So the adventure begins when it is decided to go to palisades after a long shift (here on a work assignment not from the area). We are greeted by a very friendly hostess who immediately sits us at a table with the sun right in our faces, she goes oh there is curtains on the window u can pull down if you don't like the sun in your faces. Me and a fellow crew member jump up and try to pull the curtain down only to realize it's not a curtain and is just a window decoration, she laughs and goes oh maybe not and immediately seats us at a different table after we requested it. Problem solved right? WRONG! 20 minutes of sitting at the new table later a waitress brings us waters sets them on the table and walks away without really paying us any mind. 20 minutes later the bartender comes into the dining area to take our drink order, shouldn't the bartender be tending to the bar and not taking our order in the dining area? Shouldn't that be the waitress' responsibility? Anyways she takes our drink order and we let her know we are ready to order food. She takes down our order and heads around the corner. 15 minutes later we get our drinks we ordered. 10 minutes of waiting for a refill I finally grab a waitress and request a refill. Waitress never brings refill, bartender walks by, I ask bartender for refill. Bartender comes back soon after with refill, apologizes that they forgot about my refill (restaurant has very few customers by the way). 20 minutes later we get our food, I ordered the grilled chicken fettuccine, what I got was grilled chicken pasta grease soup, see photo below. My Crewmember got a burger that was made with a precooked frozen hamburger patty you would get from your local Walmart, third Crewmember's salad I happily announce was edible! It gets better from here, we request our checks. Bartender brings us our checks, I still give bartender 2 bucks tip because I felt bad about not tipping and seemed like she was picking up the slack. 2nd crewmember gets bill, questions bill because it's 4 dollars more expensive than what it should be. Bartender takes bill to double check price, comes back and apologizes says it's a fluke with technology. 3rd crewmember also pays bill, after finally leaving the restaurant and getting back to the vehicle we all realized we got overcharged 4 extra dollars onto our bills, crewmember 2 caught it and didn't get the extra charge, hmmmmm... Shortly after arriving back to my hotel room, I started writing this review on the toilet... total time in restaurant - 1 hr 25 minutes total time to order drinks and get drinks - 35 minutes total time to receive food - 45 minutes total time on toilet from food poisoning - 45 minutes 1 star for terrible service, terrible food, food poisoning, and employees knowing service is terrible and instead of fixing terrible service, secretly overcharges customers to force a tip out of them for terrible service. This restaurant was awful! We went there on 8-9 got there at 5 and dinner came about 6:15. Waitress came back four times to get certain pieces of our order because she said she couldn't read her hand writing then when we finally asked they they at least get our 4 and 5 year olds meals fast the Mac and cheese came out 20 minutes later. We were passing through from fishing all day and decided to stop and try this place (even after all the negative reviews) we were greeted by a man that was a friend of the owners saying everyone was lazy. I watched the bartender and 2 waitresses see us standing there and was never greeted. We left and realized everywhere else was busy so we came back and when my husband asked a lady if we could be seated she snapped back and said "we have no hostess and I'm busy". Well shit I've been in the industry for 20 years and if it was my restaurant you would be let go for A treating customers like shit and B for walking away with an attitude. Terrible. Out of many things including baked potatoes and the shrimp we tried to order. Ordered three salads - two came out before meals but other didn't and took forever to get even after asking for it multiple times. Chili not listed with beans but was mainly beans and awful. When tried to send it back, waitress said it was listed as red bean chili. Looked at menu again, abd it did not list beans at all. Prime rib served almost cold. The menu said happy hour on chips and salsa was from 3 to 6 p.m. It was 6:01 p.m. and I asked our waiter if we could still get it. He looked at his watch and said, "No." Not no, I'm sorry, just no. We ordered a burger and a BLT. 35 minutes later, at 6:35, we got our food. Our waiter never checked on us at all and there were only two or three occupied tables in the large room. Mr. Personality walked over, put our food on the table, said, "There you go", and walked away. When we finished eating, he walked over, put the check on the table without saying a word, and walked off. The food was pretty good, although there is no way my half pound burger ever weighed half a pound, before cooking or at any other time. I don't know why any business would allow an employee like our waiter to treat customers the way this guy did us. He is probably in his 50s or 60s so he should know better. My husband and I come here all the time for lunch. I've never been disappointed by their soups, and the french dip, adult grilled cheese (add bacon), and the reuben are our top faves. Tried it for dinner once, got a steak. Nothing to write home about, but I also had nothing to complain about. Will return! Probably today because I'm craving soup :) read more

The food we tried was very good. Very basic with what we ordered! But it was good. I had a grilled ham and cheese and hubby had chicken fried steak. The service was absolutely non-existent but the food made up for it. I think I'd go back?? Assuming the service was better! Also would have been nice to have outside option offered to us. We didn't realize that was a choice and host didn't offer it. We would have preferred that had we known it was even an option. read more

Stopped for late lunch on the way back from Crested Butte. Atmosphere was nice, server had a mask, friendly . Food came out and burger was raw. Sent the burger back. Burger was put on the grill or microwaved after having been eaten - yuk for all the other customers and it was still raw. By now everyone else was done eating and we just asked for the check. Server apologized - he could see the burger hadn't been touched. He said "I'll get you a discount, so sorry." He went to the owner who was sitting at a table near us watching the football game, he looked at the plate and sent the server away. We sat and sat and sat. Finally 15 minutes later- I got up and went to find the server - he was standing in the back waiting for the owner to tell him what to do. Not a good owner, not good customer service and not a good boss. Oh and I wasn't aware the masks were optional for bar tenders in CO. He was all over the bar area with no mask, talking and touching everything. And the server brought a portable credit card machine to our table in order for us to cash ourselves out. Odd. Way overpriced. Wouldn't recommend it. We will never go back. When handed our food, there was an obvious black hair in it. I politely beckoned the waitress back to our table to request different food. She took the item and acted like nothing happened. Brought back what looked to be the the same food with an area scooped off. To top it off, there wasn't any apologies nor did she offer any type of discount. So, she was left with a small tip that should have been less. Wait- there's even more- the food was bland and just short of McDonald's. Quite honestly a fast food restaurant might have been a better choice. The $33 steak tasted like a $5 steak, they over seasoned the pasta and the Reuben sandwich and onion rings were both soggy-- note the sauce was on the side. I have worked the service industry for many years and was very disappointed. The owner might want to revisit the food their serving and the servers serving it. Came on a Sunday for the breakfast buffet and it was awesome! Fresh fruit, pancakes, potatoes, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy and an egg station. You can get eggs anyway you want them! Food was awesome! Eggs made to perfection. Pancakes light and fluffy served with soft butter and syrup. The restaurant is really clean. We sat outside, great outdoor seating. You have sunny or shaded spots so it speaks to the sun lovers and the shade seekers. Great amount of parking. They were very busy and the service was still great. Constantly we had to stop her for refills, straws, etc. Food was way worse. I had the fish and Chips and the cod was way over cooked and was super greasy. They were the cheapest Sam's Club patties you can buy, grilled to a charcoal-like consistency. Which was not exactly what I was looking for when I ordered them medium rare. But the BBQ sauce was of such high quantity that we were able to scrap off 90% of it and still taste nothing remotely resembling a hamburger. There was no offer of an appetizer or dessert to make up for the sham that passes for service. Nor any discount on the bill. I actually left without screaming at the server or the manager. It has been my goal to review every restaurant in Gunnison, and I was excited to finally try Palisades! The atmosphere is very country western but also has a sports bar feel. They serve american/western food that is pretty good, but a little expensive for the quality of food you are paying for. My salad had barely any flavor, but the country fried steak was pretty excellent. The menu is pretty average, and the service is average as well. Where to begin...so I came here with my wife and 1 year old, and my brother, his wife and their 1 year old. My wife ordered a buffalo chicekn salad, which was nothing more than a bag of iceberg lettuce, a grenn bell pepper ring, cold breaded chicken, a boiled egg and a tomato...gross. I ordered the philly cheese steak and fries, the only edible thing about my meal was the fries. My sister in law ordered a chicken sandwhich which she couldnt even finish because it was so awful and my brother ordered a chicken caesar salad, which was about 2 times smaller than the plate it was served on. Our kids got the cheeseburger, which was just black, burnt meat, and the corn dog bites, which were just out of the freezer section. Gross. The entire meal was awful, took nearly 2 hours, and the service was atrocious. The fact that this place is still in business is beyond amazing. This place should be thankful to everyone who continuously wastes their money on the awful food and service they offer. If you want good food in Gunnison, go elsewhere!!! read more

In spite of the wimpy reviews on Palisades we decided to try it as it looked so inviting on the outside. We were a bit disappointed at the inside decor but with trepidation we decided to stay. So glad we did! My husband ordered their Beef and Cheddar soup and I ordered the Taco Salad. It arrived in a huge shell and stacked to the brim with lettuce, sour cream, avocado, and lots of ground beef. DELICIOUS. Hubby said the soup was very good too. It was filled with chunky tender pieces of beef. I also found their iced tea delicious. We will definitely visit again when in Gunnison, which just happens to be a favorite town of mine. read more

Visited this restaurant last weekend. Next day had a great case of the sh**s. Buffalo Burger was terrible. I think the bad meat got to me in about 16 hours. Our waitress was super, Courtney. Bloody Mary's were very tasty. This place has a great location and probably has plenty of local business but next time I'm in Gunnison I'll be going somewhere else. After returning from the mountains for a day of recreational ATV riding on the 4th of July, my family and I were seeking out a good steakhouse. After reading reviews and seeing an over all 3 star review... I was a little unsure of trying the place, even though the rest of my group was determined to give it a shot. Long story short, I am so glad we did! Three of us got the prime rib, and one of us got a chicken fried steak. We were all very pleased with our entrees! The service was outstanding as well! I wish more servers were as attentive and polite at other places. So, since I doubted the place based on a 3 star review; I decided it was only fair to give a great review about my awesome experience so that people like me going forward will be more likely to try this rare find!
