Excellent! I decided to try out Panbury's after being disappointed by the other food options at the Municipal Market. At first I was hesitant because it looked as though the pies had been sitting out and may have been dried out and old. But thankfully I couldn't have been more wrong. My food was excellent! So good I went two days in a row. The first day I tried their Beef Bourguignon pot pie and tomato bisque. The pot pie was hot, flaky and buttery and the beef filling was flavorful and tender. The tomato bisque was perfect, nice texture and a perfect balance between acid and cream. The next day I ordered the Chicken pot pie and the tomato bisque and again just as hot, flaky and delicious. Service is straightforward you order at the counter and get your food to go. Aside from the market Panbury's gives a simple minimalist ambiance. There's no place to sit directly at Panbury's, but there are plenty of tables around the market. I will definitely be back! read more

This review is long over due . I'm visit this establishment a few times throughout the year & the quality and freshness is always the same . I typically order a steak and stout pie or the chicken and mushroom pie . I recently tried the veggie Thai and I was impressed . Who doesn't love small hand pies and pastries?? They are located inside Municipal Market in Downtown Atlanta, along with a bunch of other international food stands and fresh markets. When I stopped in, it was later in the day so they were closing soon and out of a lot of their flavors so I was limited in my selection, but they were super friendly and knowledgeable and even gave me a small discount since I purchased several pies. I was super excited to try their Tikka Masala pie - stuffed with tender shredded chicken baked in a mild, yet flavorful tikka masala sauce, encased in a flaky pastry. This could feed 2 people with a side salad or 1 super hungry human. :) I thought I ended up with their breakfast pie but it was actually their country chicken pie - more shredded chicken, savory gravy, and some veggies, along with herbs and spices. I finished with a tiny blueberry pie and this was a 2-bit pie - tart blueberries bursting with flavor and a sugar crust just added a nice crunch to the pie. I returned, because I wanted to try other pies that were not in stock during my first visit. Since this was my breakfast for my last day in Atlanta, I was happy to find all their flavors were in stock and didn't hesitate to pick up the savory chicken sausage roll and beef patty. The sausage roll was super flavorful and juicy and wrapped in a buttery and flaky puff pastry. The beef patty was stuffed with savory and spiced ground beef (similar to a Jamaican beef patty) in a flavored pastry dough. (apparently it's curry-flavor). What a great way to start the morning!! I was jealous because they looked so good and he had a ton of different flavors, but I am gluten-free, hence the drolling. I kept telling my husband to order that one, order that one, because they all sounded so good. When I told the staff I was gluten-free he told me that he had one for me. REALLY!!!! YEAH!!! These are the kind of pies to warm your soul on a crisp Fall day. We got six pies delivered via Goldbelly and took them with us to a cabin in the woods. We didn't have any eggs to brush the tops with, but what emerged from the oven was still absolutely delicious. The crust so flaky with that slight crumble. I was truly surprised by how juicy the filling was given that the pies did not have a soggy bottom. We got the steak and stout, chicken and mushroom and southern breakfast. Ordered their 12 pack double-crusted pies (6 flavors) from Goldbelly and had it shipped to Florida. They came packed with dry ice and were frozen when I opened it. Really pleased with the quality of their pies and flavor!! They do not skimp and the ratio of filling to pie crust is on point. My favorites are the chicken-based ones and the spinach and feta. Sooo good!! Each pie is about 5" x 3" and about 1" thick. Perfect for an individual pie serving. It takes about 40 minutes to bake and works best with an eggwash, but really worth it! Yum! Ordered 6 pies(Steak and Stout, Country Chicken, and Spinach and Feta- 2 each) on GoldBelly in April of 2021. The pies showed up in dry ice and still frozen. They take approximately 40 minutes in the oven but come out flaky and delicious. We shared 3 at a time along with salad for our meals. Shelf life is 6 months in the freezer. Every once in a while, I'll have a layover in Atlanta during my travels... and when that layover is timed well (meaning a couple hours long and in the morning or early afternoon), I'll head to the Sweet Auburn Curb Market and get my fix of deliciousness from Panbury's. These hand pies are a traditional British street food with South African influence. This is actually the kind of food I wish I had been able to find when in South Africa a couple years ago, so I was delighted to find it randomly while traveling. (With many thanks to Yelp, since I found this location while checking out options on the app.) Whenever I arrive at Panbury's, I like to see if there are any special or seasonal offerings first... but the steak & stout and chicken & mushroom hand pies are without a doubt my go-to choices if there's not something new that strikes my fancy. The crusts for these pies is always buttery and flaky, and I highly recommend holding these pies in your hands to eat them. I've never been disappointed with these hand pies... and the additional menu items like the kale salad or sausage rolls? Always great at appeasing a craving. Now... I was looking through emails recently and came across flight details for the trip I was taking at the end of this April through the end of May. The trip would have included a stop in Atlanta on the way back home... and I'm sure I would have taken a jaunt from the airport to head to Curb Market for my stop at Panbury's. As you can imagine, COVID-19 meant canceling my travel plans entirely. The fantastic news? I can still get my Panbury's fix! I really could sum this review up in 2 words.. soooo good. I tried the country chicken pie and it was great it reminds me of my homemade chicken pot pie. I enjoyed the flaky crust and the filling was seasoned well with a nice gravy. There were so many great options, I just stared at the menu trying to decide on just one. I can't wait to try more! Panbury's is located inside Municipal Market. You walk up and order at the counter and take your food to go. I do not believe there are any areas to sit down at eat at this time. There were just a few outdoor areas but that was it which is fine. You are required to wear a mask to enter and hand sanitizer is provided throughout. The staff were bubbly and helpful. One night I was on GoldBelly and I came across this place. So I figured what the heck I'll support a local restaurant 3,000 miles away. I ordered 12 pies for $109 with free shipping. I finally came today!!! I was very impressed on how the packaging was. It was still completely frozen and well intact. I can't wait to try some tonight for dinner. These are extremely tasty. I got the 18 pack with various varieties of the savory and sweet pies on goldbelly. They got here really fast. The crust is the absolute perfect crust. So light and crispy/flaky. I don't like a really buttery crust that's greasy to the touch. From the crust to the filling, everything was perfectly balanced and flavorful. Their apple pie reminded me of a Jamaican coconut pie. The apple was shredded like the shredded coconut and the spiced filling tasted very similar. The crust was almost similar, but the only difference was the coconut pie is open faced. I loved that pie as a kid so was very pleasantly surprised. But every single one was delicious. Cajun gumbo pie: Very dry! If you're going to call it gumbo then make it at least taste like gumbo. Definitely over cooked! 2. Jamaican beef patty. Not even close! Texture was wrong and the taste is no where bear a Jamaican patty. What an insult to Jamaica. 3. Tomato basil bisque: Only thing really worth anything in this list. Being from Hong Kong, my mom and I occasionally reminisce about eating pies due to British influence on the city's food culture. After a quick Yelp search of British food, Panbury's was the place that appealed to us the most. Panbury's is located inside the Sweet Auburn Market and there is a small parking lot in the back. Parking is validated for an hour - there's a self-service validation machine inside. We went around 3 pm on a weekday, so there was no trouble finding a parking spot. Panbury's was very easy to spot inside and has a small seating area reserved for its customers. I ordered the traditional steak and stout pie. The crust was harder than I would have liked, but still good nonetheless. The steak inside was tender, and the rest of the filling exceeded my expectations. It definitely brought back memories of eating good pies off from pie shops in Hong Kong. The staff at Panbury's was extremely helpful and genuinely friendly when we ordered. I'm also glad that the drinks were very reasonable priced. Soda was only $1 a can (compared to some places that ridiculously charge $2.50 a can). They also have homemade lemonade although we didn't try it. The only downside to Panbury's was that they didn't have mash potatoes! I would love to have pie and mash again, especially since I still dream about an awesome pie and mash I had at a cute restaurant in London. Maybe I'm asking too much though. Hahaha! read more

I've ordered Panbury's pies using a delivery service, and I recently (and finally!) went to the market to buy my pies in person. My favorite item is the chicken sausage roll which is the perfect size for lunch when paired with a small salad. My favorite salad is the kale salad which is tossed with just the right amount of salad dressing - not too wet but enough to make the kale tender and flavorful. I tried a full sized pie on this visit. They had a special Thanksgiving dinner pie with turkey, dressing and veggies which was served with a side of cranberry sauce. It was oh-so-yummy. I never tire of turkey and dressing and this was a nice pairing in the pie. And as usual, the crust was perfectly golden and deliciously buttery and flaky. I've had the mini apple pie a few times, but this time I also had the mini-cherry pie. I love these mini pies. They are the perfect 3-4 bite serving. I don't feel like I've blown my diet for the week eating these, and they taste so good. When someone asked me what Panbury's served, I told them to imagine a pot pie made in a 5 star restaurant because that's what I think they are. read more

The place was clean and Lauren and Adam were so polite and patience when my husband and I could not figure out what to order. Yes, you may face the dilemma when you go there. Hands down my favorite place in the Sweet Auburn Market. They make delicious pastries and meat pies that will fill you up for lunch. Anytime I go to the market I always start by seeing if they have tomato soup available. If they do - go for it! It's Homemade and delicious. That with the kale Caesar is a delicious lunch. Panbury's Double Crust Pies is a meat pie shop that opened inside the Sweet Auburn Curb Market in April 2014. The shop was inspired by co-owners Adam and Lauren's South African roots, where these types of pies are the norm. In Atlanta, this concept is more unique. While there are several restaurants in the metro area that serve meat pies (Australian Bakery Cafe in Marietta comes to mind), I think Panbury's is the first to specialize and serve them in the city. The shop has one of the more elaborate and attractive storefronts inside the Curb Market. The space looks modern, clean, and inviting. The shop has its own seating area with four small tables in addition to some counter seating which faces a window into the kitchen. The ordering counter has two shiny, well lit, glass display cases containing the latest day's batches of pies, rolls, and foldovers. Behind the counter is a fancy Turbofan oven where you can often see (and smell) new pies being baked. About eight different kinds of savory pies are offered. "Savory" meaning these aren't traditional sweet dessert pies (though they sell those too). For anywhere from $6-8, you can get a warm and scrumptious pie. One pie is good enough to fill you up. As Lauren might tell you, the best way to eat one of these pies is with your hands. "Instructions" are also printed on the menu. Peel back the foil and take a bite, much like you would with a hamburger. The fork and knife approach is much more difficult. While meat pies have been around for centuries in Europe, Australia, and South Africa, Adam and Lauren have added some interesting recipe variations to their menu. Examples include a Southern Breakfast Pie with eggs, chicken sausage, and maple syrup, a Cajun Chicken Gumbo Pie with chicken, andouille sausage, and Cajun spices, and a Cracked-Black-Pepper Steak Pie made with slow-braised beef shoulder and gravy. I've tried a few pies so far and have really enjoyed them. They include: Steak & Stout Pie Chicken & Mushroom Pie Green Thai Chicken Curry Pie The Steak & Stout Pie is like a classic British pie. It's made with beef, onions, cremini mushrooms, rosemary, thyme, and Guinness beer. It's a hearty, wholesome pie, the kind that "sticks to your ribs." Flavorful and satisfying. The comforting Chicken & Mushroom Pie is my favorite so far. It's made with chicken, cremini mushrooms, white pepper, herbs, and a cream sauce. It's kind of like a cream of chicken and mushroom soup, but in pie form. I want another one just thinking about it. The Green Thai Chicken Curry Pie is surprisingly good. I'm sometimes skeptical of Thai twists to Western food, but Panbury's pulls off the Thai flavors rather authentically. This pie is made with chicken, mushrooms, cilantro, lime, green onion, chilis, and coconut cream. It tastes just like Thai green curry. The chilis used are actual Thai bird's eye chilis, so this pie is spicy. A common feature of all the pies I've tried here is the delectable, flaky, and buttery pastry crust. They've seemed to have perfected it. In my opinion, the best parts of the crust are the harder, outer edges that have been cooked against the foil. Delicious. In addition to Panbury's pies, I've tried their sides: mashed potatoes and beef gravy and kale salad with cranberries, almonds, Parmesan cheese, and lemon vinaigrette. The sides are OK. The meat pies are where it's at. Other foods offered include mini pies, chicken sausage and pork sausage rolls, and sweet pies and foldovers including apple, blueberry, and peach. Until the business expands (which is in the works), you will most likely encounter Adam and/or Lauren during your visit. They are both very nice and friendly. Excellent service! If entering the Curb Market from the parking lot, walk straight to the back and Panbury's will be just to your right. The business validates parking for up to one hour. Truth be told we ordered their pies via Goldbelly because a friend of ours who lives in ALT said they were amazing. And boy were they right! We got the Pepper Steak Pie, the Country Chicken Pie, and the Cottage Pie. All were very good. The Pepper Steak had some very fatty pieces however and that was disappointing. The Cottage pies meat had absolutely no fatty bits which was a plus and the potatoes on top were amazing! The Chicken Pie was very very good if not a little heavy on the celery. I've had several of the chicken varieties, all delicious. My husband is vegetarian and loves the Thai Veggie Curry. He'd love to see more meatless options. I had the Chicken and Mushroom tonight. We are now buying fresh-out-of-the-oven pies when we go to the market and bringing home a half dozen frozen. They cook beautifully. I recommend Panbury's and suggest stocking up on frozen pies, too, as they are a quick and filling dinner -- although the baking time is 40 minutes.
