We came here twice within a week because the first visit was so good we had to come back. The vibe is very cozy cafe style small seating area, but it fits the atmosphere perfectly. Our first visit was on a Tuesday and we got seated right away. The first thing I noticed was how friendly and attentive the staff was. They kept things moving without making anyone feel rushed. The food came out fast and looked amazing. One of the servers recommended the Hangover Omelet, and it did not disappoint. At one point my pregnant wife accidentally spilled orange juice all over her plate, and what I'm assuming was the manager immediately came over, replaced everything, and made us feel completely comfortable about it. Super welcoming service. We came back the following Monday and it was much busier with a different staff. We had to wait a bit, which was understandable, but the manager that day came across a little cold and seemed bothered that we waited inside instead of outside (we honestly didn't notice any sign). That said, our waitress was fantastic very friendly and attentive. She recommended the weekly special wet breakfast burrito and WOW... it was incredible. Honestly, it should become a permanent menu item because I'd come back just for that. The food here is absolutely worth it and easily 5-star quality. Village Cafe on Viking Way is a quaint, classic diner. A place where you know the food is going to be good when you see that table of retired guys over in the corner solving all of the world's problems over breakfast. The California Omelet that had bacon and Ortega chilies and its delicious. The American breakfast with a nice thick slice of ham is also fantastic. Our friendly server recommended a Big County Skillet. We quickly understood why this was a popular order. The gravy came on the side, and it's great to choose how much to use and it's tasty. This was a neighborhood diner. We chose to eat outside on a beautiful Saturday morning at 11:30 AM. The waitress was absolutely amazing. It was my 1st time eating here. We had a party of 4. The food was good/ not great but good. The breakfast potatoes came out burnt , so we had to send those back. My toast was incorrect. They gave me sourdough instead of white toast. I love Cornbeef hash but the one here wasn't really to my liking. I do not like peppercorn and definitely not in my Cornbeef hash. I also like it with rice, not an option here. It was ok. I'll have to try something else when I go back. Omelette was a 3/5 goo but not great. Pancakes were 4/5. Id come back for that. The cinnamon roll was next level. 6/5, it was that good. Found this place by happy accident. Was being taken out to a birthday lunch and we were supposed to go to Dilly's. Dilly's is closed on Mondays. My friend said let's go to this place a couple of doors down. Lucky for me. We went in and were seated immediately. The bus guy, Rudy took our drink orders. I wanted iced tea and asked if they had any special iced teas. Rudy recommended the peach iced tea and steered me in the right direction. It was very tasty and refreshing. My friend who was taking me out for my birthday lunch was so happy, as was I, to see a beefeater sandwich on the menu. I love a good beefeater, especially if it has Ortega chili on it. One of us ordered a Reuben and one of us ordered the beefeater and we split them. We got coleslaw and french fries for the sides. The sandwiches were delicious although I took most of my Reuben half home just because I was stuffed. My friend didn't like the coleslaw, but I did. It was kind of sweet and I might have tasted a hint of pineapple. My friend noticed that the last cinnamon roll was in the case on the counter. We ordered it. My parents and I went today around 11:45-12ish obviously I understand it's Sunday and it's busy so we didn't mind the wait but the owner or whoever it was kept calling my name but kept saying never mind and sitting parties of two keep in it was just 3 of us. Wanted to try this place because it looked busy most days. Went about noon for a brunch. We were seated quickly at a small table for two in the back. Order was taken within normal time frames, no significant wait. My breakfast omelette and country potatoes arrived and looked basic, no garnishes. My first bite was of the potatoes: barely lukewarm, in fact the second bite almost felt cool in my mouth. Tried the omelette: again it was not hot and the cheese was not melted much. I don't know how long the food sat before delivery to get so cooled off. The atmosphere was like a cheap diner, nothing special. I was disappointed in the food taste and temperature mostly. So many better choices for breakfast menu in Long Beach area. Don't plan to return to the Village Cafe again. read more

What an amazing experience we had at Village Cafe from beginning to end! My husband, 3 toddlers and myself went in and got sat right away. Service was exceptional, food was amazing and the inside of this restaurant was so clean and cute! My husband and I split the Reuben and they were nice enough to split it for us into two separate plates. We also ordered The Duke which was my favorite, you can taste the fresh ingredients and it was full of flavor! For our side we upgraded to French toast and my kids had the 2x2x2 (2 eggs, 2 bacon and 2 blueberry pancakes) we all enjoyed and devoured everything! I was promptly greeted by a smiling-faced woman as I walked into Village Cafe. As I am from out-of-town, I was looking for a different breakfast restaurant on the same street (which was recommended by Yelp) but despite driving up and down I couldn't find it. When I saw VC packed with large tables of customers, I figured it was as good a recommendation for the food! I wasn't wrong! I had the Chicken Verde Skillet (Wednesday special). The chicken was caramelized and juicy, the red and green bell peppers tender, the red onion tasty, the salsa verde savory without burning my mouth and whole avocado slices and sour cream on top complemented it perfectly! Although I am not a bread or potato fan, the fried potatoes were delicious and perfectly tender, and the rye toast was just the right amount of crispy brown. The coffee was coffee and it was hot and plentiful - flavorful when amended appropriately with the International Delight and sweetener provided. I like that the table was abundantly supplied with all the necessaries (utensils, condiments and napkins) to use at my discretion. And the ever present hum of happy patrons lasted throughout my breakfast. I can say with confidence, this is a place I will visit again if I have a chance.
