P. Terry's is still my personal favorite fast food burger joint after being around the country and trying multiple well-known chains. I feel like the most compared chain to P. Terry's is In-N-Out, and as much as I want to like In-N-Out (read the chain's story, know their business model, tried it in California from the original location, and a fan of their great treatment of employees as well) but I cannot seem to like their food as many times as I tried. To try and perform a non-biased, yet for-fun study, I gathered five enthusiastic friends to do a side-by-side comparison with four categories in mind: Price, Taste, Environment, and Extras. Though there was much debate, the majority of the group favored In-N-Out (3-to-2) before the comparison. 1. Price: We decided to get each chain's version of the double cheeseburger. - P. Terry's: Double w/ Cheese - $3.95, Fries - $1.75, Medium Soda - $1.75, Meal - $7.15 - In-N-Out: Double-Double - $3.40, Fries - $1.60, Medium Soda - $1.60, Meal - $6.60 The prices are fairly similar, but P. Terry's is more expensive across the board. The percentages higher are 16%, 9%, 9%, and 8%, respective to the food order above. 2. Taste: The below is the group's consensus on the burgers and fries. - P-Terry's: Burger patties can stand well on their own with its flavorful taste, the diced raw onions add a nice crisp, fries were pretty greasy but can be addicting. The burger seems to taste even better when you replace the buns with letter wraps because you can taste the seasoning and sauce more. - In-N-Out: Patties are a nice medium for the things surrounding it, such as the animal style sauce. However, by itself, seems a little bland. There was an argument that you have to get the double-double animal style or not get it at all. Fries are good, especially with the animal style topping. 3. Environment: Both chains are very focused on cleanliness and has its own unique style. The architect of both restaurants make them stand-out among neighboring businesses. Our group really admire the big arches from P-Terry's and the California-theme from In-N-Out. 4. Extras: - P-Terry's: Has a breakfast menu, has a well-known dessert (banana bread), provides dog owners with treats in the drive-thru - In-N-Out: Has a not-so-secret-menu that many people order from, and seems like has more foot traffic than In-N-Out At the end of the comparison and the four categories in mind, P-Terry's won overall. Although more expensive marginally, the taste and extras converted two of the pre-comparison In-N-Out favored group members. So the final count in favor of P-Terry's was (4-to-1). However, you must try each chain for yourself and decide! I personally always grab P-Terry's whenever I'm in Austin and have slowly converted many of my friends to crave their delicious burgers. This place is delicious. Being from Ohio we have the typical burger chains (Wendy's, Rally's, BK, 5 Guys, etc.) and alot of higher priced quikserve places and cannot compare. I wasnt expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised after eating my burger, the flavor and presentation was on point. I also felt slightly better that this chain uses better ingredients in their products compared to a Mickey Ds or similar chain. I also had the fries and they were good. Probably needed to be fried slightly longer since they are fresh cut fries and were not crisp enough for my liking. I also decided to have a shake. The shakes are reasonably priced and they are pretty tasty. I was apprehensive because fast food shakes usually taste like syrup and its hella gross, but my friend stated it was worth a try, so I decided to give it a go. So glad there's one of these near me. The right price for fast food that isn't absolutely horrible for you. Not that it's good for you but the quality is better than that of McDonald's, Burger King, or Wendy's and a lot cheaper than whataburger(though whataburger is generally better). The fries aren't that great, though. Pretty potato-y and limp. No crunch whatsoever to them. Not a fan. But the cheeseburger is pretty great. Chicken burger isn't bad either. I'm giving it 5 stars because I always find this location (or P. Terry's in general) as pretty reliable when I need my quick, cheap burger & fries fix). They meet expectations of the persona they've created. There are fancier burgers with more depth of flavor around (Luke's Inside Out is my favorite burger, Wholly Cow is awesome too). But it's next to impossible to beat P. Terry's quality for an inexpensive fast food fix. For perspective, I think In & Out is yet another over-hyped chain. You shouldn't like the fries, they go against everything you think of traditional fast food fries - they're not that crunchy and still have some skin on them. But there's something SO INCREDIBLY ADDICTING about the fries that they have become some of my favorites. Must be the high quality potatoes and the fresh oil that they use. The burger always tastes fresh and you can tell they use quality ingredients and vegetables, though I would like a little less lettuce, but that's an easy 2 finger fix. The lemonade is solid, and the milkshakes are great too. Get them to mix chocolate and caramel - thank me later. One minor thing - please get rid of your stock of antiquated ketchup packets. Life is too short to be opening up 3 tiny packets, when one of those plastic dipping ones will do. :) read more

I order from here all the time. This last couple months have been disappointing. I've had an order of double meat and cheese...only got a bun and meat. I'm sorry but it was so unappealing I threw it away. Made it look like yalls meat is frozen. Today I got a burger and got just tomato, meat, and jalapeños. Meh. I'm not sure what the hooplah is about. I was told the chicken burger here is amazing, so I decided to finally try it today. The combo meal came to 8.01 and came with fries and a drinks. The fries were good, an interesting combination of crispy yet soft. The portion was plenty. The burger, however, left much to be desired. Its obvious it wasn't made to order and had been sitting as it was room temperature. Kinda off-putting. The patty was very thin, though had a good flavor. There was one sad slide of tomato and some crumpled iceberg lettuce with mayo and a white cheese that lacked much flavor itself. The mayo was high quality though, which I enjoyed. Overall, I give the experience 2 stars given the price and quality of the burger. It was my first time here and I don't think I'll be returning any time soon. They are open until 3am on Friday and Saturday, I believe. So, maybe I'll return for some late night food in a pinch. Otherwise, and I REALLY hate to say this because I want to support locally owned businesses, there is a Sonic down the street that will serve me a luscious chicken burger meal for the same price, maybe even less. Pulled up well before closing and wasn't greeted so i wasn't sure they were open, after a minute of sitting there i asked if someone was there and they finally answered. The gentleman that handed me the chocolate milkshake while I was in the drive-thru has no idea how his uplifting words helped make what was personally a pretty rough day better. He was genuinely kind in addition to having great customer service. Even prior to tonight, every time I have gone to P. Terry's on Oltorf I have had a great experience with both the staff & the food.
