I'd been to this place YEARS ago and I liked it then just never went back. I decide to give it a try again. Do not recommend. Walking in and waiting to be seated was not the best. I guess the hostess was at lunch and coming back, maybe wasn't on the clock yet? That's understandable, but if that's the case, maybe acknowledge I'm standing there and ask if I've been helped and tell me someone will come to assist. Some other lady came up after I'd been standing there at least 5mins to seat me. No one else was waiting. Place was pretty empty. Inside, there were plenty of open tables. It was clean. Waiter was good, right amount of attention was paid. I had the carnitas plate. I guess I was expecting something better. Flavor was fine. Meat had a lot of fat in it. The service was very attentive and thoughtful, the kids described the cheese in the enchilada/ taco as "better-gooey-cheese" with smiles. Still an ok place but not what it used to be. Their brunch buffet used to be so much better. It lacks so much now and items were replaced with fried garbage. Still a decent price. RUN if you get the server Chris. So, my mom and I went for happy hour last Thursday, and it was super crowded, but we did get a table pretty quickly. Chris was our server, and it took him about five minutes to even realize we were his table. (Not a big deal) Once he took our drink order, we barely saw him. When we asked for more salsa and waters, he just said, 'Can you give me a minute,' with his hand saying hold and that was it. We finished our drinks waiting for anything else. My mom finally had to walk up to him ringing in drinks to get his attention, and even place another drink order. (Keep in mind still no waters and salsa 25 min in) When our drinks finally arrive I simply ask for my tajin rim and he got defensive, saying, 'Well, she didn't tell me that,' looking at my mom like it was her fault. I told him first of all not to speak to my mom that way, and secondly my first martini had a rim so either he forgot or didn't ring it in right. That's when he just lost it, until the manager stepped in and that's when we asked for a new server. Well well well once we got a new server, it got weirder... Chris was then whispering to our new server and making faces at us across the restaurant, laughing to himself. Our new server even asked us, 'Was he being petty?' And honestly, he was. After that, we told them we were ready to go. We left. No food, nothing, because we were done with his weirdo trash attitude. This was a terrible experience, and I definitely won't be back. Giving 2 stars because we understand this may not be the restaurant's fault as a whole, but both the manager and another employee witnessed the way Chris spoke to us and treated us. That kind of behavior shouldn't be acceptable, and he should be held properly accountable. read more

I've been to Ajuua Mexican Grill several times, but this is my first review. On this visit, we ordered the Enchiladas de Ajuua with seasoned ground beef, served with Mexican rice and refried beans. The enchiladas were solid Tex-Mex--well-seasoned beef with a zesty sauce that really hit the spot. The rice and beans were tasty, well cooked, and reminded me of good homemade comfort food. We also tried the Ajuua Famous Fish Tacos. The tortillas were soft and pliable, holding the well-seasoned fish and fresh produce nicely. The chipotle crema was excellent and added a lot of flavor. The black beans were also well seasoned and cooked just right, which I really enjoyed. It's no surprise that I recommend Ajuua Mexican Grill. I've been here multiple times and usually make a stop whenever I'm in the area. read more

Great patio and service! Nice establishment with very tasty salsa, freshly roasted, and crispy chips to dip. Drink specials every day as well as tasty food. Sundays, they offer brunch and mimosa flights $8. Margaritas are tasty, nice liquor choices at the bar. They also have a party room that seats 30 people. Friendly staff. Seeing how my first review was back in January of 2015, it's time for a long overdue update! Ajuua still holds a dear place to me and my friends, and I often find myself here on Sundays whenever I'm back in San Antonio visiting. This place has been home to many friend catch-ups, celebrations of life, hangover brunch buffets, and just because moments. Their brunch buffet is one of the best and seriously you can't beat the price even with inflation of 2023/2024 prices. This buffet features pozole, enchiladas, crispy bacon, sausage, pancakes, soups, barbacoa, guisada, and so many more options. All you can eat and you can make as many trips as you want! Their margaritas are so good and they always hit the spot. Some of the best authentic Mexican food that reminds me of bordertown cuisine tbh. Never had a bad waiter or service moment and everyone just has a pip to their step. Drinks may be a little slow (very seldom) but you're so occupied with the food you won't even notice! We had our work Christmas party here on the patio. It was a pleasant evening and the food was delicious. The waitresses were wonderful and quick to refill drinks and bring anything we needed. I had requested Cheese enchiladas, black beans, and Spanish rice. I am not a fan of green sauces, but this one was good. My husband and I frequently eat at Ajuua. He loves the Margaritas here (says they actually have alcohol in them! lol), and I enjoy their pineapple mojitos! They have a great Monday special with drinks included. The patio is very nice... no car noise! The Mexican Shrimp cocktail is very good... also really love the chicken stuffed poblano pepper with cilantro cream sauce, and the cilantro lime rice... so good. The service and pricing is good. It took a while for the receptionist to come to the podium and seat us. The woman who came to table first gave us only one glass of water and then another man came after a long while to tell us he was our server. He seemed rushed, but nice about acknowledging us. Went to Ajuua for a party. We got the buffet which was a nice selection of food. Margaritas were good. You can also get a flight of margaritas which gives you about 3 or 4 ounces of their different margaritas. I'm pretty traditional and don't really care for strawberry and the like. But everyone enjoyed the flights and thought the different flavors were good. For the brunch it was $5 a flight, a really good deal. I got the usual fare, enchiladas, rice beans. There was desert like flan but I passed but it did look good. If you're a big eater buffets are always good. We were on the covered outside patio which would have been nice with cooler weather but it was May in Texas!!! Still I'd like to go back and try their other dishes especially since I'm a flauta fanatic! read more

We snuck away from the family reunion and decided to have a redo of Mexican food after visiting Rita's (which we did not like). It was not very busy inside, so of course we were served quickly by a very attentive waiter. The chips and salsa were better than what we had the day before. To start, we ordered queso not knowing how huge the bowl was going to be! It was decent, but it could have used just a bit more flavor. The water is not good at all, so I advise drinking literally anything else. I ordered cheese enchiladas with verde, chipotle, and creamy poblano sauces along with rice and beans. The enchiladas were great as were all of the sauces. However, the sauces were too much. For the sauces being so rich, less sauce would have been more effective. The rice and beans had nice flavor, and my partner shared similar sentiments about the sauce but enjoyed the burrito. Overall, I do feel that this is a decent place for Tex-Mex which seems to be a dime a dozen in San Antonio. I may return here on the next visit because the food was good, but I want to explore more options and see what else is out there. read more
