Bistro French Onion Soup Bread Bowl~ Hubby loved late lunch!
    Rachelle P.

Hubby and I had been running errands and looking for a great late lunch option to take our baby and goldendoodle. We happen to see this location nearby and decided to stop in for outdoor dining! Stopping in I noticed all the ordering was on a touchscreen, which I hadn't seen before. I would definitely recommend this nice Folsom location! We ordered the Bistro French Onion and Creamy Tomato Soup Bread Bowls. My husband, our baby and I loved our late lunch! Great service! We're looking forward to returning soon to try more of their varied menu! SYOY! :-) *Song Credit: Came Like Thunder by Rob Fevas ⁣⁣⁣

I've been to this location about six or seven times in the past decade, most recently October 1, 2023. Overall, my experiences have been good. There is a free parking garage for the Palladio (plaza) right next to the Panera, and I have always been able to find parking close by. The Panera has been clean, never too busy, and comes with a ton of outdoor seating, as many restaurants feature in this tony plaza. There are also four self-service ordering machines at the entrance. The fresh-baked bread and pastries have always been well stocked, even later in the day. The Wi-Fi has also been reliable and fast with plenty of tables with electric receptacles in case you need to charge a phone or plug in your laptop. When I was taking pictures of the large menu placed on the wall behind the registers, an employee even came from the kitchen, ready to assist me. I usually order self-service, but I have noticed the line has never been too busy and employees are quick to take your order. My one complaint is because of a clueless employee, I would call her. I ordered a pastry on October 1 for dine in. She placed it in a paper pouch and handed it to me. I said to her I ordered it for dine in. She it was ready for dine in. Now normally, at other Panera Breads, for pastries for dine in, they serve them to you on a plate with utensils. She asked me what I needed, and I said a fork and knife. I just assumed she would hand me a plate too, because you don't normally eat with utensils on a bare table or napkin. But she didn't hand me one. I didn't feel like giving her more instructions, so I just took the utensils. It was not a huge deal, but I left underwhelmed. She was young, so I'll give her a pass, but that's why I took off one star. Panera Breads have been pretty much the same everyway I have been to. This one was no different. I would go here again.

It was good but the pepper had a hint of burnt so it gave a bitter taste to the dish. - Salt & Pepper Calamari: Not bad but not the best. It was fresh but may have been overcooked or cooked too fast since it was a little tough. - Salt & Pepper Shrimp: Flavorful and was better than the calamari. Flour coating was not too thick so it was enjoyable. - Beef & Broccoli: Broccoli were cooked well. They had a nice crunch. The dish was saucey but was not as flavorful as I expected. Also the sauce was not as thick as well. It was more running. - Fried Rice: It was good but not something to rave about. - Chicken Chow Mein: The kids loved the chow mein. It was better than expected. It had a light flavor that made the dish taste delicious. The noodles were not chewy, tough, or too soft. It was also not lathered in oil. As for the chicken pieces, they were tender and easy to chew. Service: Very friendly and attentive. They also welcoming and observant. That made things easy for us so we didn't have to ask for anything.

Of note, we visited Japan earlier this year, so eating here reminded us of all the good food we'd had in Japan and brought back memories of so many amazing restaurants! First, since it is in the outdoor mall, parking is not an issue. When we entered, the staff was quick, courteous and seated us immediately. You have the options of table seating, picnic table style seating or counter seating but no views. We were seated at the picnic style table. We ordered the Asahi draft, premium sake flight (kikusui, yaegaki mu, demon slayer), kara-miso ramen and a pork katsu don. The service was the quickest we have had in a while! They also have an offer running right now - 50% off draft beers with the ramen/rice bowls/katsu sets. While each of the sake glasses (300 ml) was priced at $20-25, the premium flight was $14 and I got to taste the 3 top junmais they had - junmai, junmai ginjo, junmai daiginjo. That is an unbeatable deal because I'm pretty sure it came to 1.5 glasses of sake in total for 60% of the price. Food-wise, both portions were large and absolutely top notch! The donburi was mild and the katsu was made perfectly - light, crispy, pork shining through. The kara-miso ramen is their spicy option and it was definitely spicy! The noodles were great, as was the pork and the eggs in it. We couldn't finish everything so took some home. Pricing wise, it is reasonable - we paid $71 for everything and had the time of our foodie lives. The staff is so friendly! All in all, we were so happy to have found this place and will definitely come back to eat more :)

For years, they've been the only consistent game in town, so they've had the market cornered. Unfortunately, it feels like they've gotten comfortable. The pho noodles routinely come out stiff, and when I request my steak on the side, it often arrives brown and partially frozen--sometimes still thawing from the freezer. The broth is weak and tastes mass-produced, they skimp on the limes, and the basil has virtually no flavor. The staff is friendly, but the service often feels rushed, like they're more interested in getting you in and out than creating a memorable experience. Even after seeing the same customers for years, there's little sense of recognition or personal connection. With Tran Kitchen Vietnamese now serving traditional, flavorful Vietnamese food in town, Pho ABC really needs to wake up and step up its game. Competition is a good thing, and hopefully it pushes them to bring the quality back to where it used to be.

Service was ok. Remodeled to a modern ambience which I thought was simple and nice compared to other pho establishments. We started with Goi Nem Nuong (grilled pork spring rolls) - this was actually really good and served warm. We also grabbed the salt and pepper calamari. Batter was crispy, calamari was chewy but was a tad oily. Flavor was there. Pho N Roll noodles came up short. We order (2) special Pho (Dac Biet) and BBH in large size. Ordered a small Pho Tai Gan for our little one. While there was ample noodles and broth in portions, the flavor was lacking. Pho and BBH were both on the bland side. BBH was not spicy or savory. Most noodle options have 4 sizes (XS, S, L and XL) however the specials only have 3 leaving out XS which makes sense. Conveniently located with ample parking as it shares a center with ranch 99, Starbucks, etc. They have a really large menu!
