Puppusas for breakfast and fried plantains and my favorite coconut water.

I found this place while going home from work early. On a rainy day. I was taking a different route since I knew the highway would be packed. So the streets was the better choice. And I get to look around. So that's how I ran into Panaderia Salvadorena. I called my mom and asked her "what should I get there"? Because growing up, I really don't recall eating a lot of El Salvadorian deserts. But since it was down pouring-rain. I opted to stay in the area get a snack and avoid the bad drivers in the rain. Talked to my mom. And she recommended quesadilla. Ok. First of all it's not like the Mexican quesadillas. It's not made with tortillas or anything of the sort. It's a cheese cake type of baked good. Just not as thick. About an thick. So I walked in knowing what I wanted. But what I got was different. As I walked in I was immediately greeted from the 2 ladies working. Also the 2 other people sitting on a table eating. As I walked in saw a lot of Salvadoran artifacts on the walls. Posters and signs. As I stepped to the counter. I could see all the baked goods through the windows. There were many that looked like Mexican pastries. And some others that I have never seen. What caught my eye was the bread pudding. If anyone knows me. Knows I love bread pudding. So I had to try it. Not your typical bread pudding. A bit more dense. But yet moist. I actually didn't eat till that night. And it was morning. I did tell them it was to go. Due to that I had seen them making puppusas. So this place was making Puppusas early in the morning. And I love Puppusas. So quickly I went from getting a snack to ordering food. I got 2. One of chicharon with cheese. One of bean and cheese. Since I saw the fried plantains. I had her add some on my plate. She also put some crema which is like sour cream. But not sour. I then went and got coconut water out of the cooler. Which happens to be my favorite coconut water. The one in a can with a parrot on it. As I sat down and ate my food. A couple other people came in and ordered. They sat down and are also. Everyone greeted each other. This place was very friendly. I found out by speaking to people there. That this place opens at 5am. And people come by and get stuff for breakfast or their lunch to go. They have parking in the back of the bakery. Which I didn't know. And I parked across the street and paid at a meter. Which is also across the street from a school. It's Downtown Los Angeles, be happy there is parking. I believe they said they closed at 830 or 9pm. Either way it's a nice place for a snack or even a meal. Now this is not fine dining. Though it is great eating. And a great place to try something El Salvadorian.

I love this panaderia. It reminds me of the OG Salvadorian panaderias I'd go to in Pico-Union and in Hollywood in the 1980's. This panaderia has all the classics in terms of pan and I am a fan of their $9 breakfast/desayuno which gets you eggs, beans, platanos, pan frances, and sour cream. A lot of food for $. The ladies who work here are super friendly and I enjoy the ambiance of locals getting their daily coffee, bread, and breakfast. It also has free parking in the back. LA needs more affordable places like this.

Great shop with a solid selection of pastries. The store has other things at a good value too, like agua frescas. It'll be a staple for me.

This place is much more panaderia than pupuseria. They seat only 8. They make the pupusas ahead of time and when I arrived at 1PM there were only four left. They were fine, nothin' to write home about. I said that I like curtido and the gal gave me two of the tiniest bags imaginable. Perfectly fine...but unremarkable. Maybe the baked goods are better.

Chock banana and it was great.

Here's a helpful tip: The bank next door allows 10 minutes of parking if you use their ATM and keep your receipt. There is security in the lot, so be sure to have your receipt as proof of the time. It's more than enough time to run next door and grab your treats. I ordered a slice of the lemon loaf, a gluten-free cookie, and the classic chocolate chip cookie. The lemon loaf slice is huge, I'd say it's the equivalent of two slices, so it's definitely big enough to share. As for the cookies, Levain is known for making them thick and rich. A small piece goes a long way, making them perfect for savoring over a couple of days (if you have that much self-control!). The moment you walk inside, you're greeted by the incredible aroma of freshly baked pastries, and the service was warm and welcoming. I truly think everyone should experience a Levain cookie or pastry at least once. It's worth the visit!

But let me tell you... the oatmeal cookie is on another level. It's rich, buttery, and packed with so much aroma. The chocolate chip cookie was rich and crispy. Pro tip: microwave it for at least 30 seconds. It completely transforms the cookie--warm, melty, and almost like it just came fresh out of the oven. The oats were warm and satisfying. Definitely one of the best cookies I've had in LA. Worth the hype!

The ham is rolled up and in the center of the croissant, so make sure you bite into it lengthwise to get the ham and cheese all together. Fantastically savory!!! Elderflower Rhubarb: Not as sweet as it appears to be!! Delicious--the elderflower notes come through as you chew, and the ratio of jam to bread is generous. Chocolate Hazelnut Pain au Suisse: Tasty, chocolatey, and hazelnut flavors throughout. Feels like a refined Ferrier Rocher wrapped in bread. Definitely needed water alongside this one because it's quite rich! This was a fun spot to try, and the vibes are beautiful, cozy, and quiet on a weekend morning! All three croissants had an insanely layered bite and excellent crunch/crisp. A bit pricey, but a fun place to try if you're in the mood for nice bread!

The key is to go on a weekday to avoid the line, as the weekend can definitely get busy. This last time I finally got to try the tofu cream topped croissant, which was ~to die for~. It was a little bit savory with the miso but still (not too) sweet. This felt super original and I would definitely recommend. I also tried the pistachio croissant and asparagus danish this time round and both were extremely good as well. I would have no qualms with re-ordering either. The only note is the pistachio cream is pretty runny, so it's hard to cut and share, as the cream just oozes out. The workers there are super friendly and kind. The drinks are also very good if you're looking to get a little extra treat as well.

You turn right after you walk in, and there it is, tucked away in a quiet corner. I almost missed it but I am so glad I didn't! The place feels super cute inside. They have this cozy little setup with natural lighting and wooden decor. The seating space is tiny with a small amount of seats ,so depending on the traffic you might have to grab your stuff and go. But that I think is what makes it special. Prices feel reasonable for what you get. They highlight using Hokkaido flour in their items with no preservatives, so it will only last about 2 days. I scanned for what was left since I went around 3pm where most of the items were already sold out. I chose the salt and butter bread since it looked fresh and simple. The crust has this nice crisp bite and the inside stayed soft and fluffy! High quality all around. After tax, it came out to be about $4, pretty good for what you get. Even thought it was near closing time, the staff was really friendly. They smiled as they took my order and answered all my questions I had about the menu. That's how I found out about their flour! It felt welcoming as I did not feel like I was just a customer, but a friend. If you're in the area I defintely recommend checking them out! They have many locations from Anaheim, Honolulu to Little Tokyo. The whole experience just hits the spot. Nothing complicated, but solid baked goods in a nice setting.

I got a sausage bbang, a chocopie, and a dalgona latte. The sausage bbang was soggy on the bottom and honestly tasted like it was from the day before. The chocopie barely had any filling, just a thin layer of marshmallow and jam. It honestly felt like they used most of the marshmallow for their Dubai choco cookie because it's probably more profitable, instead of properly filling the chocopie. If that's the case, it's better not to sell it at all than serve something like that. The dalgona latte was also disappointing. With ice, the drink only filled to the bottom third line of the cup marking. Clearly, they skimped on the milk. There was also a weird moment when I paid. My total was $15.25 and I paid cash, but I was given $4.75 in change. When I said it should be $5, she seemed confused and asked what I meant. I told her I literally gave you a quarter right now, and she questioned it before eventually giving me the correct change. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a mistake. I understand times are hard, but charging more for products that clearly had corners cut doesn't sit right with me. It just comes across like there's no integrity. Clearly the quality and portions are going downhill. I wasn't even planning on writing this review. I was going to stay quiet, but the chocopie really ticked me off. I'm not going to pay for food that skims on ingredients and shortchanges customers by charging more for less, so this will be my last visit.
