came here this past sunday for a little working session with a friend. it was the perfect spot to do some sketching and watercoloring! i got an iced matcha latte, which was alright, definitely on the milkier side. i also got a breakfast burrito from the little stall set up outside, and it was phenomenal!!! one of the best breakfast burritos i've had. the space was cozy, with lots of areas to sit, and also so many cool books and things to read. i definitely will be coming back, and hopefully the other little store(s) inside will be open next time! all the staff i interacted with were the nicest, and i felt so welcome here. read more

I've been to this bookstore twice and love this place. I'm not up in this area too often, but when I am and have a free moment, I like to pop in to see what interesting books they have. I had a nice chat with one of the guys working here, and he told me his partner owns the place. This bookstore has been around for 9 years, and I love seeing a place that carries books in the Spanish language and also books by indigenous, Asian, Latino/Chicano, African American, and LGBTQ+ authors. They also sell items from different artists and I managed to pick up a nice hummingbird bowl made in Mexico and a few other handmade items all from Mexico. This is a unique bookstore that also holds events here. I also saw a station to write postcards to call for a ceasefire. I'll definitely be back here again and definitely come support local! It's a little slice of heaven in here for book lovers. A book worm could hide here forever. read more

My bestie invited me to a reading by the fierce author of Badass Bonita, and let me tell you, I struck gold in our gorgeous ciudad! Palabras feels like stepping into the wardrobe in Narnia. The unassuming building on Roosevelt spills out into multiple rooms featuring a coffee shop, books in English and Spanish, and plenty of spaces to post up with your laptop! The coffee prices seem fair and they've also got a rewards program that can offer money off your purchase after $100 I believe. There is a spot in the back with four comfortable chairs in a well lit room. There is also a bigger space with tables for getting some work done. Street parking and a small parking lot outside provide plenty of options. The book selection is great and the store also sells plenty of fun little things like candles and stickers! Not to mention, the people here are really friendly. read more

What a charming little indie bookshop! How have I never stopped in here before? Great selection of books that span genres. Coffee and tea selections to delight. Puzzles, card decks and other delights for the biblio-soul. There is a whole room of Spanish language books and materials as well. On Sunday a.m.s I'm told we can stop by to purchase homemade breakfast burritos that include our vegan and veggie pals. Let's continue to support our local and independent shops! read more

Their events have food/drink trucks of small business in the Valley, and they are always amazing! The bookstore has sections that focus LGBTQIA+, Black, Indigenous, and so many more authors and genres. Honestly, I would live here curled in a book nook! Last time I've been here was 2019 but they recently relocated the beginning of 2021. Such an amazing place with many interesting finds. Many books with various genres in both English and Spanish. They have lots of little treats too such as stickers, pins, games to buy! Lots to find for either yourself or gift for others. Definitely coming back soon for more! read more

If you are looking for q bilingual edition of a book, don' trust Palabras to know what they are doing. I ordered a bilingual edition of Balzac's Cousin Bette, they took two weeks to fill my order, and the edition I received was not bilingual. read more

I come here to get lost in this beautiful bookstore. The smell of old books and new puts a smile on my face. I went in today to pickup a copy of How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents. Left with that book and 8 other books. I found City of Beasts by Isabel Allende, and The Valkyries by Paulo Coelho and some other great finds. I can never leave here without a stack of books. A charming used bookstore in downtown Phoenix. Walking in, I immediately fell in love with the vibe and atmosphere. There is an excellent selection of used books. The staff was friendly and helpful. I was in search of a good novel by S E Hinton. I asked the manager for help, was so sweet and full of stories from his past career. It was so lovely to connect with him and learn a little bit about him and the book store. I found a good novel and wa as very pleased with the friendly. My favorite was the scifi section; there was just something magical about the room. Filled with tons of old books, it took me right back to my childhood. If you haven't been, I highly recommend stopping by and supporting this gem in Phoenix. read more

Palabras is a chillax hole-in-the wall with extra nice coffee and customer service. It's a cozy space to meet and chat and take bookbinding classes or just lounge, etc. There's a good selection of books, both in English and Spanish, and the parking is in the back. Just look for the Aqua building nextdoor. There's room for powerchairs/wheelchairs, though the front entrance is tight. read more

A hidden gem in Phoenix carrying an array of awesome books, many of which I have only seen online. The staff is very nice and helpful. They also serve Quetzal co-op coffee and sell 16 oz bags of beans from the awesome coffee Co-op, which is an indigenous peoples project. I highly recommend visiting this unique book store. They sell new and used books. read more

Most bookstores offer a small Spanish-language section, but the inventory is not always well curated--so when I first learned about Palabras, I put it at the top of my list for my next visit to Phoenix. My Spanish is not great, but to maintain the proficiency I do have, I like to find graphic novels and other books in Spanish that are written at a fairly easy reading level. Since conventional bookstores don't always have what I want, travel in Mexico (and elsewhere in the Hispanophone world) has often been my fall-back for picking up the reading material I want. (I'm lucky to live about an hour from the border!) At Palabras, though, there's plenty to find. Besides being a great source for reading material, its walls serve as gallery space for some beautiful art, and there's a community room in back for various events. It's a great little space, and it's easily one of my favorite bookstores anywhere. read more

This store is great. I'm trying to learn Spanish and they had absolutely everything I needed. The employee was super friendly and helpful and really knows his books! I had to make an appointment due to Covid and I really appreciated the safety steps in place. You will have no worries coming to this store. read more
