my contractor brother-in-law's motto could be "well begun's the most work you can hope for outta me…read more..." so, now that we've hired a guy to finish one more of the many, many construction/remodeling projects he started, got paid for but never, ever got around to actually finishing (in this particular case patching and painting an exterior wall he tore up trying to resolve a plumbing issue which also required hiring a plumber to fix), i found myself trucking out to SAN MARCOS for mortar and stucco. any task requiring tools other than a spatula or kitchen knife is out of my comfort zone and these guys were very, very helpful mostly in a bemused sort of way -- not that i blame them as clueless as i am it's reasonable they found my feeble attempts at having anything to do with a construction project amusing. the good news is now, thanks to a little help from FREE BUILDERS SUPPLY and our very handy handyman, five years after the demo portion of the assault on the wall, our home is whole again.

I needed a bag or two of concrete for a kitchen sink I'm making and specifically needed Quickcrete…read moreCountertop Concrete. Unfortunately, both Lowes and Home Depot were out at most of the stores in San Diego. I called around and found it at Free Builders. When I arrived I went straight to the counter and asked for the product. The less than friendly worker started to write up a ticket for the purchase. Now standard concrete is about $4.00 a bag and this stuff runs about $14.00 but it's better for what I was using it for and I didn't need much so worth the extra cost. But I noticed he wrote about $30.00 on his little ticket for one bag of the stuff. I asked if that was what they were charging and when he confirmed it I said "Thanks Anyway" and walked out. As I leaving the parking lot, another guy came out and said...."Oooops it's $21.00 a bag. We made a mistake" I kept driving. Now I'm a reasonable woman and I understand that a mom and pop shop does not get the same discounts as the big box stores so I expect to pay a bit more. But not double! Maybe it was an innocent mistake. Or maybe they saw a woman walk through the door in a dress and flip-flops asking for one bag of concrete and assumed that she just "don't know shit" about the cost of building materials. You decide. As for me, I don't do business with scammers.

They are fantastic. I have used them many times for front yard and backyard projects. They are…read moreknowledgeable and super friendly and efficient. The prices are better than anyone else because I have checked. Their office staff is knowledgeable and helpful. I would give them 10 stars. I highly recommend them. You won't be sorry.

Previously had good experiences…read more My landscape team reported that an order was short by almost half - I called support and was professionally heard and passed to dispatch. Dispatch told me I was wrong, and my team was wrong, because they use calibrated equipment. I'm an engineer. Calibrated equipment has tolerances - operating at low end of the tolerance, per load, can add up to significant under-fulfillment of an order. So yeah, it could be off. I trust my team that actually applied the product in the field. At the end of the day I don't really care, because I was short material for a project - 2 cubic yards. A big amount for me, a homeowner, but a small amount for a landscaping supplier. As a business owner, I would have expected a higher level of customer service, acknowledging the amount of business throughput with my account. I was offered a discount on a future purchase, but in a way that was pretty rude and forced. I declined the discount because I don't really want to do more business with a company that would dismiss me so quickly after spending thousands of dollars for their materials. The dispatch manager chose to forgo my future business to be right about a material cost of $172. Sure. you win, Southwest Boulder. You're right. And I'll take my next $3000 order somewhere else that won't call me a liar.
