    Blackened Catfish

The service was great, the waiter was very attentive and friendly. I ordered the catfish, while it was very saucy, everything lacked flavor. Also, almost a third of my potatoes were undercooked.

Gosh this was a stellar dining experience suitable for a special occasion or a date night or evening out with friends. Our service (Lynea) was helpful, explaining which meals suited our demands and what the terms were that we didn't understand. We started with a spinach bacon salad which had a great dressing and was the perfect way to begin our meal. I highly recommend the Shrimp Risotto; it was unbelievably creamy and flavorful with just a hint of heat. My husband ordered The Pork Shank. It doesn't look like much but wham, the taste is stunning!! Sweet (brown sugar?) and spicy and delicious. Complete with risotto and cooked spinach. It was followed by a small chocolate cake and ice cream. The perfect end to a perfect evening.

Great food for a decent price! We enjoyed the crab dip, the roasted chicken entree, and the risotto with shrimp. The crab dip had a crumb topping which was different but it was delicious, served with warm pita bread. The risotto was very flavorful and filling. The side options aren't listed but the server would read them out to you. The staff was friendly and helpful. She kept referring to us as "friends" which was pleasant. Full bar but not many mocktail options as they don't have a lot of syrups and garnishes. We ordered Shirley temples and with sprite and ginger ale but the cocktails and wine selection were decent. Very spacious and cozy interior. Plenty of parking lot space.

Good menu options and great service! We had my friend's surprise birthday dinner here and one of their private spaces. My friend's husband made the arrangements, but I arrived early to help decorate the space. The staff and manager were extremely helpful and friendly. They helped me bring in the decor and get everything set up. The location is nice and has a great vibe for an intimate dinner or a group dinner. The parking lot has plenty of parking in their private lot. The menu options are great! I ordered the Grain Salad with a Crab Cake and it was DELICIOUS!!! I wouldn't not have even imagined that putting all of the different flavors together would end up complimenting each other so well. I am allergic to pecans and there wasn't a single one on there once I asked for them to be withheld from the dish. Everyone in the group truly enjoyed their meal. I tasted some of the Brussels Sprouts that my other friend ordered and it was good. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in the area.

Sitting just S of 540 on Page Rd why this place isn't packed all the time dunno. Stopped in Monday night with a friend from out of town. Had the Pork Chop. Deleted the rice, added Asparagus. Photo here Buddy had the Brisket that was so tender they didn't even bother giving him a steak knife. Said it was amazing. Probably only thing holding back the Fifth Star would be the bartender (we sat at the bar) was scattered and has a nasty habit of taking orders while walking--looks back over his shoulder asking questions as he walks. Stand and look at me while I am ordering my $30 Pork Chop please. Right? All good

I was visiting my mother and she and mention some of her friends and her had enjoyed a lunch at Page Road Grill in the past, so I figured we would give it a try, especially since it was so hard to find a open dinner reservation on the Saturday night before Easter. As I walked in, I was surprised how empty the restaurant appeared. It seemed like they had one person both hosting and waiting tables, although we eventually realized there was a second server. But it was very clean and the atmosphere felt warm and relaxing thanks to art on the wall. I think my favorite part of this restaurant was the music; they had a great variety of country, mellow rock, and Americana folk music. The beer variety was pretty solid with some local brews, and I was allowed to have a sample of a local pale ale. But when a draft was brought to me, there was no head on it at all, which really hinders the flavor of the beer. If you work in that kind of a restaurant, I'm sorry, but you have to know how to pour a draft beer properly. Their menu is quite limited, they only have three appetizers and five salads to go with three deserts and a variety of entrees. Typically I don't mind that because it means they can focus on refining a few dishes and doing them well. For my meal, I had a bone in pork chop with a peach topping, roasted potatoes and creamed corn. It was a fine pork chop dish, cooked juicy and decently seasoned. I felt the potatoes needed a little something extra, such as fresh herbs. Mom had the shrimp and grits with bacon, vegetables and a mushroom cream sauce and she seemed to enjoy it. For a beer, two glasses of wine, and two entrees, our total came close to $95. No bread, no included salad or soup. I had an ok experience, but there are too many other restaurants worth trying in the area before I return here.

Everything tasted really nice. Went for a quick lunch and thankfully food came quick. Cuban is my favorite sandwich and it did not disappoint!

Can you find the Crispy Country Ham as opposed to bacon. (see menu).
    Gail C.

Three of us went here for lunch. We all got salads. The one I wanted was the Romaine (see photos). I was salivating as I pictured crisp romaine lettuce with cripsy country ham slices and chicken. Imagine my surprise when I found out I was getting bacon cumbs as opposed to the bacon listed on other menu items. The other not so fantastic part of the experience was our service. It wasn't great. BUT THE GOOD NEWS:The salads were delicious! The prices fair, and the drinks were excellent. All three of us will return. Perhaps I will smuggle in some real country ham to go with my salad.

I went here for a friend's birthday with a group. The restaurant has private parking and was pretty quiet. I was surprised it wasn't busier at the time we were there but at least the service was quick, perhaps as a result. The waiter for our table was attentive and professional. He made sure everyone had a glass of water and I liked that the businesses uses paper straws. Everyone ordered appetizers including hummus, crab dip, and salads. I personally had the grain salad. I liked it for the most part but I do believe it needed more cranberries to really set it off. As an entree, I had the ribeye steak. I liked it a lot. The waiter suggested getting the potatoes mashed instead of roasted and I stand by his suggestion. It also came with asparagus. Others in my party had the smoked brisket, the veggie burger, the pork chop, French fries, and the chicken. I let one person taste my steak in exchange for a taste of the brisket. She felt strongly that the steak was better than the brisket, which aligns with the waiter's comment that the steak is the best thing on the menu. Everyone enjoyed their food though. It was hot, tasty, and came out in reasonable time. The restaurant was also clean and relatively upscale. I would definitely come again if presented with the opportunity.

We remembered her from a previous visit, and will request her in the future. Cocktails and mocktails were excellent, as was the sparkling wine enjoyed by one of our party of six. We were surprised and delighted to see foie gras on the menu, and it was perfectly prepared, with an accompaniment of blackberry jam. The lamb belly entree was very rich, but cooked perfectly. The vegetarian plate was beautiful and delicious. Celeriac soup and beet salad were both terrific, and the barbecued shrimp were spiced perfectly. Our only letdown was dessert - only one of the 3 options appealed, so we ordered 3 of those (key lime semifreddo) and found them to be beautifully sweet/tart. We'll be back.

Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable and gave us a rundown of the menu before we ordered. I decided to start with the Cheese Plate, which included 3 different cheeses, buttered baguette slices, jam, mustard, and pickles. I enjoy cheese plates, and this one was great, but I can understand it may not be for everyone. My wife ordered the Red Fish, which had a more Southeast Asian-inspired twist to it. It came over rice and pickled onions and beets, and the flavors were a blend of lemongrass and coconut. The fish was cooked well - nice and tender, not too dry - and the flavors went well together. I ordered the New York Strip, which was delicious - the meat was well cooked, had great flavor, and was a generous portion that was very filling. The only gripe I had was that the char on the eggplant overwhelmed the flavor, so most of what I ate tasted like burnt eggplant. The place is clean and fairly laid back for a more upscale restaurant. If you're looking for a nicer restaurant in Chapel Hill where you might spend a little more, but you'll get great service with interesting food options / combinations, then look no further than Hawthorne & Wood.

She was welcoming, attentive, and handled everything smoothly, even as a few more parties came in while she was the only one serving at the time. One thing I really appreciated was that she let us know upfront what items were out of stock before we even looked at the menu. That level of transparency is huge and makes the experience so much better. My son ordered a slider with fries from the kids' menu. It comes with just one slider, so I ordered a second, definitely the right call. He enjoyed it, and the fries were cooked well, just a little on the salty side for our taste (ketchup helped balance that out). I had the shrimp tacos. It's packed and perfect portion for lunch. The shrimp, pineapple slaw, and chipotle mayo was a nice mix. The restaurant was clean (including the bathrooms). The location is also a plus, super close to the Art Museum, which makes it a great stop before or after visiting. Overall enjoyable, and I'd come back, especially to try more of the menu and the drinks.

As a vegetarian, there were admittedly pretty limited options, but I was aware of that going in and still wanted to try out this Durham institution. You get complimentary Focaccia (not once, but twice!), with perfectly crusty outside, bouncy inside, and a wonderful olive oil. If I had known this beforehand, probably would not have ordered the Dinner Rolls- nonetheless, they were delightful (pillowy soft and came with an airy butter). As an appetizer, we got the Little Gem Lettuce, which was a little too salty for my taste, and I felt the citrus accentuated the saltiness even more. However, my friends thought it was seasoned well so take this with a grain of salt lol. But I did enjoy the creaminess of the dressing and the crunch from the topping; also, it was pleasant to eat along with some bread. For my entrée, I got the Spaghettini. This was my first time trying shaved black truffle and I was underwhelmed, but I loved the pasta itself, which had a really unique bite to it and was rich but not heavy. The pasta dishes are on the smaller side with regards to portion. Last but definitely not least: the Hot Chocolate Soufflé. Oh my gosh. When I say this was heavenly, I could literally hear angels singing as I took my first bite. The hot fudge was velvety but not overwhelming, the soufflé soft, and perfectly balanced by the cool bourbon-caramel ice cream. This is assembled table side so you get a fun little show as well haha. We were taken on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster because apparently they were having trouble with the oven, but so grateful that could be fixed. Service was amazing (shout out to Beza!), very friendly and appropriate timing. Ambiance is superb, literally the epitome of modern elegance and probably the best in Durham for a fancy night out. Highly recommend getting a reservation. I could see parking being tricky on busy weekends, but I was able to snag a spot in front of the restaurant. Overall, I had a good experience with some minor room for improvement with dish execution but definitely would appreciate more vegetarian and vegan-friendly options (although, I suppose I didn't ask if modifications to dishes was possible). 9/10 would recommend!

After enjoying the sausage in the Queso Skillet, I ordered the Nonna Tavern Pizza with Italian sausage, caramelized onions, banana peppers, and basil marinara. Whatever blend of cheeses was used, the pizza was delicious. I also had a side house salad with apple vinaigrette, which was very tasty. Vickie ordered the grilled salmon and said it was quite good. The service was very good, and the space has a modern industrial tavern feel with upscale farmhouse and brewery-inspired design elements. It feels casual and comfortable while being more polished than a typical sports bar. One feature that sets The Goat apart is its coffee-and-breakfast concept. The coffee, breakfast, and work area is separated from the main restaurant and resembles the kind of modern, uncluttered coffeehouse you might find in a contemporary hotel or airport lounge. I am sure that I will not be disappointed, however, I have been told to get to brunch before noon, as it gets very busy, also a good thing. Cheers. :)

We went to It's a Southern Thing on a Sunday morning around 9:30 and walked right in--no wait,…read morewhich honestly felt like a small miracle for brunch. Even better surprise: the patio was wide open and dog-friendly. Immediate bonus points. Service was great. She was friendly, attentive, and helpful with recommendations without being overbearing. I had the Shrimp & Grits, which came with plenty of large shrimp and really rich, flavorful grits. Definitely a solid choice. My date ordered the Blackstone Benedict -a sort of ham, poached eggs, and hollandaise, with breakfast potatoes and gluten-free bread. She was genuinely thrilled with it, which is saying something as she is a hollondaise stickler. By the time we were leaving, a line had started to build, so if you're planning a weekend brunch here, I'd recommend getting there on the earlier side. Parking is easy (big lot), and there's a grocery store right next door, which is surprisingly convenient. Overall, just a really easy, enjoyable brunch spot with good food, great service, and a relaxed vibe. We'll be back.
