We loved their online portfolio and came to Ozzie, Owner, with a very complex large and tall retaining wall project for our backyard. We enjoyed working with their team so much that after our backyard was completed, we signed on to do our front yard and driveway with them! After our initial meeting with Ozzie and Christine, Designer, they knew right from the get-go that our project will need to go through the 3-6 month permitting process with the City of Seattle. They also let us know early on that a structural engineer, geotech, and site surveyor were needed and they would be handling the coordination process. We felt confident in signing the contract after our meeting since they were detailed in explaining the entire process to us from design conception, permitting, to construction. Christine came to us with fantastic designs, while making our challenging backyard as usable as possible with the large retaining wall. She listened to our needs, made design adjustments to fit our lifestyle, and also stopped us from making decisions that would not benefit us (very important!). She quickly turned around updated drawings and renderings and gave us great suggestions on where to shop for materials to create our desired look and feel for our backyard. Ozzie got us through permitting smoothly and we were ready to start construction! He and his team were amazing throughout the entire process. We encountered several material delays that were outside of anyone's control and he was very communicative on timelines while we waited for things to arrive. We had Oz and his team redo our backyard in May of 2021: They added patio pavers, replaced some old janky stairs, built out a new paver patio area, and added a much nicer facade to our retaining wall. This was quite an extensive extensive job and -- 6 months later -- we are still very happy with how things turned out. I've attached some before- and 6-months-after- pics to show how well the improvements have stood up over time. I do have to mention that we recently (Jan 2022) had some drainage issues with the new side pathway where water was pooling and running into a basement window-well of our house. Not only did Oz's team show up within a day of us calling them back, but they immediately set up a temporary barrier to mitigate any further flooding. They then came back later that week, fixed the drainage line issue, and re-graded the pathway so that any surface water now directs away from the house. These types of issues happen sometimes, but the immediate response and accountability we got from Oz and his team speak volumes! read more

Outdoor Design by Oz exceeded our expectations across the board on our hardscaping project. We are fortunate here in Seattle to have many great choices for contractors, but Outdoor Design by Oz is a cut above the rest in my opinion. Yes, they can be pricey, but the sheer quality of the work made the investment in our property well worth it. Our designer Christine Dwyer brought a wonderful design esthetic and also an eagerness to listen to our ideas and to help give them shape. The end result looks great but is also unmistakably ours. Looking back, we had a lot of fun with the creative process, even though the choices could sometimes be overwhelming! When it came to execution, the crew were simply exemplary. Throughout the project, the crew and supervisors (Renato, Alex, Radames) consistently asked for our feedback and went the extra mile to add little touches that elevated our space. Ozzie was in touch with us through the last stages of the project ensuring that everything was to our liking. This is a company full of good people you will want to become friends with. OVER PRICED AND TERRIBLE COMMUNICATION. I own several properties in the area and have worked closely with several vendors and contractors. My experience with Outdoor Design is by far the worst. The tech NO SHOWED the first appointment and didn't even bother to call back. Since I believe in second chances, I reluctantly reached back out and rescheduled. Afterwards he sent back a quote WELL OVER 2x what others are asking. The quote contained no line items for their work. When I asked for the line item breakdown he shot back, "we need 10% deposit before proceeding - company policy". What a JOKE. I will NEVER give my business to anyone who is unwilling to show me EXACTLY what I am paying for!! STAY AWAY!!! read more

Ozzie and his crew took our neglected, unusable backyard space and turned it into a beautiful hardscaped oasis. We purchased our home in September and knew immediately the backyard space needed some updating. We quoted out the work with a few companies but Ozzie helped us develop a design and was super responsive from the start, even following up to see if we had any additional questions between conversations. The demo and project team became like family as they worked tirelessly for months on our project. We looked forward to seeing them each day. Their eye for detail is amazing. They always checked with us for design decisions and were never frustrated when we tweaked scope after they'd started on something. They're professional, dedicated and friendly. During the big rain in December, our basement flooded. Coming from sunny Southern California, we didn't have the first clue how to tackle the flood. Our project manager didn't hesitate and jumped right in to help us move furniture, pump out water and helped troubleshoot a solution to stop the water flow. He worked until 7pm on a Saturday night just to make sure we were in an okay place before leaving. 100% recommend Ozzie and his team to anyone looking for an upgrade to their outdoor space. When I started looking at remodeling my backyard, I knew I could trust Outdoor Designs by Oz. I've known the owner, Ozzie, for a long time, we went to high school together and took some design classes back in school. There were drainage issues, grading issues, left over buried stumps by a lazy builder - all these things were not only corrected, but Ozzie and his crew exceeded my expectations. They are truly artists and I watched them rework areas if they weren't perfect in their eyes. had misfortune of crossing paths with this company in the process of developing a patio for our home. They sent a representative who provided a very attractive quote. This quote was conveniently devoid of dimensions of any kind, as well as details of the materials to be used. The moment I paid their nonrefundable 10% deposit, the estimator was conveniently replaced with someone else who insisted that somehow our project scope had changed and as a result our "estimate" increased 150%. Suspicious, we went about obtaining four other quotes for the project and found that this company had intended to charge over $10,000 more than even their most expensive competitor. The lack of details in provided estimates, the non-refundable deposit, and bait and switch tactics are designed to leave customers with no recourse but to over-pay. There are many other landscape companies in the Puget sound area. I would recommend going with literally any other outfit. read more

What can I say about Outdoor Designs? My husband and I are BEYOND satisfied with the work Ozzie and his crew has done on our walkway! After meeting Ozzie at the home show, we had him come out and do a bid against two other contractors. Not only did he come up with a more imaginative design (which was exactly our tastes), but he came in considerably less expensive on the square footage. This allowed us budget-wise to have him add stairs to the project...which we were so glad we did! That is a particular showstopper since they light up underneath at night! Another excellent feature of the walkway is a rotunda that Ozzie came up with, serving as an excellent patio front for our cottage. Another plus, even though 2 weeks was the expectation on the duration of the project, it came in at six days! Ozzie is an excellent communicator and you'll see his talents immediately when given you a quote. We spent months researching contractors for our backyard project and got a half dozen quotes before we met Ozzie. Proposals varied greatly in price and quality, but none felt quite right. Coming across ads for the Flower and Garden show, we learned that Outdoor Design by Oz, among other hardscape companies would be there, and we looked them up online. Immediately, we were intrigued by his project renderings posted online and knew we wanted to learn more. When we met at the show, we just knew he was the right guy for the job. We gave him the low-down on our project and crossed our fingers that his timeline would match up with our completion date. Ozzie helped us in creating a space that worked for our family. He was very thorough in his design and left no detail untouched. When we approved final design, next came selecting pavers and color. He took us to see his completed projects to get a feel for what the pavers looked like in daylight versus a paver showroom under fluorescents. I'm so glad we did this because what I thought I loved, I didn't when I saw it in person. Once we broke ground, it went by so fast! Much credit to his crew, Mario and Ismael, who worked AROUND THE CLOCK to get this done for us. We helped where we could, although we were probably just in their way, lol, but they seemed to appreciate our involvement. Ozzie and his team are amazing and just good & kind people. Their quality of work shows in the details. In retrospect, I wish I would've set up a time lapse video because the transformation is truly incredible. I contacted this company for a hardscape project. They promptly returned my inquiry within 30 minutes, which was impressive. An appointment was made for 10a.m. On the day of our appointment I got a text, calling me by a different name, asking if I forgot our 8 a.m. appointment? Apparently some scheduling error on their part. When I try to clarify I am sent a picture of a calendar invite for 8 a.m. but my email had a typo, so of course I never got it, nor any other communication stating time change from initial call. Then I got text telling me measurements had been acquired with a laser over our fence and he'd be in touch with a proposal/estimate. I inquired how that could be as we had not discussed what I specifically wanted? To this I got a text, "What do you want?" After exchanging texts of what I was looking for with pics, he promised an estimate within 48 hours. An appointment was agreed for 6p.m. the next day. He did state he'd stay late to accommodate my work schedule. A few hours before the appointment he begins texting me, asking if I was ready to sign a deal for the work? Mind you, we had never met face to face, nor had I seen the proposal! He goes on to boast of 20 years experience and he was sure I would love the proposal. When I responded I was not ready to sign and was getting estimates from other companies, he said they deal in quality and if price ( no idea what price was as I had no estimate!) was my driver, then maybe this was not a good fit. I'm annoyed now; I am quite busy at work as well, so when he offers to simply email the proposal I agree. He says their company does two step process-estimate, then present proposal. I am told, via text, if customer doesn't sign up, they move to next customer. Then he back tracks stating he's happy to meet and inquires if I might meet before 6?! At this point, I am angry at the arrogance and poor service so I tell him to just email it as I am busy at work and can't be home before 6. That was a week ago, I never got en email, a proposal or any kind of follow up contact. Unbelievable!!! read more
