The food is good, but housekeeping is terrible. Sticky floors, sticky tables, food and trash all over the floor. This place smells and the staff seems pretty miserable. I've never seen a Panera in such bad shape (we've been going coast to coast for years). We won't be back. Management here needs help. read more

Like all the Panera restaurants this place is a trendy casual stop to grab a tasty healthy sandwich, soup or salad. That is as long as you can avoid the pastries, lol. Breakfast: Great coffee but other than bagels and the pastries the breakfast menu is a little limited but all of it is good. Lunch and Dinner: The "Pick 2" (1/2 sandwich and salad or soup) meals are perfect for those who can't decide on two great choices. I've been to various Panera's across Hampton Roads so many times I can honestly say I've tried just about everything they have on the menu and all of it has been great. Well except for one thing...Panera's latest creation of flatbread sandwiches (Mediterranean Chicken, Thai Chicken and Southwestern Chicken) are anything but good. Having a hankering for something crispy, fresh and healthy my wife and I settled on the Mediterranean and Thai flatbreads, and we couldn't have been more wrong. The dense bread they were served on harkened me back to my days in the Navy. If I didn't know any better I'd say Panera stole the military's receipt for the tasteless bread found inside Meals-Ready-to-Eat (MRE's). Bad, bad and bad. As much as I tried I couldn't finish this sandwich. Way too much cabbage and the lack of tzatziki sauce made the Mediterranean Chicken Flatbread so bland I had to get a Bear Claw to try and help my taste buds forget the trauma I had just put them through.Unfortunately it wasn't enough. My advice is to order anything but the flatbread and you'll be just fine. Cleanliness: Not a big fan of carpeted floors in semi fast-food restaurants but Panera works hard to keep it clean. Likewise the restrooms have always been clean when I've gone in. Except for rare instances the table tops and seats are wiped down and ready to seat the next patron. For a high traffic restaurant I have no worries about cleanliness. Service: All the Panera's seem to employ a higher ratio of women to men. Mostly teenage girls. In fact I can't remember a time when a male took my order or was someone other than a cook or manager. That said the girls working behind the counter have all been polite, quick and accurate with the orders so there's not much of a wait time, even when its crowded. Overall: Except for the flatbreads this is a great place for friends to enjoy coffee or tea or have a great meal making it a 4 Star stop in Chesapeake. read more

Thought I already added this place to Yelp and reviewed it, but this morning saw that there was nothing. This places has been open for a few months and is a decent Panera. The setup is like a gauntlet. You order in the front and make your way to the back to pick up your items. The restrooms are even further back, just before you walk out the back of the store where there is an emergency exit. The restrooms and dining area were kept clean. Nice local gathering place with good coffee and baked goods. read more

I love coming to this Panera as it is usually less crowded and more conducive to what I am there for. There are always high chairs available and the orders are made quickly and correctly. The staff seem to enjoy working there and we always receive excellent service. I try to go here if I am in the area versus going to the Greenbrier one. read more

I must say, I rarely write reviews - especially nice ones- and this is by far the best Panera I have ever been to. From friendliness, quick service, and this locations food blows every other Panera out of the water. My turkey avocado BLt was SO DELICIOUS!! The bread so soft and light- extremely fresh. The turkey so moisture my eyes popped open in surprise, and delight. All in all- a wonderful experience. Panera always has delicious food and pastries. Their "pick up 2" is my favorite, a cup of soup and a flat bread always make my day! Plus the workers at this location are always kind and nice, I've never seen dirty tables or long lines of people waiting to order. One of my favorite places for a quick lunch or dinner. read more

I suppose this review is a little unfair, since it is a general review of Panera and not of the specific location, but I feel strongly enough to let er rip. These VA locations are far too expensive for what they offer. In CA, at least they serve the food to you and clear your table. I no longer go to Panera because they've raised the prices beyond what is acceptable. I'd expect that if they were a niche establishment serving "clean" cuisine, but they're not. Perhaps they are organic, but I don't think so. The portion sizes are modest. That's great if you understand that this is still fast food and you want to curb the impact of your cheat meal. But if you're looking to sate your hunger, you may have to buy two entrees. The self service aspect is unbearable, especially when you have to handle your food right after holding the buzzers they give to everyone. It's not incredibly sanitary. Actually, the perfect analogy is to liken Panera to French Cuisine. The portion sizes are small, but expensive. However, if it's really that fancy, why am I serving myself? read more

Panera's has upped their game! The new Green Goddess Cobb salad is great but my new go-to is the Southwestern Chili Lime RanchSalad. I love their potato soup and French onion. Many good sandwich options including Bacon Turkey Bravo and Asiago steak and the Italian. Must get over to try the breakfast options! This busy location is narrow and is both cosier and quieter than most. Service is very fast. No mistakes on any of my orders and they seem the make the sandwiches with care. read more

I've never written a negative yelp review because I normally think it's a waste of time, but I'm really passionate about breakfast. My sister used to work at a Panera so I thought I knew what I was getting into quality-wise. Ordered the avocado, spinach, and egg white sandwich with an extra over easy egg fully expecting everything to be piled on top of each other and not spread out, because it's Panera- overly mediocre food, overly priced. Instead, I got a sandwich with 0 egg. Went up to the counter to fix it. Was told they had no more egg whites and said they could do an egg over easy. I showed them my receipt to get the two eggs I asked for and watched as it plopped into the heaping mess. I went back and rearranged my sandwich so that it could actually be eaten. By this point, the sandwich was cold, but that was probably on me. I was with a friend who had ordered a similar sandwich before me, but her order was forgotten about. When she finally got her order after mine, it had egg whites. Worst of all, I didn't get the free treat promised by my receipt for getting the wrong order. read more

Awful, I placed an online order for pick up and didn't really modify any items to be extra or difficult, all of my orders were how they come in the menu... yet still half of my orders were messed up. When I went to pick up my food I checked the bag and one of the sandwiches and soups weren't even in the bag so I had to ask an employee for help on that situation, after some slight attitude I got 'what seemed' to be my whole order. Get in my car and head back to work as I only have a few minutes for lunch... The sandwich is as whole different kind then what I ordered smothered with mayo to where it was dripping out the sides so I couldn't even bother to stomach it down out of hunger. My soup was cold with none of the extras that was displayed online (the melted cheese croutons ect). Feeling pretty frustrated at this point and being someone who doesn't call or complain easy I dreadfully called the store back as my whole meal wasn't Edible In anyway. Now the phone call the lady helping me out seemed nice but not very knowledgeable at all, when I explained the situation she said I could drive back in and get the stuff remade but like I stated earlier I'm only on a 30 min lunch break and at this point I have 10 mins left of it. So I ask if it can be delivered to me because my work is 6 mins from their store and I'll even still tip the delivery driver knowing it's not his fault. I get told I'm not in delivery range of the store and I could only get store credit if I came in personally. Now I find that odd because I have seen their delivery cars drive up and down the road past my work quite a bit of times... so now I'm here with a sandwich that is swimming in mayo (and the wrong sandwich completely) a cold soup that I'd have to reheat my self with out the cheese and croutons. Just very disappointed with how the whole situation was handled, I used to be in the food business, was a server for 8 years and have never told customers they had to come in store to get a refund or pay full price still. Sandwich staff like to talk about other team members behind their backs. As a business owner I wouldn't' want my staff to do that. No pagers were available,no biggie, however they never called my name when it was ready. Just wasn't the best of experiences...if I wanted the gossip I would have gone to McDonald's. read more

Kudos to panera for getting a pretty complicated order spot on. A bunch of people from work decided to order delivery on a Friday and we had about 6 orders, all with modifications. They got everything right. The only drawback was that a coworker ordered a shortbread cookie and they were out, but they made up for it by putting in 2 cookies of a different variety. The delivery was really fast too, maybe 20 minutes? Perfect when you have a set lunch time. Make note that you can order online and if you do, you can modify things much easier and they'll fave options available to you that you hadn't even thought of (like sub X variety of bread on this sandwich, or upgrade to a cup of fruit for a side). read more

This was my first time at this location as this store has only been open a few months. Best selection of bagels I've seen anywhere in the area. The asiago cheese bagels are fantastic. It's been a year since I've been here and lots has changed! They now offer delivery and rapid ordering, and the food is brought to you now. I went with my family and we all ordered the you-pick two combos. Everything was delicious- My top faves are the mac n cheese, french onion soup, Asian sesame chicken salad, Chicken soba salad, and the flatbreads. Service is fast, portions are huge and the place is clean! Always love my local panera. read more

My wife and I have been here quite a few times since we moved into this area and the food and service are always great. Never had a problem with the cashiers nor our orders, the occasional missing baguette, but that is an easy fix. The seating is comfy and the wifi is reliable. My fav item is/was the chipotle bacon chicken sandwich with the tomato soup in a bread bowl. Sadly that item is no longer on the menu. My ONLY complaint is not about this store at all, just how the menu keeps changing every time we visit. If corporate can keep the menu the same, I would be much happier and come back more often. read more

I went to a Panera tasting last night at my local Panera to try two new salads (chilled shrimp & soba noodle salad and strawberry poppyseed & chicken salad), corn chowder, avocado crostini and cinnamon scones. They were all very good. All of us ( i took two of my daughters and a friend.) loved the scones. They were moist and tasty. Plus, we got to make and take home our own baguettes which they baked. That takes about 30 mins., so make your bread first. read more

We ordered the Baja Mac & Cheese without the pico de gallo, a grilled cheese with avocado, a French onion soup, and the modern caprese sandwich. The Mac & Cheese still had pico de gallo on it, the grilled cheese didn't come with avocado, and the soup was missing the cheese and croutons. We took this to go so we didn't know until we got home. There is always something delicious at Panera! Most recently I ordered the Turkey with Caramelized Kale panini which was very tasty. The black bean soup -yum-is a go-to for me, even in the summertime. The watermelon strawberry frozen lemonade is a refreshing treat! Panera can be a bit pricey but they do have customer rewards and specials for bakery items on a regular basis. read more

The food was fine, but the place was a mess. Carpets looked to have not been cleaned in weeks. Bathrooms hadn't been cleaned either. We have also eaten @ different Panera Cafes around the Tidewater area and around the country and the food at the Panera on Battlefield Blvd is the worst one we have ever experienced.
