Ordered from Grub Hub. Food was slightly less than average. Chips were stale and refried beans were room temp. Chile Colorado was ok but a tiny portion delivered in a crushed container. And to top it off, they didn't deliver the canned soft drink as ordered. Overall, a disappointing experience. Do yourself a favor and order elsewhere. You deserve better.
South Boulevard hosts a lot of treasures that totally fly under the radar. These hidden gems are often old family owned restaurants that don't look flashy but have held it down for a long time and serve up authentic and tasty food. Maria's is a great example, although they don't keep as low a profile as you'd think because their building is bright orange! They pride themselves on their authentic Mexican recipes, and much has been said about their birria. I most recently popped in for some take out, although the festive music and charming decor made me wish I could grab a booth amongst the many happy patrons and have a margarita. One dish I really enjoyed that I had never heard of before was the Chori Pollo. It was a grilled chicken breast cooked in a layer of cheese and sausage served with rice beans and three tortillas. It wasn't the prettiest looking dish, but it was so good! They also of course have some fire tacos and quesadillas, truthfully I haven't had a meal there I don't like. Best of all is that it's all reasonably priced. If you've ever noticed the bright orange building along south boulevard and found your curiosity piqued, take it as a sign and go give them a try.
Super authentic place and food! The service was super quick. We tried the steak and al pastor tacos, super yummy. Also tried the birria tacos, I think a little skimpy on the juice but overall yummy. The place is small and cute and welcoming. I would go back!

They have a huge offering of birra, fro tacos, burritos, quesadillas, ramen all the way to pizza... they are really leaning into the birra. For food, Went for the tacos and quesadilla, they were both excellent! They also had a $7 margarita special going on when we went, with strawberry margaritas, which were amazing! Our waitress was super comfortable and kind, she made us feel like friends. Food came out fast and accurate. Overall, loved this place! I know my friend who lives in Charolette almost exclusively goes here for Mexican. Well done!!
I absolutely love Maria's! By far my favorite Mexican place in Charlotte. The homemade salsa that they serve with the chips is fantastic. It has great flavor and perfect spice level. I always order the birria flautas and they are so juicy and tender it hits the spot every time. My husband ordered the chile Colorado which was also fantastic. The meat is so tender and booming with flavor! I also love their rice and beans. Most places never season their rice and beans but theirs are so tasty and wonderfully seasoned. I order a side with my flautas every time I go.

We ordered the "tray" which for $45 included two birria tacos, birria ramen, two flautas, a burrito, and queso fries. It was a ton of food & everything tasted great. Will definitely be back!
QuesaBirria was amazing. The meat was cooked wonderful , and while this dish is a bit messy it was very good and so worth it. I also got the cheesecake burrito, it was very good but with the word burrito in the name i was expecting it to be a bit bigger. Portions for the price are great. Would definitely come back and recommend to anyone. Inside smelled amazing and my waitress was very attentive
Came here for lunch and the whole table ordered exclusively from the Birria menu. I shared the Birria Sampler Tray ($45) with my spouse, and it was the perfect amount of food, if maybe slightly too much. The standout star was the QuesaBirria, basically just a Birria taco with cheese. It was phenomenal! The burrito was too starchy with the French fries inside, and the BirriaCrunch Quesadilla was hard to dip & eat. Next visit I will just get a couple QuesaBirria. The service was friendly & fast (although we came early at 11:30am on a Monday). The decor is fun & festive. Tables are a little cramped. It's a bit of a drive for us, but i'll def be back when in the area for the QuesaBirria again!
Dropped in here months ago, found it from Social media and I will say it was a solid visit. Food was good! It wasn't busy at all, the server was kind and gave some solid recommendations. I didn't get any photos of the food or see much of the restaurant because we sat in the front. It looks like a Good spot to have a larger group Or just grab a quick bite.

Stopped in for lunch with a friend i haven't seen in a while. The staff was very friendly. I wish i got the woman's name that helped us, she was extremely welcoming and nice. She seemed to be the manger but not too sure. Anyway, she brought our drinks quickly and offered different appetizers. We ordered the queso. Made sure we had chips the whole time. As for lunch, my friend ordered the shredded chicken quesadilla lunch and i ordered the birria tacos lunch. The waitress explained the lunch only came with 1 taco, the rice and beans. Offered me the combo which brought two tacos. I'm glad she did because i ate both! The food came out warm and everything was delicious. The rice was not the typical authentic Mexican rice but was very good. The beans were a little salty but other than that, no complaints. She saw that we were talking and catching up so she said to just let her know if we needed her and she stayed close by without interrupting. I love that. Big improvement from my last experience at Maria's. The environment was nice. Despite there being a lot of people eating, we were very well taken care of.
This place was alright nothing special I got two carne asada tacos and two Birria tacos and there was a hair on my cucumber.The service was good nice Mexican lady.

First time here!! Greeted immediately and taken to a clean table. Drinks ordered...a dirty Diet Coke and a homemade sangria. A lovely dining area with plenty of light. Our photos show what we ordered...a lot of food!!! The QuesaBirria is fantastic!...the Sopa de Pollo is the best in Charlotte (IMO)... and the Burrito Texanos stole the meal!! I didn't taste the hubs' food as it disappeared so fast! We will be back and being friends! read more
Food was absolutely delicious very flavorful. Our server was beyond kind and salsa was unique and fresh. The choripollo was super good, don't even need a knife with how tender it was. The Arroz con pollo supremeo was also very good, steak was excellent and very tasty. The restaurant itself was gorgeous and very welcoming, the drink menu looked delightful as well. Highly recommend would definitely come back! Food was so good i didn't even take pictures I just ate it lol! read more

Location: South Charlotte Date/Time of Day: Lunch/Dinner Ambiance: Maria's hosted in a small stand alone building right off South blvd. Parking included wraps around the perimeter of the building. Inside is a warm authentic feeling Mexican restaurant with alike decor. Tables and booths being close by allows for the true "mom & pop" feeling in this restaurant. Bang for Buck ($): Birria being their most popular and marketed items, this is a well priced restaurant compared to many of the "overhyped" Birria restaurants we see in today's market. Lunch specials starting around $7-15 & dinner plates $12-20+ allow for you to be satisfied by appetite and in budget. Thoughts/Review: After multiple attempts Maria's still holds to be my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Charlotte area. Authentic flavor and variety through their menu. Birria cravings are quenched by their burrito, ramen & pizzas. That's right Birria Ramen & Pizza! Margaritas are hosting in cute home style glasses, that can pack a nice punch. Chips and salsa come free with all meals and waiters are nice and well attentive. QuesaBirria was amazing. The meat was cooked wonderful , and while this dish is a bit messy it was very good and so worth it. This place has been o my want to visit list for a while, I finally made it and was not disappointed. The restaurant isn't very big, but the staff is very friendly and helpful and everything was clean. The birria sampler plate was awesome, several different options to try and they were all good. I also enjoyed the tri color chips and salsa, I would definitely come back again and try some of the non birria options as well. Looking forward to my next visit, if you haven't been here but have been thinking about it, it's definitely worth it. read more

The food is fire but for 3 tacos and the lady to forget the man part is crazy but the craziest part is $35 bucks for this I'm from Vegas and that's normal so I'm not to mad but for a hood taco shop to charge these prices they should come back to reality and get back to the taco deals haha read more

I've seen this place all of instagram, is is definitely an influencer favorite. Birria is very trendy right now and they've made everything Birria. Now I'm going to start this off by saying that my mom absolutely loves this place. Her favorite thing to get is the Birria pizza. I, however, was not crazy impressed. The server was really nice and the restaurant itself is cute, the food got out pretty quickly but the flavor was not there for me. I got the Birria grilled cheese and the consome didn't have any real flavor at all which was disappointing. The grilled cheese itself was just cheese and meat and again, the meat didn't have any depth in the flavor. So it was just bleh to me. I'll probably be back because my mom loves it but I will be trying something that is not Birria. I will update my review if something else ends up being better! read more

Maria's was very nice. I enjoyed my experience here when I visited my city a few weeks ago for a weekend getaway and was informed by a friend that Maria's was the place to go. Was craving something yummy for a late night pick me up before getting my night started in Charlotte. The drink I had was amazing! The food was nice and warm, the vibes pretty good and the atmosphere seemed uplifting. However, I do believe that the location is not ideally the best and the restaurant is not that big and there are lots of tables and chairs for seating in a very tight space. I noticed lots of regulars coming in as they were speaking to the servers so I can tell they've got a nice community atmosphere. The food was delicious! So very good and with the hype but I'm not sure it makes up for how packed the restaurant is. Nonetheless, I appreciate a good hearty meal and this was definitely it! read more

"How do you solve a problem named Maria(s)?" Seems like God has already provided me with the answer, or a partial one at least... My friend recommended that we meet here for the real deal birra over a year ago. We never made it. But here I am, with two hours ahead of me and an empty belly. I remember the restaurant is in the area and pleasantly discover it's not far. Before I'm settled, warm chips and salsa makes it to my table. Chips weren't salted but because they are warm they accept a sprinkle or two. I keep my order simple. A margarita, a coke and two birra tacos. They don't serve regular coke, so she offered a Mexican one instead. All I can say is, "thank you Lord!" that I haven't tried this place before today. For the past two years, my daughter works out twice a week literally right around the block. Had I known how great Maria's is, I'd have been here sooner AND at least three times a week! But the Lord saves me when I can't save myself! My daughter will be training in another state all summer long so I don't have to worry about gaining 30 lbs this summer because of the over consumption of birra. I will tackle the problem again in the fall when she gets back! read more
I've been wanting to try this restaurant forever. I noticed that it's been in Charlotte for a very long time, so it must be good. They have a great menu with lots of birria for those that enjoy it. We had chicken fajitas, enchiladas, quesabirria, and the fried ice cream. Everything was delicious, except for the rice, which I found bland and a very strange neon orange color. The fried ice cream was unlike any I've ever had, the presentation was very different, but it was delicious and had wonderful flavors of cinnamon and honey. The restaurant was super clean and inviting, the service was good, and we are excited to return. That birria grilled cheese has my name on it. read more

We weren't greeted upon entry and immediately seated in a booth! The booth is definitely in need of refurbishing. There is a partial menu on the table with a QR code to access the full menu. There are beautiful vibrant handpainted flowers on the building and booths. My Mom decided on the Chicken Fajita Quesadilla and I ordered the #27 Quesataco Combo with Birria and Chicken Birria with Rice and Beans. The food was fresh, hot and tasty! My Mom was only able to eat one quesadilla! The Birria was cheesy and flavorful! Our server was very attentive throughout our experience! Well, it helps to research a restaurant and give them a try. I had never really noticed this restaurant near the corner. On a Saturday evening, we arrived just before the crowd really picked up. We were a party of 8 and a set of tables were joined in the back to accommodate us. Service was excellent. Our first waitress was very nice but had a mishap in the back and left unexpectedly. She was quickly replaced by another friendly and helpful staff member. I to tried the Birrias Grilled Cheese. I will give it a 3/5. A member of our party ordered the ChoriPollo and it looked delicious. I was told that it was as better as it looked and was topped with Chorizo. This will be my next menu selection to try. Maria's has a full bar. I saw a strawberry margarita special online but opted for the classic. Later, I saw they had Christmas drink specials. My drink didn't have any kick, wasn't served in a Margarita glass, and should have had a salted rim. Online, there were many drink options and food options that were not shown on the two-page menu we were given when seated. It would have been nice to have a full drink and food menu. Or, to have the waiter give you the full run-down. You will definitely want to check online to ensure your selected options are the best for you. read more

If you're looking for authentic, delicious Birria, Maria's is the place to be! We came for lunch and really enjoyed everything we tasted. The atmosphere is cozy and homey and feels familiar. We ordered a ton of their birria dishes and loved every one of them! They also have an extensive menu of other great Mexican food staples, so there's something for everyone. read more

This is a nice restaurant off of south boulevard. The food was great and it was nicely decorated. The drinks were good. Staff were professional and able to make reviews of items. There is a parking lot it's a bit bumpy so drive slow. I hope you enjoy as much as I did. read more
Maria's serves authentic Mexican food with lots of flavor. The salsa is absolutely delicious, but they only provide tiny portions of it, I'm not sure if more is extra $ or not. I tried the birria ramen, and while it was really good, the portions of noodles and meat were too small. Adding extra noodles for $2 is worth it to make the dish more satisfying and filling. The steak is cooked well, and the birria tacos are another highlight and packed with flavor. The service is quick and friendly, which makes the overall experience enjoyable. The food is delicious. My strawberry margarita was just right. Our server was so sweet and attentive the entire time we were there despite the chaos for Cinco de Mayo weekend. The tables are a bit close for comfort but the restaurant is pretty small so I didn't mind it that much. read more
My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed Maria's! We came by late on a Sunday night around 9pm. We were so happy they were open. We were seated immediately. It's an older establishment, you can tell, but it's clean and the staff was really nice and attentive! I ordered a quesa Birria taco, chicken taco and carne asada taco. All 3 were fire. I don't think I've ever had a more flavorful taco. They seasoned seasoned that meat you hear me!!!! Lowkey they should teach seasoning classes at this point, cause their chef clearly knows what they're doing. My fav taco was the Birria of course, because who doesn't love a good dunk sauce for anything lol. It was also super filling. We think we have a new regular taco spot for sure! Next time we want to try all the other Birria options. Their menu is massive! So many yummy food options. We also saved room for dessert and ordered the fried ice cream....y'all this ice cream stood not a chance against us. We cleaned the plate it was soooo good! Nice sweet treat to end the meal. What I also loved about this spot is that you can tell it's run by family and they made us feel like family while we were there. We really enjoyed this spot and will be back often. read more
The food is delicious here! My friend and I ordered a few things to sample together. I ordered the Birria Pizza. The Pizza came out hot with marinated shredded beef, gooey cheese and flaky crust. This also came with dipping sauce which was also very good. The highlight of the meal and definitely recommend! My friend ordered the Birria Cheese dip-it was so yummy with cheese, marinated Birria beef and served with tortilla chips. Verdict- very good and highly recommend. My friend also ordered Maria Parrillada. This was served with steak, shrimp and chicken which she said was delicious. Last I ordered a Mango Pina Margarita (with or without alcohol) sweet, cold and refreshing. Highly recommended! The service was great! Our server was so nice and quick. The atmosphere is casual and laid back. I would highly recommend Maria's and whenever you go tell them Lawana sent you! read more
Maria's is delicious. Has a fair price: a fun inventive menu surrounding the Birria trend and also has its own tradicional Mexican menu . Every-time I visit the food is as delicious and the last and chips and salsa are complimentary. Bathroom is always clean server is always present and since I always go during lunch time , there's always plenty of space for sitting as well as parking. If you are in the mood of Good Mexican food, come here. I have had the Birria tacos ( a must try) and the burritos also SO good! Funny enough their rice and beans is what gets me... so flavorful, I'd be happy eating here even if all I had was the rice and beans. Their drinks are good also.
