I had wanted to visit Panda Inn since they reopened after a lengthy rebuild. They tore down the old building and parking lot, and built a beautiful new building and a parking structure. There was a bit of a wait on a Sunday evening, but they kept us informed and we were seated as scheduled. The new menu had many tasty items, and the service was excellent! We got seated at a table with a turntable which made it easy to do family style with my group of friends. Service was top notch and attentive and the food itself was delicious. (4.5/5) Orange Chicken - This is better than when you get it at Panda Express. Well seasoned, crispy and delicious. (4.5/5) Bok Choy & Mushroom - When you need veggies this is a goto. It's perfectly seasoned and overall simple and good. (4.5/5) Charcoal Beef Short Ribs - I loved this, the meat was fall off the bone tender. Came with a few sauces. Pricey but worth it. (5/5) Upside Down Noodles - So good, I loved the crispy egg noodles with the sauce and everything was perfect. (5/5) Overall this was a delicious spot. Just like you we were skeptical about sushi at a Panda Inn, were we pleasantly surprised. Atmosphere A newly renovated Panda Inn. Bar felt upscale, spacious and modern. Seating wasn't so cramped and we had a great view of the open kitchen. Food We selected the standard Omakase experience and it was quite different than what we have experienced at other Omakase restaurants. It came with two refreshing appetizers and this wonderful mushroom dashi broth to sip on between each nigiri. The nigiri was expertly crafted by an experienced chef and each piece had its unique flavor, without overshadowing the taste of the fish itself. You also have the option to order from the regular menu, which I didn't feel the need to, as my hunger was satisfied. Service Now the service was what really stood out at this place. You can tell that each of the sushi team members really loved what they do. They made us feel like regulars even though it was the first time. They were all very attentive, even though the restaurant seemed pretty busy. However what made took this from a 4 to 5 star rating is the top tier service from Alexis!! She really steered us to the best dishes on the menu. My family and I came here today for the first time since having their huge renovation. We usually go to the Ontario location and our experience here was completely different from there! You can tell they are wanting this Panda Inn to have a more upscale experience, and I like that they have sushi options on their menu. I will say compared to the other Panda Inn they don't have as many choices on their menu which is a little difficult for my husband and in-laws due to them only being able to eat seafood because they eat Halal. We also didn't understand why a lot of their seafood menu had pork or meat in it. We started off with their Hot and Sour Soup and we all really enjoyed it! It was spicier than we were expecting, but we all liked it. We also got Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice and Vegetable Eggrolls - both were straightforward and what you would expect them to taste like. Everything came out fresh as well! We ended up ordering Kung Pao Shrimp, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Vegetable Fried Rice and Lo Mein for our main entrees. I personally think that this Panda Inn tasted higher quality than the other location we usually go to, but we felt like the portion sizes for some plates were a little smaller. Finally got a chance to try this place and it was so good. I ordered mostly from the chef's specialties and everything was delicious. I had the Dungeness crab salad, spicy wontons, lobster crispy noodles, and Panda's beef. The beef dish was especially amazing. I couldn't get enough of it. We've only visited this original Panda Inn once decades ago. The newly renovated restaurant is spacious and beautiful. They have a sushi bar now which is great. We usually like to sit at sushi counter. The menus were big but sake menu was limited. We chose Dassai 45 nigiri which wasn't our favorite. We don't like unfiltered sake much. For food we had salmon carpaccio, fresh oysters, spicy tuna crispy rice, Dungeness crab handroll and assorted sushi. Also chili shrimps and Taiwanese pork rice. The raw was very fresh and tasty. Cost for each meal was $18. We liked both those entrees. The broccoli in the broccoli beef was a vibrant green and I felt healthier just looking at it . We ordered the hot and sour soup but it was more picante than I like. I'll have the egg drop soup.. We arrived at noon and the place was filling up. It became pretty noises. We were greeted and seated within a few minutes of checking in. The restaurant was completely full with more guests waiting outside. We were seated in a window booth facing the street. The booth sits 6 people comfortably and our 7th family member sat on a chair pulled up to the booth. The menu is fairly straightforward and we all wondered how closely the food would be to their fast food restaurant. We ordered: Three Cup Chicken (3 good but sweet), S&P Crispy Calamari (4 flavorful), Spicy Serrano Pork (5 excellent), Mongolian Beef (bland), String Beans (4 ), Mapo Tofu (3 ), Braised Pork Rice (4 star delicious), and Beef Chow Fun (4 perfectly cooked noodles but very oily). We added BBQ Pork Fried Rice (5 ) for take out. We ordered a pot of Jasmine tea and a pot of decaf tea. The house chili oil is awesome - be sure to request it. We found the dishes leaned slightly toward an Americanized style, but they still captured key traditional flavors. Service was friendly and initially attentive --our server acknowledged our family member's peanut allergy and assured us he'd inform the kitchen, which we appreciated. However, the attentiveness tapered off during the meal. We had to ask multiple times for missing items. Overall we had a positive experience. My family and I came to Panda Inn on June 7, 2025 to celebrate my sister's birthday. Fortunately we made advance reservations for our party of 9. It appears they get quite busy during dinner hour. Since we had a large party, we ordered multiple starters, soup, and multiple dishes to share family style. My overall favorite dish was the Wagyu Chow Fun. Pasadena location is better! No no Glendale is better! Nope! Pasadena! Nuh Glendale! Well I'm here to tell you Glendale DOMINATES. So they revamped this location after a long hiatus and what can I say, it looks nice inside. Not what I expected with that long wait. I imagined something much more extravagant but hey looks good! But I'm here to give you my opinion to why I think Glendales location reigns over this location. Portion sizes and pricing! That simple, and obviously quality of food. Pasadenas location charges more per item than Glendales. So now if you're going to order 3-4 maybe even 5 dishes yeah you basically pay an extra 20-25 dollars difference. Also Pasadena doesn't have family portions, or at least on the menu that I know of. So for instance Panda beef here at Pasadena is 26 dollars for an order whereas Glendales is 22/43. 22 for the regular portion and 43 for the family size. Which if anyone is aware go to Panda during lunch or dinner. No one is dining alone. It's always families. So family portions are the way to go. So for them to up charge this much due to location is somewhat absurd. Also I remember going one day attempting to treat the family out for lunch with only 4 parties outside and the wait was 2 hours long. Come on now? So you mean to tell me the restaurant built this shopping mall sized eatery and can't even serve that many people at the same time. Wild! Overall food is good but it just didn't hit like the Glendale location. I've never waited more than 15 minutes at that location and each and every time we all leave happy and full! Past couple times I've left the Pasadena location with $150 dollars less in my pocket and hungry for another bite. Bring family size portions, and hire more staff to wait and cook. As simple as that. After the remodel I know they made some changes to how they cook some of their dishes, some were good changes (e.g., honey walnut shrimp with the added honey dew! That tastes amazing! My new favorite dish, filet mignon chow fun, fried rice) and some were not so good (upside down noodles- it used to have big full broccoli and carrots and all these yummy veggies and now its super skinny and thin and to me it doesn't taste as good. We ordered honey walnut shrimp tempura rolls, cucumber salad, two hot and sour soups, kung pao chicken, orange chicken, mangolian beef and combination fried rice. Everything tasted wonderful but the mvp would have to be the tempura rolls and mangolian beef. For dessert we got cheesecake with vanilla ice cream, lava cake with vanilla ice cream and a regular vanilla ice cream. The desserts were good but the cheesecake was outstanding. Full disclosure my last visit to a Panda Inn was 15 years ago so it was a pleasant surprise dining in at the newly renovated Pasadena location! The interior aesthetic is a classy mix between a Din Tai Fung and a PF Chang's in the best of ways and truly elevates the experience. I joked to my fiancé that I would have never suspected Panda Inn becoming THE date spot in Pasadena! As for the food everything was a nostalgic blast from the past but presented with a modern take: Mushu Pork wrap - 10/10 an absolute classic that must always be indulged Sizzling rice soup - 9/10 a classic as well and chock-full of seafood, no skimping here! The atmosphere was grand, larger than life, light, and airy. The staff were attentive, removing empty plates as we dined.
