Mind you, a half sandwich, soup, chips and a drink will quickly elevate to almost $25+ (not including being strongarmed for a tip) making the pilgrimage far less enticing. This location just consistently gets worse! Today I walked in to pick up a breakfast order. As I walked through the door an XL bulldog was lying spread out on the carpet facing the door, very intimidating. The Thursday before I was eating breakfast at a table with my neighbor and her 3 lb mini chihuahua. The male manager who is balding and has an accent, was incredibly rude (as always) and badgered us about the small dog, "all dogs need to be under the table." Then he continued to preach to us and then asked it the dog was a service dog and I said Yes and lifted the leash part that has the insignia. When I approached him today about this enormous pit, he said the man is a loyal longtime customer, I said me too! This manager hates women, I have observed how he treats female staff too. Still he stays as manager. Make it make sense! Their breakfast sandwiches are the only thing that is ok. I will never go back to this location or any other Panera. The customer service was terrible. They made a big deal out of giving me a discount on a cookie, after I paid $32.00 for my meal. The cashier had just given me my change. I asked for a cookie to be added to my meal and she said there was nothing she can do. The manager came and pretty much had the same attitude. Panera has a sweet spot in my heart since I spend a lot of time here for work. They always have plenty of seating so you will have no problem getting stuff done. The food isn't as bad as people think. They have a bunch of different pastries too including cookies/croissants/muffins etc. I like the soup and salads for lunch. The good news is you can get decent food at a good price. You probably won't be wow'd but who cares. Its Panera. read more

It took 1 hour to prepare my $90 order for 7 people! At least my food was ready on time and decently put together, for a change. If you haven't noticed, the salad bowls have gotten shallow, while the price has gone up. The Greek salad for which I paid $8.19 was pathetic! Not a huge fan. I'm disappointed because they are often out of main ingredients and they take a long time to fill orders. I've ordered ahead with the app a few times in the past two months, and most of the time that 8 minutes stretches to a half hour. I ordered a Cuban sandwich, they were out of ham. I ordered the poppyseed salad, they were out of mandarins. One day they lost my order completely & I had to show it to them on my phone. A lady who was there waiting had the same issue, but she didn't have the confirmation with her because a coworker had placed the order. By the time the coworker was able to get the email confirmation over to her, their meeting was over. I keep hoping things will improve because I like their soups & salads, but the Paramus location is much more customer savvy. read more

This Panera used to ALWAYS mess up something about my order. I found this amusing, since they have to give a free pastry when this happens. Why lose money instead of doing your job correctly? The soups are very good, but the temperatures can vary. The chicken on their chipotle chicken sandwiches is absolutely disgusting. This only recently became an issue, so I'm not sure what happened. Fast and friendly service in a neighborhood location. If you live around here, you know that most Panera Breads in the area are located in strip malls or along the sides of highways. This one is very different in that it's located within the confines of a local street in Fair Lawn. Service here is generally pretty good and the food is what you expect from a Panera. This place is always busy. Food and soups are almost always good. But! The service could be spotty, for example I ordered a couple of soups and they come with bread, well they threw a couple of hand ripped pieces of bread in the bag. I guess they didn't have a knife! I ordered a you pick two combo. I ate the Sandwich first, at this point I kind of wish I didn't. The reason I say that is because while eating my soup, I found plastic wrap in it. First of all you have to realize that absolutely no one at Panera in Fair Lawn speaks English. No one. Not the help and certainly not the patrons. The line is ever so slow as the Spanish speaking woman behind the counter trys to decipher what the Russian speaking woman is trying to order all while a plethora of kids are screaming loudly, probably because they've been waiting 45 minutes for their food. The fascinating thing is that this occurs whether there are 3 people on line or 30. You see, at Panera the woman who takes your order is also responsible for brewing your latte, toasting your bagel or just about anything else that doesn't require the dedicated cooking staff. Which brings me to the menu. They took something fairly straight forward and complicated the crap out of it so it no longer makes any sense. Even with the incredibly long wait to order I still couldn't figure out how the hell it worked. There are regular prices, you pick 2 prices and other prices, none of which I fully understood. The food is decent but in recent years the portions have shrunk as the prices have increased. again, not great. There is, however, free wifi which means outcasts who were perhaps thrown out of Starbucks for ordering a cup of coffee and sitting on their iPads for 8 hours can and do congregate here. Talking about congregating, there is a lot of it at Fair Lawn Panera. Loud foreign dialects and laughing screaming junior high school kids can often be heard competing for your attention. So kids, if you are in the mood to wait for a really long time to order semi healthy, over priced food while being exposed to loud noise I highly recommend it. Otherwise, stay the hell away. I do. One more thing....When you order, in addition to asking your name, they ask for your phone number. While I can certainly understand this for a delivery, asking it when you order at the counter can only mean that you are going to get annoying Panera promotional text messages. The award for NJ's worst Panera location goes to the Fair Lawn location. They never have any of the basic items (meats, cheeses, etc.) and forget about trying to get special menu items. On my most recent visit, I was unable to have my sausage sandwich, cold brew Madagascar coffee, and there was some serious confusion over an everything bagel and honey walnut cream cheese. I asked for a refund twice because I was going to be very late to work. I was issued a refund by a manager after a seemingly long period of time. They sent me off with the bagel and cream cheese I originally ordered and a cold brew without the vanilla cream. I'll give it one star because you can't leave zero stars, but don't bother eating/ordering at this location. Paramus is the next town over, and there are 3 Panera locations that are competent and well stocked, even during peak hours. read more

You can never go wrong with Panera. The free wi-fi, big menu, and choice of bread, apple, or chips..! I ordered to go the first time and I was surprisingly impressed too that I asked for a later pick up time but my tomato soup was still warm. I especially love how I can get a half sandwich half salad combo for a little more. Just be sure to avoid the peak times as it can get crowded. read more
