I want to be fair with this review as I have been to Pancake in LB several times (unfortunately today will be the last). My previous ~5 experiences have been relatively good. Breakfast is a solid "B". The reason I tend to like Pancake is due to it not being busy and I have young kids and the food is good (not great, but good). With that said, I had the worst experience on 1/4/25 at 8:00am. We were the only 4 people in the restaurant. We ordered within 10 minutes of sitting down, all simple things, breakfast burrito, two eggs, and pancakes. After 45 minutes the food was still not out, never-mind we were still the only people in the restaurant. I went up to the waitress and nicely asked to put it in a to-go box as it was taking forever and my 1 and 2 yr old were getting very impatient. The food finally came out after almost one hour. At this point there was only one other group of four in the restaurant. If I were a restaurant owner and this happened, I would at a minimum say "sorry for the wait" and maybe even credit one of the meals, potentially credit everything. It was so uncomfortable and unfortunate bc nothing was done on the restaurant's behalf to apologize. Instead I got a bag of food (which I paid for) to take home and reheat in the microwave. As far as the food today, you can judge by the pictures, chocolate chip pancakes were very underwhelming (given the name of the restaurant is PANCAKE), eggs were extremely overcooked, fruit was mediocre at best. The breakfast burrito was good. I probably won't return here for the simple fact they didn't take accountability for what happened today. A manager should have noticed (given we were 1 of 2 tables in the entire restaurant) and should have done something. In all fairness the waitress was nice, I don't think it was her fault but someone really messed up this morning. I would recommend giving this place a shot and judge for yourself. Hopefully you have a better experience similar to the other times I have been here. read more

When we rolled up we honestly thought it was closed lol. I didn't even know if I was in the right place but going in, we were greeted right away and seated. There was only 1 other party there eating and another party drinking so we didn't think it would take long. Unfortunately it did but they are still in the learning phase so it is completely understandable. Looking at the picture of the waffle that I provided, you can clearly see the quality of food that they are providing here. Everything we tried was amazing. Hands down, my favorite biscuits and gravy ever! The gravy was so flavorful with chunks of sausage and parsley enveloped in buttermilk gravy that blanketed the biscuits on my plate so elegantly that no wonder this is a restaurant of a Michelin star chef! We came here on Valentine's day, 2/14/2025, around 9 am and we were happy to be the first customers of the day. The place was so romantic, beautifully decorated for Valentine's with helium filled heart shaped metallic balloons that covered the ceiling and provided the ambiance of love and romance. Our server was excellent, she managed the customers as well as the decorations with a fantastic smile and poise. My husband had the salmon eggs benedict and we shared the chocolate chip pancakes. Though this place is called Pancake during its breakfast hours, at night it is Cali Chilli, a fusion of Indian and South Asian food. The pancakes were light, airy, and fluffy; very soft yet not much to my liking (half a star off) because I prefer my pancakes with a little more crispy edges to hold up to the syrup; I was more of a fan of the biscuits and gravy. Parking is free, however it can get packed on Viking Way, which has a small strip of parking spaces (quarter star off). The restrooms were clean, there were 2 non-gender specific at the back past the kitchen. The kitchen looked small and had at least 2 cooks preparing the food. The service did get a little slow due to there only being one server who was also the hostess (quarter star off), but she was so nice and welcoming. So if you want to try a local breakfast spot in the Long Beach area that is in a safe area and has reasonable prices, then go to Pancake and enjoy your first meal of the day! read more

Not for me. Ordered basic scrambled eggs and bacon. Eggs are a soft scramble and actually made me nauseated trying to eat. (Imagine texture of mousse but eggs). Potatoes, burnt and salty. You only get one slice of toast. Other person in party describes their pancakes as having an "interesting texture". Service-took a while to get juice and coffee. I really tried liking this place a lot. The 3 star is really because the food was actually pretty good. Maybe needs a bit more upgrading in terms of options but for what they have its actually well made. The service was fine, nothing special, the waitress was helpful and even given a "taste test" option for one of their new items. They are looking to change their sausage option basically and the new option definitely tasted better. The ambiance is a bit confusing I will say, it has a full bar, yes like full full bar but they serve no alcohol so I have to believe at night this place turns into a bar? maybe? This is a hidden gem! We came across it on Yelp, but must admit we went in circles and almost gave up but ultimately found it. And I'm so glad we did. The food was amazing! So what I'm thinking they're pancake in the morning and then they switch it up during lunch and dinner? Which is actually brilliant. The avocado toast was delish! well food was good, service was marginal. no one was in the restaurant when we got there around 9:30 on Wednesday. Pancake is in the space for Cali Chili which we have always had good luck with service and food. it took a very time for someone to greet us. There were only a few employees. we were told the chef was working on one order then they could do ours. way to long! our server didn't come back to check on us which is just the opposite of CaliChili in the evening. We waited for about 2 minutes looking at a bartender and waitress conversing. The busser was busy but at least made eye contact. We moved in and the waitress acknowledged our existence. We sat and were relegated to being ignored most of our meal. We watched as the lone waitress was on her phone in the pass and we missing a place setting, and condiments. She lumbered and huffed when we notified her that the busser was made aware of our disposition and had to retrieve our missing items. We watched as she waddled over to the bar area and spoke with the bartender, taking her time to retrieve a place setting for my wife to eat. The busser should be promoted as she moved with conviction and understanding. This review would have been a 4.5 if it weren't for the lone waitress sloshing around, more occupied with her phone than retrieving what's needed for a paying customer. read more

Was confused at first, apparently it's an Indian restaurant for lunch and dinner so if you are not into Indian food - the smell from the Indian dishes linger , there's outdoor seating. I was fine with, when first walked in, it was dim (they did just open). Eventually they turned on the lights. My sister ordered the biscuits and gravy, this is her make or break it breakfast dish. We had a truly disappointing experience. We were seated at a booth that was full of crumbs, we had to dust off the seats ourselves. After that, we sat for 25 minutes with only water served. No one came to take our order until we finally flagged someone down ourselves.When we told the waitress how long we had been waiting, she informed us the kitchen was behind and we'd need to wait another 20-30 minutes for food. At that point, we left without ordering.Between the unclean seating, the lack of service, and the poor communication, this was an extremely frustrating and unacceptable experience. It was a lovely brunch date with my daughter at Pancake today! As far as vegan options, there wasn't much! I ordered the avocado toast and omitted the feta cheese, and I also ordered the Cali ABC fresh-squeezed juice (it was a combo of apple, beetroot and carrot) to drink and for our sides she and I both shared the "potato" (get these instead of the French fries and the hashbrowns-- they are deliciously roasted!) with a side of fresh fruit. She ordered the prosciutto Eggs Benedict and she loved them! She especially enjoyed the bacon-wrapped asparagus on the side. She found the virgin mojito to be a bit lackluster (she said it was supposed to have orange, watermelon and mango and she was delivered something that didn't fit that description but didn't tell me until NOW lol). The service was excellent and so was the music! The restaurant is beautiful and we look forward to coming back for dinner and lunch someday for their Indo-Asian fusion cuisine! This breakfast place becomes a different restaurant after 11:00 AM. Service is courteous, but slow so don't expect a quick meal. (That is why 4 stars). The decor isn't typical for a breakfast place but comfortable. The place is small about 7 indoor tables, outdoor tables, and the bar. No decaf coffee, fortunately I bring some instant. Fresh squeezed orange juice and my husband enjoyed the regular coffee. He had the blueberry pancakes with compote on top and inside the cakes. Be careful if you have nut allergies because the garnish is nuts and seeds. Isn't included in the dish's description.
