The Blue Palmetto Café at Bok Tower was a solid stop during our visit. At Bok Yower. We kept it…read moresimple -- regular fries, sweet potato fries, an iced coffee, and a tomato and cheese salad -- but everything was fresh and well prepared. Sorry we forgot to get photos... we just dug in, that's how good it was. The fries were hot and crispy, the sweet potato fries had great flavor, and the iced coffee hit the spot after walking the gardens. The tomato and cheese salad was light and refreshing, perfect for the Florida weather. It's not a huge menu, but it works. The setting makes it even better -- being able to sit, relax, and recharge surrounded by the beauty of the gardens adds to the experience. Simple food done well in a peaceful setting. It complemented the day perfectly.

The menu is somewhat limited. It features mostly salads and sandwiches. They offer a small selection of draft beers. Customers order at a counter and receive a stanchion to place on their table. Staff delivers food to the table once it is prepared. We shared a Vegan Chickpea Salad Sandwich with a Mozzarella Caprese Salad. The sandwich was served on toasted panini bread with a scoop of chickpea salad, lettuce, and tomato. They were busy with an after bell tower concert crowd, but the service was efficient and timely. I enjoyed the meal and recommend it to visitors.

The only thing that stayed the same was the name. The entrance is now off the parking lot -- rather than through the back porch or (former) front door. You enter into the bar/counter room. You have to wait to be seated. There's a large board with specials and market prices. If you haven't been here -- as we had not -- since the changes, the prices may come as a shock. Some fish are in the 30 and 40 dollar ranges. We saw several people see the prices and then leave. The free hush puppies and coleslaw are no longer. Even iced tea is now almost $4 a glass -- with no refills suggested or offered. I missed that they no longer have fried oysters, too. My husband was able to find his "go to" shrimp basket still on the menu. This was a decent price. And the shrimp were still lightly battered and tasty. It came with fries and coleslaw. I didn't care for the coleslaw -- a bit too much mayo for me. I got their shrimp and grits. The grits were in one solid cake. A rectangle that had been cubed and fried. They were just okay. A bit hard. The shrimp were good and the gravy not bad. But I wouldn't order this again. The dish comes with a side. They don't tell you, but some of the sides are considered "premium" and there will be an up charge. Make sure you ask so you're not surprised. The "crazy" in their name is now more appropriate. They really should offer a few reasonably priced lunch specials. We did not expect to have a $60 lunch (after tax and tip) -- especially not here in Lake Wales. But I'm glad we came and tried. Now we know.

We arrived a bit after 5 pm, too late to take advantage of early bird food specials but in time for happy hour (which ends at 6). This gave us 2-for-1 pricing on draft beer and house wine. We were seated immediately. By the time we left (around 6:30) there was a wait. We ordered drinks, and these and rolls were delivered with cinnamon butter and pats of plain butter. I ordered the Tuesday special, grouper "fingers," salad (soup is also a choice), and a sweet potato. My husband had linguine with chicken. Our server, Carmen, offered cinnamon butter for my sweet potato. Salad is tossed and plated at the table. It arrived well ahead of the entrées. We had the house-made ranch dressing. Overall, it was a pretty bland salad, mostly iceberg lettuce. The grouper was wonderful, lightly breaded and the perfect crispness. The portion of 3 filets was more than adequate. A small tub of Ken's tartar sauce was included. The cinnamon butter and sweet potato made an excellent combination and a great foil for the grouper. Everything was piping hot when it arrived. I wouldn't hesitate to order this combination again. My husband enjoyed his linguine. Given it was about an hour between when we were seated and when the entrées arrived, we thought the pace was rather slow. But the quality and quantity of food made up for it in my opinion.

The food was fresh and delicious, from the soft-warm-fluffy rolls to the creamy mouth watering cheesecake. The crab cake in the broiled platter was my favorite. My only complain will be that the cocktail and tartar sauce was not freshly made as it was from a packet and that the salad was previously frozen as some of the lettuce didn't thaw all the way. Nonetheless I will definitely return to enjoy another dish.

Nothing was overly salty and everything we ordered we would all order again. The Chef Salad was large and looked fancy with fresh vegetables and lettuce and meat and cheese roll ups. The Texas Club was a tasty chicken salad sandwich on crisp Texas Toast with a nice light taste. The Country Fried Chicken was moist, easy to cut with a fork and seasoned just right. We don't often find a fried chicken breast as nice as this one. The fried green tomatoes were plentiful and prepared just right and perfectly crisp. Our server today was Annabel and she was just as friendly and attentive as we wanted/needed. When we sat down, I was hoping this might become my new favorite restaurant and they lived up to that hope. We live close to an hour away but I'm thinking we may drive back for breakfast tomorrow. This is most definitely a highly recommended place to visit.
