First time in Lubbock, this place was awesome! The country fried steak was really good and Mike gave us great service

It is what it is. A old time breakfast eatery. Food is consistent, service is good as well. Just another place to eat.

Sitting at the counter next to some good old boys that were regulars, I thought about how I ate so many breakfasts with the best pancakes here many times 30+ years ago as a road warrior with my room at the budget motel right across the street. Unlike today, motels didn't give free breakfasts in the 1980s, sometimes just bad coffee. That motel has been updated several times since my first visit however The Pancake House decor and its pine paneling is timeless. (circa 1965). The decor hasn't changed since my last visit in 1993, however I must say the food was better than I ever remembered. This impression could be due to many present day chain eateries serving pre-cooked or pre-prepared portions from a national food service rather than the home style scratch cooking served here. What else would you want to order for lunch while in Lubbock, Texas home of Texas Tech and Buddy Holley but a chicken fried steak? Served with sweet buttered corn, garlic & onion green beans, a generous portion of breaded and fried beef cutlet and plus a dollop of mashed potatoes and half the plate covered in brown gravy. A fresh homemade roll and a sample of chocolate frosted yellow cake was on the side just in case I needed or craved more carbs! Service was attentive with a smile as my sugar free Dr. Pepper was topped off several times by a cute young thing that knew almost everyone she waited on. While paying my hand written check, I thanked the cashier for accepting my corporate supplied American Express card because not all restaurants do (and must if they want any of my business) walking out the door with a satisfied smile knowing I ate especially well today but now needed a nap!. read more

Dang. Guys. You have choices for breakfast, but this is the place you want to go. Let's start with the coffee. Small cup, perfect size to keep it just hot enough before you drain it. Waitresses who call you honey will regularly glide by, ready to refill. We each drank 6-7 cups and were offered to-go cups if we wanted them. It's the perfect diner coffee, and they are glad to keep your cup full. Next, the menu. There are three pages - it's that simple. They're open through lunch and serve all menu items the entire time. If you want limitless possibilities with hundreds of combos listed, head out to another place. This joint knows how to offer straightforward, delicious classics and some of their own amazing dishes. The back page has their signature breakfast items. The We ordered the cow patty cinnamon roll and it was magical. Came out looking like an oversized honey bun and it came with this perfect, buttery, sweet icing to pour on top. It was great. I got the Huevos Rancheros, and with a little salt added on top, it was amazing. Very filling, didn't come close to finishing it. And let's not miss out on describing the ambience. This has a homey, local vibe that is full of pictures of regular customers all over the walls. Where other places stock their restaurants with the same old decorations, Pancake House has curated a collection of decorations that make the place feel like a cozy home in West Texas. It's full of waitresses calling you honey and old men reading the paper and moms and little girls snacking on oversized pancakes. Pancake House is the breakfast place you've been wanting every other breakfast place to be. It's clean, they've got a happy staff, and their food is the bomb. Try it! read more

We stopped here last Saturday morning on the way to NM/AZ/UT. Weren't really all that hungry, so ordered (natch) pancakes, a couple of eggs over easy, some bacon and hash browns. Mumsie had her usual omelet, which she did not finish, and our dog would not touch. Seriously. Our pup took a sniff and looked at me like "you gotta be kidding". The eggs, bacon, and hashies were edible. The pancakes were hard like cardboard, obviously from a mix, and not really "homemade" per se... SO...for a place that calls itself, "Pancake House", they may want to brush up on their namesake. Price was reasonable, and service was very friendly. However, doesn't make up for the raunchy pancakes and greased omelet. The rest of the menu was standard West Texas fare (CFS, Fried Chicken, Hamburgers, etc..) Decor was my aunt Alibel's kitchen from the 1970's, with photos of local's eating in the restaurant all over the walls. Won't go back. read more

Seated immediately even though it was a Saturday morning at 10 am. Buttermilk pancakes are the best I've ever had! Eggs cooked the way you like them. Biscuits and gravy (gravy had no meat) are sooo good. Service is quick and courteous. We never ran out of water or coffee. read more

Great breakfast. Slightly pricier than the other breakfast places, but worth it. Eggs cooked perfectly. Waitress recommendations were phenomenal. Wait was not protracted despite it being Sunday morning. Waitress did phenomenal despite also having a party of 16. Reminds me of cafes where farmers would have coffee all day when I was growing up. Bonus points for the southern hospitality and charm. read more

I don't give 5 star ratings usually, however this place deserves it. Great breakfast "comfort" food! Sweet potato pancakes and waffles were excellent, eggs made perfect to order, biscuits and gravy made to southern perfection. Only criticism is the wait...and that's just because they were so busy our waiter took a bit longer to get to us. Highly recommend coming here when you want classic breakfast favorites! read more

Not sure what all the negativity is about. We ate here for breakfast today and enjoyed it. The atmosphere was a normal breakfast environment. I had the sweet potato pancakes and a side of bacon. I must say I am a sweet potato lover so I was not disappointed one bit. They were moist and delicious! You could eat it with or without butter and syrup. The side of bacon was perfectly crispy, not undercooked or overdone. No complaints on the coffee either. I would recommend this place if asked. The food was good and the prices average. read more

I am a fan. Great spot across the street from the hotel. Why would you go to Dennys when this is across the street? Friendly family run atmosphere, where you are called 'honey' and your coffee cup is always full. Diner fare with trucker specials and good food. Eat there and DO NOT go to Dennys! read more

I am really not sure why this place was rated as good as it is. The food below average and the coffee was absolutely terrible. Thinking it was a just a bad pot of coffee we requested another and the second was equally as bad. The service was adequate but the food and drink was not up to par. I'm in Lubbock for work I'm from WV and travel constantly for my job. I've ate at alot of restaurants that claim home cookin'. However this place claim is down right the spittin' truth now. Always friendly, consistent and fast. My favorite breakfast spot when I visit Lubbock.

Came here after a morning run to get refueled for the day. The facility is nice with a good amount of seating area. Everything was clean and my friend and I were seated in a timely manner. Our food came out hot and quickly. I ordered the Hungry Boy Breakfast for 8.99 and received a good portion of bacon, sausage, eggs, hash browns, and two pancakes. Loved every bite of it. Although a bit more expensive than other chain restaurants, Pancake House is a winner in my book because of the wonderful service, excellent quality of food, and that hometown feel you can't beat. read more

Sunday afternoon was super busy yet we didn't wait long thanks to the quick table turnover. Our server was awesome: proficient and friendly. I ordered a sweet potato waffle with pecans and a syrup that came with it. It was the best flavor combination ever. Coffee was on the stronger side which I like. My kids both had pancakes which were fluffy, stacks of pillowy goodness. The Pancake House is a neighborhood gem and I'll definitely be eating there again when traveling to Lubbock. read more

Great home made cooking, it made me feel as a mom like someone was doing all the cooking for me instead of me doing all the cooking and cleaning. It was a good feeling.. I was crowded but only had pike a 5 min. Wait and did not have an 8impact on the Great Service and the SMILE on Our Waitress face even tho she was so busy she was great even took time to give kids stickers and magnets to play with while they waited on there meals. We are visiting our kids and grandchildren and stopped in for breakfast. The food was good, but our waitress Andrea was AMAZING! She gave our grandsons magnets to play with until we got our food. This is an absolute favorite of mine. I go between the steak fingers and the cheeseburger. Their breakfast is amazing, and their chef salads are huge. Andrea is an angel, the whole team is amazing. She will likely remember your order for next time it's very impressive. We go there so often they are like family but even if we didn't they would treat you that way. It's a Jesus filled place and Andrea is again I say an angel. We love her, but even when she is off for that day we receive nothing but the best service. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! read more

We were visiting Lubbock and went to Pancake House based on Yelp reviews. I thoroughly expected the pancakes to be done well because of the name of the restaurant and the reviews. While the eggs, bacon, and hash browns were done very well, the pancakes were not. They were hard and tasteless. They seems to been the frozen variety that were warmed up in the kitchen. It was very disappointing. The staff and service was great and friendly but we won't be returning based on that. Most breakfast and brunch places can turn out eggs and bacon but they need to distinguish themselves with their items that require more skill to make. Pancakes don't even require that much skill but they do need a good recipe. A place called the Pancake House should've knocked their pancakes out of the park. They didn't even make it to the stadium. read more
