I have eaten here several times since the change of ownership. Every time the food and service have been very good. Today I had two shredded beef tacos. The tacos had a good amount of tasty shredded beef, plenty of cheese and fresh lettuce and tomatoes. They were very good. You place your order at the counter and the food is served to you at the table on ceramic plates. It's a nice touch for a taco shop and I appreciate the reduced paper waste. There is also a salsa bar with serval varieties of salsa, plus pickled carrots, onions and peppers. Prices are reasonable. Parking is paid street parking. read more

I was introduced to this place back in 2011 when it was "El Cuevo". Loved there tacos. In 2016 I moved out of dwntwn. I now moved back and was craving some tacos. However, it was sold and is now the Palomino. I was very hesitant to try but, i was already there so, I ordered a Carne Asada Burrito and WOW !!!! Love this place! Ordered catering for an outdoor birthday party and everything was so good. The food was delicious and packed with perfection. Our guests loved the carne asada, pollo asado and bean and cheese burritos! The kids crushed the cheese quesadillas we ordered for them. I had a pretty good breakfast burrito from Palominos. I had the ham, egg, cheese, and potato breakfast burrito for $10 and some change. The burrito was of a good medium size. The eggs came lightly seasoned and the ham chopped into strips. The potatoes should have been chopped into smaller pieces. The burrito did feel a little heavy on the potatoes. The burrito came on a good quality flour tortilla. I tried a couple of red hot sauces from the salsa bar. The mild one had good flavor and a subtle heat, and the deep red one's flavor was one dimensional and very hot. The service at the counter was good. The gentlemen participated in friendly small talk. The place looks average inside. It definitely needs a face lift, but it works. read more

Palomino's is a restaurant taco shop experience that goes above and beyond your standard taquería. Beatriz was extremely helpful when I was looking for parking in the area. She even came outside and directed me where to park! Then, when I ordered, she brought me ice water and utensils, which is not common for most taco shops in San Diego. Beatriz definitely made the experience much more welcoming. The Carne Asada Torta was next level! The tomato cream spread was a unique twist on a classic item. The avocado salsa and pickled onions from the salsa bar made this the best Mexican sandwich that I have ever had in my life. This is coming from a native San Diegan... The shoestring fries were seasoned perfectly, and the table is equipped with a bottle of ketchup. The salsa bar has a wide variety of salsas, hot carrots, jalapeños, and pickled vegetables. This is a step above even the best salsa bars in the city. The free tortilla chips was yet another pleasant added accoutrement. I stopped by here for lunch on a Tuesday with a group of four. We were greeted by delicious smells upon walking into the restaurant. I noticed the large menu and almost all of the tables filled with people eating delicious plates of meat, vegetables, rice, tacos, burritos, and soups. They have a self-serve salsa bar with about 6 different salsas, limes, and carrots and jalapeños. I decided to try their California Burrito and took it to-go. One of the employees brought the food out to us when it was ready. Service was great and friendly. The burrito was huge and SO delicious! The carne asada was perfectly seasoned and tender, the fries were crispy, and the cheese was perfectly melted. The prices are also very fair and I would recommend bringing cash as you will avoid credit card fees that way. Palomino's is now one of my go-to spots and a restaurant I would highly recommend checking out! read more

I saw their sign for fish tacos at $2.99 each today. My fiance joined me and got the ceviche. Both dishes were very good. I was really impressed with the pico de gallo, it was so fresh I could taste the onions and tomatoes and cilantro and they could have been freshly picked they were all so fresh and tasty. Anytime a taco shop has stayed open for a few years, you know it's good. We were not disappointed. I walked out of there on cloud 9 after having those tacos. read more

Tried this place in my hunt for the best breakfast burritos and I gotta say I was surprised at how good it was. Better than a lot of other places honestly. I got an egg sausage and bean burrito. The beans had a lot of flavor and they put in a good amount of sausage. The tortilla was also very fresh. I will for sure be coming back here. My only negative feedback is that the salsas weren't very good. They were decent but not great and weren't spicy. The green sauce was good tho. read more

This is a little hole in the wall place. When you first walk in, there is not any indication of much expectation. I was pleasantly surprised. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Great customer service. They even offer wait service to the table. They have two billboards that sit at the entrance of the storefront advertising the specials of the day. Be sure to check them out. They have some great deals. The food is posted above the order counter for easy access. Everything is very clearly marked, which is a welcome change. The pricing is most reasonable and you get healthy servings for your money. Most importantly, the quality and taste of the food makes this place worth a visit. On our visit, we had the mini tacos, one of carnitas and the other one of carne asada. Very healthy portions and very well seasoned food. It was perfect, in fact, the portions were so large. You could take the second tortilla and make an order of two into an order of four and have quite a nice meal. At $2.75 each, this was an amazing deal and definitely worth the visit. We also had a plate of the of the daily special, which was 3 rolled beef tacos with guacamole, lettuce and sour cream, a side of rice and beans with the Coke for 1299. The rolled tacos were very tasty and crunchy. On the inside was delicious shredded beef filling. The the rice was nice and fluffy and well seasoned, and the beans were thick and creamy, not soupy and watered down. Both sides were given in healthy portions. The salsa bar had a nice variety and was set up so that it was very easy to access. I recommend trying the jalapeno and carrots. They were spot on. This full meal costs as much as a burger at some places. These days, if you're economy conscious, this is the place to go. If you like good mexican food, this is the place to go. The reason it only gets 4 stars is because of the ambiance. If that doesn't concern you, you will be very impressed with the food the service and the parking.
