If you're looking for good Chinese food with generous portions and a friendly staff, Panda Inn is where it's at. I've visited this location a few times as well as the one in Ontario (I believe that's the city). Both are equally as good but I believe this Pasadena location is the OG. I usually order soup with whatever other main dishes I order, but this time we had already ordered so much food that it would've been too much. However, for starters I do recommend either the hot and sour soup or the egg drop soup. For the main dish we got: lo mein, orange chicken (duh), and honey walnut shrimp. I can't choose one because all of the flavors come through beautifully together! Make sure you ask for a side of hot sauce if you like that extra kick with your food. Parking is free, and easy. The food here is incredible! We especially enjoyed the sweet and pungent shrimp and the green beans! They have some really great cocktails too, the yuzu martini is my personal favorite. I'm so happy Panda Inn is finally open again. Came here opening day and was taken back by the beautiful decor and atmosphere. Although it looked very different from the original, the service and food were just as I remembered. Our server, Elaine, was so sweet and attentive. We ordered our usuals: hot and sour soup, mango duck salad, fried rice, honey walnut shrimp, Mongolian beef, and orange chicken. It all tasted better than I remember! The food is good - not wow amazing but good. The service is not. The servers are inattentive and everything is very slow. I've been twice now since it reopened and both times, drinks ordered never arrived with our having to ask at least once if someone could check on our bar drinks. No new plates offered between appetizers and mains. no chopsticks offered. No check ins after food arrived. One time we got the wrong bill. Food came in great long gaps of time. They didn't ask if we wanted rice until after the food arrived. It was really cold on my first visit and terribly hot the next. Overall - maybe takeout. I won't be going back to check in on this place for a long time... maybe by then they will have their service and experience in order. read more

My husband and I went to Panda Inn for lunch on a Wednesday. I read on their website that they had a lunch special which included a soup and appetizers with the entree you choose. Our hostess said that they don't do the lunch special only certain locations. They really should be accurate on their website and specify that it is only at certain locations. Our server, Kyle, was terrible. No personality, terrible attitude and not attentive, and it was not busy. The food was good, but dining out is half about service. It was not a pleasant all around dining experience. Panda needs to do better if you want people to spend $100 for lunch!!! read more

I had always wanted to try this place and finally had a chance this week. I scheduled my reservation online and did have to wait a week since it's super popular. Worth the wait. The food was delicious and the ambiance was super elevated and surprisingly calm. I loved that sushi was available and they even have seating at the sushi bar. We had the orange chicken, wonton soup, tempura and spicy tuna roll and beef noodles. I personally loved the wonton soup, super flavorful and perfect for the gloomy day. My partner's favorite dish was the orange chicken - it was perfectly crispy! What really made our experience go from good to great was the awesome service and attention to detail from our server Aaron. He took the time to go over each dish and connect with us. I wish I can give it 3.5 stars. This was my first time here, and I was overall not impressed. The food was exactly what we expected, in the sense that it's the same food you could get at Panda Express... but pricier. I actually like the food at Panda Express. The Kung Pao Chicken has always been my favorite at Panda Express. The Kung Pao chicken here had the same flavor, and the same spice level. The orange chicken was the same... the beef and broccoli was the same... the fried rice was the same. We thought they would at least take those dishes and somehow elevate them. I wanted an elevated orange chicken! I guess we were also expecting more because the restaurant was fancy looking, and they served the food on actual plates, and provided metal utensils instead of plastic ones. My recommendation is that if you do end up eating at Panda Inn, then order items you don't normally see at, or that is served at Panda Express. For instance, the Asian Spiced Beef Short Ribs. The short ribs were good! It was the most Chinese dish of the night! I did like that they had a bar. I recommend the Mai Tai. The other drinks like White Gummy Panda and Pandarita was just juice, meaning super sweet and not strong at all. Also, at the end of the meal, they give you fun fortune cookies. Even though I was not impress, I did enjoy the food because I like Panda Express. I say go to Panda Express because it's more affordable, but come here if you or someone you know wants Panda Express for their birthday. read more

It's OK, but to be honest with you I miss the old panda inn. We always would order on the website and take it to go, I've actually never eaten there. When they reopened this new location, for a while anyways the website wasn't even up for you to place an order so you had to call it in, but when you called, you either could not get through or you got put on hold for a long time, a testament to their success, I understand, but still as a customer who just wanted to pick up food pretty frustrating. The website now accepts orders however, the website menu does not match the actual menu, and there's no place for you to add any comments or modify any ingredients, another frustrating thing, we like their braised string beans for example however, you cannot order them on the web they just are not a choice you can make. There are actually quite a few items from the menu missing on the website. I thought, OK Skip ordering on the web and just call in an order, however, now when you try to call in an order, nobody answers the phone. I called about five times before I gave up and just went ahead and placed an online order, however, because they didn't have some of the things I wanted to order, I estimate that the restaurant lost about 50 or $60 of my business because I just simply could not order what I wanted. I realize the place is wildly successful and they have a lot on their hands but the website part of it seems like it's pretty simple to solve, so I'm not sure why they have not. I am hoping over the coming weeks they resolve some of these kinds of small technical issues I definitely do like the small turnaround in front of the place now, much easier for someone to stop there and run in and pick up an order, although so far every time I have gone, even if I give them 30 to 40 minutes to prepare the order, I still seem to end up waiting 5 to 10 minutes... the hot and sour soup is so good though, so I can live with waiting but on that note, whatever happened to the white fish in black bean sauce that they used to make? Now they only have steamed Chilean Seabass as a fish option, and it is a whopping $38, and it's not even a big piece of fish, I still order it because it's so great but I just cannot wrap my head around why it cost $38, that is way too expensive. For me, panda Inn is the best place to get Chinese food in Pasadena, I am sure that's a polarizing statement, but for me, it is, but all of these little small strikes against them start to add up, and I am definitely keeping score, so who knows maybe I will find another place, I'm definitely open to the option based on the above comments anyway, but I am hopeful that they iron things out read more

Ambience they did a good job on the remodeling. Nobody enjoys the couch part where you have to sit just inches next to the next party it's not comfortable. Nobody wanted to do it. Everybody that came in and asked to sit somewhere else and I suggest the same thing either they need to remove a table and space people further apart. Food was horrible sad to say orange chicken had to be returned three times till finally the manager came over and remade it for us. That's a sad state. He agreed they were like rocks you were eating rocks and flour almost no chicken. It seems and he agreed that most people are just lost. They still need to get everybody coordinated on what their job was. We went in mid week about 3 o'clock very dead and yet still people in there you have five bartender standing around nobody offering water no waitress stopping at your table, but walking by 45 times till finally the manager saw the situation and agreed they have a lot of things to go on if you're looking for the old Panda Inn... It's not there it's gone , we were hoping Andrew would keep it like it was and just build up the ambience but unfortunately no not even the menu will be back. Probably give it a chance in a year but sad to say we look very forward to opening and doing our celebrations again there, but that won't be happening until we check it out one last time. read more

We tried the new panda inn in Pasadena. I have to say I really miss the old restaurant and its ambiance; the waiters that had been there for years and the mellow elegant atmosphere. While the new restaurant has good food I found the ambiance to be pretentious and cold even though the manager and waiters were very solicitous. The parking was very inconvenient, you have to park in the new garage and take an elevator up to street level before going into the restaurant. Panda inn is just now another pretentious restaurant without having anything to be snobby about. I was disappointed. read more
