I've gone back and forth between writing my 5-star review, not because I don't think Paddler deserves it, but because I'm worried about no longer being able to come here whenever I want because it's too busy!! It's a cute, small shop with fun, boat-themed decor (bonus, they left their Christmas decorations up for a while which I am 1000% a fan of haha) I hesitate no more because Paddler has been my north star for Thai food and the people need to know how good this place is. Bonus, the staff is so incredibly nice as well! I personally think that Thai Boat Noodles (guaytiew rua) is underrated and deserves way more recognition as a dish and will happily introduce people to this dish if they're meat eaters! For folks unfamiliar with Southeast Asian food, I describe thai boat noodles as very herb-forward. And it's ah-may-zing. So yeah, if you're coming here, definitely get the Boat Noodles! Traditionally, the soup version is typically with Sen Lek, which at this place is medium rice noodle. Whenever I get the dry boat noodles, I get it with the egg noodle because it truly soaks up all that delicious sauce at the bottom of your bowl (pro tip: mix it up before you eat!!!) But honestly, you can't really go wrong with your noodle choice. It's truly up to whatever noodle you prefer! They also have Lime Thai Tea which is SO refreshing! Other things I've ordered here are: - Moo Yang w/ sticky rice (YUMMMM super nostalgic for me) - Fresh Rolls (to get that veggie fix) - Spicy Grilled Beef Salad (also herb forward. I love SEA herbs!) - Hoi Tod Skillet (super nostalgic dish for me as well!)

Great meal at Paddler! The boat noodles has a flavourful broth and lots of toppings. The crisp fried quail wontons are okay, nothing mind blowing. Our group all agreed that Moo yang was a great appetizer with the charred grilled pork belly paired with fragrant sticky rice.

What an amazing hidden gem! Stumbled upon this Thai restaurant and I think I found my new favourite Thai place in the GTA! We ordered the beef boat noodles, Tom yum noodles, mango sticky rice and Thai iced tea - everything was perfection. The beef boat noodles was 5/5 - so flavourful, the best boat noodles I've ever had outside of Thailand, maybe even including Thailand. Tom yum also 5/5, mango sticky rice 4/5, very yummy but could use more mango for the amount of rice. Thai iced tea 5/5 - hits the spot for me. We came on a Sunday night and didn't need to wait (not a huge restaurant, 10-15 tables), service was fast and speedy. Can't wait to come back (again and again) to try more menu items, I already know this is going to be a staple for me!

Strong packed flavours in a homey mom & pop restaurant. Came on a Sunday evening and the restaurant was filled. The restaurant is small and can occupy around 18-20 people. The front of house is managed by one woman who really does it all! She was super friendly in greeting our party of 8 and gave recommendations on dishes we should order - all while giving us huge smiles :) (greatly appreciated!). Came here for their boat noodles but fell in love with their pad thai. Never had boat noodles before so I cannot comment on what they should actually taste like. However, the taste of the boat noodles here were very strong and herby. Don't get me wrong, it did not taste bad. It was just too strong for my palette. Other people in my party really enjoyed the boat noodles and stated it was comparable to those found in Thailand, so give it a go! 7.5/10 The pad thai on the other hand was delicious. The perfect tang and saucey consistency is what got me. The noodles were cooked to perfection and the tofu and chicken toppings I chose were a great pairing. Still thinking about this dish right now - YUM! 9.5/10 Mango sticky rice is also a must. A warm sticky rice with condensed milk and mango chunks to finish off your meal. 8.5/10 Can't wait to come back to try their other dishes. Other people got dishes that also looked and smelled fantastic.

Never been to Thailand but every dish was amazing.... If I had to pick a favourite it would be the pad si-ew. The green curry was very flavourful and had a small kick. The boat noodle was something I've never had before; it was different and exciting. The pad si-ew was perfect blend of savoury, sweet, tangy and "wok hei" (aka breath of the wok). Each dish came with a lot of protein. They're allergy friendly and the staff was great. Will definitely come back for more and try other dishes.

Thai boat noodles (pork) were excellent: rich broth with generous toppings & a little kick. The pork meat was extremely tender. They could have a bit more noodles though. The beef version was good too, though pork was better. Thai iced tea with milk was excellent: rich with a good herbal taste. Mango sticky rice was pretty good, with fragrant coconut sauce.

Had a hankering to try some place new and came across Paddler. Ordered a couple classics so it's easy to compare to others I have tried. Ordered the chicken Pad Thai and chicken green curry. Loved the green curry. It's a little spicier than I normally like but tasty. The pad Thai was okay but until I noticed this bitter taste after each bite. It's a definitely a promising spot!!

Boat noodle soup is very unique. You can choose the toppings and noodles you like. Highly recommended

I'm definitely coming back here!…read more We ordered the Tapioca dumplings, the beef messemen curry, and the mango and purple sticky rice. Wow! It was all so tasty. The tapioca dumplings are unlike anything I've tasted before. They serve it with a side of lettuce, mint and peanuts. I liked the dumplings better without the sides they served! The lettuce and other add ons dim the flavors of the dumplings. So I prefer just eating the dumplings straight on. The Messemen curry was so flavorful and the beef was so tender! I'm a big fan. If you're a fan of Thai curries then you'll definitely like this! The Mango purple sticky rice dessert was also really tasty! It had a tasty coconut sorbet and it all went really well together. Service was good, food came out quickly, vibes were good. No complaints here!

Unfortunately, the day took an unexpected turn when I had to go to the hospital, and for a while I thought I wouldn't make it at all. As a testament to both the kindness of my friends and the exceptional staff at Lao Lao, they were able to accommodate us even though I arrived nearly two hours late on a busy Saturday evening. Originally, our table was only reserved until 8:00 p.m.--the exact time I finally arrived. Thankfully, with the help of our incredible server, Savanna N., everything worked out. Her professionalism, warmth, and willingness to help truly made the evening possible. More than anything, I hoped the wait would be worthwhile for my friends, who were visiting for the first time. I'm happy to say they absolutely loved it--especially the outstanding hospitality and customer service. A huge thank you to Savanna and the entire team for making us feel so welcome. As for the food, every dish was delicious. Nothing disappointed. The papaya salad was such a hit that we ordered it twice. The Beef Massaman Curry, Crispy Lao Spiced Chips, Banana Leaf Steamed Fish, and the seasonal Vermicelli Noodle in Chicken Coconut Red Curry were all exceptional. Although it had been about a year since my last visit, I was delighted to see that Lao Lao remains consistently excellent in its food, quality, and service. Bravo!

We decided to order just a couple main dishes and they were also amazing. The flavors from the curry noodles were very rich and creamy and absolutely delicious. The drunken noodles had a perfect blend of spices just like Hometown and we will definitely go back to try this and the rest of the stuff on the menu again. The service was amazing, we were greeted by the host with a warm welcome, and the waiter was also very kind. It is a true authentic Thai restaurant and the food and flavors are expected and reflect from the culture. Ambience is just like the islands of why the title of the name is there and the decorations are amazing. Let's talk about dessert, the pandan toast was out of this world. Top two with the coconut ice cream and the decorations and the display was already worth $1 million photo. The flavor was not overwhelmingly sweet but Rich at the same time. Thank you for your hospitality and kindness and delicious food and we will definitely be back soon to try the rest of the menu.

I was quite impressed with it... probably rate it slightly higher than Pai and Thai Barn Na. Food (4.5/5) - nice menu with lots of variety and overall good food quality. - Khao Neow Gaeng - this is one of their signature dishes and was fantastic! Stir fried pineapple curry with coconut curry sticky rice. What a great mix of items with great flavour, served in a half pineapple. - Khao Soi - a nice flavourful mix with a tasty curry broth. - Moo Tod - fried pork belly served with a lime sauce. This one was just OK imo... bit on the dry side. - Pandam Toast with Coconut Ice Cream - a really tasty dessert with a toasted custard piece and creamy ice cream. Service (4.25/5) - this place gets busy but they are fairly well staffed and keep an eye on the tables to make sure people are moving through quickly. Maybe can appear a bit standoffish for that reason but not rude at all. Atmosphere (4.25/5) - it has two levels for dining and also a small patio out front. Not as elaborate or upscale an interior as Pai but functional. Overall (4.4/5) - A definite repeat to try some of the other dishes. Be aware that it can get very busy so book with reservations.

This time we ended up at Khao San Road, which was busy from the get go. We got there a couple minutes before opening at 5pm, and before you knew it, there was a line waiting behind us. Inside was quite spacious between tables, and they were playing throwback tracks. We ordered a mango salad to share, which was okay but not my favourite. It got really sour near the end but next time I would try the papaya salad instead. For my personal main, I got the Pad Thai with no spice. It was still very flavourful and the noodles were cooked perfectly. One thing I appreciate is that the portion size is huge!! For me, this could've easily been 2, if not 3 meals. The Thai iced tea was also really good but on the sweeter side. A good restaurant to try if you're coming from out of town, wouldn't be disappointed.
