This is the cutest hidden gem in Roncy's/queen st west. My friends and I stopped by here after a long beach walk and we were craving for something comforting. It was like we were transported to a cafe in Thailand with Instagram worthy decor. My partner got a soup and noodle bowl, and I got the fritter special with coconut for dessert. The soup and noodles reminded me of home, and the fried clam fritters was so tasty. I can't stop thinking about it. It was a bit on the pricy side but I didn't mind paying more to support a small local business when food was THAT good and clearly was a labour of love. I'd passed Paddler many times over the years, and yet it was only this past weekend that we finally walked through its doors. The place was empty but they had just opened up for the day. I probably should have order their specialty, the Boat Noodles, but I had read the Pad Thai ("Stir-fried rice noodles with eggs, tofu, shallots, chive, bean sprouts in tamarind based sauce") was above average, so I went with that instead. And indeed, it's definitely a better-than-most variation of the venerable dish. The noodles were perfectly cooked, the plentiful chicken was fresh-tasting, and the various other components worked very well. And it's also packed with flavor in the way that the best Pad Thai is. My only complaint was the complete absence of heat. I don't need my Pad Thai to be insanely spicy, but just a little kiss of heat would've taken the dish over the top. That's a minor complaint for what was otherwise a delicious plate of food. And the service was friendly and efficient, too. read more

I've gone back and forth between writing my 5-star review, not because I don't think Paddler deserves it, but because I'm worried about no longer being able to come here whenever I want because it's too busy!! It's a cute, small shop with fun, boat-themed decor (bonus, they left their Christmas decorations up for a while which I am 1000% a fan of haha) I hesitate no more because Paddler has been my north star for Thai food and the people need to know how good this place is. Bonus, the staff is so incredibly nice as well! I personally think that Thai Boat Noodles (guaytiew rua) is underrated and deserves way more recognition as a dish and will happily introduce people to this dish if they're meat eaters! For folks unfamiliar with Southeast Asian food, I describe thai boat noodles as very herb-forward. And it's ah-may-zing. So yeah, if you're coming here, definitely get the Boat Noodles! Traditionally, the soup version is typically with Sen Lek, which at this place is medium rice noodle. Whenever I get the dry boat noodles, I get it with the egg noodle because it truly soaks up all that delicious sauce at the bottom of your bowl (pro tip: mix it up before you eat!!!) But honestly, you can't really go wrong with your noodle choice. It's truly up to whatever noodle you prefer! They also have Lime Thai Tea which is SO refreshing! What an amazing hidden gem! Stumbled upon this Thai restaurant and I think I found my new favourite Thai place in the GTA! We ordered the beef boat noodles, Tom yum noodles, mango sticky rice and Thai iced tea - everything was perfection. The beef boat noodles was 5/5 - so flavourful, the best boat noodles I've ever had outside of Thailand, maybe even including Thailand. Tom yum also 5/5, mango sticky rice 4/5, very yummy but could use more mango for the amount of rice. Thai iced tea 5/5 - hits the spot for me. We came on a Sunday night and didn't need to wait (not a huge restaurant, 10-15 tables), service was fast and speedy. Located in Parkdale, we were excited to try this gem! Half the tables were occupied and busier than I expected. We ordered the quail egg wontons, boat noodles, Thai iced tea, and chicken pad thai - no alcohol is served here. Unfortunately, the wait for our food was over 30 minutes for our appetizer. The wonton skin of the quail egg wonton was delicious, but the quail egg didn't enhance the flavours. We ordered one boat noodle to share, which was flavorful, but we weren't a fan of the quality of the protein. We also ordered the chicken pad thai, but it was too tangy/sour, and the chicken was dry. My fave spot for pad see ew! Will drive almost an hour just to get it for lunch on a weekend. Super savoury and flavorful with a lovely wok hei. Of course they're also known for their boat noodles, also very delicious. I prefer their soup version but both the soup and dry version are delicious. Their beef salad is also amazing, so spicy but so good. We haven't had any misses here, but the must order is their (beef) pad see ew. A total hidden gem. Authentic and delicious flavors. Strong packed flavours in a homey mom & pop restaurant. Came on a Sunday evening and the restaurant was filled. The restaurant is small and can occupy around 18-20 people. The front of house is managed by one woman who really does it all! She was super friendly in greeting our party of 8 and gave recommendations on dishes we should order - all while giving us huge smiles :) (greatly appreciated!). Came here for their boat noodles but fell in love with their pad thai. Never had boat noodles before so I cannot comment on what they should actually taste like. However, the taste of the boat noodles here were very strong and herby. Don't get me wrong, it did not taste bad. It was just too strong for my palette. Other people in my party really enjoyed the boat noodles and stated it was comparable to those found in Thailand, so give it a go! 7.5/10 The pad thai on the other hand was delicious. The perfect tang and saucey consistency is what got me. The noodles were cooked to perfection and the tofu and chicken toppings I chose were a great pairing. Still thinking about this dish right now - YUM! 9.5/10 Mango sticky rice is also a must. I dined here two times before and only had the Thai boat noodles. I have not had this dish elsewhere but can say they make a good one here and it's served in a clay pot! Food: The spice blend in this broth makes it distinct from other noodle soup dishes. I thought this broth was the star of the dish. To me, it is not spicy. Never been to Thailand but every dish was amazing.... If I had to pick a favourite it would be the pad si-ew. The green curry was very flavourful and had a small kick. The boat noodle was something I've never had before; it was different and exciting. The pad si-ew was perfect blend of savoury, sweet, tangy and "wok hei" (aka breath of the wok). Each dish came with a lot of protein. They're allergy friendly and the staff was great. Will definitely come back for more and try other dishes. read more

Loved the green curry. It's a little spicier than I normally like but tasty. The pad Thai was okay but until I noticed this bitter taste after each bite. The service here was I don't know what other word to use besides not good. I went there with my girlfriend and our waitress only paid attention to her, I guess cause they spoke the same language. Our waitress never spoke to me, never introduced herself, never ask me what I wanted to eat nor drink. It's like I was John Cena, I was invisible. This is the best Thai restaurant!! Been here a few times for takeout and it's been consistently amazing. Everything we've tried has tasted delicious. This is the only place that I've been able to have delicious dry boat noodles in Toronto. Their pad thai and pad see ew is delicious as well, along with their curries. I'm a huge fan of this spot, wish they opened up another location uptown, not just this one downtown since it is more difficult to get to. They're super nice here and I've had exceptional experiences speaking with the staff despite me just ordering takeout. This is the BEST Thai spot in town. Best boat noodles that resemble Thailand. The Pad Sa Ew is also the best in the city, noodles have the Wok Hay taste, noodles are wide and chewy, the flavours savoury and sweet but they always have chili powder and oil on the side incase you want that spice! read more
