Had dinner there last night with 2 other couples I haven't been there in 20 years since I moved out of state and I was looking forward to eat there again. I was totally shock when I walk in to see the dirtiest restaurant I have ever seen. I should have walk out at that point. There was a dirty couch in the entranceway that belonged in the garbage, bugs where dead in a skylight above our heads, there was a bar that you couldn't sit at because of the clutter on it. The lighting look like the basement in a tenement house. When the steaks came out it was like I was eating a rubberTree plant, it was so overcooked ,if it wasn't for the other couples I was with I would have run out of there SAYONARA. As always, the food and wine were amazing. Ambiance is on point - you feel like you're taken back in time. Only one server so a little slow considering there wasn't much of a crowd, however we were not in a rush! Definitely a good spot for special occasions! This place reminds me of Peter Lugers with the bare wood floors & white table cloths. It's a house converted to a 10 tables restaurant. One page menu and T-bone Steak for 1-4 people is smack. Pickled herring with sour cream to start next a salad then T-bone medium rare with baked potato. I asked my great server to select a red wine for me and was not disappointed. Covid: Spacing within the restaurant is well thought out because of the pandemic. Since the space is so small, there were only 5 guests in the whole place (2 groups of 2 and 1 person at the bar). Service: The most personal experience anyone can have at an establishment. This little gem was worth going to! The waiter was the only server for the night but it was all that we needed. He was very attentive and patient when we because very indecisive about what to order Food: I have learned that I eat the sides as if it were main course and the steak is the side order for my eating habits. Bacon Special - Simple. Big, thick cut bacon was very well seasoned. This had a slightly crispy exterior and a tender interior. Steak for Two - Cooked to perfection. My eyes are ALWAYS bigger than my stomach! I usually only eat 3 pieces of the steak and bring home the rest; which means that the steak better be worth my time if I am only having such a small quantity. This was seasoned and cooked to perfection! It is difficult for both the filet mignon and ny strip to be cooked to the same temperature but they have done it so well! Home Fries - Burnt at the top. They broil this dish at the end to have a crispy top but it was not something I cared for. The home fries itself were very good and had a very strong onion presence. Broccoli - Perfect! A simple menu to choose from which is great and a ribeye that was cooked perfection that I could not even finish, which doesn't happen often. Definitely going back. A Local Quaint Rustic SteakHouse in the neighborhood. We started off with wine & cocktails. They served us warm rolls & flatbreads. We had the tomato & onions which was delicious. Then we order the iceberg Salad which was 1/2 head of lettuce for $7. We then got our dinners I order the Veal Chop which was over cooked & dry & my husband order the Filet Mignon which he said was chewy. Our side dishes were nothing special. You can drive past this place 1000 times and never know it's there. Fantastic, small quant steakhouse. Same person who seats you will make your drinks, take your order and maybe cook the food. Regardless the service was great, she was super friendly and the food was top notch, even Peter Luger quality. Order the bacon, even if not on the menu it is super thick and cooked to perfection. Not sure where to start... the disrespectful attitude the second I walked in? Or the 2 hours I spent sitting in those god awful chairs? No, lets start with how I was the youngest diner in there by at least 20 years and got below expected service from an "upscale" restaurant. Mind you, the restaurant only had like 12 tables, and there were 2 waiters. Both servers were much older which made me believe theyve been doing this for a while. Nonetheless, I had a reservation for 7 pm. When i walked in, there was almost a shock to the waiter that more people were coming to eat. At that point i was told to sit "wherever". As i proceeded to sit down at 2 person table with my girlfriend, i was told NOT to sit there and sit at the table next to it. I started to apologize as if it was my fault that "wherever" meant the table he originally expected us to sit in. Took the waiter about 15 minutes to come back and ask us what we wanted to drink (keep in mind I had no menu in my hand). Didnt even bother to offer us a wine list, which I didnt need because we were not drinking that night (I am 25 and my girlfriend is 23), but purely out principle and respect? I should have at least had the option to look at it. Then 10 minutes after we ordered waters, we finally got the menu. Had PLENTY of time to decide what to have for apps and our entree. Honestly, i had enough time to memorize the entire menu and recite it back to the waiter by the time he got back. When the waiter came back, we decided that to save time, wed put in the entire order for the night (apps and entree) Took them another 45 min to bring out 3 baked clams, and a caesar salad. I will say the food was great but not enough to trump the awful service. We had finished eating the apps and the bread that came with the table, and left it at the edge of the table to let the wait staff know we were done with that and would like it cleared. The 2 servers mustve walked past our table 10 times before it was picked up. My water was not filled once during those trips that passed my table, and it was empty. I didn't even have a chance to ask them for a refill because they wouldnt even give us the time of day. Finally at 8:40 pm we got our entree, which again was delicious. Finished by 8:50 and asked for the check. Took them a total of 15 min to bring out the check and another 10 to bring me my receipt. I have respect for the people that work in the food service industry, I have done it myself when i was in college. It is no easy task. But by no means was the restaurant packed, and by no means should normal, not out of the ordinary wait staff responsibility be thrown out the window. I wish i could say i would be coming back, because the food was really good. My compliments to the chef as he produced a wonderful t bone, and all the sides we ordered. It is a shame. read more

Recently held my mothers birthday dinner at PG's. We've eaten here many years and while we love the food, like LOVE the food. We find their pricing is kind of absurd. Considering portions, you should get a little bit more. Their drinks are overpriced too. I ordered a vodka soda and they used kettle 1. I didn't want a $17 vodka soda- I'm assuming either their house is kettle which is a little weird or the server just up charged me for a higher end vodka without asking. Negativity aside, Their food is delicious and their steaks are always cooked to perfection. Service is almost always perfect. Their lump crab meat, PG salad, and all of their sides are perfect accompaniments to their steaks. Highly recommend to those who want a special dinner, and don't mind paying extra for a small intimate steakhouse vibe w god food and overpriced drinks. read more

old beat-up looking restaurant. looks like its never been re vamped since it opened in 1986. service was ok, but slow, food was ok, but nothing to brag about. went to the bathroom which was about as old as the rest of the place. toilet right next to sink old crappy interior, There are much better placed to spend your money for good steaks. We have been to this restaurant many times. On Valentine's Day 2017 we ordered a T-bone steak which came without the fillet mignon. The waiter said there was nothing he could do about it. Six times we've called the restaurant and have never received the courtesy of a return call. To spend this kind of money and receive poor service and sub standard food is very disappointing. Shame on the owner for showing no appreciation of his customers. We no longer go to this restaurant. read more

I was so looking forward to going to this restaurant, as I heard from friends who've eaten there for the last quarter of a century what a fabulous experience it was. We were there for 90 minutes without being offered a single crust of bread. Water? Never even offered. This was without a doubt the worst restaurant experience I've had in my entire life. This restaurant may have been great back in the 80s or at some point the distant past, but it is an unmitigated disaster of epic proportion. PGs has been a staple of ours for quite some time. Great service, food and drink. However, today we had a very bad experience. When our party of 4 arrived at 5:30pm on a Saturday we were greeted with surprised faces on the two workers that were present. Mind you we had a reservation and even announced the fact that we had one. None the less we had to wait 10 minutes for the table to be setup. When we finally sat down we did not get menus right away from our server and also was not offered water for the table. Our server came back to the table with the menus eventually but no wine list. I asked for the wine list and I was told they were running low in most items. No problem. I picked a Chardonnay and pointed it out to the waiter. He said he wasn't sure if he had that so I told him if didn't just bring something in that price range and quality. They did not have the wine I requested so a replacement was brought that was slightly higher in price. Still no problem yet. Now the real issues begin. It seemed the waiter was distracted or didn't care to be serving my family. I got this feeling early because of the way he was interacting with us. Still I have him the benefit of the doubt that they may be short staffed even though there were only 2 tables there at the time besides ours. We ordered our food and then asked for water. We received the water fairly quickly after asking but waited longer than expected for our food. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and figured they were short staffed in the kitchen. However, another table that came in after us seem to be served much quicker than us. I was starting to get a little annoyed but kept my cool. When the food came out it was prepared as we requested. However, the lobster tail we ordered with the meal did not come out. I had to remind the waiter about it. I don't think it was ever ordered by the server because it came out after we were already done with our meal. On a positive note, the food was very good. But then after we finished the server did not clear our table or ask for dessert orders for a good 20 minutes. We had to call him over ourselves eventually. He seemed to be ignoring us for some reason. A reason I couldn't understand since our bill was going to be upwards of 400.00 and we didn't do anything to upset him or deserving of being ignored. When he finally came back to clear the table (after I called him 2 times) we had to ask for dessert menus. There weren't any but he told us what they had. We ordered dessert and I asked him to bring the check at the time he brought us our desserts. At this point I just wanted to finish my dinner and leave. He did not bring the check as requested and we had to ask the other server, and then our server once again. We got the check and I put my credit card in the tray with the bill. Our server did not pick it up, the other server did. Not a big deal but it would have been nice for him to come over and ask how everything was while accepting my payment. He brought us the credit receipt and I signed it and left a tip. A tip that I feel was way more than the service was worth. But I left it anyway. When we got up to leave he was at the front of the restaurant behind the bar by the kitchen. He did not attempt to meet us as we were leaving and only said thank you after the other server said thank you and have a good night first. I understand that being a server is not an easy line of work. However, when I go to what I consider a high end restaurant I do expect to be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of any issues that the workers may be experiencing. In my opinion I feel the restaurant has taken a turn for the worse and because of this recent experience I would not return ever again. And I would not recommend PGs to anyone else unless your a regular, whom I noticed got the proper attention that I did not get being an occasional diner. read more

One of the best, and certainly the most underrated, steakhouse on Long Island. We had dinner for four the other night and everything was first rate. Drinks we generous and prepared perfectly. We started with the wedge salad and tomato & mozzarella salads, which were fresh and generous in size, but the steaks were the best part of the meal. Two of us shared a Porterhouse, which was cooked to perfection, and the other two had filets. The homefries were crispy and tasty and the deserts (brownie sundaes and pecan pies rounded out a great meal. In addition to the food one of the great aspects of this steakhouse is it's intimate size. It's like eating in a small farmhouse (there's a fireplace in the winter) and unlike most steakhouses you don't have to shout to talk. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Took my husband here for NYE and his birthday. He ordered filet mignon - medium rare. I ordered lamb chops. Food came out, lamb chops cooked perfect but no flavor. Steak was like a hockey puck. Sent it back, heard the lady owner yelling at waitstaff from our table. Steak came out again cooked right but not very good. We both ate alone. $300 bill comes, not one thing taken off for the inconvenience, so we ask, thinking it's the right thing to do, especially for a special occasion. The same lady screamed at her staff saying no, she didn't make the mistake. Totally rude and uncaring, couldn't even come over herself and speak on behalf of HER restaurant. The low star reviews are sad to see. I'm sure some of them have a case but my experiences have always been 5 star. I work very close by and PG's is our only go to restaurant for business dinners. The place is dated but I wouldn't change a thing. It's always warn and cozy. Granted I have only been there Monday thru Thursday and the crowd is generally on the light side the food is always fresh and outstanding. I kid you not. Shrimp cocktail, tomato and mozzarella, crab all fresh. The steaks are killer period. The wine selection is fare. Pricing is up there but it's a steakhouse people. Sure you can go to Prime, Insignia, Blackstone's etc if you want the home depo style experience. This would be your local country hardware store compared to those guys. read more

I really want to love this place. Restaurant is quaint with a small dining room . I had a party of 4 for a birthday dinner . We started with drinks and had 4 shrimp cocktails . For the money they charged for the shrimp ,which were small , I was embarrassed and so should they have been ! We ordered 2 steak for two , as we wanted different temperatures . the steak was good but fatty , the sides were good . All in all not bad but very expensive for what and where it is . Experiences can be subjective, so it pays to read several reviews before getting a sense of a place. I loved my dinner here. Yes, the décor is old but, to me, that's character. This place has a deserved feeling of history. The food is the main attraction. You have to focus on the steaks which are prepared exactly the way I like -- sizzling hot, full of juice, with nice char on the outside. Best I've had in years. The appetizers and sides are equally good. Wedge salad is so good you forget it's a salad. Garlic mashed potatoes tasted very garlicky which is rare. For a steak house that's been around awhile, for it to be empty on a Friday night speaks volumes for me. I had the Single Steak which was an average price for a steak house. The steaks were perfectly cooked, rare just the way we like them. The sides were spot on! Home fries were unbelievable. Creamed spinach awesome! Onion rings while not the standard,not battered or breaded we were very pleasantly surprised. Buttered mushrooms were flavorful and cooked well. There were some leftover mushrooms which are going in my omelet this morning can't wait! Service was great also! Our waiter was attentive but not annoyingly so. Interesting place. Very old style, German looking restaurant. It actually reminded me of the old Smithville Cafe in Bellmore. We went with a group of 4 people. We did not have appetizers, only two people had drinks, did not eat dessert, the bill was still over $300... This was a pricey dinner. Atmosphere... We sat on the second floor, and it was VERY loud. It's an old house, so it would be like siting on the scond floor of your own house with 25 people... it would get loud. This was very distracting and we found ourselves having to shout to hear eachother. The first floor seemed nice... Service was OK. The poor waiter had to run up and down the stairs for everyone on the second floor. We were not rushed, which was kind of nice. Everyone was very nice. Fillet was amazing. We ordered two surf and terf orders, Fillet & Lobster tail. The lobster tail was great and big. The other steaks were cooked OK. My wife ordered medium well, and it came medium rare. However the Garlic encrusted rib eye was tasty and great! Side dishes were family style. We ordered the German home fries, garlic mashed, and garlic broccoli. All were very good. If your fed up with chain restaurants, Outback, etc... This is a cool alternative, but make sure your ready to spend $$! read more

This weekend I returned to P.G. Steakhouse after an absense of about 10 years. Guess what? Nothing has changed. Menu the same, food the same, even the same waiter. Steaks were all very good and cooked well. Prices are lower then the top tiered places with most steaks being under $40. Sides were all good. P.G. still has unbreaded fried onion rings - which are a real treat for my wife. I guess I can't pinpoint any one part of my dinner that was really exceptional - but what's more important is that we had no complaints. We all left happy. read more
