So we called a couple times and let them know that we would be close to the 10pm cutoff and when we got there they made it happen. I am currently on a low to no carb diet (under 20g) and I haven't ate all day. I told the waitress that I wanted a big ass Ribeye and some lobster and she replied that I can cut it to however big you want it ( I believe she stoled one of my pickup lines). I order a 20 oz boneless ribeye and lobster tail medium well and man they did a great job. Excellent cut of meat very tender throughout and cooked perfect. The round bar as you step in is the main attraction for this supper club. Unfortunately, the whole place lacks ambiance for a nice night out (exposed electrical pipe, bathroom fixtures need a redo, stacking chairs in the dining room, etc.). Lacks great ambiance, prices are high. Well maybe the food is great. Nope. It's ok. The relish tray was supersized broccoli florets (I had to cut them down), size-of-my-thumb nail florets of cauliflower, and baby carrots. I had the sautéed Texas sized shrimp. Great size, but it was just warm, and my potato was room temperature, while my guest's potato was steaming hot. Oh, and when the dining room was half empty, they sat the two of us at a table for two ON THE STARIS leading to the dining room. This table should not be used unless all other tables are full. In short: Eat here if you want to be treated like an inconvenience and get FOOD POISONING. My fiancé and I live near the Palms and have seen the place looking busy so we decided to give it a try for dinner last night. We didn't have a reservation so we decided to eat early and showed up at 5:15pm. We were seated immediately, which was nice. That was where the nice ended. The restaurant was dead, and had maybe three tables filled. Despite this, we were seated at the only table within arm's reach of both the kitchen and bathroom. We were treated to a view of a messy entrance to the kitchen and the staff/waitresses gossiping in a group literally 2ft away from us. Our waitress was a younger woman in her 20's, but had the crotchety temperament of someone who had been waitressing a long time and wasn't happy about it. She made a quick pass to give us bread plates and butter but no bread. She repeatedly pressed us for our order, barely having time to peruse the menu which was overpriced. His order was a French dip sandwich, but they charged extra for onions and cheese as the sandwich only came with the meat,bread and au jus for dipping. He substituted his side of chips for French onion soup. My order was a cup of French onion soup and a Cobb salad with blue cheese dressing. After ordering we were mostly ignored, as the waitress brought our soup, and the dressing for my salad- but still hadn't brought the house bread. The soup was lukewarm,and just meh. The flavor was similar to what you'd get from a canned soup. The only nice touch was the cheese melted over the top. It wasn't until we were finished with our soup that a different (and much more pleasant) waitress noticed we hadn't been given our bread and ran to get it. It came pre-sliced and was warm and crusty. It was also, sadly, the highlight of the meal. When our food arrived, my fiancé found the onions were undercooked for the French dip and seemed like they had been partially steamed. His description of the sandwich "Overly wet (without dipping) and... adequate." While we were eating our waitress made a drive-by attempt to ask if we liked the food but couldn't be bothered to make eye contact or even stay to hear our answers. My salad came with overcooked hard boiled eggs, that had a lovely green ring around the yolk. The chicken was rubbery, the bacon was in a hard clump, the blue cheese was minimal, and the avocado slices were barely ripe and hard to break up. The roll that came with the salad was so rock hard I could have used it to hammer nails. It was obviously old and had specks of mold on the underside. The dressing was nasty. I love blue cheese but this blue cheese dressing had an odd sweetness to it and in unpleasant aftertaste. I thought it was simply the brand of dressing they were using. When mixed with the rest of the salad it was better, but not by much. Eating it was a mistake, as I got food poisoning and was sick less than 3 hours after eating here. After the mess that was our dinner, the waitress literally removed our plates , and dumped a machine in our lap to pay with a card. She walked away telling us to leave the machine on the table when we left. Don't waste your time here. read more

Rib Eye wasn't bad but not worth the price considering the up charge of $2 for a little side onion and another $2 for a few (very few) sautéed mushrooms. A one word review would be "disappointing". I have a bigger pet peeve with places like this than I do with the Outbacks of the world. When you call yourself a "Steak House," you should be able to grill a steak. I guess I should have learned by now. Unless you go to Morton's or Ruth's Chris, you might as well grill at home. I was already annoyed that I was introducing my colleague to fried cheese curds for the first time...and this tiny tray of cheese scraps came out. You're Wisconsin for God's sake....represent what you're known for! (I'll bet this is why Brett Favre and Greg Jennings left for Minnesota...okay...I can't back that up) Lastly, the place hasn't been updated since 1645 (yes, this is an arbitrary date), which doesn't bother me since being terrible at grilling steaks at your own steakhouse doesn't usually bring in a windfall of dough. Upon arrival we were asked if we had a reservation and since we did not, we were told the wait was about 1 hour to 1:15. Knowing that it was the Saturday after Valentine's Day (Valentine's was Thursday) we understood and decided to have a few drinks at the bar. The bar was nice. There was a light band playing and the drinks were pretty inexpensive. We did begin to notice that several people waiting along with us, started to order dinner at the bar. After walking to the restroom, I noticed MANY open tables. After checking multiple times on our table we were finally seated about 1:45 later, and totally starving. We ordered an appetizer, which was the Walleye cheeks and they were delicious. After ordering our dinner, we waited probably 30 minutes before our food arrived. Tables around us, that were seated AFTER us, were DONE with their food when we got ours! And frankly, I could cook a better steak and I'm a terrible cook. I ate maybe 4 bites of the steak. Odd place with what I would describe as weird service. Was told 25 minute wait even though a lot of tables appeared empty. first of all not a single person was wearing a mask, even the chef/cook came out to the bar and had no mask on. there was one other table with 3 people and our server seemed preoccupied with other things in the back room to bother with the two tables she was serving. the drop ceiling had huge water stains everywhere, McDonalds has more comfortable seating then this place and much cleaner too. the food: my wife had the beer batter jumbo shrimp and i had the cod and jumbo shrimp, the shrimp was not very good, and the serving sizes small, the beer batter tasted horrible. The cod was very small pieces. the dinner came with choice of potato, my meal said $19 on the menu but the bill was $22 plus a $3 special potato charge. my wife's meal had the same $3 increase from the menu price and the potato charge? your local McDonalds has better service, cleaner and better tasting food. think the health dept. should drop by for more then one reason. So disappointed from the other reviews I read and the pictures of how nice the place looks. read more

To give them credit, I had visited the Palms a few years ago and was impressed. My most recent experience in Sept. 2011 was very disappointing. The cocktails were high-priced and so-so compared to other places in Wausau. The food was the big disappointment. I ordered a chicken breast strip dinner. What they served me for my $15 was a baked potato and what appeared to be four tiny injection-molded chicken paste sticks like you'd get out of a box at your grocery store. The waitress was friendly enough but seemed confused and didn't really "get it". She was not in any way rude or indifferent it's just that the entire time we were there we were not asked how our meals were or if our beverages needed a refill. The place was very empty so none of the staff were too busy to give good service. There are too many other places in town that excel so I have no need to go back to The Palms read more

I was here with friends on Valentine's day. I am very hesitant about ordering prime rib from a place I have never been to before. I asked the normal question of "Is the prime seasoned in house or does it come already seasoned"....I am VERY happy that I was told it was seasoned in house & even more happier the way it tasted! Even tho the price was alittle more then I like to pay for a dinner... it was a nice treat. I like salsa instead of sour cream for my baked potato but was told they did not have salsa. When my meal came our waitress told me they make their own topping for brochette & gave me some of that. It was fantastic! The ONLY negative comment I have is that the 2 brandy old fashions (which were very good) that I had while sitting at the bar were 2 different prices even tho the same bartender made them both. read more

This was, without hyperbole, the worst dining experience my wife and I have ever had. A seating mix-up left us standing as we lost our seats waiting at the bar - we were promised the drinks would be free to compensate (smart move, problem forgiven). When we finally are seated 35 minutes into our experience, we order our food. My wife requested a side salad. It took fifty minutes for our food to be served, and in that time two other tables were seated and had their food delivered! It showed up 3 minutes before our cutoff time to leave - minus the salad, and the waitress ran off before we could get that fixed. Now all we wanted was our food boxed and a receipt - it literally took 17 more minutes for this! When she finally returns with a receipt the drinks are still on it, and this takes another 4 minutes to fix. When she comes over with a tablet to swipe my card, she had the gall to tap the various buttons to show me how to choose how much of a tip to give. She knew we were frustrated and couldn't give a care about it - definitely never returning to this outdated restaurant. read more

Back when my husband and I were first married over 50 years ago , The Palms was one of the few "nice" places in the area to go for special occasions. That is why we chose it yesterday for my husbands birthday dinner. We were somewhat disappointed to find it quite ordinary and not as special as we remembered it. The ribeyes we ordered had good flavor and were served medium rare as we ordered but were rather tough and very fat . The salad was made from good locally grown lettuce but the balsamic dressing tasted harsh and artificial, not like a good balsamic should. Hubby ordered French onion soup that also had good flavor but contained way too much bread which soaked up all the broth. Service too, was inconsistent. After our server brought or food , she all but disappeared. Maybe we are getting a bit "carmudgery" in our old age but The Palms needs to tweak their menu, quality,and service before we would recommend it. read more

Had the prime rib. Found it to be a large serving of mostly fat and gristle, while the meat was tough and tasteless. Baked potato was not heated all the way. I ordered my potato with everything, wife said just sour cream. We both received about 2 tsp of sour cream with something green sprinlked on top (chives?) served in a paper ketchup cup. They also serve salad dressings in a similar cup. Totally classless. Baked French onion soup was mediocore. I told the bartender about the meat and he said"yeh, we some like that" i.e too bad for you. Noticed other patrons sending their meals back or grumbling about the quality of the food. The tables did not have table clothes. Just some kind of wood grained formica top. It also charged extra for the waitress to get our drinks from the bar and bring them to our table. I thought that's what waitresses were supposed to do.; This place is outdated and trying to survive on whatever reputation it once had. Do not waste your money on this place. McD's is next door, Burger King across the street. Both offer better food. Not great food, just better than this place. read more

Made dinner reservation's for easter, my mom & myself she is 91 & they made us walk up the steps & seated us @ the back table which was more walking for her instead of seating us @ a handicapped table. There was no menu, after we ordered our drinks 2 minutes later the waitress who someone told me was the owner's daughter brought out 2 platters of food with dried out ham, super dry turkey breast slices, stove top stuffing, & makeshift mashed potatoes.It was all cold by the way, i had to ask for gravy to try & make the turkey digestible but that didn't help much. Dinner was $14.95 pp drinks or dessert not included & for a holiday that's a good price but i couldn't eat & when i left i went thru McDonald's drive thru next door & was happier with that.
