While visiting friends, we got takeout from Pandan, and I was super happy with my meal. I had the indomie, Indonesian-style ramen, perkedel corn fritters, and the chicken curry puffs. Oh my goodness, I love their basil garlic sauce! My only qualm is I like more heat with my ramen, but that's amendable by hot sauces or another addition of the sort. I thought the food here was below average. I ordered the red curry with chicken and the sauce it came in was extremely thick. It kind of tasted like a thick chowder soup with chicken and vegetables thrown in. I ordered it medium and there was absolutely no spice to it at all. Pandan Room is really a treasure in an area that doesn't have a ton of great Asian food. The menu has both familiar Thai items as well as lesser known Southeast Asian dishes, so it's a great way to learn about new foods and expand your palate. The flavors are both nuanced and bold, the ingredients fresh and high quality, and the portions hearty and filling. There are plenty of options for vegetarians and those looking for health-forward dishes too. Over the years Pandan Room has consistently delivered and it's really a testament to the owners' vision and belief in the concept of bringing sophisticated but accessible Asian food to the community. In terms of ambience/environment, the main dining area is bright and festive, while the patio is a bit more intimate/romantic, especially on a summer night. Only 3 stars today, although the food was excellent, as usual but the service was pretty bad. They have dim sum lunch Saturdays and Sundays and this was out first time. The only 2 servers had to do everything themselves, including bussing tables. So, no wonder they were overwhelmed and failed to explain that the dim sum cart will come only once to each table. Came here for dim sum as I was so excited to learn there is a dim sum place out here. The dim sum is NOT your traditional Chinese dim sum type. This is because the restaurant is Thai so many of the plates had a Thai flare to it (curry, nuts, fish paste). The service was slow, the food was semi-warm, rice was just ok (typical jasmine rice not the good Asian rice), and prices not anything to be excited about given the overall taste of the food. If looking to have sub-par dim sum just because you don't want to drive further, then this may be the place. However, don't be too excited and choose the options wisely as you will probably be limited to a very few plates that will satisfy your fancy. read more

If you like fresh, authentic Thai food, skip this place. Ignore the positive reviews and seek elsewhere! I have been a huge fan of Thai food for many years and have eaten at Thai restaurants throughout the country. This one is near friends so we decided to check it out for the first time recently. The very positive reviews on Yelp gave me hope and I was excited to get a good meal far from home. Unfortunately the large majority of my experience at Pandan Room was negative. I do have to say that the decor is nice and the hostess was warm and accommodating. The table we sat at was also cozy and comfortable. But that's where the positive experience with this restaurant ended. To start, after a long (and half-hearted) pitch by the server for the specials, we ordered soups and appetizers. (This was after a series of questions she had no answers for.) Why did the restaurant owner/chef feel the need to hire young college students who obviously have no perspective on actual Thai food? Anyway, the appetizers came surprisingly quick - the soups were decent but overly sweet - the appetizers were a mixed bag, the corn fritters tasted like frozen store bought food. All things considered however, the soups and apps were halfway decent. The main course was a major disappointment. The Pad Thai was basically a store bought stir fry, and tasted like it. It was extremely soggy and far, far too sweet. The only thing I could taste in the dish was sugar and peanuts. Where was the spice? I ordered medium and it was basically bland! I had to ask for hot sauce and spice it myself, but still could barely stomach it. My companions dishes were also very subpar. The yellow curry was completely uninspired and had a presentation that looked like a nine year old was helping his father in the kitchen. Rind-on squash in yellow curry? Other unappetizing vegetables randomly thrown into the dish? Uncle Ben's brown rice on the side? No thank you. Oh and other than the squash the rest of the vegetables looked like they were frozen vegetables right out of a bag. Additionally the dish had perhaps even less spice than the pad thai. Unreal. I don't even want to discuss the bang-bang curry it was so bad. Where does this chef come off thinking that people won't notice the lack of authentic southeastern Asian spices and that they won't realize he is just using cheap, sugary sauces and ingredients? Finally, throughout the meal, service was pushy, yet inattentive. Need another drink? You better ask at least twice. Need to wrap up food? Be prepared to do it yourself. And definitely don't ask for the check if you want to ever see your server again. After 30 minutes we finally just gave up and left our cash on the table. Thank god we didn't need change or anything. No drink refills, no check pickup, not even a good night from the server! I have worked in the restaurant industry for 12 years and I rarely leave less than 25%, but this night I didn't mind the 18% we gave the waitress. If you are a foodie like me or expect quality and authenticity from a Thai restaurant, skip the Pandan Room: I doubt you will have a good experience here. read more

We almost never go out to dinner locally, but when we do, this is where we go about 80% of the time. (We've eaten there or gotten their take-out about 40 times over the past 2 years.) The food is really good, and that's why we are going out to dinner - to get something delicious that we can't easily make at home. We've tried the new Long Valley location 3 times so far (Pandan Fusion Lounge.) The food seems equally good. We also had two holiday parties, and catered both of them with party platters from Pandan Fusion Lounge, which went over very well with all the guests. There were no leftovers at either party, so that says a lot. The gentleman who appears to be the owner and chef seems very nice,and genuinely interested in giving a good dining experience. Hadn't eaten here in a while since moving to the area almost 2 years ago. In the past felt that the food was inconsistent and the last time had been disappointing. Do decided to try it again, and unfortunately the results were much the same. The atmosphere is pleasant, service excellent, and I have to admit that the sous chef knows how to put together flavorful sauces and dips. In fact, really loved the apps! However, they fall short in assembling the entrees. The shrimps were the size of salad shrimps, and the chicken was dry and tasteless in my stir fried dish. A plus is that they are BYOB!
