What can I say? This place is your typical dive bar. We decided to come here Friday night after seeing their special was prime rib! We came early, 6 PM. We ordered a couple of beers and were served right away by a very attentive bartender. We ordered two prime ribs. They came with baked potato and a side salad. $11.99! That's right folks 12 bucks for prime rib. We opted to get a bowl of Ivar's clam chowder as well. The chowder was tasty.It was Ivars after all. The prime ribs were very generous portion. Not gonna lie, Palmers East is my jam in Redmond. I like dive bars, and Palmers is just that. My friends and I came here for post-event beers and it was a fun time! Just like any dive bar, the drinks are super cheap, with prices that would be happy hour anywhere else, with loud karaoke and old school beats in between. I dig it! The DJ was very engaging with the audience and often sang with the karaoke goers. Yes, the space isn't the most spacious nor is it roomy, especially when it hits close to midnight, so it can get super warm and sweaty. But it's a dive bar. What do you expect? Don't go to Palmer's if you are an over 40 white male like me. You'll just get harassed by their staff and patrons. I went there last night for some pool, karaoke, and to just meet some nice people. I had two twenty-something males harass me. One playing pool, saying I say the N word a lot, which I don't, and don't recommend. One tall goofy fuker at the bar saying I roof-ied his girlfriends drink, which I did not and is a felony crime, or something stupid. He was trying to pick a fight. I almost called the cops, but took care of him myself. And then walked out forever after leaving 0 tip. The two male bartenders are condescending dbags who talk to me literally like I am a child. The only nice people that work there are the two women bartenders, and the karaoke people. If I go back, and I likely won't, I am going with two ex-Marines, and see how much dudes want to talk shit then. Skip this dump and go to the Matador or Redmond Pub, both down the the street. It was a lovely evening so we gave Palmers a chance to prove themselves. I'm afraid they fell short. We waited 20 minutes before a waitress took our drink order. It took ten minutes to get a couple glasses of water and another half hour to get our food. I asked if they had cocktail sauce for the fish and chips. The waitress said "Sure. No problem." She came back ten minutes later and said they didn't but had horseradish. "That's fine." Another long wait later she brought our food without either. Then she disappeared. We made do and finally gave up waiting for a check. We left enough cash on the table. The tacos were ordinary, the fish and chips, pedestrian. The seating is in a busy street and (apparently) near a pot shop and where people smoked cigarettes upwind. We were lucky to get a parking place in their dedicated lot. I doubt if we'll be back. I am part of a group who visits Palmers often and have made lots of friends there as well. I have been coming in for several years and have always had a good experience.The bouncers and bartenders/waitstaff are wonderful (as long as you are behaving!) :) I am a big karaoke fan and I enjoy all of the karaoke DJs. Sometimes they get a little silly but I find it entertaining. I also love that they have a decent size dance floor. It is almost like a big family and I always feel safe. read more

There is some part of me that thinks Palmers was owned by Greg Palmer, the guy who did movie reviews locally a number of years ago, but I really can't back that thought with any facts. Anyways, as to the review of the bar... I've been a few times and really appreciate Palmers. It's one of the few places left in Redmond that aren't fancy gastropub experiences. You can get an affordable beer, even a Rainier, on tap and maybe listen to some decent live music, if you plan your trip right. I think some would jump to judge this a dive bar, as for me I do not. Although I have not been in the day, I cannot imagine that a whole lot of day drinking goes on here? It doesn't smell bad? It actually has decent food, which I believe disqualifies it as a dive bar. Palmers offers a nice contrast from the typical Eastside eatery or bar. It is not gentrified and even has a bit of a roadhouse vibe. The drinks and food are reasonably priced (particularly when viewed against the Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland competition), and the people are friendly. During the weekdays it has something of a cafe vibe, but Friday and Saturday night it's packed and jumping. Breakfast is good and I've had the prime rib for dinner which was also really good. The owner and staff will usually work with you if one ever does arise and are usually happy to help! Unless you are some person who is a ***hat (B.S.) that would rather write bad reviews and not work with people. Seriously just come in and find out for yourself. All the staff and the DJ are always there to help you have a good time. Just do not bring a bad attitude with you. Fridays and Saturdays can be super busy and very loud!! If you want to sing more than once, I highly suggest you get there at 9pm. If you want to sing a lot. Come in on the other nights. I had a lot of fun here. My friend had her birthday party here and a lot of us were driving from Seattle to join the celebration at Palmers on eastside. First, it's an interesting place where there are mixed of people from ages of 30-60 plus. Second, it's kind of awkward because you can feel different sets of eyes are you. I am sure Redmond is famous for their cougars. And, yes, I saw a lot that night. In fact, I may be joining them soon! Although, the karaoke night was a lot of fun! The DJ that night was so cool and sings very well himself! He would jump in entertain if there's no one singing. The bartender on duty was very nice. He recommended cider because I don't like most of the beers. I ordered a couple starters and went pick up but missed it and he delivered to me. That was very nice! If you sit there for more than an hour or so inevitably someone will walk in, sit down by themselves, order a drink and kick back for a few songs. I've been two or three times, and it's just a nice, fun, dive bar. Service is great, atmosphere is just what you'd expect for a dive bar, and the food is shockingly good. I was there last night, and got the Palmer's Plate of Steak and Prawns ($13.99). "A juicy 8oz. top sirloin grilled to your liking, with sautéed prawns served on a bed of garlic linguini", served with a very basic house salad and I picked a baked potato. For that price, I was a little bit expecting food poisoning, but I was very happily surprised. The food was really, really good. The steak was cooked exactly how I ordered it, the garlic linguini was delicious, and the prawns were well cooked and scrumptious. I almost ordered it again that same night, it was so good. -- I'd also like to add that that dish is the most expensive on their menu. Average burger / sandwich price is about $8-$9. They have karaoke every night starting at 9pm. The bar gets crowded, and very loud, but the guy running the karaoke is good at his job, and it's super fun. I've lived on the Eastside of Seattle for more than 20 years, walked past this place countless times and never stopped in until this week. My husband, son and I were looking for an unpretentious place to eat a late lunch at reasonable prices. Lots of online reviewers commented that this is a total dive bar but has great food and friendly service. They were correct. We really enjoyed our club sandwich, patty melt and tuna melt (each served with fries). Definitely better food than at many of the fancy restaurants in downtown Redmond or Kirkland. Our servers were attentive and congenial. As for the ambiance, oh yeah, it's a total dive. We expected the place to be dead on a Monday afternoon but there was a crowd of senior citizens who, in the words of Judas Priest ("Livin' After Midnight") appeared to be "loaded, loaded!" long before sunset, let alone midnight. The P in Palmers is for PULL-TABS! Seriously, this is one of two (that I know of) divey bars in Redmond that have pull-tabs. Their location is also great, being right down-town, within walking distance of many other bars and restaurants. It makes for a great evening of bar hopping! I promised to give Palmer's another try, and I did. The karaoke host is enthusiastic as usual. My only compliant there is that it was far too loud! Still, the sound system is good. The crowd is still odd for Redmond, I would not be entirely comfortable there by myself. The bar setup is bizarre, with everyone shoved to the corner of the bar and forming a line for drinks. I don't normally leave reviews but I feel I must say something about this. When I went into this bar the first time it seemed like a fun place. Everyone was talking to each other and laughing. It took a while to get my first drink from a smiley guy bartender who lingered while he took my order but he was friendly. Although people were talking, nobody seemed to want to talk to me and I was to find out that most people who come in here during the day are locals and regulars who are friendly to each other though hard to break the ice with. That was okay since I came in to get away from it all anyway. My second drink came even later as I watched my smiley bartender talk and flirt with practically everyone so after I drank I paid in cash and left before the evening crowd came in. When I returned earlier in the day a few days later I was confronted by a very terse and harsh woman bartender who proclaimed that I had not paid my previous bill. I explained to her that I had paid it in cash to the bartender who was flirty and chatty. She was very rude to me and insisted that I pay my previous bill, AGAIN! I wasn't aware that bars in Redmond hired thugs to collect money while they were bar tending and strong-arm new patrons but I paid the bill to avoid confrontation and persecution. The bar had a few more people at this point and someone overheard my comments and later come up to me in confidence and told me that there have been several instances where people pay in cash and get the rough treatment for not paying and then have to pay, again. They had also experienced this more than once. It appears as though Mr. bartender is pocketing money and the strong-arms collect on paid bills. I finished my drink, paid by card to keep record, and left to never return. What a crappy experience in a dive bar. Either the owner has no clue or supports this sort of behavior.
