we came to find out that the staff member was the manger, she began to yell at us and make us feel unwelcome, as we were eating we could hear her talking about us downstairs and saying very rude things to her staff, no longer our fun and loving place we knew it as. read more

I had grand plans to take my toddler for a bike ride and an apple cider donut on the boardwalk during our vacation. Of course the day I decided to do so, he woke up in a bad mood and was pretty much a fussy jerk all morning. I decided to take him anyway, and by the time we got there I was pretty overwhelmed and not in a great mood myself. The man who came to help us with our rental bike was so patient with my son and I. It was probably pretty obvious that I was not having a great day, and my son was throwing a tantrum on the back of the bike while I was paying and getting myself set up. The man asked if a donut might help, and brought us a donut fresh from the oven. It helped. When I asked him how much I owed him, he said, "nothing," and that he "had connections." I assume this man is the owner of the restaurant, and I was so grateful for his patience and kindness in that moment. My son and I had a great bike ride and an even better donut (I could eat an entire dozen myself), and both returned in a much better mood. Thank you, Oves! read more

This is a staple for my group; we visit every time we come to OCNJ. The service is always good, the food is high quality and the view is wonderful. Prices are very reasonable for the location and type of food as well. I love the broiled scallops which are always fresh and perfectly cooked. We usually enjoy this place WHEN it's open. But they have the most bizarre seating policies for lunch and dinner. Only seat at certain hours for certain meals, and they don't have times listed on their website. Place is pretty far down past where most businesses end on the boardwalk, so need to go down in person to see if they're seating. Most recent trip, we wanted to eat lunch there, walked up at 11:30 and asked the hostess if they were serving lunch. She says "not yet". We ask when and she replies with "I don't know, maybe later". We went for breakfast and it was very yummy but overpriced for what we got. The seats were wet and cold and the tables didn't look like they had been wiped down before breakfast hours began. Yesterday 4 of us arrived at Oves around 4:30-5PM for dinner. I am 70 and my companion is around 80. The restaurant was almost empty with over 10 empty tables. Our companion couple was parking the car, and Oves refused to seat us until they arrived - we had to wait outside. We are loyal customers, and have dined at the restaurant on numerous occasions including the off season when the boardwalk is dying for customers. I totally get their delayed seating rule when there is a line waiting to be seated in a crowded setting, but this was not the situation. The greeting we received was very rude and showed contempt for the customer. They were very unwelcoming, and it is doubtful that we will ever return. read more

This has been our go-to breakfast spot on the northern end for quite a few years. Great fresh fruit cup, THE best donuts in the area, & friendly, on-the-ball waitstaff. We decided to give it a try for dinner-& were pleasantly surprised! The seafood combo was a great choice. We did not have dessert, so can't comment on that. Please note-they have started taking names for dinner time-so don't wait in line without giving your name first. Oves also has a great walk-up window for some donuts, water ice & lunch to take on to the beach. I did have an issue with who I think was an owner accuse another customer of not paying for her meal-when the mother was simply going to the atm on premises to get cash to pay for their meal. I need to update....I was too harsh earlier. Tonight we had a decent meal, which was made better by the convenience of the boardwalk. This is probably the best meal you can get in the boardwalk, so I feel the need to update. My parents had the crab and corn bisque (I think - it looked like a bisque) and it was delicious! I had the stuffed lobster that was only slightly over cooked...but not enough to terribly upset me. The rest of the order included burgers, which tasted flame broiled and delicious. Plus, they had a live musician which is what bumped my review from three to four stars. A great ambiance and I will keep visiting oves, just not at an apparent change of shift. As a frequent visitor to Ocean City we can see Oves from our Condo, so naturally we would like to dine here several times a week but the food is close to inedible. Yes, it was almost end of season and yes, they were actively getting ready to shut down for 2013, but they didn't show us the respect they seemed to expect from us. They had only one waitress on duty,while several others did shut down tasks. They also had only one person cooking. We found this out when we asked after 15 or 20 minutes of waiting for our food order, "What has happened to our order"? The surly older woman behind the counter then said to our waitress, "He wants is lunch", in a nasty tone, as if I were asking for some unheard of favor. We ordered a hamburger and a grilled cheese sandwich. Not hard for a single cook to handle. But that cook was cleaning the grill instead of cooking, until I asked about our food. This was our third or fourth visit to Ove's and it will be our last. The wait staff is OK, but the people who seem to run the place, behind the counter, are snotty and surly. The overall service has always been slow and the wait staff has to make excuses for the kitchen. The food is nothing special, except for the donuts, which are pretty good, but don't go in to eat. Delicious restaurant with dinner seafood prices from $18-24 and sandwiches / other foods for much less. We couldn't get over how affordable the fresh seafood was here - coming from NYC everything is so expensive in comparison. Plus the portion sizes are huge and each dinner plate comes with two sides. We went to Spadafora's during our trip last year and hated it (maybe they had a bad cook that night?) so I was researching yelp for a good seafood place this year. This was so much better and we ended up eating here twice for dinner and once for breakfast (blueberry pancakes, yum) because we loved it so much. And we also went to get apple cider donuts on a separate occasion from their outdoor stand. If you go for breakfast, ask for a seat upstairs. The view of the beach is so nice on a peaceful morning. And they had live music one of the nights we did dinner which was great. Highly recommend the broiled seafood combination (regular menu item) and the tuna, scallop and shrimp skewers with wild rice and veggies (nightly special item) if they have it. read more

Food was ok. Take out area staff was horrible! They need to be re-trained. Went there 3 times. Should have stayed away the first time. All three times they forgot to give us at least one sandwich out of our order. Once we asked for our food to be bagged and one of the gentlemen (kids, rather) just threw a bag down on the counter, and walked away. My husband's meal came with fried potatoes. I guess he was supposed to eat them with his hands because they never gave him utensils or bothered to offer any. I had to ask for jelly for my English muffin. (I guess they just assume most people eat it dry/plain?) Then, I had to ask for another packet of jelly because after about 3 minutes of looking for jelly packets, he came back and only gave me one. I'm also guessing that I was supposed to put the jelly on my English muffin with my fingers, too. I was never offered any utensils and had to ask again for some. (Even after he gave me the jelly.) Why do they not have out condiments and plastic ware for patrons to simply grab is beyond me. But, I shouldn't have to beg for them!!! read more

During my summer endeavors last August, a large group of about 30 of us decided to take a trip to Oves and it was a wonderful dining experience. We sat upstairs and were served by two very attentive waitresses- I believe their names were Alexa and Calin - who accommodated our large party exceptionally well. My wife and I couldn't have picked a more perfect location to celebrate our Anniversary dinner. Despite Oves being quite busy, and us being overlooked several minutes by the hostess, once we were seated it was an absolute delight. Our server was extremely pleasant, and immediately took our order. We were served oyster crackers and horseradish, along with fresh bread. My garden salad was terrific, and offered the perfect amount of flavor. My coconut shrimp was ABSOLUTELY TO DIE FOR, along with the raspberry sauce served on the side. Coleslaw was also extremely tasty. No doubt one of the best sit-down meals that I have ever received in my entire life. Sitting on the boardwalk, listening to a live guitarist play our favorite songs, perfect weather, and most of all, my perfect girl... life couldn't get better then that. Thank you! Just when i think this place can't get any worse....they continue to prove me wrong ‍ I'm giving one star for its location to the beach and another star because the food is pretty good....when they actually get your order correct....and when you aren't waiting 45 minutes for the one French fry you ordered... I have been coming here for at least 15 years with my husbands family and it used to be such a great place...I don't know what happened but the fact that 10 year olds run the snack bar area during the day is one of them...the disorganization of taking orders, remembering if they rang you up, getting the orders to you...in full...with the correct items, is just horrible. My family had I'd say half the orders we placed this week wrong it took me about ten minutes to get one water ice the one day and I was about to reach through the window and scoop my own out because I honestly don't think anyone would of noticed if I did. the biggest ordeal of the week that just completely put me over the edge was when I ordered an 8 lb bag of ice that they advertise for $4, good deal...however, they managed to surprise me yet again and screw that up by not being able to find the bags the ice go in!! Two kids spent at least a solid five minutes aimlessly walking around looking for the bags. Why are these bags not under or around the ice machine you ask? Beats me!! I mean that would be the most logical place to put them....but despite the efforts of the dazed looking kids that work there and me having to listen to music that was spewing out "motherf***ing" this and "motherf***ing" that as I waited with 4 children...I still was without ice. So I politely asked the kid who rang me up for my ice that I was apparently not getting now, for a shopping bag full of ice so I could fill my cooler and call it a day...he was polite enough to offer my money back which I gladly accepted and would of asked for anyways if he didn't. The only reason this place stays open is because of convenience to the beach....whoever runs this place should be ashamed of how horrible the customer service is. I'm speaking mainly for the snack bar area as I haven t eaten in the restaurant in a couple years because of the day service at the snack bar. I mean I know you know you are the only place that can apparently sell food within a certain space from that beach, but please have some respect for all the people who continue to come here....despite the fact that they know they are taking a chance they won't get what they ordered anyways. read more
