I would like to start out by saying that I am extremely impressed by the quality of work provided by Palapa Depot. CJ, who is the owner returned every single email and phone calls promptly and professionally. I had three great installers who were Saul, Chema, and Oscar. These three employees worked so hard and did a great job with the re-thatching of four large palapas. At the end of the day they cleaned the site and left no evidence of the material on the ground. Love our palapa roof!! Great job! The sunken BBQ space where our palapa roof is built is a difficult space and oddly shaped, so the owner was very creative, thoughtful, and artistic in his design. We had three palapa tops replaced last year by Palapa Depot, one of which is over the sunken BBQ pit and overhangs the sunken bar stools in the pool, another actually in the wet deck area of the pool. While they look good I continue to have a major problem with the small staples they used coming out, getting in the pool and causing rust spots. If our pool was a typical white plaster pool it would be ruined. Our is black pebble tech and the staples are difficult to see until it turns into a spot of rust and it happens quickly. I did buy a large rolling magnet usually used to clean up nails from construction sites and initially and over the next few weeks picked up in excess of 75 staples. While some were from the removal of the old top many were new and very small staples that would typically be used to temporarily put up a sign or paper target on cardboard like you would use on a target range. Very small staples that I can not believe were used to hold down the new thatch. It makes no sense to me why such small staples were used... NONE. They continue to shed and get in the pool. So many rust spots now that are next to impossible to remove we have basically given up and will deal with next year with an acid wash when it is drained and refilled again. Four stars for the appearance, One star for the use of the little staples used on the thatch. Can not recommend them for any installation adjacent to a pool, due to the use of such small staples, along with the number of them left in the pool after the original tops were replaced. We had a very minor issue with loose staples on the original install, and no small staples were used. read more

I set up a appt with Palapa depot 2 weeks ago by phone as well as sent pics of what I need done to include rethatch and minor repair. I was told by Vicky the customer service rep it would be no problem, set up a appt for March 13th between 8:00 -8:30 am. She also sent my quote. Which I approved . Today was the appt, it was a no show until 1:15 pm with no call or anything saying whey would BE late. The guys got hear finally at 1:15 and apologized several time blaming it on there boss as she switched the time to the wrong address. I showed them to my palapa and they said they would get to work and finished it today. Then they said they had to go get a 3rd guy so they could get it done faster. I said ok . I showed them how to get back in cause I had to go to my delayed appointments. Never heard from him again. I get home excited to see my palapa and they never even came back over to complete the job. Never got a call either. I called them back and vickey states oh I was waiting for your call , then proceeded to tell me that's the guys couldn't do the job. WOW WHAT A FLAKEY COMPANY . WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. ON TOP OF IT ALL SHE's HORRIBLE AT HER CUSTOMER SKILLS. . Couldn't ever give me a straight answer without biting her tongue, she new she was so wrong. When we bought our home the existing palapa had thatch that we could see through and the poles were split. We had other companies come and give us quotes but they all told us they had to tear down the existing structure and rebuild which would be about $5,000.00. We called CJ at Palapa Depot and he said he could work with the existing structure. He replaced the thatch and wrapped the poles in plastic and then tightly woven rope from top to bottom. Our palapa sat in the middles of our lawn and was watered often due to the sprinklers which is what split the poles. CJ suggested moving the sprinklers and putting either pavers or other landscaping with low flow irrigation to preserve the newly wrapped poles. This made such a difference and the palapa looks great. We really like the look of the wrapped poles and paid one fifth the price. CJ is very personable, showed up on time and completed the project when he said he would.
