4.5/5! We ordered the - pad thai with pork belly - my bf enjoyed this but think some pieces of pork belly were quite hard, dry, and difficult to chew. Still great portion! - pad kee mao with veggies and tofu - I did like this but felt compared to other Thai restaurants, I've had it spicier (I asked for spicy) and a more in-your-face basil flavour. Still tasty and would get it again. - durian sticky rice - my goodness this was so so delicious!! My bf and I inhaled this and the sticky rice was still so warm and chewy and the coconut milk enveloped the dessert into sweet richness! Would've liked more durian but don't we all :D Service was good, restaurant is beautiful on the inside.
Visited Maya Bay recently. The service was okay, and some dishes were a little spicier than I expected, but I absolutely loved the chicken and the mango sticky rice, so good! If you like flavorful Thai food and don't mind a bit of spice, it's worth checking out.
This place was SOOO GOOD. we got the shrimp dumplings, tom yum noodles with crispy pork, and pina colada. The shrimp dumplings were good. I think the sauce made it stand out and gave it more flavour. The tom yum noodles was better than I expected and the broth was really flavourful, I could taste each ingredient that went into it so I'm guessing they make it from scratch. The crispy pork tho was the highlight of this dish. The pina colada was also really nice. Overall, maybe I just have a bias on southeast asian cuisine but I cant wait to come back here and try their other dishes!
The shop's rich decorations and warm-toned walls create a sense of warmth amidst the winter chill. However, the tightly packed table arrangement makes the space feel noisy, making it more suitable for conversations or dates only if you're seated further inside. During the meal, the staff's timely water refills and efficient packing after the meal deserve full marks for service. We ordered a few signature dishes. The Salted Egg Yolk Fries portion was overwhelmingly large--surprisingly enough to serve four, even as a starter. The flavor leaned on the salty side with a tangy aftertaste; it's worth trying for the novelty, but not more than that. It might be better to offer a smaller portion size for dishes like this. The Leng Saap was reminiscent of braised bones, but since we opted for spinal bones, it felt more like a snack than a signature dish. The broth had a distinctively sour and spicy flavor, but the taste didn't quite infuse into the bones themselves. The Pork Belly was as visually tempting as the pictures suggested and is a dish deserving high praise. While the crispiness of the pork belly was achieved in some parts, the others not.
We called ahead about 15 mins before arriving and was able to get a table for 5 right away. The restaurant is not small but they dont have many large tables so i would suggest calling ahead to reserve for groups of 4+ so they can secure the tables together. We tried a variety of items - my favourites were the fried rice which had a strong curry flavour and the pork bone soup which had a mild flavour but came with LOTS of meat. For dessert we got the thai green tea ice cream which is from kati thai and it was so good!
Friday night with good food is a weekly staple! Tonight we decided to go for Thai food - and must be good one! I work very close from here and I am a big fun of this place, quality, consistency and the culinary creativity always activate all my senses. Ordered the following for pick-up: # Smoked Shrimp Ceviche # Tom Yum Pad Thai by Iron Chef (with Shrimp/Medium) # Crab Fried Rice (medium) # Green Curry Chicken with rice (medium) Warn you, their "medium" can be very hot for many. But I enjoy the complex yet well balanced flavors in their food. Many intense yet delicate flavors hit me when I am eating their food. And heat is one of those many flavors and never overwhelm the others. That is an art. Love their Ceviche. It is the best shrimp dish that I ever had in Toronto. Lightly charcoal seared surface and perfectly melty medium-rare interior. Comes with refreshing and crispy mango salad underneath. I should have ordered more! The seasonings of fried rice hit perfect balance of flavor. Wished the crab was bigger... the amount of crab was a bit smaller than that of rice. But very tasty nonetheless. Green Curry had a lot of chicken pieces and bamboo shoot pieces. Simple, rich and delicious. I like the way they cook rice. Light and fluffy. The simple steamed rice tells me a lot about this place. Pad Thai was delicious - I had different pad thai here before at lunch time and it was good, but this Iron Chef version is truly special with more elevated flavors and complexity, and that with more refined choice of ingredients. I cannot wait to order again!!!
I'm on a quest to find a Thai restaurant on par with Pai and KSR and this unfortunately isn't it. Dropped by on a Friday night in June and the place was busy. We had resos for a party of 4 and thought they would seat us by the front where there were two empty tables. Nope. We were led to the very back of the resto and seated right beside the restrooms. Asked if we can be seated closer to the bar and they said both tables were reserved. Um, we also made a reservation? Whatever. It was one of the hottest and most humid days of the summer and they didn't have A/C. They had the two garage doors (not sure what it's called) open and that was it. Yes, I've been to Asia and understand it's just as hot there. But the problem was that the air didn't circulate to the back of the resto and it felt like a furnace with the kitchen also beside us. At this point, we were just hoping the food would be good. TL;DR: It wasn't. All three dishes were bland. The khao soi was not flavourful at all and my friend said the bamboo shoots tasted 'weird'. Was honestly looking forward to this place but left disappointed and dripping in sweat. LOL. Won't be back.
One of the best Thai food i have tried. Came here for lunch on a summer day..the place is nice it was open dine in during summer. Food is delish and and service is fast. The price is reasonable not to pricey. Definitely will come back.
I came here on a weekday for lunch because I was in the area. The establishment is located on the north west corner of parliament and Carlton. They offer 10% cash discount for parties who are dinning in, ordering from their regular menu, not splitting the bill, and paying cash. The portion is average, but they're generous in terms of proteins and veggies to noodle ratio.
Maya Bay Thai delivers a holiday right on Carlton Street. I was invited for a tasting, yet every thought below is straight from my own happily scorched taste buds. The airy wood laden room feels like a breezy patio on an island, and friendly servers glide in with water refills before you even blink. I opened with Tom Yum Fried Wings that arrived sizzling and fragrant with lemongrass and lime. Each bite stayed juicy to the core. A thick Mango Margarita followed, cinnamon on the rim for a gentle warmth. My camera loved the Whole Pineapple Slushie, but my throat appreciated it even more after the spice kicked in. For mains the Pork Jowl Pad Ka Pao brought serious basil aroma and a perfectly runny onsen egg, while the Pineapple Pork Ribs were tender enough to need only chopsticks. The star, however, was Midnight Mama. Picture a deep bowl of tom yum broth loaded with shrimp, squid, crispy pork, instant noodles and hefty crab legs that almost felt like treasure. Durian Sticky Rice and Mango Sticky Rice balanced the heat with soft coconut scented sweetness, proving dessert can still surprise. Service stayed attentive without hovering and the ten percent cash discount makes a return visit even easier. Tropical flavours, thoughtful execution, and portions make this spot truly worth the detour.
Came here on new years eve. Had a party of 6, they easily accommodated by combining tables. I heard the chef here is an Iron chef. Not sure what that means, but I assume that means topnotch culinary mastery. The menu has a good variety of options, along with a couple pictures. I ordered a tom yum noodle with roast pork. It was fantastic. Pork was incredibly crispy all over with good flavour. The soup was also very enjoyable. Portions are also very large. I think you're MAYBE paying a bit more like around 20 per dish compared to other Thai places, but the size and taste more than makes up for it.
My friend saw this spot on TikTok so we decided to give it a shot. We've been wanting to find a spot other than Pai (our go to). We had reservations and was seated promptly. It was quite busy on the Friday evening. We ordered some drinks and we were surprised to find the drink size was so small for the price. We ordered lots of dishes to try. Long story short, they were just okay. Nothing was really amazing but we did enjoy the soft shell crab curry. My friend and I could have easily shared it as it was quite a large portion instead of ordering one each. Service was decent but towards the end sooooo slow to get our bill. I don't think they had enough staff for a Friday night.
I came here a few weeks ago for my birthday dinner. Definitely make a reservation bc it was busy between reservations/walks ins and delivery takeouts! But the atmosphere and vibe are definitely fun. So let's not waste time. Order the wings - Som Tum. Just do it and thank me later. Then order some more. Hands down these are simply the best wings ever. Sour and a bit spicy, crunchy but still moist (yes yes we all hate that word lol but that's what it was) , you won't regret it. Honestly, I'd just love this as my main meal lol. Next, order yourself the pani puri appetizer. Delicious does not do this justice. If you gave me a plate of the wings and this, I'd be happy for days. Crispy and a bit of spicy, acidic, just a burst of flavour! We ordered the calamari and it was ok, but really can't hold a candle to the wings and pani puri. The mains are all surprisingly very large portions. No one at the table could finish any of their mains lol. After the appetizers I will say they were a bit underwhelming, but still good. I'd probably load up on the apps and then get a main dish to share. I had the Chicken Pad Thai and it was good but not GOOD, if ya know what I mean! The service is friendly, but slooooow. I hate to knock it, but when I say slow...I mean slooooooow. The place was packed and it looked like only 2 people serving. I think perhaps the restaurant was caught off guard how popular they became (it was featured in BlogTO after all) so I will give them a pass on that. But definitely know even waiting for drinks took forever. I'm not going to deduct any stars for that bc I know the restaurant industry is having a difficult time finding/retaining staff. Plus I'd wait forever for those wings lol.
First time trying maya bay and wow, for sure not going to be my last time. The food was absolutely delicious, the drinks were on point, and the spice just took it to another level! Every bite had that perfect Thai kick that keeps you going back for more. If you love bold flavours and good vibes, this spot does not disappoint. The service was AMAZING as well! I've only ever ordered Maya Bay for delivery before, so this was my first time actually dining in. Right away, I noticed that the dine in portions are much bigger than what you get through delivery, which was a nice surprise. We ordered the calamari, pad thai, and pad see ew. Unfortunately, the calamari was a miss for us. The rings were really large and chewy, with no tentacles, and we ended up not finishing it. The pad thai and pad see ew, on the other hand, were pretty solid. Both were flavourful, satisfying, and the portions were very reasonable for the price, especially for Toronto. Service was good and quick, and everything came out fast. Aside from the calamari, I'd still recommend giving Maya Bay a try, especially if you're going for the noodles rather than the appetizers. read more

I had a pretty good experience with this restaurant. The portions were generous and everything arrived piping hot, which is always a plus. I tried the eggrolls, pineapple curry, and pad Thai. The eggrolls were delicious, and the curry had fantastic flavor, definitely a highlight. The pad Thai, however, missed the mark for me. I ordered it with chicken, but it arrived with both chicken and tofu, which felt like an odd choice, especially since I'm not a tofu fan. The dish also had a lot of inedible lemongrass bits, which made it frustrating to eat. Flavor-wise, it leaned more tangy than peanut-forward, which isn't my personal preference. One thing to note: their spice levels are no joke. I ordered medium and it definitely brought the heat! If you're sensitive to spice, you might want to start with mild. Overall, some hits and some misses, but I'd consider ordering again, just probably not the Pad Thai. read more

Right off the bat: I did not expect to have what were possibly my favourite wings ever before I came here. Their Som Yum wings were incredible. Aside from simply tasting amazing, they really did capture the various tastes that you'd associate with som yum (sour and spicy). Another surprise - or even double surprise - was seeing pani puri on the menu and then totally knocking out of the park too. Between these and the wings, it made for two of my favourite appetizers I've had in some time. It would unfair to say it was downhill from there, only to say the mains didn't seem to reach the same heights - though still enjoyable. I ordered the orange pad thai. It was a really good dish and even far bigger portion than I expected. They're not playing around with their spice level either. The pork belly I chose as the protein was just okay. I could be wrong, but it tasted as though it had been prepared earlier. I got a sense from my group the similar feeling of the various mains being quite good but not necessarily exceptional either. But again, a much bigger portion than you'd probably expect. If you're eating family-style it would be completely reasonable to split a pad thai dish in two (or more). Very positive experience overall and a huge menu, so lots more to try. read more
*take out review* Ordered shrimp chips, crab fried rice, tom khlong linguine, salted egg calamari, iron chef pad Thai tom yum. Overall I think the quality was affected by the time it takes for delivery but this was a major disappointment. I also feel like there was a lack of care to the prep work since there were massive pieces of lemongrass and ginger in most dishes. Literal coins of ginger and stalks of lemongrass in it. Shrimp chips - they didn't have it and subbed it with spring rolls for some reason. Spring rolls tasted like supermarket freezer ones. Awful 1/10. Crab fried rice - mushy bland rice with a soggy crab on top 2/10 Tom khlong linguine - interesting flavours and textures but it wasn't for me. I'm sure it's better at the restaurant but from the time it got to me it had that "reheated the next day" taste. It also had giant chunks of INEDIBLE lemongrass in it. 6/10 Salted egg calamari - this was a weird soupy mess with rubber bands. Not much salted egg flavour and had a really fishy taste to it. Idea is great but the execution was pretty bad. 2/10 Iron chef pad Thai tom yum - this was shaping up to be the best thing we ordered but the massive pieces of ginger and lemongrass made it unappealing. It's a shame because it has good flavour and texture. 8/10 I think I'd give this a shot in person but for take out, save your money and get eat BKK (sister restaurant I think) or any of the great Thai places instead. read more
As we're in the middle of hoodie season, nothing beats a warm bowl of soup or stew or chowder to warm you up this winter! I am a huge fan of the Korean Gamjatang for the winter, but now I am pekish for a bowl of the Thai Leng Sapp! Spicy with lots of chili in the broth, it's a great soup to take the chill off from the weather! Oh yeah, not to mention if you combine the soup with a bite of Thai Shrimp Fried Rice, it's the perfect balance between spicy and savory! The service was terrific as the tables were cleaned and well-maintained for every customer. There were good safety precautions to ensure diners have a safe and positive dining experience. Funny enough we had a craving for Thai food three days after we came back from Bangkok. So did they deliver or were we disappointed? Quite surprisingly, we enjoyed the meal and it was quite authentic!! Yah! Even the sauces had an authentic flare and kick to them. We enjoyed the pad Thai and their special pork belly was delicious! After months of self isolation, it was nice to be out again, sharing a delicious meal with friends. I love Thai food so when it was suggested that we go to Maya Bay, I was in! This is the newest offering from the folks behind Eat BKK and Koh Lipe so they have a proven track record. Maya Bay is a simple but well executed place on the corner of Parliament and Carlton. The decor is simple and attractive, very well done. The windows on the east side open up to reveal a counter for street sales of mostly snacks and beverages. They seemed to be doing some decent business while we were there. With six of us dining, we each chose a dish, with the intention of sharing. Being a social outing, we also had a few cocktails, all refreshingly tasty! First to arrive, was the Salmon Lui Suan Salad. This was a nice fresh offering, topped with raw salmon, accompanied by a spicy dressing on the side. I don't usually eat a lot of salmon, especially raw, but this was very good! Next, was the Khao Soi Beef, featuring a delicious Thai curry with noodles done two ways, soft, and crispy. A couple of us were reluctant to order this dish but it turned out to be one of our favourites! Fries, to me, didn't seem to fit in with the rest of the menu but the Salted Egg Yolk Fries were absolutely delicious! They were nice and crispy! Yup, they belong! The Chilli & Salt Crispy Pork Belly came next. The meat was nice and lean and the skin deliciously crispy. Nice flavours! Being allergic to shrimps, I wasn't able to enjoy our next dish, Smoked Chilli Shrimps with Rice and Scrambled Egg. Everybody else did though! I was able to try some of the egg with the sauce. It was delicious! Striploin Steak on Rice with Jim Jaew (sauce) was served with a salad and a soft boiled egg. Nice combination. Although delicious, I would have preferred the beef to be less well done. Closer to medium, medium rare would have been ideal for me. Everybody loved the Karee Soft Shell Crab! This might not have been the prettiest dish but it tasted pretty darn good! To finish off our wonderful evening, we had some shaved ice - coconut, honeydew, and coconut. It was all very refreshing on such a hot day, and delicious! It was the right type of dessert for the evening! Overall, it was a wonderful evening of of good food with friends. Where are we going next? PS - With the large windows open to accommodate sidewalk service, the temperature in the restaurant was a little high, almost uncomfortable at first. It was a very hot day. 4.5 Newly opened Thai restaurant from those that brought you Koh Lipe and Eat BKK is Maya Bay located on the corner of Parliament and Carlton where Kanpai used to be. They sell street snacks by the opened up windows such as Pandan custard pancakes, Thai coconut takoyaki and more. Went with a group of friends to try out this new spot and really enjoyed their dishes! Which dishes do I recommend? 1. Khao Soi - usually at most places you get a heavy creamy curry sauce but at Maya Bay it was so light and tasty! 2. Omg everyone loved the salted egg fries! There's a hint of citrus to bring down the heaviness you may feel from the salted egg yolk, making you want more! 3. Karee soft shell crab was such a flavourful dish 4. Smoked chili shrimp with rice and scrambled egg, this dish brought back memories from my childhood of my aunties cooking. I also loved the poached egg on the crispy pork belly dish, just thought it wouldve been perfect with some of that chili lime sauce that came with the salmon dish. Also if you're a durian lover like me they also have durian sticky rice! I ordered that to go and the durian was flavourful and the sauce on the sticky rice was a tad salty to balance out the sweetness of the dish. Chanced upon Maya Bay's storefront window with a poster promoting a guest chef who won Iron Chef Thailand, which piqued our interest. We've now dined twice here and like this the best among the Eat BKK owners' growing number of Thai restaurants in the city. Over a couple of meals we got: - Pick and Dip: Special appetizer by the guest Iron Chef. The stir-fried chopped shrimp and pork dip was tasty and paired well with the shrimp crackers. - Som Tum Chicken Wings: An appetizer that I could eat for my main meal as well, this was by far my favourite dish. The som tum dressing was otherworld-tasty while the chicken it was bathed in was somehow still crackling-fried. Some of the best wings I've had in the city. - Fried Calamari starter: The calamari was unfortunately really rubbery. The coating was good though (not overly thick and battered) and the coconut dipping sauce was a fresh change. - Salted Egg Fries: Yummmmm! I love me anything with salted egg, so this just elevated the fries. - Tom Klong Linguini with Pork Belly: Another item on the Iron Chef menu, this was the biggest disappointment of the bunch. The noodles were nice, especially with the strong lemongrass taste. But the pork belly was inconsistent - some pieces were delightfully crispy, others were just too hard to chew. - Soft Shell Crab Karee: Soft shell crab was cooked well (tender and chewy). The tumeric curry was mild which my wife loved but I would have liked more kick (we asked for mild, so up your spice level if you're more like me). - Salted Egg Calamari: Again the calamari was overly rubbery. But that salted egg sauce it was bathed in was so good. - Durian Sticky Rice: Generous amount of mashed durian over properly milky/coconuty sticky rice. - Lychee Lime Juice: Good contrast with the sweetness of the lychee with the sourness of the lime. Generally pricey but worth a try. Service is polite and quick/efficient. Tables a bit close to one another but not uncomfortably so. We were drawn in by the guest chef, but definitely came back for their regular menu items. read more

Decided to give this place a shot since it had a great promo running in uber eats. Decided to order all 3 of the dues he's that qualified for buy 1 get 1 free. Pad Thai was the highlight of the 3. Serving size was massive, tasted great and well seasoned. Green curry was definitely mildly spicy and packed with meat. Pad kra pao pretty standard overall. Overall based on the three dishes I'd say this place is a solid Thai restaurant. Even without the promo it's great! read more
{Service} Went here for dinner with my cousins and we were seated promptly. Our server was nice and mostly attentive however we had to ask for water, so -1 for that. 4/5* {Food} We ordered off their special menu and also their regular menu. Special menu items will be marked with a * Spring Rolls 4/5* Pretty good spring rolls, not the best I've had tho. Thai Iced Tea 4/5* Creamy and sweet but a tiny bit not strong enough for me. Orange Pad Thai* 3/5* Kind of bland, not much orange flavour at all. Tasted like a bland pad thai. Original Pad Thai 5/5* Much more flavourful and delicious pad thai sauce. Everyone agreed it was one of the best pad thais we've tried. Tom Klong Linguine* 4/5* This is a linguine pasta with a lemongrass based semi-dry sauce. Loaaaads of flavour, easily the most flavourful thing we ordered. Came with bonito flakes but I thought it was veggie, so be careful. The taste was addicting and I couldn't stop eating it. -1 for the off-tasting tofu. Khao Soi 3/5* Didn't try the noodles so rating is only for the broth - flavour was kinda weak and weirdly anise-y, very unlike other khao sois I've tried. Personally would not get this. {Ambiance} Nice chill atmosphere and casual dinner spot. Not too loud and there will usually be a table available even if you walk in, but better to make reservations for dinner. This is my new favourite restaurant right now and it's driving me wild with flavours. It's so different from all the other Thai restaurants in the city. I've mainly ordered from their 'iron chef Thailand" menu and it's been an absolute delight. Every dish feels new yet familiar at the same time. Always a delicate balance of sweet, salty, & tangy in every bite. Would order again 100%: Pick & dip, Pani puri, shrimp ceviche, som tum wings. Soft shell crab fried rice (It's an excellent dish to balance out the stronger flavours of those I ordered above. Most of the flavour is from the soft shell crab but it comes with this sauce that I enjoyed putting on top of the rice for extra flavour). Things that coasted in the middle: The mango cocktail. Perhaps mango wasn't quite as ripe as I'd like? Things I wouldn't order again: Surf & turf. Most pleasing presentation but lacked in flavour compared to everything else ordered. Perhaps we should have started with this first? There was a pork bone dish in the center with a pineapple soup? the pineapple was a bit too strong for me. Great atmosphere. Servers are nice. A few girlfriends of mine and I came here to have dinner Friday evening. Go early because after 6, it starts to get busy. We opted to do family style that way we can sample a more wider variety of foods. Here's what we got. Som Tum Chicken Wings - so good. I'm very particular about chicken and how's its seasoned as well as smells this was very good. Spicy enough but not overpowering. Tom Yum Pad Thai - again definitely hit the spot in terms of flavours and aromas. Surf & Turf Plater - pretty generic. Honestly, skip this one. The shrimps were alright. Mussels too. Our beef was over cooked. I don't eat pork however my friends did enjoy the pork soup at the centre of the plater. Pad Ka Pao - generally we all liked it but there wasn't anything memorable about it. There's a wide variety of drinks for those that like it boozy. I opted for Thai ice tea since I don't drink. It was quite sweet so I ended up having to water mine down. But still quite good. Service is very slow. When we went, there was 1 man serving 5 large groups before another member of staff showed up. They are nice though. They did give us complementary fries. Seemed a bit off for a Thai place but I guess it's fusion so it's okay. They were good though. read more

We came here to check out the special menu from Iron Chef Thailand. We got the smoked shrimp ceviche which came in a huge glass lid that would unveil the dish inside. It's a really stunning appetizer and the server informs you before opening it if you want to take a picture or video so you don't miss the "mini smoke show". The shrimp were huge and carried that smoky flavour which paired well with the tangy granita. We also ordered the Tom yum noodle soup and durian sticky rice from their regular menu. I preferred the pork belly over the shrimp because they make it super crispy. The sticky rice was nice and warm but I was surprised how white the durian was because I'm used to it having a more pastel yellow hue. I'm assuming it's probably because the fruit might not be in season? And because of that it had a more meaty texture to it versus the more custard texture. This would be my one critique about the meal we got. (also I don't remember if it even had the strong pungent smell it usually has). Overall we had a great experience at Maya Bay. The servers are all friendly and the food didn't take too long to be served. So if you are ever in the Cabbagetown area or you are looking for some good Thai food, make sure to check them out! read more
Came here to try the Iron Chef from Thailand dishes! The Tom yum phai Thai was yummy. We got the seafood platter, the soup was amazing, loved th sourness and tenderness of the meat but the steak on the side was cold and dried. The shrimps were big and juicy. The Khao soi we got was on the sweeter side, it was still good. One item we wish we didn't get was the veggie fried rice. We were way too full after and nothing wow us. read more
Excellent Thai food! This was the best pad thai I've had since I was actually in Thailand. The restaurant itself is fairly casual and the servers are friendly and attentive. Portions are definitely generous. When we were here for lunch, the windows were all wide open for ventilation so an extra sweater might be good to have on hand. I will definitely be back! read more
