The counter where I sat. You can see your food being made.

Visited this place this morning while visiting family in the area. I remember coming here when I was little with my Dad. This place is a gem in the neighborhood and the locals love it here. The food is consistently good. Staff very friendly. It does get busy and parking lot is small but you can find parking on Atlantic Blvd if you're lucky. Friendly atmosphere and great food is what keeps me coming back. The only thing is it's CASH only! So be prepared before you visit.

First time here and very impressed by the awesome service and delicious food. It's a small mom's & pops spot that has been around for over 40 years. Very limited parking in their tiny lot or on the streets. Located near the 5 fwy & close by to the Citadel Outlets. We ordered the hot cakes, bacon, hash browns, & scrambled egg + sausage, scrambled egg, hash browns, & toasts + coffee + pink lemonade. It's an open kitchen so you can see them cook the food right in front of you, which is really nice and gives you a welcoming vibe. Everything tasted scrumptious and we devoured it instantly. Very quick and friendly service. It's CASH ONLY! Since it's such a small place, there can be a long wait during their busy time. They also take phone orders for pick-ups. Definitely coming back to try their lunch dishes like the chicken teriyaki and their burgers.

interior. The counter to the grill is very close to each other. pretty intimate if you ask me.

I really wanted to try their food once I stepped in the front door, but the wait time was 25 - 30 min. and I had to be back in the office. It's a really cool hole in the wall. Food smelled SO fresh. The service was polite, friendly and, although I wasn't able to order, they definitely made me feel like they couldn't wait to have me back and try their food. They recommended that I call in the order for anything to go. BTW, the food I did see them bring out looked amazing. I look forward to the next time I'm around this place.

This place is always great and worth the wait. Small hole in the wall but the food and service is great. It's like getting a home cooked meal. The pancakes are fluffy and the burger steak and eggs sandwich is delicious.

Whenever I'm craving a homestyle breakfast I come to basket burger cafe. Not only are they super friendly but the food comes out FAST and delicious. Cool thing about this cafe is you get to watch them cook your food. It's CASH ONLY!

Really cute spot. Ordered pancakes, hash browns, eggs, sausage, toast. Cash only but no complaints when it's this good.

However, I went for a second time yesterday and was deeply disappointed. The owner wasn't there and instead a younger girl took my order and prepared the food. Everything seemed well and fine until I got home, opened my patty melt and found not 1 but 2 long hairs in my sandwich! They were clearly her hairs since she was the only one who handled my food. I went back and returned everything. I didn't see a hair in my other sandwich but couldn't even eat it without thinking what could be in each bite. The same girl was there when I returned and a young guy. I spoke with the guy and he gave me a refund right away and apologized. The girl who had made my food was maybe 5 feet away and couldn't even turn around to look at me or apologize. Very disappointing since the owner seemed like a nice guy who probably works extremely hard to build and maintain his business, only to have it ruined by some employee who couldn't even care enough to take 5 sec to put on a hair net. Shame on her.

The owners are always welcoming, friendly, and genuinely make every customer feel at home. Their customer service is exceptional and one of the main reasons my family and I keep coming back. Their coffee is just as impressive--they roast their own beans, make their own café de olla syrup, and you can even buy their coffee beans to enjoy at home. Every cup tastes fresh, rich, and authentic. I also love the atmosphere. The artwork throughout the shop is beautiful and gives the space so much personality. It's the kind of place where you want to sit, relax, and enjoy your coffee. Another thing I appreciate is that their prices are more affordable than many other coffee shops, especially considering the quality of the food, coffee, and service. My kids absolutely love coming here, and it's become one of our favorite family spots. If you're in Boyle Heights and looking for incredible coffee, delicious food, beautiful local art, fair prices, and some of the kindest people you'll ever meet, Picaresca is a must-visit. I do recommend trying it if its your first time and want something not so heavy. I like the chilaquiles, its better when you add a fried egg. Soo yummy, savory, and flavorful! As for the coffee, if you like a pick me up... and a coffee that isn't sweet but strong. I suggest a refresher drink (tonics). The coffee is sugary and you unfortunately cant taste some of the coffee. If that's your preference, we'll i recommend. Besides that, the environment is lovely and art they have. Also had the lamb chops, which is one of their most popular dishes, and I can see why. The lamb was cooked perfectly, soft juicy, super easy to eat. I loved that there was chimichurri sauce provided on the side and it went well with everything, including the mashed potatoes and vegetables. Seeing the server and an Asian staff coming out from kitchen confirmed that the cooking wasn't fully American taste bud. But that is the reason why it hit me very well. Honestly, whether you have American or fusion or Asian taste bud, the taste quality is better than some average American restaurants. I tried the butter squash soup, lamp chop, and bow tie pasta with chicken. I was enjoying my soup and lamp chop a lot. The pasta was pleasant to me, but it wasn't exceptionally great compared to the lamp chop. My fiancé loved the pasta though, saying that the sauce wasn't overwhelming. It is not a cheap place to come for, but it is because the food and drinks (good white wine) have quality. The wait for the entrees was a little long, even though it wasn't that busy. I believe it was the chef spending time to make sure each dish was done well, unlike the busy restaurant where chefs only follow the restaurant's recipes to make it quick and easy. Lastly, the ambience was okay, but it was more an older fine dining/family owned style. It had some nostalgic vibe if you'd take it that way. Keep it up. I really hope it will be there forever long.

Made another and was not even remotely disappointed. This was one of my recent favorite meals by far and dunno if I was just starving or what cause it was all hits and no misses. Our server was very sweet and friendly, as were most of the staff here. The inside is cozy, casual, and comfortable with lots of wood and plants. We ordered SO much food, mainly to try more things, and also because my eyes are perpetually bigger than my stomach. That's fine though! Even the leftovers were delicious as heck. - Cornbread--absolutely smothered in butter and honey, crispy on the outside and very moist on the inside with great jalapeño flavor. Saw some lady on social media say this was gross and dry... surely that was rage bait? - Bread--got both the jam and butter which were both amazing as it came with two types of warm bread that was perfectly crusty and soft. However, given the amount of butter overall in this meal, it wouldn't be a loss to skip. - Peaches--came with farmer's cheese, which is like a creamy, drier version of cottage cheese, that paired really well with the sweet juicy peaches, basil, and fresh lemon dressing. Summer on a plate. - Carolina gold rice--never had this dish before, it's like shrimp n grits met porridge, rich snd hearty with plenty of shrimp flavor from the shrimp butter. - Mushroom-crusted pork chop--easily usurped my previous favorite pork chop from Chez Maggy in Denver, and is now my favorite pork chop :) - Ribeye with bone marrow--also one of the best steaks from a restaurant we've had. My husband's gotten to the point where he doesn't like ordering steaks (usually I'm the offender) because they're usually not very good even from "steakhouses", but this ribeye was great. Perfect crust, perfect med-rare cook, lots of flavor, tender and delicious. Bonus was the bone marrow I saved half of for my spoiled dog. - Sticky date pudding--I think I confused this with a sticky toffee pudding although it's very similar and equally tasty as heck. Don't skip this! Typically I have to be borderline blackmailed into eating all my leftovers but there was no arm-twisting for Dunsmoor's. Street parking unless you valet. There's a line by opening for walk-ins, and apparently a separate line for reservations on the other side of the door.
