    Puffy shrimp tacos
    Doreen T.

The atmosphere and decor here is a fun and lively vibe. We parked about a block away down the hill in the city lot by the Strand and walked up, which worked out well for an early dinner since the lot closes at 8 p.m. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, especially since it was our first visit. She offered great recommendations, and we were started off with complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was a bit too spicy for me, so we ordered pico de gallo and guacamole instead. For our mains, we chose the Especial de Cabo which is a shrimp and chicken plate with rice, and the puffy shrimp tacos, which came with rice and beans. The guacamole and the Cabo dish both needed a bit of salt and pepper, as they tasted somewhat bland. We liked the puffy taco shells, but the sauce had a bit too much heat for my taste. In the end, the dishes we ordered was either too bland or too spicy. At least our waitress attentive and they played Dodgers game on the TV screen.

The food here is delicious. I've tried the burrito del mar and the shrimp diabla puffy tacos and both are tasty. The burrito is tender and has a decent amount of shrimp and crab meat inside. The shrimp diabla puffy tacos are flavorful. Although the price is a bit on the higher side, it's worth it. Service is good and the greenery is very relaxing.

    3. Cheese Enchilada and Chile Relleno Combinacion

We ordered the Chili Colorado (beef) and the Cheese Enchilada + Chile Relleno combination. Both dishes were filling and delicious! The house margaritas were also generously sized and tasty! The server was friendly and attentive. We were fortunate to have visited on a Monday night and enjoyed the weekly comedy show. Would definitely repeat the full experience!

Pancho's is great. We go to the one here in Manhattan Beach and also the one on Centinela in Culver City. Both are great. This one is so cute. There is so much to look at inside. It is always clean and can get crowded. I don't know if they take reservations. This time we got food to go and all of it was great. What really stands out is their guacamole. It is thick and loaded with avocado and always fresh. Their tacos are wonderful and there is not a burrito you will not love--but I get the sour cream on the side. Their rice and beans are tasty and they make their own tortillas. To me, that is a big deal. They have a great happy hour. Their margaritas are so good--I order mine without salt, but you do you. The prices are fair for what you get. I think you will be happy here.

The food & ambiance here are great. It looks so beautiful on the inside and feels like you're in Mexico! This is my favorite place to get mole. The salmon was also a hit! Bonus, they serve free chips & salsa!

Pancho's is a Manhattan Beach institution. Typical "SoCal" Mexican food, it was a great moment to reconnect with old friends over margaritas, tacos, and salsa. Service pleasant, polite, and efficient. I veered from my standard taco/enchilada combo and ordered shrimp and mango tacos. It was delicious and perfect after the work day. The classic margarita on the rocks completed the meal (note the empty glass in the photo lol). The beach is three blocks away. Great for a walk after. Street parking or valet parking available.

First time back in several years. Service was good. Food was good, nothing over the top. City lot across the street was free for the holidays, valet Parking is $6. Prices are about average for the area. Nice old style Mexican restaurant with large menu selection. Service was fast.

Classic sit down Mexican food and great service. My brother was visiting from Asia and this was a must spot to hit on his trip. We used to come here as youngsters and the quality is always zbest to this day. Definitely recommend if you want unique Spanish style ambiance, great flavor and very attentive service.

We came here with some friends who recommended it. We drove over an hour to try this place out. Parking is either on the street which is hard to find or valet which is $10 for a SUV. The restaurant is in the corner and not hard to miss. The inside is decorated beautifully and the staff are very friendly. The blended margaritas are bomb! They know how to make their drinks. They give you unlimited free chips and salsa while you wait for your food. Their salsa is so good! I couldn't stop eating it. The food came out shortly and portion size was great. My husband enjoyed his chicken enchiladas and said it had great flavor. The chicken taquitos were crunchy and delicious. The potato ones weren't my favorite as it was sweet. I'm not use to eating sweet taquitos so it caught me off guard. The rice and beans were cooked to perfection. Overall, they have good food and a cool atmosphere. Not sure if we would drive over an hour for it, but we're glad we got to try it.

Cocktails were had in the very noisy bar. We had House Margaritas that were not very strong at all. We moved to our table downstairs and ordered the very bland guacamole which we all ended up adding salsa too. We had the tacos, chicken and cheese enchiladas, a chicken chimichanga with rice and beans, and a beef burrito. All were just fair. Service was excellent and very efficient.

Beach parking. However they offer valet for $10 or park across the street in a pay structure. Prices are higher than most Mexican restaurants averaging $25 for an entree. Service is good. Friendly but not chatty. Overall no complaints from our server Rogelio. Food came out fast. Portion is plentiful. Spice level was excellent. My chile verde had a good kick but tolerable. Lunch for 4 with drinks came just shy $100 before tip.

I love Pancho's and I reserve my favorite table every time. I've been going to Pancho's since 1985 for Happy Hour and dinner. The margaritas are perfecto! The Enchiladas are but my all time favorite, enchilada Del Mar, sooooo good, which I tend to order most of the time is always on point. I want some now just thinking about it! The ambiance is exceptional, the restaurant decor is beautiful and ethnic...the colors and plants and I feel transported every time I go. I hope Pancho's stays forever...it's the best as far as I'm concerned and I'm very picky about my food! I just had lunch there for the first time the end of the year (2025). Viva Pancho's!

    Are there any vegan options?

    Not any good ones

Does Pancho's still offer the free birthday combination with a second paid meal of equal value?

    I'm not sure...

How much would it cost for two people to eat here plus maybe two drinks of alcohol each?

About $ 100.00 but you will enjoy the food, drinks and music. Great place to take your girlfriend or wife .

Would this be a good place for a baby shower?

Depends on the time of day & where you're seated in the restaurant. You should scope it out one day around the time you'd like to have it.

    Do they have mariachi's?

Hi Laura yes we do however only on cinco de mayo. thanks for your question hope too see you there thanks! Abbott Lawrence

What makes it worse is that this is not our first time with Mercado. We've been fans since the original location near The Grove and have been coming to this South Bay location for a while. We used to order takeout and dined in regularly and in the past the experience was much better. Unfortunately, that is clearly no longer the case. The service was atrocious from start to finish. We waited far too long for everything, including drinks. A single Tecate took about 30 minutes to arrive, which set the tone for the rest of the night. Nobody checked on us, nobody seemed attentive and we spent way too much of the evening just sitting there waiting. The food was equally bad. The carnitas nachos came out cold. The steak taco was rubbery. The fish tacos were incredibly dry. The birthday fajitas were also dry and underwhelming. For a place at this price point, there is really no excuse for food coming out like this. The overall atmosphere also felt off. What used to feel lively and welcoming now felt neglected and poorly managed. It was especially frustrating because this was supposed to be a birthday dinner and instead it turned into a long, overpriced, disappointing experience. It genuinely breaks my heart to write this because we have a long history with Mercado, but after this visit, we're done. There are too many better options in the South Bay to spend this kind of money on bad food, bad service and an overall miserable experience.

The second experience was not great. It was an extremely busy night, and the service was not what I expected. I told the waiter I was displeased. He apologized; however, I was disappointed and we left. After I left, I received a message from my server, Ben, asking for an opportunity to to make it right and inviting me back. Two months later, I took him up on the offer. He booked my reservation right away. Upon arriving at the restaurant with my Mom, we were seated right away and given such good treatment, we felt like celebrities. And the food, AMAZING! The churros for dessert - Chef's kiss. What makes this stand out for me is that Ben went so far above and beyond to make sure that I had a good experience. His apology was sincere enough, but he didn't stop there. A lot of people are not willing to go the extra mile like he did that day. I am very grateful and appreciative, and I do not take it for granted. The food at Esperanza speaks for itself, but the SERVICE 100/10! No notes. Thank you Ben.

These plants appeared to have union representation. They're everywhere. Hanging from things. Growing out of things. Quietly observing your meal. The whole place feels like someone built a really nice restaurant and then let nature move in as a long term tenant. The room hums. Not loudly. Not aggressively. Just enough. Glasses clink. People lean into conversations. Servers weave through the room carrying plates that look heavy enough to alter their center of gravity. Nobody seems rushed. Everybody seems busy. It's a difficult balance. The biscuits arrived first. Now, I'd heard about the biscuits. People talk about these biscuits the way fishermen talk about the one that got away. Slightly dramatic. A little emotional. Hard to verify. Turns out the stories were true. Warm bacon cheddar biscuits with maple butter. I took one bite and immediately understood why people order a second round. The outside has just enough structure to remind you it's baked. The inside is soft enough to make you wonder whether butter has secretly become a building material. We ordered another. Not because we needed another. Because apparently that's what happens here. The creamy polenta showed up next and felt like the culinary equivalent of a weighted blanket. Comforting. Smooth. Relaxed. The sort of dish that encourages you to slow down and stop checking your phone. The duck was one of my favorites. Lightly fried with crisp skin and tender meat, resting on white Italian beans and rosemary. It felt like something a French chef would cook after spending a weekend in the countryside and becoming briefly inspired by fresh air. At some point you stop evaluating food and simply nod in agreement with it. This was one of those moments. Dessert was equally dangerous. The olive oil cake arrived with strawberries and disappeared much faster than logic suggested it should. The cheesecake somehow managed to be rich and light at the same time, which feels like it should violate a law of physics somewhere. Service deserves its own mention. The whole team operates like a group project where everyone actually did their part. Plates appeared when they should. Water glasses mysteriously refilled themselves. Questions were answered without anyone making you feel like you should already know the answer. The chef's French influence shows up everywhere, but not in a showy way. Nothing feels complicated for the sake of being complicated. Everything feels like somebody spent a lot of time thinking about it so you wouldn't have to. By the end of the meal, I realized Manhattan Beach Post had done something difficult. It felt special without feeling serious. You can dress up. You can come casually. You can celebrate something important or absolutely nothing at all. Just order the biscuits. The plants already know you're going to.

Some dishes could've been executed better. Going down the list of dishes I had here: - Bacon Cheddar Buttermilk Biscuits: These were more like scones rather than biscuits. Crunchy with good bacon and cheddar flavor. - Japanese Hamachi Crudo: Unique and I liked the citrusy flavor and creamy texture. However, 3 small slices of fish for $26 was overpriced. - Leafy Greens & Radicchio: Solid and crispy salad with a nice tangy dressing. The cheese also added a lot of sharp flavor which was nice. - Skirt Steak: Good flavor and char, but a bit tough. Also some dry pieces. - Chilean Sea Bass: Lemon orzo risotto was creamy and delicious. The sea bass itself was okay, nothing special. It felt overpowered by the risotto. The fish was moist and flaky though. - 20 Oz Prime Beef Ribeye: Quality was subpar relative to price. Portion size was solid by the steak itself was inconsistent. Some of the pieces were rarer while others were more well-done even though we asked for medium rare. There were also some dry pieces which I did not like. Flavor was good though. - Strawberry and Olive Oil Cake: Was confused since there was just a thin layer of cake, but realized the title also referred to the mousse. I would title it 'Strawberry Mousse with Olive Oil Cake" to make it less confusing. Regardless, this was a delicious dessert! Love the fruity strawberry and savory pistachio flavors as well as the smooth textures. - S'mores sundae: Got this on the house for my aunt's birthday. A generous portion but the components were a bit too sweet for my liking. I visited this restaurant for a birthday that I organized and my experience was overall good. Reservation was made easy using OpenTable and I could also mention it was for a birthday occasion. The ambiance was gorgeous with good mood lighting. Good for group and 1 on 1 dining. Parking is metered or street parking. Overall, I probably wouldn't come out of my way to dine here again, but my experience wasn't bad just not significant enough to put in my rotation. Would come back if someone treated me here though.
