I never heard of Pace's before but got a Groupon and figured that I would give it a try. By the way it barely made a dent in the bill as it is a bit more pricey than what you would think. Our bill was over $200 with the Groupon. I made a reservation for a Saturday at 5:00 and there wasn't a big crowd as of yet. We were seated in the far back of the restaurant against the wall that had dusty books and wine bottles on them. The waiter station was right next to us and the staff hovered there for our entire meal. They were having a special that night with the NY Strip where you could add a lobster tail on to the meal for $10. My friend ordered that and I asked the waiter if it was possible to do the same special with the ribeye as I prefer that cut. He said of course so I placed my order with the tail. The meals came and were very good as far as the cook temp and meat quality and the sides were prepared well. When we received the check there was the surprise; I was charged $32 for the lobster tail. I questioned the waiter and he was a bit of a smart regarding the cost and said well thats not the special and besides you got a bigger tail. I reminded him that I asked if he could do the same special and he said that he did but just with a bigger tail. I said that I didn't order a bigger tail and he said oh well there's nothing that I can do. And he walked away. Being a former waiter, I am aware that you want to up sell to increase the bill. But when asked a direct question it it not wise to mislead, deceive and avoid telling the customer what the up-charge would be. Because of his shenanigans I would more than likely not return. He was content with his curt actions and that reflects poorly on the restaurant. If they allow the waiters to do this and essentially cheat a customer they lose out in the long run. read more

I was out in Long Island on a job and my rental wouldn't start so I decided to get something to eat and a drink and found this place close by while I wait for the tow truck about an hour and 15 minutes. My issues started when I walked in the door and went to the bar. I pulled up to an empty area so I could order a drink and both waitresses walked by me more than a dozen times not a word while the 2 couples are either side of me were asked if they needed refills. It's then that I look around the bar and see that I have not gone unnoticed by the regulars(nice term). I was well dressed, well groomed and fit in the attire but in all my days I have never been made to feel so out of place. I literally had to put my hand out to get an acknowledged and then asked what I would like. I fugured an old fashion would calm my spidey senses and help me get passed what I was having to deal with. My Brother in law comes in and what do you know same thing. Now I am getting a little upset but I go to the end of the bar where a couple just left and viewed my surroundings. Older caucasian crowd so I will chalk it up as I am not from around here type of thing. On to the food... Since by this time dinner was out since I just wasted a half hour just trying to get 2 drinks. I ordered the meatballs and riccotta since she said that would be quick. They were delicious but I am sorry to say I will not get to experience anything else here since I was clearly not welcomed. Now I am writing this and I would hope the owners do not encourage this type of behaviour. I am writing this to keep track of good places anyone can go to. This is more of a caution and no I am not a sensitive person or was I imagining this. When you dine anywhere the food can be amazing but the service needs to be the same for everyone regardless. Visited here for my birthday this past week and the meals my party got were hitting the spot. A well done (chopped) Filet Mignon plate with onion rings, onions, and a side of broccoli. I love the food here. The steaks can be compared to any Peter Luger or Ruth Chris's steakhouse out there. The service has always been crisp and attentive. The acoustics, however, are horrible. Seems a silly thing to review but if you want to sit and have good conversation over a great meal, going to Pace's during their peak hours is not the way to go. It gets so loud when the rooms are full that conversation either stops or you are screaming over your dinner plate to be heard. I have been coming here for a long time. Over the last year, the reservation system has been horrible. I have waited over an hour a few times now (after my reservation time) and this will be the last. My family has been coming here for decades and always raved about it. My grandparents have been coming for at least 30 years consistently. I started coming here within the last five years and I've always had a great experience. We typically come here for special occasions, like most recently, to celebrate my college graduation the other week. The service is always stellar. The servers are attentive and happy to explain in detail anything and everything. I have yet to try something I haven't liked. Some of my favorites include the Mac and cheese and the porterhouse steak. The cocktails here are also great, I most recently had a gin limoncello cocktail and it was very refreshing and complimented the meal great. This is an amazing restaurant for its excellent service, great quality and recipe execution--relative to other restaurants. You can sit at the bar for an informal meal or head to the dining room for more formal sit down service. Had a wonderful dinner there on a busy Saturday night, tonight. Reservation... Greeted nicely, hostesses, wait staff, bartender, all wonderful. Food, from the clams to the crab cake to my perfectly medium cooked porterhouse to dessert, all wonderful. Went in with large group so had a set menu...very open to making something so I had something to eat as a vegetarian. Had fettuccine with peppers, broccoli, garlic and oil which was fantastic. Got it almost well done very little pink and another person In my party asked for medium steak and it was well done enough that she sent it back the sides were cold as well. Its been about 12 or so years since I have been here.When I saw the living social deal I thought it was a good time to go back. Was very pleased overall. Started with the clams on the half shell. Sweet little necks were clean and fresh. Split a great wedge salad. Had my usual ribeye and it was excellent. Big, juicy and tons of flavor. Really delicious. Typical steakhouse decor ..pricey, small portions, ordered the petite filet mignon(7-8 oz) came on a very large plate with 2 small onion rings ..TWO!!! Surprisingly the meat was ok.. Not melt in your month which one would expect at the price paid! Side dishes average around $8 each, enough for 2 people. Service attentive, but not overbearing. My main complaint..you spend a lot of money and never feel special or welcome. This is a place I do not want to love but always find myself saying we should have gone to Paces. It's not as trendy as the new steakhouses on Long Island and does not seem as cool, but you always get a good meal and great service. We have been to the newer trendier place nearby and the steak could not compare. Paces oysters are great. As with any steakhouse you need to find what they do best. Would I order their porterhouse, no go to Peter lugars, but their strip and rib eye are excellent. They also have the lobster bake which is great. We wanted to try pace's based on the fact that we live quite close to there Hauppauge location. While our steaks were cooked well, not much was right outside of that. Side portions are small. They serve all there filets with onion rings? Kind of cheapens the whole experience. We were approached by a vendor selling roses which while is a nice gesture, this isn't Yankee stadium. Very loud manager or owner was having a very loud conversation with a table next to us and we were forced to listen to them because of how loud they were. Add a waiter that was stuffy and kind of rude and that reaffirms that we will not be visiting again. There are several better options for a nice dinner. And to think that several friends said that pace's wasn't very appealing prior to us going. Should've listened!! read more

On Sunday, December 17,2017 My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with a vow renewal and dinner with our family in the beautifully private back room. We were given a choice of menus and it was so hard to choose. We started with the appetizers on the table family style. Baked clams, mussels, fresh mozzarella and tomato and shrimp...everything done to perfection. Next the salads. Plentiful for sure and fresh, crisp and full of flavor...main meals..what can I say..the petite filet mignon was so tender and tasty you could cut it with a butter knife. That's how delicious this was. The chicken dishes the guest raved about, moist and tender and plenty of chicken...the fish was moist and flakey with a wonderful hint of lemon. The vegetables on the table were family style carrots, green squash and potatoes all served nicely seasoned and not mushy at all. The dessert was an occasion cake which was delicious as were the pastries that were also put on the tables. Thank you to all the fine people who took the time to make this event even more special and making sure that all the guest had everything they needed. Since our favorite reasonable Steak house have moved on, my wife and I have been exploring the option of venturing out within 20 miles away from home to have a good steak.! Through Groupon I was lured back to Paces for the third time from a $60 to $30 discount coupon. Even though I used a coupon, not once I felt an easy using it during dinner time on a Friday. the manager was discreet. The bill came, I showed the waitress the coupon on my iPhone. The manager came and pressed the redeemed bottom and there it was .... ! I was impressed by the whole thing . The moment we pulled into their lot.....service , service, service. From the valet, to the hostess, to the servers, service with a smile. ! Now the food. ALL ala carte !! A porter housecooked to perfection / med rare almost bordering rare. A wedge salad / A tempura lobster tail / garlic mash/cream spinach and a cocktail + beer came to around $127+ for 2. chances of me going back ....4!
