Wanted to have lunch as we have tried this place once before. Oh my so disappointed we could not even get in - NOT because they were full but because they added valet parking. When we drove up asking for handicap parking was told they did not have any but they would valet. Since we had some items in car, I asked if I could just park in the many empty spots close to the door. Valet stated NO. I have no problem with valet parking, but not going to work due to items in car. I mentioned okay we will find another restaurant, the reply was you can park down the block on the street or give me your car. We went less than a block over to Chuy's with no problem parking and enjoying a great meal. So low points on the aspect we could not even get in for lunch. read more

Husband and I went there for dinner last Friday and it was honestly amazing. Never had a better red snapper. The sauce and sides were on point! It was a huge portion. The cucumber lemonade was fire, had to order a second one! We decided to sit outside and the service was excellent. He checked on us every so often, offered to heat it up, if we're cold and did in general a very good job. The food came out also pretty quickly. This place is awesome for some good Mariscos. Try the "agua chile" or the "ceviche" it's fresh, delicious, and one of the only places in Dallas that's authentic. If you don't speak Spanish don't be shy they do speak English in there. However, it's ran by Hispanic people and so you will get a lot of Spanish speakers there. The food is amazing. Very good seafood. I went on a Friday and they had mariachis playing. It's a small bar so make sure you get there on a time where not a lot of people are there. They usually play Mexico soccer so if you are a fan I recommend it. Overall if you want good ceviche, good service, and good seafood this is the place. I'm telling you go try their ceviche. This resturant was the best. I live in FL where we get fresh seafood daily and have never had the experience or food that I had at Palapas. Decided to check this place out for a nice happy hour meal with my wife and thought I have stumbled on to new spot I could come to regularly . A charge for not paying cash, not the first one I've seen, but still not a fan of it. But the one that really left a bad taste in our mouth was the included 20% gratuity! WTF! An auto included 20% gratuity for 2 people. Not only did they hit us with this but I came to find out that the table next to us wasn't charged this gratuity at all, they were able to tip as they saw fit. I even took photos to prove it. My fiance and I were hungry on a Friday evening and I decided to take him here, since I haven't visited this low key spot in over a year. I remember it being authentic, a bit grungy, yet delicious... I was mistaken. My excitement really went out the window as I took my first slurp of a watered down blue point oyster. No where near as satisfying as I remembered it to be. Then, I had high hopes for the cocktail de camaron (shrimp). Again, watered down. My fiance ordered the chicken enchiladas. Nothing special about them. Not much flavor in anything except the nice and juicy limes. We could have drank the rest of my cocktail, since we never received a water refill. We paid around $40 and I ended up with a painful stomach ache driving home. Although, we did experience nostalgia watching Battle Bots on the flat screen, we never plan on going back. I have been wanting to try this place for a while as it is in my neighborhood, but I always forget about it. I finally tried it and I'm so glad I did! It's definitely a hole in the wall but with quality food. Our server seemed to have very limited English, but thankfully I can easily point at menu items. The seafood is all fresh and I would actually recommend sticking with a seafood dish vs something else. My friend had some either beef or brisket tacos that were just ok. I split a shrimp quesadilla and it was great. My other friend ordered ceviche and that was probably my favorite thing at the table! This place transported me to Mexico and I loved it. Well, it's either I went on a bad day or I'm a ceviche snob. Their mahi mahi ceviche was very disappointing. The fish was way too fishy and bland. Normally, I would never bother taking more than a bite when it comes to fishy/not fresh fish, but I tried to this time. I asked the server for extra lime with salt and pepper to mask the fishiness as much as possible. It helps a little, but not good enough. I also had their michilada, which was pretty good. I liked it. This is a cute place, and maybe other stuff on the menu is better and I just ordered the wrong thing. Don't be disappointed by my 2 stars. Come try it for yourself. Despite all the rave reviews about the ceviche, my friend & I listened to a personal friend of ours who had been here and has been proven to be a foodie. This friend actually advised us NOT to get the ceviche at all! We still wanted an appetizer so we decided to be adventurous and try a "Cockteles" which is basically a cocktail. They have 3 options available and we chose the one that came with EVERYTHING! Shrimp, octopus, AND oysters. Why o why are people talking about the ceviche? They should be talking about the combo seafood cocktails! It was most likely THE BEST cocktail I've ever had. All the ingredients are so fresh and they do not hold back on hooking you up! Every spoonful I bit into had an abundance of seafood along with thick cuts of avocado. Omg so good. We ordered the Parrillada for 2 and omg - SO MUCH FOOD! We could not handle it all. I love the addition of the cactus. Don't be scared! Try it! Tastes just like another veggie. I am docking this place for service. There was another Spanish speaking couple next to us who the entire waitstaff paid more than enough attention to and neglected everyone else. We were looking for micheladas and this place delivered. Friends ended up getting micheladas with shrimp and they all loved how fresh both the shrimp and cucumbers were. I ended up with the el mero mero which was strong enough but not to the point where the mezcal overwhelmed the fresh cucumber taste. Hidden in Dallas, this is a small Mexican seafood restaurant. Dishes are typical seafood from the Pacific of Mexico, I liked the seafood soup that I ordered, broth was delicious and most of the multiple ingredients in the soup like crab, oyster and shrimp were very tasty. The fish in the soup was not what I expected in texture and flavor but it was good overall. I also had an off the menu item which is preapared oysters in the shell with pico, cucumber, tomato and onion. The taste was ok, I guess this is one you have to try to like it. Finally I had a michelada with Mexican beer, this was really good and refreshing. I can not believe how amazing this food is! I had a Mangonada, oysters by the dozen and their plate of Filet Empanizado/Fried Fish. The environment was very welcoming and relaxing. So, for those reasons they got three stars. The service sucked. I don't know if the chica simply didn't like us or what. We ordered appetizers, calamari and their queso dip, she bring guacamole and queso. She brings the drinks twenty minutes into sitting. It was water and soda people. They would've had five stars and a lifetime customer, but for the poor service. Plus side is we got a dinner show. A couple near us had an argument about quality time, and he kept straw manning her statements. She was pleading her case, but he was definitely a jerk. I hope her friends and family have her back. Turns out, this was the patio area of Palps. Inside you'll find a coastal feel similar to what you would find in Cancun. The restaurant seems to have expanded over time as well. There's an outdoor patio, a climate controlled area that looks like it used to be the outdoor patio, and then more traditional seating within. 1/2 Star. Service - Everything was good. They were not too busy so our server was always available. He made several recommendations and did a great job explaining dishes we had questions about. While he did forget to put in one of our orders, a reminder remedied it quickly. No issues, great service here. 1 Star. Food - The menu reminds of Seafood Shack. There are plenty of fresh seafood dishes. I definitely felt these were true Mexican\Latin Seafood dishes. The white fish ceviche came had huge chunks of fish throughout, perfectly cooked in the lime juice. We ate it with saltines because the restaurant tortilla chips weren't strong enough to hold the fish. Their shrimp cocktail was solid. If you've ordered this at Big\Aw Shucks or Seafood Shack expect the same. I went with the crab enchiladas for my primary dish. Unfortunately I won't order this again - tons of crab but it didn't taste as fresh as I would have liked. I had to dip it in the red sauce. But, Palapas was able to redeem itself with dessert. Here you can order a hot, caramel filled churro served with vanilla bean ice cream. We ordered a second one after the first was assaulted by our party. Great beginning/end - so-so middle. 1 1/2 Stars. Will I Return? - Only for the churro. I liked Palapas a lot, I just think there many similar options in Dallas that I would consider before coming back. It's important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars - Food - I'll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Cute and charming little place with a full bar. It has that Baha feel to it. My favorite thing about this place is that they have fresh fish. Sadly they hadn't gotten the Salmon delivery the day we went in. I opted for Mahi Mahi A La Diabla (four chile's red sauce). The fish was a bit over cooked and the sauce was overwhelming. The dish also included borracho beans and rice. At $15 for the plate I was unimpressed. The red sauce had good flavor, but, it drowned out the fish. I ended up scraping the sauce off so I could have more fish flavor. They should really tone it down with the sauce. Less is definitely more with this dish. The beans and rice were average. They brought nothing to this dish. In fact, I didn't even finish them. We also got the fried shrimp. That was spot on. Good shrimp done right. The Mexican fries were quite tasty. Not sure what was Mexican about them though. The chips and salsa, again, were spot on. Fresh crispy chips, and, some salsa with both flavor and kick.
