My bf ordered a side of hash browns; we get our food and no side of hash browns, so we ask for an order again and by the time we finished eating they still never arrived at our table. I ordered chilaquiles.... they were basically tortilla chips with a drizzle of sauce on top! The small amount of salsa that was on top of then was more onion that salsa itself. Also, the plate includes 2 eggs and NO EGGS ever made it to my plate neither! Food tasted bland! Rice and beans are a complete joke! Terrible plate in general! Now, customer service! I don't know whether to be mad or feel sorry for these ladies. The one taking our order seemed to be either half asleep or on major drugs to say no more. The one filling up your coffee, simply fills up your coffee. I asked her twice for more creamers while she filled my coffee twice!! She simply said "okay" and the creamer also never made it to my table. I even left the empty creamers that were originally on the table upon arrival on the plate they were on and she even picked them up! Nobody else ever bothered to even approach the table besides the coffee girl. Now to end things, they OVERCHARGED US BY $10! (Mandatory tip??? Scam??) Our original receipt was $40 and change and they were still charging us the hash browns ($3) we never received. When we brought this to their attention our bill came back to a total of $30 with change! The math just doesn't add up does it?! If I could do less than one star I would. Service was terrible. Food was lukewarm at best and not correct. My husband ordered an omelette that should've had avocado and peppers and it only had eggs and spinach, potatoes were wrong for both, my sons pancakes were almost burnt, the syrup had a film on top as though it had been sitting out in the cup for a while. My coffee was crazy watered down, and my plate had some kind of butter/egg grease splatter all on the side. It was just an awful experience. I wouldn't recommend anyone to come here. read more

What a convenient location if your taking the side streets to avoid the 5 freeway traffic! I really enjoyed my burger here. The restaurant looks like something straight out of the 50's. Rumour has it that Marilyn Monroe used to come here just for there Sunday karaoke night which is tonight and a testment of my loyality to the brand I stayed cause the place is packed with some none singing tone deaf folks who are having a really good time! My waitress was extremely kind, the food was ok, but apparently the owner was sitting 2 seats down from me. Halfway through my meal he starts grilling a waitress about a voided ticket. She had charged the wrong customer's card, and provided the man with the voided ticket as well as the corrected charge on the right credit card. He goes off on her repeating 'only I can void charges, it's your job to get it right every time!' The whole time I'm thinking, uh dude, unless you're here 24/7 to process all voids, shit happens, learn to delegate. Then, just to show who's boss, he brings up his other restaurant in Pasadena? And his night club. Apparently in all his years as a businessman none of his employees have ever charged the wrong card. So here's the deal. Maybe this woman sucks as a waitress. In fact, based on her performance in the short time I was at the diner, I'm pretty sure this is the case. Idk, and idc. Ignoring this conversation was impossible based on the sheer volume and this man's power-trip. Maybe I picked the wrong seat, but I'm sure there's a back office or someplace more private this verbal spanking could have taken place. First I want to say Happy Father's day to all the dad's specially my dad R.I.P....My wife family is taking my father in-law to lunch at Ozzies Lounge in the city of Commerce. This is my first time at this establishment we walk in is the diner then we went to the other side the lounge. The lounge is nice is it feel like steping back in time like the old bar/lounge you don't see these establishment any more hard to find. The food looks very good but I try it out first, we got seated and we order our meal, I order their world famous Armenian sandwich with turkey with cole slaw,I have eaten Armenian sanwish before some really good ones and some not so good. This sandwish is totally different from the others I have eated they use real turkey meat but the meat pulled I never seen this before. I took a bite the sandwich was really good not process turkey meat like you see in the deli it's fresh. My biggest surprise is the grilled chile in the sandwich add flavor to the sandwich. The cole slaw was really good it had a good flavor and texture, the dressing they use wasn't heavy it was right amount. It also comes with spear pickle. Overall Ozzie is pretty good diner/lounge the food was really good everyone enjoyed their time at Ozzie. I recommend Ozzie to anyone who wants to enjoy good food. read more

I live within walking distance to this piece of crap place but I've never wanted to go because of the reviews. My dad, on the other hand, really wanted to go here for Father's Day so he made reservations for 11:30am. Now I'm going to list the many ways they screwed up our Father's Day meal: 1. We arrived at 11:30 and they weren't ready for us. 2. We ordered at 11:45. We received our food at 12:30. 3. We had no idea who our servers were since all of them were walking around like chickens with their heads chopped off. 4. My brother ordered bacon but he got sausages instead. 5. My dad ordered his steak medium and received a well-done steak, to the point where his knife could not cut into it. 6. My dad got his "medium" steak that was bleeding. As soon as he got it, he asked for A-1 sauce. Never got it. 7. My dad's gf asked for a glass of water, she didn't get it til my dad had to tell off one of the headless chickens, 30 minutes later. 8. I asked for egg beaters and I got butter with a side of eggs instead. It was inedible. 9. We were offered a complimentary dessert. We all, of course, declined. Then we received the $65 bill. I seriously felt like I was throwing my money away. Please. PLEASE do not come here. You will seriously be throwing away your money. I left angry, hungry, and broke. NEVER AGAIN. read more

My girlfriend and I decided to come here because it looks kind of appealing and there was no wait. Bad idea. We got our orders taken right away, but almost 30 minutes later the waitress comes back to our table and asks us what we ordered!!! After double checking only one of our plates came out...and it was cold. Finally my girlfriend's steak and eggs came out. Been to Ozzie's several times and I've got to qualify this review right up front--you're gonna get TWO (reviews) for the price of one. Actually, for free, cuz Yelp t'aint payin' me a nickel to throw in my two cents. For those of you mathematicians out there, if they WERE paying me that grotesquely huge sum, I'd be up 3 cents by now, and after my overhead expenses and taxes, perhaps I'd eke out a 1 cent profit in the deal. Ha, this makes me re-think my campaign to abolish the lowly penny...these be tough times, so I need all the copper I can get! But I digress... This is a schizophrenic place-- down to the decor, name of the establishment(s), quality of food, ambience, value, etc... 1) OZZIE'S DINER The Diner's old school 50's, with turquoise vinyl booths and a cool counter area with turquoise vinyl stools, catering to the local City of Commerce work crowd, drive by commuters, and is still a popular truck stop--you can see all the big rigs lined up in the far corner of the expansive parking lot. This part of the restaurant and its faded facade face the intersection of Telegraph Road/Slauson Ave. It's bright and airy. 2) OZZIE'S 'HIDEAWAY' LOUNGE-- There's a separate rear entrance to the 'Hideaway Lounge' off the area of the parking lot which sits under the 5 Freeway (Ominous!). It reveals an extremely dimly lit dining room & bar area. To give you an idea how dim, they've recently added some flat screen tvs and that's about the only illumination in the whole room, save for a peek of light during daytime hours that escapes from the kitchen hallway on the Ozzie's Diner side. AMBIENCE In addition to what I've said above, I love these vintage diner spots--they ooze history. The Diner portion needs to be preserved. As for the 'Hideaway', the large horseshoe-shaped booths with their headache-inducing floral patterns and ear-splitting K-Earth 101 crap ass music blaring over the tv broadcasts on the flat-screens?-- Not so much. FOOD DINER SIDE It's all standard diner fare, Mexican & American comfort food faves, sandwiches, salads, etc...They do omelettes & egg combo dishes better than chains like Denny's, all with these 'trucker-friendly' names like 'The Peterbilt,' 'Truckers' Omelette,' 'The Highway 101', etc...portions for the breakfast combos are huge and pretty decent (I'd rate the food 3-4 stars overall on this side, as long as you steer clear of the soups.) MORE ABOUT THAT LATER. VALUE (DINER SIDE)--Prices are reasonable for what you get. The service is friendly, relaxed, and genuine (as others have mentioned, no AMW's (Actress-Model-Whatevers) to attitude up the joint. 'HIDEAWAY LOUNGE SIDE' The same friendly, relaxed, and genuine servers on the Ozzie's Diner side go through some kinda Jeckyll & Hyde metamorphosis when they pass thru the vortex of the bright hallway on the Diner side to the dim lair that is the Hideaway Lounge. Suddenly, they're more distant, serious, and cautious/nervous. As a result, the service suffers. It's like they've entered some kinda faux-haute cuisine twilight zone--really bizarre to behold. And that's the point--the 'Hideaway' pretends to be something it isn't. There are daily specials, written on a chalk board for 'upscale' impact, and they have an 'executive chef' (that's what they call it) during lunchtime only--the only chance you have of getting any of the $10-$20 hit and miss entrees prepared properly. READ: If you MUST, come to the Hideaway for lunch only-NOT Dinner!!! Here's a tip--if you ask them for it, you can order off the Diner menu, but still sit in the Hideaway for relative peace and quiet from the lively diner side (providing they've turned down that K-Earth 101 blare). However, apparently they're now charging a service fee for this. Fuck. I came here recently, too late for the lunch specials. The 4-8pm Happy Hour was in effect, and some shady looking boozers were congregating by the bar. I made the mistake of ordering off the 'Hideaway' menu rather than the Diner one. I got the Southwest Chicken & Shrimp Entrée w/Soup & Rice & Veggies ($13). The cup of French Onion Soup was so fuggin' salty my throat was burning. They basically threw in a dinner roll and let it decompose and get all mushy. It was loaded with onions and NO cheese. Horrendous. The breast of rubbery chicken squeaked as I chewed, and the three tiny shrimps were lost in the 'spiced marinara sauce' goop which had no flavor whatsoever. Despite this fact, I repeatedly dipped the grotesquely bland carrots, broccoli, & zucchini in this morass hoping to salvage some semblance of flavor--an exercise in futility. I even contemplated dumping the salt mine from the 'French Onion Soup' on the mess, but wisely held back, for fear of calcifying my throat completely. I vow to NEVER set foot in the Hideaway again, but alas, cannot demonize the Ozzie's Diner side. 3.5 STARS for the Diner 1 STAR for the Hideaway Rounding up to 3 STARS in total to be fair. Really great historic place! Stopped by while staying for a few days in the area, for breakfast on a Sunday morning. It was quite busy but they have it down to a science; food was served quickly considering the crowd, and the wait staff was unusually friendly for a diner. The food was great, and they serve good portions. On our way out, the owner or manager opened the door for us and asked if everything was good; he said that he had recently been to a terribly overpriced place at the beach with mediocre service and food, and that people were essentially paying for the ambience, and that he wanted to make sure they had good service in a great environment at his place. We thanked him and assured him that everything was great. Shook hands and said we would be back on our next trip that way. Highly recommended! read more

I noticed in looking at the reviews that not one is from Commerce where this fine establishment is located. Since I'm a local boy I'm going to represent. It's tough to find a better breakfast than Ozzie's...the eggs are great, the bacon cooked to perfection and the French toast is awesome. Here's a surprise for you: The menudo is excellent. I rank it as tied for second with Sergio's Tacos (also in Commerce) taking a back seat only to the menudo at El Picante in Bell Gardens. The burgers are awesome and my daughter loves the sandwiches. It's priced okay and beats the hell out of Denny's. For those reviewers that had a bad experience I'm really surprised as I've been eating here for over 15 years and have only had good experiences. Had a couple meals at Ozzie's. Nice place. Has the kitsch of a 50's diner but without any actual vintage stuff on the wall. Decor aside, the food is your pretty standard diner fare. Staff is friendly, prices decent. A fine option if you're already in the neighborhood. but... Keep an eye out for the owner/manager - an older guy in his 60s. You can see him in a booth near the entrance giving orders to staff as if his involvement somehow contributes to the operation of the diner. For example, today a patron asked for a second glass of milk in the same glass. The waitress obliged but had to fill another cup first to gauge the amount. Across the room he dictated she pour the milk directly into the patron's cup. She said she was just measuring the amount, likely as a result of diner policy. He told her to pour it into the patron's cup and apologized to the patron. While I guess this was nice, it was really unnecessary. This is the kind of micromanagement that would probably drive me to the brink of homicide. Then he cornered a couple sitting in their booth and gave them the hard sell on the spare ribs, a dish they were serving that evening. It is a popular dish. It is inexpensive. Many people have it later at night. It will be a very busy night because so many people come for it. They just sat there and nodded in uncomfortable agreement. I don't think spare ribs have ever required such an aggressive sales pitch. So if you see this guy, take a booth on the opposite end of the dinner. If he ever reads this, I suggest you take a step back and let your employees do their jobs, which they are more than competent enough to do without your direction or intervention. read more

American breakfast is good but don't get the chilaquiles. They use flimsy very thin tortillas and I believe mine were stale. I told the very nice waitress and she offered to get me something else. My family and I ordered the waffle combo that comes with a choice of bacon, sausage patty or bacon, and 2 eggs. The sausage patty was good just don't add anymore salt to your food bcuz the sausage has more than enough. Today my bf got his stereo jacked and all his important papers like his car registration. It was sad that they didn't have cameras due to the fact it is there parking lot. From the outside, this place is the typical spot you just drive by and wonder why they're open. I always wondered. Sunday, the boyfriend and I went for an early breakfast. It was decorated with the expected "50's Diner" decor and the furniture is a dated teal pleather. Then the waitress came, and contrary to other reviews, her service was speedy. Our food also came out in less than 10 minutes! Nothing sluggish about that. I ordered the Mexican omelet, and it was quite tasty stuffed with chorrizo, peppers, and cheese. My beans had a cheese on them which isn't my favorite, but I dealt with it. I also got hash browns for a side, but that was a mistake. Maybe not for me since I don't really like hash browns anyway.
