Diamond - 5 Stars Jacob - 1 Star…read more After an extra long visit to SC, a friend suggested we hang out before I head back to NYC. We ended up stopping at The Grand around 9/9:30pm on a Saturday. Upon entering the hostess informed us they were currently only serving the late night menu. We said no problem and elected to grab seats at the bar. There were several empty tables and a few empty seats @ the bar. However, the only two seats together at the bar needed to be cleared from the last patrons that were seated. We stood there for over 20 mins while Jacob continued to walk by never acknowledging us or the fact that we couldn't sit. When he finally cleared the dishes he just walked away, never cleaning the area. When he returned he still never greeted us or apologized for the wait, the mess... nothing. Jacob: What are you having? Me: Well hello... Jacob: Yea... what do you want? Me: Wow... ok. For starters can you please whip off the bar so we can properly have a seat. There is still food residue here from the last customers. ** we get a visible huff** He wipes down the bar and we proceed to order drinks, while he never really speak any more it's all via motions and body language. Amongst ourselves we check in with one another to confirm that we both were feeling very unwelcome. Instantly we decide that we will not be ordering anything additional and will be leaving after this one drink. Which is just as well because Jacob never returns. Someone , whom I can only assume was of a mangement status, asked if Jacob was helpful and we promptly and simultaneously said no and that we would like or bill. She shook her head in utter disbelief and disgust but then she also disappeared. Just so happened that Diamond, whom was on the other side of the bar happen to walk pass. She stopped and asked if we were ok after witnessing our frustration. We explained that we wanted the check and why we were leaving. She was super apologetic and closed out our tab. Her energy literal turned the experience around and if she would have came to our rescue sooner we would have considered staying. Thank you Diamond. Just A Note: Unfortunately, bad first impression because The Grand seems like it may offer a good time with the bowling lanes in the back.

Instead, you found a family friendly, casual atmosphere with phenomenal food. The cut their own beef, they pick the best ingredients. The owner was working tonight and just running a tight ship. You can always tell when a business is a team, when the employees are happy. And that natural trickle down feeds the consumer. So, I was dining solo and sat at the bar. I had a lovely chat with a man next to me. Jen was my server/bartender and on top of everything! Lovely young woman for sure. And Jeff took the time to talk to us about how they are different. I really appreciated that his restaurant is approachable. I'm not even sure if that's the right word- it is fine dining food, without the financial or social glam required at other establishments. I mean- family friendly is literal. He has built a business to cater to everyone, anyone. Food- I was so impressed by everything. I ordered the filet and my sides were mac-n-cheese and mushrooms. OH MYYYYYY- Steak cooked medium rare and perfect juicy, flavorful. The mushrooms simply stunned me- I had to ask why there was a sweet taste... teriyaki sauce! I knew I tasted something sweet- it made them so extra and I already love mushrooms. The mac- it looked dry on top, it was just the baked cheese layer, under was the perfect gooey, creamy cheese your soul craves. OH- and btw, the sides were huge! I felt like I could have shared with several people. Wow wow. So much food. Reasonable prices. I had a Filet dinner, 2 amazing sides and a cocktail- $50. For that caliber of food, that is very reasonable. Tomorrow is prime rib night and I sooooooooo want to go back again! Thank you for a fabulous night- I was celebrating and your business made my day even better!

Caesar salad was fresh and crisp, filet was prepared perfectly, the sautéed mushrooms and loaded mashed are incredible! We will be going back again. VERY MUCH WORTH THE VISIT!

The French toast was sweet and cooked perfectly, the creamy corn casserole and creamed spinach were rich and delicious, and the fried calamari with chili sauce was absolutely amazing! The service was top-notch, the atmosphere was elegant, and every bite felt worth it. Definitely one of Columbia's best spots for a special night out! Highly recommend!

The restaurant location is across from the State House, so I'd anticipate that they get quite a diverse cross section of visitors at the restaurant. I could tell from the moment we arrived that the hostesses were professional and got us to a table that was comfortable and had a view of the dining room. We had originally intended to sit outside where the view is more interesting, but on this day the heat was just too much. Our server, Megan approached quickly and went over a presentation of meat types and preparation styles, and quickly got us some drinks. She was efficient and professional throughout the meal. I had a wonderful fillet with some sauteed spinach, and it was all quite tasty. With a price averaging about $90 per person all in, including soft drinks, tip and tax, it's a higher end restaurant for the area, but certainly a reasonable value overall. For those visiting from out of town as we were, you should definitely take the time to either walk across Gervais Street to visit the State House, or head in the opposite direction along main Street and visit the downtown area. Halls is a wonderful centerpiece and represents Columbia well. At the end of the meal, they asked for my address, at which point I sarcastically said to my wife quote what are they going to do, mail me a thank you card?" Well, they did mail me a thank you card, a very nice touch, and appreciated. A truly first class move.

We started with the deviled eggs which seemed like they didn't even try to add flavor. Only one person in the group ordered steak which was not cooked to the order, and was completely unevenly prepared. Two people in the group ordered the burger which were ordered as medium and came overly well done. The prices are the only high end items on the menu. I have no problem paying for a decent meal, however the Chophouse of Chapin needs to address the food quality. I would advise to go elsewhere for your dinner plans.

Not sure about the music selection, as we dove right into scanning the menu and enjoying the options. We had the Japanese fried chicken (3.5/6) and the Prosciutto Wrapped Fontina (6/6) would definitely order again as it was delicious. We selected the butchers board (6/6) with asparagus & bacon mac and cheese for our sides - medium rare of course. The spread was delicious. We had a mule and a blueberry spritz to accompany the meal. As the sun set, the locations lights seemed to dim as well, ramping up the intimate feel. Server checked in multiple times (her name is Victoria Batte). Ordered crème brûlée for dessert and left stuffed.
