I've been hearing about P. Terry's since ever but was never able to stop by to see what all the hype is about. People compare them to IN-N-OUT but honestly, I never thought much of IN-N-OUT. Just a West thing that everyone is proud of and then it came to Texas and it's just your average burger chain. But enough about IN-N-OUT, let's talk about P. Terry's. This location doesn't have inside seating and luckily for us, the weather was good enough to sit and enjoy the burgers outside. I got the cheeseburger and strawberry milkshake. The burgers were cheap! And if you got the combo, the cheeseburger combo doesn't save you anything so if you can do without the fries or drink, just get whatever you want and no need to combo it. They came out pretty quick. The burger wasn't too big or too small, just right (kind of like IN-N-OUT size, sorry had to compare). But my burger was straight up cold! I still devoured it but it was cold! Nothing too great but nothing bad about it either. Just your average burger. Their milkshake was super sweet and nothing special either. I think I would have preferred the vanilla because I could taste the syrup from the strawberry toward the bottom. I was able to grab some fries from a couple of friends and these were better than IN-N-OUT. No special sauce needed. These were good quality fries that I don't think you can get at any fast food chain. The perk about this location is they open until 3 AM on weekends. They also have an interesting breakfast menu too. Would I go again? Because of their low price, I would go back to see if I can get on the P. Terry's bandwagon. read more

Not sure what's happening with this P Terry's but the service has been horrible. It's 7:30 p.m. and we just drove off because the guy couldn't get our order right and when we pulled up to the window it took forever for him to even talk to us and take our payment. we drove away without food or payment. Coming from the West coast, im used to In-N-Out for my go to burger stand. However, many of my friends in Austin recommended this place as a substitute so I decided to give it a shot. As this was my first time I did ask the cashier what they would recommend but he wasn't very friendly and I didn't get a straight answer. That's fine, so I ordered the Double Bacon cheeseburger with fries and an oatmeal cookie. The burger was pretty good but nothing too special. Just a regular cheeseburger with bacon. What stood out to me about this meal was the fries. Man, they were much better than any fries I've gotten at In-N-Out. They had flavor and were nice and crunchy. Just how I love them. The cookie was really good too! I'm the minority when it comes to cookies because I definitely prefer oatmeal over chocolate anyday, and these cookies were definitely worth it. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place if you want a reliable burger joint with great fries and a cool old timey atmosphere! read more

My husband and I just moved to ATX and wanted something quick, but we're over all of the national fast food chains. We have seen the retro buildings throughout the area and were curious if this Austin staple was worth the hype. We were pretty shocked by the prices. $2.50 for a hamburger! What a deal. The food is definitely higher quality than the average fast food joint and the wait was a little longer which we accounted for the higher quality product. When we paid the cashier offered our pup a full sized milkbone. I didn't care for the fries, seemed flavorless to me, but my husband liked them. They have as many calories as a hamburger, so I would rather opt for a lettuce wrap burger over a side of fries in the future. read more

This is like the Texas version of inandout burger. When went through the drive thru and waited the usual 10 minutes, but the wait was worth the fresh meat never frozen patty. You can taste the difference, the only thing that gave me a frown was the fries. Crunchy fries just means small, fried to a crisp type of toothpick potato looking thing. Waste of 17 bucks. Just left pterrys with the hardest fries I've ever had from any burger joint. I'm guessing these fries were left out and re heated since they were more crisp then a dill pickle. Either that or they burnt and left out since they were cold as well. I ended up just sliding them off my plate and feeding it to my dog since he's the only one who thinks they're edible. I'm always on the fence between pterrys and whataburger since they are equally close to my house down the street. I think I found my answer. The fries from pterrys are never something you brag about since they have no flavor but at least you can eat them. This was just a waste of two meals. read more

I absolutely love P. Terry's, but every single time I've ordered grilled onions at this location they just give me warm onions. I mean seriously, this is the most liberal use of the word "grilled" ever. I hate to give 2 stars, but this location consistently underwhelms compared to the other locations in south Austin. Just not as tasty. So, my only criticism I can relay with 100% confidence is that the onions are not very good. Go to Lamar and Barton Springs location. Staff can be awfully rude but they always make the burger right. read more

Service is always great however today when I went the fries I received were so hard I was unable to enjoy them; every single fry was over fried and not pterrys standards at all. Recently moved to Austin and P. Terry's is one of my new favorite places. Very reasonably priced and the food is always delicious. Fries are fresh and hot and the burgers are flavorful. Meh about says it. Frys were hot, salty and limp. I like mine t have a little snap or crispness. Mostly, these didn't. Burger was ok. Competent. Well cooked by nothing special. Ordered it with Jalapenos, but I didn't taste but only saw them. Somehow, even the Dr Pepper seemed off. I pretty consistenly like other locations, but something wasn't right here. read more

This is for P. Terry's on Oltorf. I like this place it because even though the meat is "100% all-natural" (yes, yes, I know natural does not equal organic), their burgers are not outrageously priced & you don't have to wait an hour to eat (I'm looking at you, Hopdoddy). That being said, I'm not a fan of the fries - while I appreciate that they look like fries you would make at home, they lean toward being soggy/limp and yet overcooked/brown at the same time. If you're craving a milkshake, I recommend sticking to the vanilla unless you like your shakes super sweet. I ordered the strawberry shake once. No mas. Some P. Terry's stand out more than others. Went late at night on a Tuesday (midnight) and this was excellent. Hot and fresh.

The person taking the order was mumbling most of the time and was not understanding. When we got to the window the person at the window was now very friendly. The food took a while to be delivered to me. I was still courteous and thanked person but he was not responsive. Got home and my drinks taste disgusting and extremely watered down. The cheeseburger with bacon was plain and dry when I had requested everything on it (sauces, lettuce, and tomatoes. The other cheeseburger had pieces of what looked like an old pattie that was trying to be placed together. Called the location to get the burger stand number (couldn't find my receipt at first) and the manager Erika acted like she didn't know what I was saying and put a gentleman on the phone. He understood me and translated for her. She then responded to him in Spanish to tell me not to place a review and she would give us a free burger for free food and trying to indicate to him to hang up(I u know and understand spanish and could hear her in the background) The gentleman was translating for her and I let him know I understood her. He told Erika then she came back to the phone. Once again asking what I wanted, I asked for the burger stand number and she tried to give me the number 16, then she gave me the number 12. I asked her to confirm if it was the number 16 or 12 and she laughed saying number 12. (I was able to find my receipt during the call and was able to confirm on my receipt the burger stand number was in fact 12) It made me extremely angry that she thought our interaction was a complete joke and didn't even attempt to figure out what was the issue. It seems like this may be a usual occurrence and she does not care about customer satisfaction. After this interaction with the manager and the crappy food that was served, I refuse to return and will definitely not recommend this stand to anyone. On the contrary, I will inform people to steer clear because it is obviously a waste of time and money. read more

Do not get me wrong, the food here is incredible. I love P. Terry cheese-burgers. The reason for the less than stellar review, is because the wait can be so darn long to get the food. This is not a fault of P. Terry's, it is obvious so many cars are in the drive-thru because the food is great. normally when i'm here my order is perfect, aside from the occasionally burnt fries, but tonight I had to go back twice to get my order. My lettuce burger was a regular burger without the toppings i asked for than the next was a lettuce burger without bacon and stuff i paid extra for. I know it gets busy, there's no huge rush though. P. Terry's is my go to for inexpensive food out. I can only speak for the veggie burger, which I have to say is incredible. It's mushroom and rice-based, and therefore pretty soft. I have had a lot of veggie burgers, and the ones at P. Terry's are awesome. I love the fries too, but you just need to open them quickly or they could get soft and a little soggy. Overall, not a big issue. I like that they are not coated with chemicals. I highly recommend the vanilla shake (go with the large, worth the price and size difference). I have also had some breakfast items. the banana bread is decent, but not as good as something I could make at home. The orange juice is awesome. It's fresh-squeezed and, once again, go for the large. Very good price for it. In terms of service, every person working there is always very pleasant. Occasionally my dog is in the car with me as I go through the drive through, and it's nice to be offered a dog treat for him. Finally in terms of food quality I have to say it's far better than your typical burger or fast food place. I've always been just an infrequent fast food eater, but in the past I've always noticed that your body just doesn't feel very good after eating it (shocker, I know). Part of P. Terry's mission statement is to provide an alternative to really unhealthy fast food which is filled with chemicals or bad ingredients. Overall I recommend it because it tastes great, uses good and often local ingredients, and the price is very fair for what you get. read more
