I highly recommend coming for their happy hour menu as they have a lot of appetizers and drinks for reasonably priced! Can be somewhat difficult to get a table on a weekend, but if you come a little earlier, it wasn't impossible! I would come back for the French dip sandwich/sliders! Visited on a Saturday evening around 7:30 PM. Although the restaurant sounded very busy because of the noise level, there were still a few tables available, and we were seated almost immediately. Our server came by within a couple of minutes, brought us water, and we ordered the Sesame Ginger Salad and Fish & Chips. The food took a while to arrive, and we noticed neighboring tables were also waiting. The menu is fairly limited, which wasn't an issue, but the service could definitely be improved. There seemed to be one person taking orders and another delivering food, but no one checked in after our meals arrived. We needed extra plates and had to flag someone down because no one came by on their own. As for the food, it was decent but nothing memorable. The Fish & Chips were the better dish, with a generous portion size and nicely cooked fish. The Sesame Ginger Salad was just okay--it tasted a bit bitter and could have used more dressing. It felt like mostly cabbage with very little else to balance it out. After we finished eating, our plates were cleared, and almost immediately another staff member came over with the check asking if we were ready to go, rather than asking if we'd like dessert or anything else. It made the experience feel a bit rushed. The interior has a cozy, old-school charm, and the atmosphere is nice. Unfortunately, the food and service didn't quite match the ambiance. We had dinner at Palmers last weekend while in town for a golf trip. We were a party of 8 and were able to be seated in the back of the restaurant in a semi private room which was nice. The restaurant was packed on a Friday night. We sat about 830. The service was really good. The drinks were coming fast and furious. The menu is not a big menu with a lot of choices but there's enough there for anyone to order. We had a few appetizers. We had meatballs warm bread and chicken wings. The wings had a kick to it. The meatballs were very good and I can say the appetizers had everyone excited. The rest of the meal was pretty mid based on everyone's choice. The star was the off menu French dip and the chicken schnitzel. A few don't the pastrami sandwich including myself. It was decent at best. There was some confusion around the sandwiches because two of the guys were splitting the sandwich which came cut in half but on the same plate. So when the second plate came, the waiter and the guys thought they were both for one side of the table. It wasn't as advertised but it fed people. The vibe was good and the drinks were great. I'm a huge fan of the Negroni here!! So so yummy! Just tried the burger the other night with truffle fries and it was delicious! Haven't explored the menu a ton but they have a new chef and everything seems to look really good! I think this is a great spot with a lot of variety! If you want something more chill/on a budget you can get the burger and a drink or if you want to splurge/try more things they have a variety of that too! It gets busy here especially on the weekends which will probably vary people's experience with service and ambiance but they do a great job even when it gets busy! I do love the ambiance, it feels cozy yet luxe! This will def be a new go to for me since it's in the neighborhood and will be lovely for a variety of occasions (dinner/dates/drinks and bites, etc.) and cravings! Swung by Palmer's for a quick happy hour cocktail and was not disappointed! On a Saturday afternoon, this place was deservedly packed -- the decor, ambiance, and bustle make it such a staple SF institution that is good for bringing your friends (or guests from outside of SF) to! tips: make a res if coming on a weekend or during happy hour, especially if you have a larger group. staff was nice enough to give us a reserved table for ~1 hour when we came by without res. also, happy hour is 4-6pm and features discounted light bites and $11 cocktails! Both cocktails were unique and memorable. The Boulevardier is like a smoother, almost caramel-like cousin of the negroni, and the Parisian Bouquet was sweet, tart, and appropriately smelled like flowers in a really good way. Service was speedy despite the chaos of the crowd, and I was impressed that people didn't bump into each other more often. Would come back to try other happy hour offerings on the menu! read more

It was Saturday night and my friend and I were on Fillmore and the place we originally wanted to go to was unavailable. This was nearby and looked busy, so we assumed it had to be good. The place's decor was definitely cute and it was pretty lively. Pros: - our server was great: she was attentive and kind - cute decor and clean bathrooms Cons: - palmer's punch was their signature drink; I got it as recommended by the server and it was so nasty lol it tasted like frat house jungle juice - sour cream and onion dip: got this as an app to share; it's straight up mayo and yogurt I think. bland, one note, some chips are literally floppy/stale - the host was very odd, my friend saw her aimlessly rummaging through things, she was dressed haphazardly (you could see half of her bra in a tasteless way), her behavior mirrored someone off of benzos, you could also tell her colleagues were annoyed with her - the cat that lives upstairs: to preface; I'm a cat person and love cats. But there was a cat who was on the literal bar, walking on the counter, where people were eating and drinking, then said cat went outdoors onto the streets with it's bare feet and came back walking on the counters. Ew. that is so unsanitary. We saw our waitress trying to keep him off of the counter but some customers would literally grab him and put him back... gross and the cat shouldn't be walking on a surface of a restaurant especially after walking outdoors read more

Wish I could leave zero stars. Stopped in for fries and a drink. Stayed under an hour, paid my tab with the waitress, waved goodbye on my way out. Here's where it gets interesting, while still parked around the corner, I glanced in my rearview mirror to find the bartender approaching my car to ask if I'd paid. I paid. With the waitress. Because the bartender was too busy to notice I needed the check. The fix was simple: ask one of the two waitresses on the floor. Instead, a paying customer got followed to their car and accused of skipping out... in Pacific Heights, at 7:45pm, in broad daylight. The behavior was insulting enough. The cavalier attitude made it worse. I'll leave out the details that would plainly paint this in an even harsher light for this establishment, because I believe in second chances. I paid my bill in full, but because I chose not to leave a tip, the server confronted and insulted me on the way out, calling me "horrible" few times in front of other people. Tipping is entirely voluntary. It is completely unacceptable and unprofessional for staff to harass customers over a gratuity. Are Americans aware of this?? The management needs to train their employees on basic customer service boundaries. I will not be returning. Also make sure you don't hire such a emotionally unstable man. Palmer Tavern on Fillmore has a lot going for it. The recent interior remodel looks fantastic, the space feels warm, polished, and inviting. The service was also very kind and attentive, which made the experience pleasant overall. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the setting. The meatballs were pretty burnt, and the Caesar salad was nothing to write home about. The chicken on it was also quite dry, which was disappointing. Food-wise, nothing really stood out. That said, I did really enjoy the Bees mocktail I ordered, it was refreshing and well made. I'd be open to coming back and trying it again because the space and service were great, but overall I left feeling a bit underwhelmed by the food. read more

This is my 1600th review to ring in the new year! I was at Palmer's with friends on NYE for dinner and drinks. I got the arancini, truffle fries, chicken schnitzel, and a coconut cake. They were all delicious! The arancini was crispy on the outside with fluffy risotto on the inside. The marinara was supposed to be spicy, but I didn't find it so. And that's fine with me as I prefer a sweeter marinara. The chicken schnitzel was thin and crispy. I really enjoyed the arugula on top, especially with a squeeze of the charred lemon. I actually dislike arugula because I find it bitter. But the arugula in this dish was lemony, even before the charred lemon, so it added a nice, bright acidity. I added truffle fries on the side and they did not skimp on the truffle oil. It was very fragrant, and the fries were crispy as well. I also got to try my friend's Brussels sprouts, which had a nice smoky flavor from the char. Palmer's collaborated with Miette next door for their desserts. And the coconut cake with caramel was delicious and not too sweet. I could only eat half, and it was even better the next day. As for drinks, I just got the sparkling rose, which was good. My friend got the Autumn in New York, which is essentially their old fashioned. That was delicious and I would totally order that next time. Service was fantastic! Everyone was really nice and accommodating. And because it was NYE, the vibes were celebratory with balloons and music. It was really loud, so I'm not sure if the noise level is like that every night. I know they had been closed for awhile, so I'm glad they're up and running again. read more

The food was brought out by someone else and we waved down another server for refills. We saw the original server at the end and mentioned not having anyone around, she simply responded "yeah, I went on break." The consensus about the food was that it was very underwhelming and in some cases downright bad. We had a group of four people so we ordered a variety, and everyone had a look disappoint on their face. MEATBALLS - Cold on the inside. Room temperature on the outside and not enough sauce. SMOKED CHICKEN WINGS - Cannot actually be smoked as there is ZERO smoke flavor. Seemed to be oven baked then lightly sauced. FISH & CHIPS - Soggy and greasy. BEEF CARPACCIO - Lacked citrus. The arugula and frisée mix overwhelmed the plate and attempted to hide the paltry amount of beef. TUNA CRUDO - Tasted fresh and has a nice balance of flavor. read more

So we opted for all these other various things, Mac n cheese was mediocre and not particularly cheesy surprisingly. The meatballs can easily be made at home. Kid enjoyed the burger but wish there was an option for a salad instead of fries. The tuna tartare was the best part of the meal in my opinion because they put bacon in their tiny serving of Brussel sprouts. Server was nice and we didn't have to wait long for our food. I had a seat in the window area and after about 5 minutes no one greeted me. I asked the hostess to send a server to take my order, and she ended up taking it. The food was good, but I had to flag down servers for everything water, wine, a to go box, and it was never apparent who was my server. I asked a busser for a wedge of lemon and he brought it to me with his bare hand. To add insult to injury, no one ever asked me how everything was, and from beginning to end I felt completely ignored. Very disappointing, as in the past I have received very good service. I also noticed that the staff has changed, and there was only one person who I recognized. I inquired about the staff changes, and I was informed that there was a huge staff turnover. The best classic bar on Fillmore. I stopped in to watch a soccer game and was immediately welcomed in. Scott the bartender was fun and engaging and recommended the burger and it was good with my manhattan and his recommended glass of Cabernet. He even threw in a Furnet to wash it all down. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and good scenery. If you're looking for a sophisticated but unpretentious neighborhood bar on Fillmore, Palmer's is the place. We had happy hour beer and wine with deviled eggs and then had the ravioli and the cheese burger which was the best burger I've ever had in the Bay Area. I want to love this restaurant. It's decor nails the ideal of a neighborhood steak house that lingers in my mind. The patrons are lively and plentiful. I had had some mediocre meals there before it was forced to close for repairs, but I returned, hoping that during months of closure that they could reimagine their kitchen to live up to the atmosphere. Sadly, I ordered the chard ravioli and it was one of the worst dishes I have ever been served, worse than a can of Chef Boyardee heated up in the microwave. Perhaps I am just being punished for not ordering meat at a steakhouse, but my guess is that my experience points to a total lack of professionalism in the kitchen that raises doubts about whether they can cook anything that would pair with the atmosphere. I will be going to Chex Maman or Florio's in the future. read more

The staff were all nice but overwhelmed and service for drinks was extremely slow. No roll ups on table. Food flew out once ordered. Not sure if that's good or bad. The schnitzel was OK but very dry. The burger was good. The fries also. The carrots were a little overcooked. Generally I would say I'm not sure it was a relaxing meal due to the chaos and the noise. Took a while for the server to come by and get our drink order, and drinks came out a short while later. Server finally came back to take our food order, she seemed kinda stoned or something. Food took a long time to come out, and it was good, but a bit on the salty side. After that, server had to be flagged down to get more drinks and finally some water, after we had finished eating. I am genuinely appalled by the service at Palmer's. Despite multiple open tables and plenty of staff on the floor, I was completely ignored. I stood at the front for several minutes, made repeated attempts to get someone's attention, and was deliberately looked past every time. No greeting, no explanation -- nothing. The only conclusion I can reasonably draw to being ignored is because I am a teenager. The " hospitality" at Palmers is insulting and unacceptable. Hospitality does not get to be selective based on appearance. After this happened, I had to check if this place was only 21+ and it's not. I am appalled. I ultimately left, not because the restaurant was busy, but because being treated as invisible is not an experience I'm willing to tolerate. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. read more

First time back after their remodel. Friday early evening reservation nice greeting from hostess but slid downhill from there. Server did not offer any useful suggestions. Asked to split wedge salad which came in its entirety and an extra plate for two to divide. Creamed spinach side came out before mediocre steaks but server did return to bring back later. Autumn In New York cocktail not bad first time but inconsistent in a bad way the second time. Loud in dining room, probably best for those who like drinking and less interested in the food.
