I went to Page Road Grill last night for dinner for the first time with coworkers. I've been there before but only for lunch. It was nice that the dinner menu had different option than the lunch menu so I could try something new. Our server recommended the Buffalo chicken bites for an appetizer and it was delicious. As for entrees, he recommended the risotto, burger or steak. I went with the risotto and added shrimp. I loved the artichoke and pesto sauce! Usually I only write updates to change a restaurant's ratings, but Page Road Grill remains a solid 5 stars for me a year later, and that says a lot! My boyfriend and I have been back multiple times, and every time the food, service, and ambiance has been consistently excellent. The latest time we went, we got the Crab Dip (of course) and Pan Roasted Brussels Sprouts with bacon, jalapenos, onion, and honey for starters. Oh my gosh, those brussels sprouts were INCREDIBLE! Perfectly roasted with an amazing sweet glaze. I'm craving them as I type this. We also shared the Pork Tenderloin (strawberry and basil salsa, kale, goat cheese, balsamic reduction) from their "Land" portion of the menu. It was pretty good, but the starters and dessert were the real winners of this meal. For dessert, we had the Banana Bread Pudding with pecans and ice cream. I can't place the flavor of the ice cream, but it paired perfectly with the moist, warm banana bread pudding. I wasn't blown away by the menu items we got. I was really excited to order crab cakes until I learned they weren't actually blue crab. I'm from the west coast and there's nothing like blue crab. Anyways, I went with the Ribeye and it was good. Didn't blow me away. The drinks were pretty good - I got the margarita. My colleague ordered the risotto and he was happy with it. Have eaten at this place a few times. Really like it. Service is good. Food is good and it's very convenient to where we stay. We had the brussels sprouts. I could've used a little more salt and seasoning, but it was a huge portion. We then split a risotto and added shrimp. This place is near my office and is close enough for us to walk to. They are part of the Chapel Hill Restaurant Group, which has several good restaurants including MEZ right next door. The food is Southern diner fare -- think shrimp and grits, crab cakes, salads, burgers, sandwiches, etc. While I enjoy the food, the service the last two times I've eaten here has been pretty poor. Both waitpersons were pretty bland and absent. We wouldn't see them for long stretches, the did not refill our drinks, and we had to wait a long time to get our bills. Poor service is the main reason for the three-star review. I wish that it were better. read more

This place has a really nice, quiet, clean feeling. A great workday lunch option if you have time for a sit down meal. A pretty diverse menu of American food at reasonable prices, and the portions are large. They put their own spin on some classic items; for instance, their Turkey sandwich comes with a fruit preserve on it that works really well with the other ingredients! We arrived at 11:30 for lunch. Party of 5. We were seated immediately. I could see the kitchen door from our booth. This was fine except I didn't have any cell service ?? It was kinda odd. Maybe too far back into the restaurant ? Our waitress was friendly and helpful. I had the "daily" salad special with an added veggie patty. The salad was delicious and the patty was also crispy and delicious. The pulled pork sandwich was a popular choice at our table. Everyone said it was good. I did try the homemade potato chips. They were just OK. I saw a few desserts come out of the kitchen that looked yummy. Maybe next time. I hope to come again and try the pimento cheese appetizer. read more

My coworkers and I headed to Page Road Grill for dinner with other colleagues. We got there before everyone else, so we kicked the night off with the first round of brews. Page Road Grill seemed to be quite the popular spot for after work libations as the bar was super packed for a Tuesday evening around 6pm. We managed to sneak by the large parties and had no issues with ordering our drinks from the bar. After we grabbed our drinks, my coworker went up to the hostess to inquire about the 15-person party she made reservations for. Surprisingly our tables were ready to go, and we didn't have to wait for the entire party to arrive. The service was great. Our server was on top of refilling our drinks, and our orders came out very promptly. The overall food wasn't bad. I get that the restaurant was trying to maintain the integrity of Southern flavors while re-imagining Southern comfort food. We shared a few tapas including shrimp hush puppies, black eyed peas hummus, onion rings, and buffalo wings. For my main entree I ordered the brisket. The following is my review for each item: - The shrimp hush puppies came out with a side of sauce that was like a remoulade. The shrimp hush puppies weren't all that memorable, but I'm sure they were fine enough to not have anything really to complain about. - The black eyed peas hummus was unique! It tasted strongly of black eyed peas, so I take that it was made with hardly any chickpeas or none at all. But hey, I'm a fan of black eyed peas, so I thought that it was an interesting take on hummus. This dish came with different pickled veggies for dipping. I've only ever had okra and green tomatoes fried or sauteed, so I enjoyed trying something totally new. - The onion rings were basic but delicious. I loved the batter that the rings were deep fried in! I believe some type of corn flake batter was used, because it made the onion rings extra crunchy. This dish came with ranch dipping sauce. - The buffalo wings were OK. They were drenched in the buffalo sauce, which I didn't think was as spicy as I'm used to. The wings were also sitting on blue cheese dressing and topped with celery. What's nice was what they were made with boneless wings, so you save yourself the mess from holding wings. - I was disappointed with the smoked brisket entree. In my mind, I thought that the smoked brisket was going to be like Texas-style brisket. It was nothing like I expected. The "smoked brisket" came as a braised beef. Was I misled or is this how NC smokes brisket? There was also supposed to be a creole horseradish sauce to go along with it. I think it was the brown glaze I saw on top of the beef, but I tasted neither the creole flavors nor horseradish. Second bummer for me, because I absolutely love horseradish and didn't get any of the horseradish pungency that I enjoy about it. Solid 4.5 - I've had the pleasure of having food catered from here on several occasions, been to lunch and supper in the restaurant, have done several take outs and even attended a private party. Every time, the food is tasty. Service depends on who is there but I've had no "problems" - just some staff members are better than others. If you are in the area and need food that is above the usual, this is a great place. They have a menu with variety. The food quality here is higher than most eateries in the area. I would also recommend for small to mid size office catering. They come on time and bring everything you need. I enjoy their pimento cheese, Brussel sprouts, salmon, risotto, shrimp and grits and more. I'm not a fan of their crab dip - but I think it's just a personal preference. read more

We had a great early dinner here!! We came in early and by 6 this restaurant was packed! A very popular restaurant. Although raining, we sat at the roofed, windowed patio. The cool breeze and outside view was fun!! The menu is small but everything is house made - including delicious sweet potato waffle and regular fries!! My husband had the burger, his fave, which looked delicious with several toppings! I have food allergies. PRG was very accommodating!! I ended up w shrimp and grits, no bacon. I got the risotto and my husband got the steak, both were flavorless. The risotto was soggy on the outside and crunchy on the inside, the shrimp was over cooked and chewy. The steak came with potatoes that were also bland and over cooked. We saw our waitress about twice. This is a pretty good no frills restaurant in the Tri Center area. Very good for a lunch meeting or a work team lunch and conveniently located in the heart of the Durham/Raleigh Tri Center area. Seating is pretty ample, and they have different areas for your mode of lunch: - private biz lunch - social lunch - date lunch - etc. I usually get the Mediterranean salad here with crab cake as the protein. DELISH! Beware of the olives tho as they're super salty (as i think they're supposed to be). TIP: ask for extra lettuce if you're looking for a bigger portion for lunch. the lettuce in this salad tends to get lost amidst the olives, onions, croutons, etc. read more

Went to Page Road Grill for drinks and appetizers after a curling event in that area. We called ahead during the week since we knew we were a big group (16) on a Sat night. I really was less than impressed in all areas. The restaurant had a nice look to it. The noise level was medium which I expected for that type of restaurant. Service wasn't great, often had to wait for waitress for refills ( it wasn't that busy) She brought 1-2 drinks out at a time versus using a drink tray or having others help her. We ordered about 6 appetizers ( 2 of each type) The appetizers were mediocre at best. I did like the crab dip. No one at our table was super Impressed w any of the appetizers. My least favorite were the hush puppies. They tasted soggy and looked burned. No one even knew what they were. We had to ask the waitress. There were some menu items that looked good, but since this was a work thing and ordering food wasn't an option( unless we paid for it ourselves) I wasn't able to try it. I organized a business dinner here recently, and the staff was very accommodating. What started as a group of 4 quickly turned into 8, then 11, and there I was calling them 30 minutes before our reservation to try and make it 15. They accommodated us right down to the wire despite a packed house, and that gets major props in my book. First, the food and drinks - a large drink list, with plenty of options for every taste. The food was the best part though. We started with some assorted breads (delicious and warm), pimento cheese dip (pretty good), and shrimp and corn hushpuppies (delicious). I opted for the pork shank, which was perfectly cooked and super flavorful. Honestly, for $19, I got a meal that was equal or better quality to similar at Washington Duke for probably half the price. Dish came with cheddar grits (savory and delicious), braised red cabbage (good but a little too much sweetness for me), and a sweet potato gravy. So good. Fell apart with the touch of a fork. Handling a big table (we ended up with 13, I think) is never easy, so I give some leeway to the service. There were a number of small things that didn't go to plan, and a number of requests that took far too long or got forgotten - but a gentle reminder and they fixed the issues promptly. Some staff are crazy busy while others are standing around doing nothing or looking at their cell phones. The bartender here is a good worker and always busy, but pulling him away from making drinks at the bar for customers and the waiters is a bad idea. I came here for lunch while on a business trip. Bartender was busy running back and forth out of the bar while manager was just walking around and a waitress was looking at her phone. This place is a gem. We came for dinner and the menu had many wonderful options. Small, plates, large plates, amazing salads and starters. You really cannot go wrong with anything - I have loved everything I have tried here. For appetizers we got the shrimp and corn hush puppies. These are a must. They are served with warm pimento cheese dip (which is basically a creamy version of pimento cheese and it's awesome). There a quite a bit with the order - there were 3 of us and we had leftovers. We also ordered the spinach and artichoke dip. It was not the best I have ever had, it's served cold - but it was definitely very tasty. Served with baguette and crudités. As I do before going to any restaurant, I look at photos on Yelp and noticed there were many photos of the shrimp and grits. This is not usually my go to - but it was definitely the right choice. It is not a bowl of grits as you may get other places, it's a grit cake with an amazing sauce. I think I actually prefer the grit cake - you can choose how much grits you want with each bite. There was roasted tomatoes at the top which I loved - it made the dish the slightest bit sweet. The one thing I maybe would add to this is some spice. It wasn't spicy at all and I think it would be amazing with the littlest bit of red pepper flakes since the sauce is creamy, savory and a little sweet. My grandmother ordered the small plate of crab cakes. The were kind of flat like patties, but they tasted really good. Not really lump crab like I prefer but they tasted fresh and were served with complimenting sides and a really good remoulade type sauce. We got the pecan pie bites for dessert. You have to try these - very unique! You can get brownies or bread pudding anywhere - but these little guys were basically pecan pie wrapped in wontons and fried and served with vanilla ice cream. I ordered brisket and I couldn't cut through it. It was tough. Ivan, the manager came, and said it was ok. Then he asked me if I wanted him to take it. I said please. He took the plate, walked away and didn't come back. No apology or offer of an alternative. When I asked after several minutes what's up, he said I indicated I didn't want anything else which was a lie. My friend witnessed this. This used to be my favorite place in the area but not now. However, it wasn't that impressive for a Saturday night date night. First of all, it's located in the middle of RTP, which is dead on the weekends. There may have been 4 or 5 cars in the parking lot during prime dinner time. The food itself wasn't anything special, either. In fact, I might venture to say it was a bit disappointing. I had been advised to try the shrimp and corn hushpuppies, which come with pimento cheese dipping sauce. Sounds amazing! But I failed to find a single shrimp inside them. They tasted vaguely fishy, so maybe that was it...?For my main course I picked the grain salad which had barley, quinoa, cranberries (just call them craisins on the menu, people), arugula (hmm, maybe they forgot to put this in mine), kale (same as the missing arugula- there was nothing green in this salad!), pecans, cucumbers, parmesan (barely), and a cinnamon vinaigrette (yes, that's as weird as it sounds). Basically, a huge, beige pile of grains. I added shrimp to the top for an extra $6...they tasted vaguely fishy, too, so maybe they were cooked in the same pan as the hush puppies? I hate to bash them too much, because I definitely can see this place being more hopping and appealing at lunchtime, and the service was really lovely....but we won't be back because it's just not really our scene. read more

Overall the Page Road Grill is a reliable American style food choice. Every area of the restaurant is consistently 4/5 stars. Every time I have been here I have been able to get in and out in about an hour for lunch which is great. I have tried the salads and burger all of which were good, nothing amazing but a solid meal. I am from New England - Boston to be specific so I tend to be very judgemental and critical about chowder.lol I've had some very good ones. The Salmon Chowder is a Winner ! Finding options to eat in RTP that aren't far away can be difficult, so this is a nice gem that isn't fast food or divey. Bonus for me - there's a gluten free menu!! When I recently visited, I ordered a gluten free Roayle burger with pimento cheese and chips. The bun is quite good! The burger was juicy and very filling, though a bit messy to eat. Still, this totally fits the bill for me when I want a burger with a bun that's safe for me to eat. The chips are pretty good, kettle style chips. Nothing to write home about, but if you like kettle chips, there' a good option. The place gets PACKED for lunch. I'd recommend going early or late in the lunch time frame. When we arrived, a table for two was a 20 minute wait, so this may not be the place to go if you're in a rush. The first time I visited in Fall 2016, the service was great and it was at a less busy time. This time around, service was a bit slower and it felt like it took forever to get the check (we had to ask twice). Still, this is a very solid place for me when I travel to the area. Having to be gluten free makes eating out quite difficult at times and I really appreciate a place that can serve me food safely because there's nothing worse than being on a trip and getting sick! Their gluten free menu is larger than I've seen at other restaurants and they seem to know what they're doing when it comes to serving gluten free (celiac safe) food.
