Well this is probably the best Asian food I have ever eaten. The duck rice noodle soup was fantastic with jalapeños and bean sprouts served separate so you can add according to your taste. The chicken chow mein was the best chow mein I've ever eaten - nothing like the usual flavor in most Chinese restaurants, instead totally fresh tasting with a great spice taste. My wife had the Bahn Minh (?) sandwich/roll and, when she finished, said that she just wanted to start all over again. Really a great place. The disappointment has truly set in. I've been eating at Pho ABC off and on for many years, but the quality continues to decline. For years, they've been the only consistent game in town, so they've had the market cornered. Unfortunately, it feels like they've gotten comfortable. The pho noodles routinely come out stiff, and when I request my steak on the side, it often arrives brown and partially frozen--sometimes still thawing from the freezer. The broth is weak and tastes mass-produced, they skimp on the limes, and the basil has virtually no flavor. The staff is friendly, but the service often feels rushed, like they're more interested in getting you in and out than creating a memorable experience. Even after seeing the same customers for years, there's little sense of recognition or personal connection. With Tran Kitchen Vietnamese now serving traditional, flavorful Vietnamese food in town, Pho ABC really needs to wake up and step up its game. I placed an order through the website for pick up. The service was prompt, and the staff was attentive, checking to make sure the order was complete. It was easy to find parking in the parking lot. I usually order the Bo Bun Hue, and had to order it again this time. The dish had a delicious broth and assorted meats. However, the vegetables did not appear particularly fresh and the noodles were a bit undercooked. We also ordered the pho with beef balls and the beef balls were delicious. However, the noodles for this dish were also undercooked. I've ordered these dishes before and this is the first time that these problems occurred. We were in Folsom running some errands and I wanted Vietnamese food. I have been on a bun bo hue streak lately and saw that Pho ABC had pretty good reviews in general, especially for their price point. I also read that their BBH was spicy, and was excited to try it. It was busy for a Monday, but that made sense given the holidays. We were quickly seated. My husband went with beef stew egg noodle soup, and I went with the BBH and a Thai tea w/ boba. My drink was first to arrive and I was happy to note that it did not come pre-mixed w/ the milk. I enjoy stirring my own Thai tea. It had a good strength to it and the boba was perfectly chewy. I had a sip of the beef stew broth and it was delicious. My husband was happy to report that the meat was tender and there were plenty of carrots and other veggies. The whole dish was cohesive and one of the better beef stew noodle soups we've had. My BBH was indeed spicy!! It was the spiciest BBH I've had tbh and I did not have to add any additional chili oil or sate. I was pleasantly surprised to find that my plate of fixings came with shrimp paste. Usually I have to ask for it since not everyone can deal with the funk. I got plenty of meat, which was all super tender! I did not get a pork knuckle but for $14 it was fine (I usually pay $16+ for BBH, and that comes with the knuckle). The broth was rich and piping hot, and hit all the notes that I expect when I have BBH. Unfortunately, the noodles were overcooked. I was a little disappointed about this because everything else about my bowl was great. I also noticed that everyone's orders were coming out extremely quickly. Pho ABC seemed pretty efficiently run, and service was fine and fast. The pho looked really good too. I would definitely return to Pho ABC to try their pho and other dishes! The restaurant is a a good size and capable to seat big groups along with small groups/solo diners.
