PHOEVER? More like PHOGROSS... or PHOEVER REGRET. Took my dad to a doctor's appointment in Folsom and figured we'd knock out a DMV stop since this location is usually less chaotic than the others. After surviving that, we were hungry. I was thinking ramen, but Dad wanted pho, and conveniently there was a pho place in the same shopping center as the DMV. What could go wrong? We walked in to an empty restaurant, red flag number one, but we were seated right away. I ordered the bun bo hue. Dad ordered the pho beef ribs. He also asked for a black Vietnamese coffee but was told they only had the creamy version. That was fine. Food arrives and wow. Was this pho made with warm tap water? Zero aroma. Zero depth. Zero soul. The pho had no fragrance whatsoever, and the bun bo hue somehow managed to be just as flavorless, which is honestly impressive. The Vietnamese coffee tasted like it came straight from a powdered packet mixed with a sugar factory. Definitely not authentic, unless authentic now means dessert in a cup. We decided to stop by for lunch after getting pedicures at Paris Nail Spa next door! To drink we ordered the Original Milk Tea w/ Boba and Mango Smoothie w/ Boba. I tried a sip of hubby's milk tea and their black tea is soo good!! My smoothie was sweet and refreshing. For lunch we ordered the #5 Phở Special and Bánh Mì w/ Grilled Chicken and Fried Egg. Hubby and tot will be craving this Vietnamese noodle soup Phởever, filled with Beef Brisket, Filet Mignon, Tendon and Beef Ribs! Their Vietnamese sandwich is soo good, the best I've had in a hot minute! A staff member said this is her favorite one!! This small business opened just last year, they offer a varied menu of authentic Vietnamese food! They are known for their Sugar Cane juice as well, but unfortunately were sold old when we visited! The menu is very limited, they are out of stock of items, and the quality of my drinks were marginal at best. The place itself is older and not well organized. I had to navigate around some tables and signage to get to the order counter and the POS system to pay. If you are looking for Vietnamese food only, this may be the place. The fact that nobody was there at 6PM on a Friday night felt like a big red flag to grandma but on the strength of reviews we went in any way. Service was really bad. Server didn't speak any English (learned after the fact) so the ids did not get the pho split to two bowls and the server had head nodded to and seemingly agreed with. After then asking for two small bowls, we had to then keep walking up and asking for utensils, then napkins, then more water, scissors, more water. You get the point: service was absent! The grilled pork chop plate was just sad. Zero grill marks, maybe more of a curried marinade then pan fried? I dunno but it was flavorful just not in the traditional rice plate I've had for decades. The plate also lacked the cucumber and tomatoes side salad. Wasn't given a proper steak knife to help. Grandma seemed to be ok with her shrimp spring rolls. I tasted the pho, enjoyed the flavor of the beef brisket still attached to the bone but after seeing the promptly closed the restaurants we paid by 7, I wonder how much they scraped up to serve us. I recently moved to the area and craved pho after a library trip with my toddler, and now it's a tradition to visit this spot at least once every two weeks (trying to cook more at home ). Pho and BBH was delicious. The BBH had all the ingredients and wasn't just a whipped up dish with just beef and ham (cha lua) ike the other Americanized pho places in the area. My wife and I stopped by on a Friday and had a fantastic experience. The food was excellent, and our server was incredibly kind and attentive. It's clear the restaurant is new, which is exciting, and it has the potential to become a regular spot for us. That said, I have a few thoughts: 1) The menu is displayed differently in three places: on the window outside, on a display screen inside, and on the printed menu. Consistency across these would make things clearer. 2) I'd love to see Bún Thịt Nướng added to the menu. 3) Personally, I found the dark gray walls a bit uninviting. While the paint is fresh, it gives the space a heavy, institutional feel--almost reminiscent of the nearby DMV. A lighter color could create a more welcoming atmosphere. 4) The prices seem a bit higher than similar restaurants, but I understand the challenges of being a new business. When we sat down, Christina gave us the menu which had a variety of soup, appetizers, and a couple plates. I understand that they have only been there three months, but I know they are trying things on the menu and see what works. There are a couple of vegetarian dishes and they all looked wonderful. I want to come back and try the different dishes. This place is amazing and the Vietnamese coffee was delicious! I ordered the number five soup bowl, which was huge! It included all the fine meats that are included with phō. My friend and I were laughing because we were eating for 30 minutes and we both looked at each other's soup which looked like we haven't even made a dent in them. The portions are huge and on a rainy cold day it was perfect. I like the new furniture which are booths that can fit up to four people. The furniture was comfortable and can even be private! The ambience was great with soft music playing and a very quiet environment. This is a perfect place as parking is easy, wheelchair accessible, no stairs and warm inside. Christina kept checking on us to make sure everything was great! So, with the food, customer service, ambience, and very easy to get to, I give this restaurant five stars! If you're ever in the Folsom area and you're looking for a bite, I cannot recommend this place enough. It's a family-owned restaurant with amazing service and a very welcoming ambiance. We ordered the Bun Rieu, Bo Luc Lac, a Roasted Pork Banh Mi and a bowl of the Pho Special. The Bun Rieu had such a deep, rich and savory flavor profile. The Bo Luc Lac is my go-to item at any Vietnamese restaurant and this place truly delivered with this beloved dish. Oh god, the Banh Mi were not only delicious, THEY WERE MASSIVE. Coming in at the size of my forearm, every bite was packed with the beautifully roasted pork that was oh-so tender but still managed to keep that crunch. And lastly, the Pho Special. What more can I say other than the fact that it lives up to the name: the beef rib falls off the bone and the broth was so simple yet it was executed so well. Each item was authentic and you can really tell they were made with tender love and care. It's a true hidden gem in Folsom. The owners daughter was our server she was super sweet and welcoming. We came when they were almost closing and she let us have dinner. She didn't rush us !
