Also, they were out of several ingredients at the time such as red onions and black pepper fonchia bread. Service was slow especially late in the evening with less people. This location seems to make a point of receiving bad reviews! Today, I ordered and paid on their app for three cinnamon rolls, two bear claws, two cheese and cherry, Altogether seven items. When I got there they showed me the bag and told me it was already sitting in a rack for me to pick up; so I picked it up and walked out only to find out, when I got home, that two items were missing. I tried to call them twice and pressed "5" to speak to a manager but to no avail. So I drove back to the store and asked the clerk who told me they were out of those two items, I asked why didn't they bother telling me because I've already paid for seven items and she rolled her eyes and told me again that they were out of those items and she cannot help it! Came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning at 8am and the place was already crowded. Got 2 bagels and cream cheese with a coffee and a chai tea latte. Service was pretty nice and the food was decent, well, honestly a whole lot better than Starbucks down the shopping strip. Panera is a decent place to grab a simple breakfast or lunch. For bagels, I usually stick with a toasted Asiago Cheese Bagel, as it's pretty monstrous and I liked the crispy melted Asiago cheese that's on top. If I'm craving for something sweet, the Cinnamon Crunch Bagel is also good, too, as the crusty and crunchy cinnamon with brown sugar on top really craves the sweet tooth. The Egg & Cheese on Ciabatta is also pretty decent with the melty cheese and the peppered egg on a chewy ciabatta bread. For the lunch combo, I usually get the Asiago Steak Sandwich as I'm a fan of their Asiago breads; it has medium-rare roast beef, smoked cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and a horseradish sauce - I usually add extra mayo and ground pepper to give it an extra 'umph.' For soup, I usually get the Broccoli Cheddar Soup (creamy with chunks of broccoli throughout) or their rare-appearanced Cream of Chicken & Wild Rice (love the wild rice throughout and the chunky vegetables and the chicken). If a craving for a panini occurs, then the Frontega Chicken is sometimes ordered, but sometimes the sliced tomatoes inside can be too overwhelming. They sometimes feature signature/special salads, and I've tried the Steak Salad with medium-rare thin slices of roast beef/steak throughout with a vinaigrette dressing. A Cherry Pastry is sometimes bought for dessert, and the filling of the cherries is pretty good and a nice treat at the end. The locations is easy to get to, and they have later hours. I love this part, because when I needed something quick to eat at 9pm I had choices outside of greasy burgers and fries. Both times I've been here, I've never had any issues with the service, and the food has always been up to expectations. I was such THE HATER when I wrote my first review. I really didn't know what the hell I was talking about. That was then.... this updated review is about now. Now, I cannot get enough of Panera. I love their bagels, salads (Greek), paninis, and just about everything else. I order Rapid Pick-up so that I never have to wait. I just walk in, grab my food and walk out. For the most part my order is correct. But there has been times where my breakfast sandwich had half frozen sausage patties. When I told the manager he got a little defensive and kind of made it seem like it was not possible to get a cold turkey sausage patty. Other than that, I love this place. Panera's a pretty good breakfast/lunch staple when there are no other "interesting" independent cafes around. I went here for two days, back to back: one day for some coffee, and the next day for a soup lunch. The coffee's good and I like that there are choices available. I had the kale, bean and turkey sausage soup which is actually really good. I like this combination. While I could see the kale, I could hardly taste it. Definitely a soup I'll try to replicate at home. Panera has plenty of seats, so even on a busy Friday morning when soccer moms are doing some kind of weird 'business meeting', you can still get a decent seat. It's the Saturday breakfast/lunch crowd that's crazy when some want breakfast/brunch/lunch. My friend and I had to settle for the armchairs in front of the fire place and use the coffee table as a dining table. A little awkward, I know, but we really needed a table to set down our soups. I think I go here too much now. LOL But because it's so great. Disclaimer, I do not like panini bread or the sandwiches at Panera. My first time having them I nearly threw up. Breakfast - Okay. I had a bagel with egg and cheese and it was grilled or something. The cheese choice didn't really compliment my bagel sandwich very well. I am picky though. Now lunch time is a different story. I love there chicken noodle soup and chicken Caesar salads. Plenty of seating - though I rarely visit during busy hours (after 3PM is the worst - lots of noisy teens), and free internet make this a place I go when I want to relax and eat slow. Plenty of parking as it is in a strip mall area. There is also outside seating. Staff is really nice, and now that I am a regular they treat me so well. Also, one time they messed up my order, it was fixed in about a minute and I wasn't charge extra which I should have been since what I wanted was more expensive than what I was charged. Yay Panera! I'm not sure where the low rating for this Panera comes from because it is just like any other Panera I've been too! The handful of times I've been here, there services has been fast, polite, and presented no problems whatsoever. At this location, they will bring the food out to you and even take away your plates for you. It's been clean the times I've visited, and the staff have been very friendly. If you have the app, go find a spot to sit and order from the table. It's the fastest way to go. That said be prepared for them to get it wrong. I gave my order in person. She kept adding bacon. I said No bacon. Twice. What did I get? Bacon. Sigh. It costs more so that's annoying. Every language in the world understands the word no so why was my order wrong? No idea. They do not have vanilla for the coffee. No vanilla latte. I'm baffled by that. I got the pumpkin spice. It was nasty. On top of that the wifi sucks. Slower than a snail. I've been to many Paneras; I enjoy the intersection of creative food fast. The food is always prepared the same way so it's also reliable. That's what I expect when I go to a Panera: the exact same thing every time. This is the worst Panera I've been to. The cashiers are rude, have zero customer service skills, and aren't knowledgeable of the menu. My food is always prepared haphazardly and 9/10 times I'm given a plate stamped with a dirty handprint. Very marginal experience starting with only 4 people in line but a 10 minute wait with 2 people at the cash registers. One cashier had her mask beneath her nose - when asked to cover her nose in front of manager, she became angry claiming all masks fall below the nose when talking. She came out from behind the cash registers and walked up and down the "0ne Way" aisle without any social distancing and her mask below the nose. The manager couldn't care less. read more

This Panera is slowly going down hill. I have been coming here regularly for the last 10 years. My visit today was Sunday, 6 August 2017 at approximately 4:45pm. Coffee light roast urn, half&half cream and napkin dispenser were empty. I alerted the staff. He came out with a full coffee urn but the coffee was barely warm. I like the food but this review is about the Alexandria, VA location on Richmond Highway. This is the closest one to where I work so when I want Panera, I'm forced to come here. There is only one time that I came here and did not have a negative experience and each negative experience resulted when my food/order was handled by the same person. I don't know her name but all her name tag says is "manager". Whether it's an unwelcoming attitude,the tossing of my soup spoon, the attitude after a messed up order, just in general she does not come off friendly. The one time I had a non-negative experience, it must have been her day off. Just now, I went to pick up an order that I had called ahead for pick up. I get there and there she is at the end register. She was ringing up a customer so I waited but we made eye contact. She finishes with them, then ignores me and calls the next customer. I tell her that I called ahead and she tells me to wait since she already called the next customer. I end up waiting longer than I would have had I just gotten in line. There's no way she didn't know I was waiting there as while I was, 2 other employees kindly asked me if I needed anything. She ignored me. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal. I have no problems with waiting. But my point is that it's always SOMETHING when she's there. And she's a manager?! Fail. read more

While the staff are extremely friendly, my visit this morning during a moderately busy time period revealed a staff that was completely confused, disorganized and stressed out. I have no complaints about the food product...the food I ordered was fine. The problem, however, was that the process of ordering and getting my food was about as ridiculously complicated as a scene from a TV sitcom. I felt bad for the young staff members who were clearly working hard and doing their best, however, you can tell when a place is simply lacking coordination...a bunch of 18/19 year old staff need management, however good they are. One star for service. This is not the first time I come here and the manager saids NO to any accommodations outside the menu. All I ask is for a simple fried egg. Last time I came at 1030am and he saids they were out of eggs. I come at 11:06am on Saturday and I ask if I can please have an egg on my bagel and he said no the kitchen ran out of eggs. That has to be a lie I can't believe Panera buys their eggs every morning before they open their doors. This location could be a hub and a desired breakfast location but with the awful service all they attract is people who which to leave no tip and upset customers. Does Panera have customer service ambassadors in Virginia? Some kind of course to lead with dignity and respect. Otherwise I see no reason why I should shop near here when I can go to Arlington or DC and be treated with respect at a family owned cafe or restaurant. Alexandria is missing out on customers because of poor customer service which keeps all their employees in this area starving on minimum wages. After this awful customer service I decided to cancel 80 percent of my order because I was so upset I didn't even get an I'm sorry we can't do that just a simple no and some blank eyes staring at me when I asked why.
