    Soup dumpling
    Trudy C.

I hate writing a review like this, however, the dumplings were just that bad. Probably the worst dumplings I've ever had in my life. They are definitely not made fresh in house, they are ordered from someplace, arrive frozen and then reheated on site. Our first spicy dumplings arrived cold in the center, they took them back and I guess either reheated them or gave me some new ones that were heated up better. But even the texture of the wonton was very offputting. When I go to the West Coast, I love to take advantage of soup dumplings, as we don't really have many places that sell them in Texas. However, the soup dumplings were terrible. They arrive cracked as they are definitely frozen. Here's a video of the soup dumplings and how they are cracked at the seams; possible leadikg to liquid evaporation when cooked. They have very little broth and are not hot as you normally find. Even the soup dumplings back in Texas are a million times better than these. They're boi buns were also awful, the texture of the bowel buns was definitely reheated and not great. Cracking all over. Everything we ordered was pretty bad. If the price tag reflected the food, I might have not given such a bad rating, but the prices are the same that you would find at Din Tai. The service was OK but nothing spectacular. The people were nice enough, but not friendly. They do not validate parking instead tell you to go to Starbucks and ask them to validate. The restaurant atmosphere itself was OK too, but you can tell it needed some cleaning. The party next to us brought in a dog that barked so loud the entire time and their walls echo. I would definitely not recommend this place and advise you to go a little bit further out and eat somewhere that you can guarantee good dumplings like at Din Tai. Big Waste of money and appetite.

Located in very strategic location in Pasadena. We decided to come here as in Al Hambra location the wait is over 1 hour. Upon entering premises, waitlist queue registration is required through an app. When our turn I received sms when the table is ready. When we get seated we get 2 options to order whether through online via QR code or through paper. As for food review - Turnip Cake has no garlic sauce like common dish I had in other dim sum places - Rice Roll was OK - Chicken Shiu Mai taste was a lil bit odd, I suggest order the regular, pork & shrimp one - Pork Rib w/ black bean sauce was the hits Last but important, they charge for chili oil! This is complimentary condiment in ANY dim sum place as this is one of the authentic part that comes with it! Seating comprised of 2 locations, ground level & upper level through staircase. So I would have to rate 3 stars for all the downsides...

So good - ate it fast

Located in Pasadena, their parking lot charges $7 and is often full. Plenty of paid street parking. I paid around $1.76 for 2 hours on Passport app. It was my first time at this location. Service was swift and attentive. You order via your phone and there are no push carts here. Expect a 30 min wait on their weekends. My photos aren't great because we ate everything so fast. We ordered: Steamed Chicken feet 8/10 Sticky rice wrap - 9/10 lots of meat, abalone Har gow 8/10 wrap a little thick Siu mai 8/10 Beef balls 8/10 doesn't have traditional spinach or bean curd underneath, tasted good Beef rice noodle 8/10 Pan fried Turnip cake - best I have ever had, evenly charred 10/10 Bean curd roll (pork shrimp) in soup 10/10 Sakula egg yolk bun 10/10 Love this place. Great location but parking can take an extra 5-10 minutes. Not great for super large parties but up to 6 persons is ok. I'll be back soon.

Amazing Chinese food! We came on a Saturday a little before 5PM and were seated right away, but it got pretty full as we ate! Ordered via the QR code. The 4 of us shared the following dishes: Salt & Pepper Pork Chop (5/5): MY FAVORITE. I love a good pork chop and these were one of the best I've had! Crispy and a lot of meat, not too salty or too much fat Pan-Fried Vermicelli w/ Curry (5/5): super flavorful, and full of char siu and shrimp! Shrimp Fried Rice (4.5/5): a little bland for my taste, but good wok hei. Loads of shrimp Jumbo Pork & Shrimp Siu-Mai (4/5): these were gigantic and filling! The flavor was good tho The portions were all huge so we had leftovers! Service was speedy and one of the workers was super nice! Reasonably priced for the portion size. Interior is spacious and there's even another level. I would come back if I was in the area!

Came around 4:45 pm on a Saturday and we were seated promptly. Spacious, clean and aesthetic inside with a good amount of tables and even a second floor! The 4 of us shared the following dishes: -Jumbo shrimp and pork siu mai: (4/5) HUGE, juicy, moist and flavorful! -Salt and pepper pork chop: (5/5) crispy and tender, nicely seasoned and not too salty -Shrimp fried rice: (4.5/5) delicious, moist, lots of big shrimp, can taste the wok hei! -Pan fried vermicelli with curry: (4/5) savory and slightly spicy, lots of cha siu, shrimp and veggies We were all stuffed and had some leftovers! Service was pretty quick, nice and refilled our waters often. A solid and delicious Chinese restaurant!

I usually go to the Lunasia in Alhambra in Las Tunas and didn't know they also have a location in Pasadena. Food is the same and they have the panda buns here. They do have rectangle shaped tables so it's not as ideal for Chinese food (no lazy Suzy) but guessing tables were from the prior tenant? Parking is around the back and there are two pay lots. Come on a Sunday and you might get lucky and find a meter parking spot as they don't enforce meters in Sunday. Check out my pics.

Came here for Valentine's Day. Thought it was off that they wouldn't let you make a reservation unless it was a party of 8 or more but okay. We sat upstairs and the food came out pretty fast. They also have the option of ordering from your phone via QR code which I thought was nice (even though it's eliminating jobs)

Cool concept for a Dim Sum restaurant. Quiet, nice ambiance, food comes out quickly. Order through the kiosk at the front or through your phone once you're seated. Ordering was easy through their website, especially if you're new to Dim Sum and not know what anything is. Food was really good. My favorite was the string beans. Prices seem a little elevated than what you would normally get at a Dim Sum restaurant, but I guess you're also paying for the ambiance. Would come back again.

Came here for the dim sum and it did not disappoint! We got too much food because we added a beef noodle soup. But the Jumbo shrimp Pork Siu-Mai and the Jumbo Shrimp Har-Gow were amazing. We made the mistake however with the beef noodle soup, not just because we ordered too much food, but it took the longest, and was easily by far the worst beef noodle soup I ever had in my life. Major on the majors and minor on the minors and get what they specialize in and that's their dim sum! Service is quick, professional, and helpful! Nice place just to enjoy for dim sum for all casual occasions! Parking is available at a lot nearby!

After seeing it for years and the last time I went there was more than 5 years ago as to go order, today I went in for dine in experience. Of course, because you are in Pasadena, you expect the price are higher than your normal dim sum place out in Monterey Park or Alhambra in comparison. The pineapple bun with barbecue pork fillings was a bit disappointing. When you have pineapple crust on the top, it needs to be flaky and crispy. There was not crispy at all. It was a little bit soggy. The barbecue pork filling was OK, it was not what I'm used to. And I've how many barbecue park throughout my life from Hong Kong to the US. As for the dim sum, you know you have to get their standard har gaw and shui Mai to see if they are at least comparable to other places. And they are pretty good and they big sizes. That's why they earned four star for my review. Their Services, was just your usual bring you your food and they leave. You have to scan the QR code and order the food from your phone and they will bring it from the kitchen. Do not expect push cart style. You don't even use a pen and paper to mark off your dim sum list. Ambience wise, it's a nice big space with two floors of dining area. Would I go back? probably not anytime soon. I will stick with my OG dim sum places out in Monterey Park.

Good. Quiet on a Wednesday at 11am. Ambiance was pretty chill and slow/quiet. We were the second group to be seated. Everything was tasty except for the scallop dumpling which I strongly advise you against ordering. The Scallop Dumpling (Squid shrimp) were rancid. Sour like vinegar. Sent it back and was removed from the check and they sent us Portuguese egg tarts as an apology. Those were FANTASTIC. Love all the jumbo dim sum options like jumbo har gow and jumbo Shu mai to name a couple. Chicken feet was good. Very soft. The congee was great as well. Nice texture and plenty of egg and pork. We also got the fried shrimp seaweed things which weren't my favorite but i didn't order it. Just a preference thing. The panda buns are pretty decent but mainly for the cutesy factor. Fun for the kids to eat. We also got soup dumplings which my 4 year old devoured so I can't speak to the taste and quality but I assume good haha. We ordered the shrimp and pork wrapped rice thing but didn't try it because honestly we were full from starting with sweets at Badash bakery a few doors down. But despite not being very hungry everything (besides the scallop dumpling) was lovely. Oh and the pineapple buns are delish as well.

Quick service and easy to order and pay since it's all done through an app so you can order as you go and when you're ready you can just close out. Convenient for a small group 2-4 people. They have a good range and selection and the quality is decent. Not the same as the traditional carts but for ease and convenience it hit the mark.

    Alex K.

Lunasia is one of the staple dimsum chains in the area, though not one of the oldest or traditional. Dining in is nice as it is no-fuss and has line management such as a tablet to sign in. Takeout is also surprisingly well handled, although ideally you are not eating dimsum to-go. There is definitely better in the SGV and nearby, but I don't speak Cantonese which is basically the #1 requirement if you want the good stuff. So despite that, the experience is decent for the rest of us. Highlights are anything with shrimp. I think their yang chow has some of the best shrimp in fried rice I've ever had. They do XL shu mai which is just larger and packed with more goodies and is one of the few value dollar items on their menu. Doesn't feel great that they charge for condiments like chili sauce, but that's the ticket for entry. I understand XO sauce is very difficult to make and pricy, but it doesn't slap as hard as it should if you charge over a dollar for it.

Lunasia Dim Sum House Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Lunasia Dim Sum House

Do they have carts for dimsum?

No, they do not use the traditional carts. They have a QR code at the tables and you order using the menu on your phone. You have a table number and the servers bring your food directly to your table. You also pay remotely. It is a nice set up!

What time does dim sum end? 12:00? 2:00?

    It's all day

Does the meals come with rice? Or is it extra?

It's all like dim sum Ala Carte. So the rice is a side dish.

Do you offer a gluten-free menu? Thank you.

I don't believe so, but as someone who is gluten free, i can tell you there is plenty there you can eat.

Hi I have a nut allergy and don't eat at some traditional dim sum place since they use peanut and walnut in some dim sum. Does your kitchen also prepare the dim sum with nuts in them? Thx

They have peanut in chicken feet and Honey Walnut Shrimp (Walnuts)

Is the dining room open again?

Yes, the dining room is Open Again.

Is Lunasia open for dine in? They never pick up their phone.

Is same time busy, just wait for you time if you want to go order is online lunasiadimsumhouse

    What's the bottle opening fee?

    Do you have outdoor seating?

    Take out orders only

    Do you allow service dog?

    Yes,

Is dimsum the whole day here from open to close?

    Yes all day.

Was there any issue with the kitchen today ? Waited almost two hours since the scheduled pick up time...

No need to wait two hours, if you order 1 pm is ready o 3 o 4 is ready this is sample only

    Have they started outdoor/indoor dining?

There is indoor dining with dividers between tables. All tableware is disposable and you order and pay on your phone.

It says they do delivery but how can you order for delivery and how far do they deliver?

Thank you for your interest! Our delivery is provided by DoorDash, UberEats & Postmate. The range they offer service is less than 10 miles.

Every time I try and order it states "maximum order size 10,000" and won't let me order for delivery via the app or third party. What does this mean?…

    Call them

How do you claim your points on the app?

Only in person inside the restaurant

What is included in the dim sum family meal 4-6 ppl that's on the app? This is for take out and the iOS app does not list the details of what this order entails

I don't tbh honest, we go there and order family style all the time. A lot on the menu is great.

    Do they serve alcohol?

Well, I didn't see anyone drinking alcohol, even water. Just green tea that is really good. I thought to ask water, but's I was afraid because it is so Chinese. I gave checked the menu online and just Chinese tea.

Can I order to go order?

Yes due to Covid every order is to go, no dine in yet

Will you be open New Year's Day?

Having grown up with NYC and SF dim sum, NBC is one of the few Los Angeles area places that has the selection and flavors of my childhood. Some favorites were the har gow, taro puffs, and tripe. We got the roast duck but it wasn't very meaty or flavorful. We got the congee which was ok, but lacked any definite personality. The chewy fried dumplings were more dough than filling. The siu mai and veggie dumplings were both solid. I didn't try the bitter melon or turnip cakes because I don't like the taste of either, but I was happy to see them available. We got a claypot rice dish with spare ribs and Chinese sausage which was good but the rice was not crispy on the bottom. I saw they had chicken feet, which I usually love but they didn't look appetizing enough to order. Would definitely go back for other dishes and with more people so we could sample more selections.

The servers were excellent, very attentive, extremely friendly, and definitely helpful. Would definitely come back, but knowing that it is on the expensive side. For seven dishes, pretty standard ones, it was approximately $150 after including tax and tip. The ambience was definitely immaculate, very clean restaurant, and the food was pretty solid.
