Didn't get any food. Just came here for happy hour with a friend. Nice place, packed but I still got good service. Decent prices for the K Street area. Irish-themed bar. Lots of friendly people tending bar. When my friend arrived I looked for a stool for her. There was one near a woman and man who were standing and talking, and I asked if I could take it since they were not using it. The woman got irate and incensed and looked very taken aback. You know the type. It was a funny thing. She apparently didn't want to use it but also did not want anyone else to use it either. Of course, she was pretty well lit by that point. I have to give PJ Clarks 5 stars! Everything from the service, to the decor, the staff and the FOOD!!! All great!! We had , the 8oz filet minon, cooked to perfection! Appetizers were Ceaser salad and shrimp cocktail! AMAZING, side was the half mash half cream spinach!! Amazing spinach! The sides and appetizers are share size FYI, the manager Scott and the hostess Keisha were delightful! Great service , have no complaints at all. Pleasantly shocked actually because we had reservations around the corner but were late, so BLT REFERRED to PJ clarks because they actually are open till 1 am , this was awesome! read more

I was alone and searching for dinner and a drink....or four. The location was right and it looked good enough, like an upscale TGI Friday's or maybe a step below The Capital Grill. It was loud and crowded. Right away, I could tell the host was not interested in seating one person. So, I was told the bar was open seating. I ordered a glass of Pinot Noir and eyed one of the small tables in the bar area. I freakin' hate eating at the bar. As I finished my first glass of wine, the tables cleared out! Yes! As I went to sit down, I was waived off by the busser. "It's really busy, we'll need these tables for a larger group". What I heard was, "F* off alone boy, the check won't be large enough". So, I went back to the bar, ordered the Oysters, the steak and another glass of wine. The oysters were good. The steak was medium rare, as I ordered. I wish the cut had been better, like Porterhouse, T-bone or Rib Eye. Sadly, it was just a flank steak..... With French fries. But the wine was good. When the bartender asked how the steak was, I replied with, "just okay". I got another glass of Pinot Noir, hence the 2nd star of this review. Dear manager, this bartender is doing the best he can with what he has. If my wife had been with me, we would not had eaten here. She's more smarter than me. read more

Visiting DC and stopped in for an afternoon cocktail along with a shrimp cocktail. Both were delicious! Bartender Johnny was super nice and really attentive. Our dinner reservation fell through so we went back to P.J. Clarke's and grabbed a great meal! Try this place out, it's worth it! read more

Great food, fun staff. Biggest complaints are lighting inside the restaurant (very dim, most patrons were using cell phone flashlights to read menus) and pricing. I think the prices are quite high versus the food portions and quality. I realize it's located within blocks of some very high end hotels but I didn't think the pricing supported what I ate. It was all very good but not worth what we paid. read more

I got the French Dip and Wings here and neither were good. The wings wings were so hard and over fried that they tore up my gums and I ended up throwing most of them away. The sauce for the French dip was way too salty and I threw it away as well. Most of my money went into the trash with this restaurant. read more

I went on opening night so I didn't expect the night to be flawless. I had the steak frites ($19). The meat was a little cold, but tasty. The frites were thin onion strings, which was disappointing. I asked for a side of real fries, which were more like fast food fries. I'd expect better from a place like that. The bar area was large and good for happy hour or pre/post dinner drinks. I heard the martinis were up to par. The ambiance is very nice and a beautiful establishment with dark wood and red checkered table cloths everywhere. I feel awkward mentioning brunch at P.J. Clarke's...mainly because I have friends who love it and others (like me) who found it simply OK. This is your classic brunch: french toast, grilled cheese, American food galore. The problem to me was compared to other brunches in DC, the food was awfully pricey. By the time you spend $15 on your food then $15 on the bottomless you can go to a place like Agora and get unlimited food and bottomless together for the same price....and with some flavor to it! My main problem I guess is that there wasn't anything that stands out when it comes to their food. One unique plus is that you can switch flavors between bottomless mimosas and bloody marrys....including flavors like peach and orange, etc.... You can't find this at most brunches in DC as they often make you stick with one selection. If that sounds enticing, then check out this place. read more

Other than the 'over served' guy sitting next to us dropping the F-bomb every couple of minutes, we enjoyed our meal at PJ Clarke's. Fortunately, Mr F-bomb didn't stick around long. Gf had the fish tacos, her Dad had the Mussels, and I had a burger. Although there were no standouts, we had no complaints. The outdoor patio was a welcome site as the late July weather was surprisingly nice for DC. Had lunch at Sidecar last week and the intimate atmosphere is pretty awesome. My buddy, who is a member there, took me there for lunch and the meal was great. Clam Chouder was certainly the highlight of the meal. I look forward to going back and having a drink at the bar area which is small but seems like a great spot to grab a cocktail. read more

We sat, waited 20 minutes, then found the waitress for drinks and appetizers. 20 minutes later get the appetizer and it's the wrong appetizer. 20 minutes later, find her again to point out that it was the wrong appetizer. 20 minutes later, find her again to say "forget it, we need to order, cancel the appetizer." to which she snapped back and said its on its way. Needless to say, I used to come here whenever I was in town. Sidecar was great. But after this experience, I won't be coming back. read more

BF really liked the burgers, I thought they were okay. Chicken pot pie was outstanding! Added a little salt and pepper for my own liking. Definitely would get this again. He got the chicken gumbo. Really flavorful and tasted great with the sausage and rice. Bread pudding was recommended and came out perfect! We both had enough left over to take home. Sever was super friendly and helpful. Tried this place on a whim, day one in D.C. and there were no regrets. Though the lunch and dinner is a little pricy for a Texas girl, it was delicious. Had the crab cakes and chips, my company had the buffalo grill cheese. Both dishes were filling and satisfying. Would definitely eat again. read more

We popped in for a quick brunch before heading out of town on a lovely April Sunday afternoon. We sat outside and enjoyed the people-watching on 16th Ave. They were not very busy which concerned us. However, the service was fantastic with plenty of staff stopping by the table at appropriate times. The food and drinks were delicious. All of the menu selections were appealing so it was hard to choose, but we were very happy with our meals. We will visit again next time we're in town. read more

My first experience at PJ Clarke's was due to an office holiday lunch I was attending. Seeing as our group was on the large side, we were split up between 3 round tables. Each table had a different server taking care of us, which would lead one to think the servers would be more attentive to each individual table. Boy was I wrong. The other 2 tables in my party received and ate their food before our server even came by to tell us our food would be out shortly. Once our food did eventually make it to our table, our server never asked how everything was or if we needed any refills on our drinks. I had a Diet Coke that was never refilled the entire time I was there. In fact, after our food came it was nearly an hour before we saw our server again. We had to ask another server for our bills. Now let's talk about food. I ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich. I would not recommend this item nor will I try it again. Frankly, it was mediocre fried chicken and a little overdone. I've had tastier fried chicken at fast food restaurants. For the prices PJ Clarke's charges I was expecting a more admirable meal. To sum it up, expensive mundane food. read more

Totally skippable. We wanted to go to Mirabelle next door but it was closed (and it was raining) so we settled for the closest place. Bartender wasn't friendly, didn't know how to make cocktails (when did a Bourbon Fizz become a Bourbon Spritzer?!) and food was relatively passable overall. Fries were good, but not worth the $100 bill we had for two people (2 drinks + 2 entrees). Way better options in DC - keep looking. read more

Dinned here with a colleague tonight. Was not very crowed. They have outdoor seating but it was too hot and humid to take advantage of it. Got seated right away. Server was very polite and attentive. The prices are a little high for the portion size and all sides are extra. The scallops were three nice size scallops a little on the salty side but delicious. The crispy brussels sprouts were barely pan fried and not crispy at all but had great flavor. The food came fast and the overall experience was decent. read more

My friends and I were extremely hungry and cold as we stumbled into their dining room after the kitchen closed. Headed there for Happy Hour and it started off bad. Full busy bar. Made eye contact with the bartender and I lean over he walks away! After that I couldn't get any help so I grab my friend. She walks over and here comes that first rude bartender! Takes her order fast but she tells him it's for me so he insists on keeping my card so I can have it open! I said NO because at this point I don't trust him or the restaurant so I get my drink, notice after I sign that my co-worker paid less for same drink! This angers me and my friend so we tell another bartender and he immediately without thinking hands her the difference. Made me feel like they have had this issue before with this guy! Got the wings and slice rib sandwich and shared, the food tasted great. Minus 2 stars for the wait to order and time it took to get three check and leave. For some reason the couple next to us got service and asked by the waiter every 5 minutes if the food was ok. We got seated but didn't get a waiter until 15 minutes later and when we got the check it took 20 minutes to get the check and another 15 minutes to get the change. PJ Clarke's is a very nice restaurant but probably better suited for dinner than lunch. I had the bacon peas macaroni and cheese, which is listed as a side and probably better to share. but for an entire meal it's good for 1 person. The wait staff was a little TOO attentive. I felt like they were watching my every move and as soon as I put my fork down they asked if I was done. The resaturant was practically empty, it wasn't like people were waiting to take my table. What's the rush? The restaurant specializes in seafood and steak, including an oyster bar and lobster. I'm not a big seafood person so I didn't partake, but I hear it's very good. The restaurant is right downtown in an area that doesn't have that many sit down restaurants so it is a welcome oasis near thewhite house, across from the St. Regis Hotel. Convenient to the White House, I'm sure it's had its share of VIP's. read more

I've been a fan for a while now for a great lunchtime treat with a few co-workers. Tonight we had an office social dinner in The Sidecar (the downstairs level) and it just rocked, so I thought it was time for me to post a review. The staff is awesome--Dan (our favorite lunch time waiter) keeps us laughing while providing amazing service. I've heard and read that there are those who aren't fans--personally, I like someone who doesn't take themself too seriously, and who can engage and entertain. And he's not the only gem--there is an amazing pastry chef, Krista (sp?), who comes up with some of the best desserts I've ever had--PLEASE make those cinnamon buns part of the regular menu! If you are setting up a party or event, Emily is amazing to work with. There hasn't been a single person on staff that hasn't made us feel welcome--either during lunch, or tonight during dinner. The food...oh the food. I can't say enough good things. I've not had a single meal there I didn't like. It's rough on a diet, but I know that going in, and try to "behave" before. Friday's I have four words for you: Lobster Mac and Cheese. Enough said. If you've never tried the Sweet Potato fries, you have to. I was skeptical at first, but I'm a convert. And the Spinach/Artichoke dip actually is largely SPINACH...and is amazing. Bottom line is I can't say enough good things. Glad you're in the neighborhood! Stay around!!! read more

Best Burger, and Best Steak i have eaten in DC!!! These guys definitely serve good beef and do it right! Eaten here a few times as well as had drinks at the bar with some co-workers as well as friends (only beer, bourbon, or martinis...save the experimental and flashy for other nights). I love sitting along the wall at the far end of the restaurant, you get to see everything going on in the restaurant. Service is usually good, casual, nothing over the top but friendly. When ever I go, "Bacon Cheese Medium Please".....occasionally Rib-Eye or NY Strip, with Creamed Spinach and Home Fries. This place is good real old fashioned dining, the way food was meant to be, casual, necessary, functional, GOOD! read more

We were walking the last day of the Susan G Komen 3-Day and were flagged over by some friends to the packed patio. The staff was obviously overloaded but very accommodating. They brought chairs from other tables and made us feel welcome. Despite being packed, the service did a great job. We only had appetizers but they were amazing. Beer was cold. We were even served a round of drinks by Chef Ray. He had come out of the kitchen to help the overwhelmed staff. We will make it a point to stop into PJ Clarkes every time we're in DC.
