Similar to a previous reviewer, I have been driving past Padua Pasta Makers for over five years. On Wednesday, after a visit to the Post Office (directly across the street), my wife suggested we eat lunch at Padua because it was so close. I had a delicious Padua sandwich. My wife couldn't decide between the eggplant stack and the spaghetti - so we ordered both (took the spaghetti home). Wife raved about the eggplant, and I loved the sandwich. Great atmosphere, great selection of Italian foods, and friendly and fast service. I highly recommend. Note that the most available parking spaces are across Third Avenue on the southwest corner of Third and Arrow. read more

Horrible service, took longer to pay then it did to get our food, food was okay at best. Also ordered pasta and there was literally NO sauce, when I asked for some they said were "out" but conveniently they had sauces packaged up for sale that cost more than the pasta itself which I had to buy,. I tried this place last year and am now obsessed! Every time I come, I get the pesto pasta salad and Tuna sub sandwich. They also have a different hot food selection everyday and I had the penne pasta last Monday and it was so so good! I live in San Bernardino And travel to Upland about once a month and this my ho to spot for lunch. They make fresh pastas and cookies as well. I intended to take a picture of the pizza slice before I ate it but once I took that first bit, i devoured it! I sat outside, making eye contact with every one sitting in their cars at the stop light as I wanted to send a message to them. I wanted them to see how enjoying this slice was, telepathically. I'm pretty sure I made this dude feel weird because it turned into a starting contest, I was zoned out though. That's how good it was. I actually went in for a sandwich. I was my first time. I live down the street and was under the impression they only sold fresh pasta. I walked in saw the sandwiches, pasta dishes, and then the pizza. Their daily deal so happened to be a slice for 3 bucks! The pizza looked thick, beady and cheesy. Sometimes one thinks, "ah it's just bread" but this was the good type of "just bread". They heated it up for me, and as thick as it was it was still as crunchy as a thin crust. And the cheese. The cheese was flavorful, not some basic American claimed mozerella. I love this place! I first discovered Padua back in 2017 when I was looking for fresh sourdough bread. I was very pleasantly surprised to see the full deli and that they also made sandwiches. I love that I can call ahead and have the order ready to be picked up within 15-30 minutes. Food is consistently good. Service is always friendly and courteous. Food is good, a little pricey, they won't give you a cup of water they make you buy one. They do not answer their phones so that you can place a Phone order at any time, if, in the rare instance you do get through they are not friendly. When you order at the restaurant be prepared for a long wait and it seems like you are an inconvenience to them. The bad because the sandwiches are good. read more

We've eaten just about every sandwich on the menu-never disappointed. The ingredients are great quality and they definitely don't skimp out on the quantity. The pasta dishes are excellent as well. The prices are a bit on the high side but you get more than what you pay for here. Tip: Parking next to Padua is very limited but you can park in the big lot on the SW corner of Arrow and Third (for free). read more

My husband and I come here often. I grew up down the street and being here always feel like home. My husband raves about their tuna and I have no favorites because everything I've had has been so good. I can say I dream about their chocolate chip cookies. I also love buying their fresh pasta and marinara for an at home pasta feast. I don't know how people are saying their service is sub-par, everyone we have met has been so pleasant. You can be the only customer inside and you practically have to beg someone to take your money. 3-4 employees just chit-chatting...They're usually out of something I want and thats too bad for you they don't even TRY to accommodate you They must make too much money with such lame service and inconsistent supply! I don't even live around here idk why I keep trying it... the Vons by my house makes Italian sandwiches, never runs out of cheese or bread (!) , they have Excellent quick service and has a bigger selection of Italian ingredients in their lil bougie section...Sad b/c we really need more specialty places this one just doesn't even try! I have been waiting forever to visit Padua! I live in Vegas and by the time I usually arrive in the Upland area on Fridays they are already closed for the day. This time I was able to make it Upland by mid afternoon so I finally got to check this place out! This deli has all the basic Italian needs and wish I had this place closer to my house! They have home made pastas and sauces available to take home. I decided to take home the ravioli and the red sauce. This was great to eat after my trip back on Sunday! I then ordered the meatball sub to eat that day. It was awesome! So cheesy with the sauce and fresh bread. I really recommend this sub. Then for dessert I had the cannoli. When going to an Italian deli you have to order some kind of dessert! The cannoli was fully filled with the cream and was delicious. The staff can seem annoyed but those lines do keep growing and they do stay busy, But when it comes down to the sandwiches or needing assistance on store products ,They are very helpful. "The Frenchie" is one my favorites and to go too. A smooth goat cheese spread with a Fig Jam and Arugula laid on a delicious French bread You just can't go wrong with the freshness of the sandwiches. Get everything as it is. Once you start removing items, you're ruining the magic. Every single sandwich is the best thing in the world. The bread, the red bell pepper....I want to work here just so I can eat here everyday. Also, a good place to find lady fingers to make some tiramisu. Really love the physical ambience of this space and Italian cookies + Padua special is the perfect Italian sandwich at a good price. Unfortunately I have had a disappointing and unwelcoming customer service experience. On my birthday before a hiking trip we arrived in the parking lot a few minutes before they opened to pick up some treats. We were greeted by a man who had come out of the building before we could get out of our car who told us the place was closed (yes we know sir, we have internet access and it's 10 til. We can wait.) So fast forward 15 minutes. When we arrived at the door the staff seemed to be inexplicably avoiding us, but we happily waited. What felt uncomfortable was that When someone did come to the door, rather than open up and greet us as you would expect, the girl swooped over to the door, unhinged the lock and scurried away without making eye contact and evidently without feeling a need to acknowledge us. It really tarnished my fondness of the place, I believe in a certain standard of kindness. Even if you're busy you still should maintain a customer service orientation and not make people feel like they're a disruption. Very high quality goods I can't knock but my peeps let's not be snooty. Be kind to your customers. read more

I bought three items from Padua Pasta Makers and they were all fantastic. I went a couple of weeks ago. I bought a deli sandwich that I ate immediately and it was very good. I bought two cannoli to bring home and share with my wife after dinner and mine was amazing. Really hit the spot. Lastly I bought a pound of fresh bucatini pasta which I realized I wasn't going to cook right away so I sealed it in a bag and stored it in my freezer. I just cooked it tonight, tossed it in a rolling boil with plenty of salt and it was done in about three minutes. Tastes excellent! I went there especially for this bucatini since it's not available in my grocery stores. Will definitely get it here again! read more

located right in front of Upland Post Office. like how fresh the ingredients are. all the sandwiches are made fresh. sides are made daily. I got their lunch box special because it came with different variety of things inside the box. First you pick a sandwich and a side and box comes with pickle, pepper, and chocolate. The box seemed a bit expensive but I think all the gourmet sandwich places run about the same. The inside of the place is very clean since its new. One thing i dont like about this place is parking.... very hard to find parking... the parking space next to the store is very limited.. I would suggest parking on the streets instead of trying to find parking next to the store. They have deli side and another side with cookies and pasta. Haven't had the chance to try their cookies or pasta yet. Limited in seating inside as well. They do get busy during lunch hours. I would suggest to go there before 12:10 to avoid the crowds. They also have market side where they sell olives, sauces, and different kinds of jelly as well. Overall was a good experience but not sure if its something I can afford daily. Wow this place is beautiful! It looks like my dream kitchen complete with a full staff that know how to cook/bake! It stands on its own in a corner on the outer edges of down town Upland. The parking lot only has a couple of spaces and not worth the hassle. However, right across the street is an easily accessible city parking lot with plenty of spaces. Inside, Italian food/products galore to take home or eat in, but if you plan to eat in, it's very informal, seat yourself and dig in to your goodies (i.e. no table service). On my first visit, I ordered a 6 inch Caprese sandwich. Fresh and flavorful mozzarella, tomato, and basil on a fresh baked roll. The sandwich was generously stuffed, causing me to save half of it for dinner (cool problem to have ;-). Washed it down with a refreshing pompelmo flavored San Pellegrino soda. On my second visit, they were hosting an open house--score! I was treated to lots of yummy samples, including flavored olive oils, breads, rigatoni, short rib ravioli, salami, cheese, and wine. There was a very charming gentleman at the cheese/salami station who described the cheeses in such elaborate detail that I could almost picture his small home town in southern Italy where one of the cheeses originated from. I was sold! Picked up some of this cheese and a salami roll. Also took home some sandwiches--(1) Roasted pepper and (2) the Padua Special. The roasted pepper is served warm with ricotta, mozzarella, and herb butter--simply divine, and my new favorite. The Padua Special is also quite delcious with mortadella, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato and dressing. The pasta is freshly made in house, and the sample I tasted was excellent. So for dinner, I could not resist taking home some rigatoni, marinara sauce, and humongous meatballs (nearly tennis ball size). The meatballs were great, and the rigatoni was some of the best pasta I have ever tasted. And of course, for dessert, Spumoni! It can get a little pricey, but it's all high quality, fresh, and tastes better than what many restaurants offer. For my third visit, I picked up another Padua Special sandwich to split with my hubby. And for dinner, took home some lasagna, stuffed peppers, and arancini. Also a small container of dark chocolate salted gelato. The sandwich was just as good as it was last time, and I really enjoyed the lasagna, but not a fan of the arancini. It was made with rice pilaf, and not what I was expecting. However, the gelato made up for my disappointment with the arancini. Overall, I really like this place. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is with regards to service. There is one young lady behind the deli who comes across as a little surly and abrupt. I've been wanting to try Padua Pasta Makers for ages, but i wasn't really sure what to expect. Is it a store or a restaurant? Do they have seating? I JUST DON'T KNOW! Luckily my girl, Danmo helped me make up my mind with her awesome review and I ran right down there this week. It was easy to find and they have a very small parking lot attached and we were able to get a spot at lunch. Inside was not too busy, but they had a steady stream of customers. So to answer my questions, YES! It's a store... super cute, lots of delicious treats, cheese, salami, fresh pasta, salads, sweets, drinks, chips, bread... plus cute little gifty things, too. YES! It's a restaurant. They make sandwiches and they were very good! Also, on Wednesdays they apparently make hot pasta dishes, but alas, I was there on Thursday. I'm planning to return on a Wednesday so I can try the pasta. they also have cold salads, olives and other deli style cold treats that you can get by weight as well as dishes that are pre-made and ready for you to take and bake. I had the meatball sandwich and found it quite yummy and my lunch pal had the Padua Special that had all kinds of things on it. My sandwich was hot, hers cold. They were both great! It took almost 10 minutes for the sandwiches to be ready once ordered. They do not have any fountain drinks, but they have bottled soft drinks, as well as beer and wine. Tables are scattered around. Seating is somewhat limited, but there is definitely seating there and the larger tables can be shared. Steps, order your food, pick out your drink then when your food is ready, pay at the cashier, sit, eat. Prices were reasonable/average for lunch. I recommend! As I write this review I am still licking the sauce from the meatball sandwich off my fingers. Let me tell you this place is a great little gem. When I first walked in I was a little confused because everything is separate. There was a counter for deli, pasta, sides, sandwiches and the far side is the cash register. After walking around aimlessly I just stood around waiting to be helped. I came here on a hunt for a local place that makes fresh pasta. I got the pappardelle ($5.50lb). Don't come into the store hungry because there are so many great things to eat here. From the other reviews I decided to try the meatball sandwich with a side of the pesto salad. The bread here is baked fresh daily and the outside has a nice crunch with a fluffy inside. The meatballs are sliced so you don't have to fight to keep them in the sandwich. My only complaint here is since they are sliced a 6 in sandwich has only 3 meatballs ( I don't count, just a guess). Another tip is that everything like sides and sweets are charged per lb. Don't get too carried away or you will end up forking over more than you expected. read more

Quite honestly the best sandwiches in town! The rolls and breads are amazing and everything is ridiculously fresh! My husband and I like to get a lunch box, which includes a cold sandwich (we tried the Padua Special and can't seem to order a different kind of sandwich because they're so good), a small side salad, pickle and a sweet little treat. They put so much meat on the sandwich, that we can only eat half for lunch and enjoy the other half for dinner! The bread is WONDERFUL and their selection of Italian meats and cheese is worth the trip alone. Obviously the pasta is delicious, the pizza (which you can buy by the slice), calzones, sausage and peppers, cookies, cannoli are excellent. To be forthright, the parking lot is super small, but there is a large lot across the street. The counter service isn't always "friendly", but I've never found it to be discourteous and it's certainly more friendly than the Soup Nazi :) I don't know if I would be happy/skippy all the time if I had to deal with the general public every day. This place is a real treasure! It's bright and clean and even offers indoor and outdoor seating. I will first have to say this is the best Italian anywhere around Upland, even Claros. I have been going there since they opened. I feel I have a good sense of Italian food since I grew up in an Italian neighborhood in New York where Italian food is more common. I have even sent diehard Claros fans from my friends in Orange County where I used to live because I felt that strongly about the food and the authenticity. However, I feel they have poor business practices when it comes to customer service. It is hot and cold. For sure there is no good will or interest in serving the community in good faith. I few times ago I order pasta and meatballs and asked if I could get grated cheese. This I feel is a common request for an Italian deli. It's like asking for hot sauce at a Mexican taco stand. They said they charge for it as I paid 3 dollars for a little grated cheese. No biggy but quite odd. The main thing I am having contention with is with the daily specials. The daily specials are premade and kept in a warmer ready to serve. It is a great offering. I have been buying the daily specials for years and through the years they "were running out" of the food earlier and earlier each year. It started like around 6 they a couple years later 5 then recently the have been running out exactly at 4 pm. I even thought ok cool if I want it I need to make sur I get there before 4 until I got there before 4 a couple of times and it was already put away or "ran out". What even happened to good faith. Then I thought I will call a view minutes before and order it and then pick it up. This is due to the fact that I watch my mom who is 95 and has Alzheimer's and it is getting hard for her to walk from the parking lot to the store. I have done this twice around 4 pm only to find out they were out of food. I can't leave in the care of course for fear she would walk off. So I have been calling before a couple of times and the last couple of times they didn't answer the phone. I called consecutively with no answer. Ok I can see if they don't want to offer that after by certain time but they have made not rule or indication about that, and they are open until 7 but offer no other food special or otherwise. I have noticed in the last year or two that they have been packing the leftovers and offering them as frozen. Evidence would suggest that this is the case because the specials are the only food offer of that kind other than when it is frozen. Deductive reasoning would suggest. I am not sure they even care. This is one of my regular spots and I love it. My favorite is the Genoa Special Sandwich while my wife prefers the turkey sandwich. Another favorite is the lasagna and the cooked sausage.
