We tried the golden fish tacos, fish and chips, and crème brûlée from this food truck during our…read moretrip to Oahu and everything was delicious. The fish was perfectly crispy with fresh slaw and really creamy sauces. The tortillas for the tacos tasted very fresh too, which made them even better. Both entrées came with lemon wedges that added a nice bright touch. The fish and chips were great and the fries were perfectly crisp. I still think about the crème brûlée. The texture and caramelized top were spot on. Portions were generous as well. We were staying at a nearby resort so it was an easy walk for us. The service was good, although we came when there was not much of a line. The truck is located in a lot with several other food trucks so it is easy to find. I cannot speak to parking since we walked. There are a couple of benches in front where you can sit and enjoy your food, and the truck sits under a huge tree which gives some nice shade from the heat. Overall, I would highly recommend stopping by if you are looking for great vegan food.

The good news is it is fast so if you wait a little bit, someone is likely to finish up and leave. The ambience is definitely casual since it is a truck. There is covered picnic-table style seating for this truck and the other trucks nearby. The food is SO good. I read rave reviews on here for the fish tacos so I orderes them and they did not disappoint. The vegan sour cream is so creamy, thr coleslaw is perfectly tangy and crunchy, and the vegan fish is delightful. My husband got the chicken tacos which were hot, in contrast to the fish tacos. They had avocado and a green sauce and we also liked these though the fish were our favorite. The hibiscus lemonade was lovely and refreshing also. The service here is very fast. We basically ordered and then looked around at the other truck menus and by that time our food was ready! I would definitely recommend this place especially for vegetarians and vegans and would love to come back!

Literally the best shrimp I ever had. Absolutely delicious!!…read more I don't say that lightly either. It was otherworldly!! The staff was great too!!!! I'll be back!

Giovanni's is one of those places where memory does a remarkable amount of the seasoning. I've been…read moreeating here across decades. Enough visits that this is no longer about catching them on a bad afternoon, ordering the wrong thing or failing to understand what the place is supposed to be. I've tried the different shrimp, stood in the lines, eaten at the tables, navigated the parking, brought people here and returned because, for a very long time, Giovanni's was simply one of those places you went when you were on this side of the island. At some point, repetition becomes evidence. The truck itself has become an artifact. Covered in signatures, battered by time, photographed millions of times. There was probably a period when all of that felt charming. Now it mostly feels tired. There is a difference between patina and neglect and the surrounding experience has increasingly crossed that line for me. Flies, crowded tables, overflowing activity, rough parking, heat, trash nearby. You can romanticize rustic only so far before rustic starts asking for a pressure washer. Then there is the service, which has consistently been the hardest part for me to understand. I don't need anyone performing hospitality like they're auditioning for a resort commercial, but basic warmth costs nothing. Too often the interaction here feels impatient and transactional, as though the customer is somehow inconveniencing the operation by showing up to buy the food. After enough visits, you stop calling that an off day. And then there is the plate. The shrimp itself is actually the least offensive part. It is generally cooked reasonably well. Tender enough, rarely destroyed and when you get a good batch you can understand why this formula became so popular. Everything around it drags it down. The rice has repeatedly been soft, clumped and bordering on mushy. I am annoyingly particular about rice, but rice is not some decorative substance placed beneath the main event. It matters. When half the plate is rice, screwing it up is not a minor detail. The garlic is abundant, certainly, but abundance and care are different things. It often arrives more like a wet mass of processed garlic than the fragrance and texture you get from properly chopped fresh cloves. Add the butter and oil and you certainly get intensity, but after several bites the whole thing becomes heavy rather than interesting. The little salad on the side generally feels like an afterthought that has been waiting for someone to remember it. And that is ultimately my problem with Giovanni's. The entire experience feels as though its reputation arrived at the destination years before the restaurant did and everyone decided there was no longer much reason to keep improving. People will continue coming. Of course they will. The name is famous, the truck is recognizable, the photographs are practically mandatory and nostalgia is one hell of a business model. I understand it because it worked on me for years. But strip away the mythology and ask a brutally simple question: If this exact plate came from an unknown truck with no history, no signatures and no reputation, would you still wait in line for it? I wouldn't. Two stars. The shrimp can still be decent and I have too many memories here to pretend the place means nothing to me. But nostalgia should bring you back to a restaurant. It shouldn't be responsible for making the food taste better. I kept returning because tradition can turn habit into taste. I'm done confusing the two.

My sons got the rainbow and melona flavors for the shave ice. The shrimp was flavorful and crunchy likely because they deep fried the shrimp. The shell was crisp and you could easily eat the shrimp with the shells on. My wife and I love the Mac salad and thought it was one of the best of the many places that we tried during this trip. Our only mistake here was not getting the garlic shrimp, something for us to try next time. They were very laid back and even gave us a couple of free drinks.

Unfortunately I should have had more patience. First off my friend tried to ask for the garlic butter ahi plate and the cashier said the ahi would take 30 minutes, but then the person in the kitchen corrected them and said it would actually take only 15 minutes because it would be fresh. So he tried to go down the line and pick something else from the specials but they were all ahi. And unfortunately he's allergic to shrimp so he couldn't choose the shrimp plates but honestly it's probably for the better. The garlic shrimp was mid. And even worst the rice was soggy almost as if I made it (and I don't make good rice). Also the salad was discolored and lacked freshness. The shrimps were also tiny af. Luckily, for my friend, however his plate ended up only taking about 10 minutes, which is good. But he wasn't too pleased with his meal either. Both our rices tasted almost spoiled in a way, my friend said it felt and tasted like it wasn't fresh as if it was made yesterday. And I was needing a napkin, my friend went to get me one, and came back saying how they emphasize to just "take one" napkin. Which I can understand to a certain point, but he got the impression she really didn't want him to take more than just one. Which is pretty silly cause when you're eating garlic shrimp it gets really messy. The only good thing about this place is that it has a beautiful view of the water and they were playing the Beatles and we're in Hawaii. But if I were you, I'd totally pass this tourist trap, and head elsewhere. This place claims to have the best fish plates but they lack TLC and quality food. Honestly probably the worst meal I've had of the year. I was ready to finish my meal. My friend and I both agreed this place lacked a bit of aloha.

It's a little hidden gem located just before you turn into the Kahuku food truck pod. Go slow because you'll miss it. Look for the sign and the gravel lot on the right as you head towards the food trucks. Parking a little tricky but you can either find parking in the gravel lot or park in the main one and walk over. Hidden in the corner behind ferns and plants you'll find a little stand manned by very sweet people. "Uncle" takes your order and "auntie" whips up the funnel cake. Please be patient because they are made fresh to order. We got the fully loaded ($13). Recommend getting this one! Comes hot topped with ice cream, fresh banana slices, chocolate and strawberry syrup and whipped cream and powdered sugar. Whoa! It's pretty big so get ito share. If you can't decide there's another option where you can get 3 smaller ones with different toppings like cinnamon. But no mess around - just get the Fully Loaded. The funnel cake wasn't soaked in grease but nice and light with a perfect crunch. We sat at one of the 2 red picnic tables and devoured it in less than 10 minutes . The sign didn't lie- it WAS the best funnel cake in Hawaii!
