I honestly wish this place would either shut down or get new management. The staff is loud and rude every time. I stepped into their tiny "meeting room" just to take a phone call because the restaurant was so noisy, and the manager walks in with, "ummmmm yeah, this is $50 for 2 hours." Newsflash: nobody is hosting business meetings at the Rivergate Panera. Relax. Another time, I sat down to wait for my food and no one told me it was ready. The taste was far from satisfying, and it seemed almost watered down. The steak and cheese baguette was equally disappointing. The meat portion was extremely sparse, and what was there didn't have much flavor. The bread itself was toasted, but the sandwich overall felt empty and unbalanced, with too much bread and too little filling. In summary, both the soup and sandwich felt "shy" in both taste and portion, leaving much to be desired. Not the hearty, comforting meal one would hope for at Panera. I often rely on Panera for early morning meetings. There is nothing like a little culinary bribery to perk people up and make an early morning meeting seem not so bad. I usually grab bagels to bring to these meetings and as an added bonus on Tuesdays, they have a special on a baker's dozen of bagels. The staff here was friendly, though a bit slow. Hey, it was early morning, I get it. Panera locations are usually bright and cheerful and this location was no different. The inside was geared to be pleasant and comfortable. It was in a shopping plaza, so parking was definitely not a problem. All in all, I would definitely recommend this particular Panera Bread location and I give it five stars. Be advised that this is for their breakfast options. read more

For years I have been a loyal customer with no problems, until the past two orders. Why do they even have quality check on the process. Last time I got a Mediterranean Chicken salad and they gave me the one with no chicken. Today I ordered a French Onion soup and salad. Great staff! I just came in at 7:35pm after going to krispy cream and Starbucks down the street from this location, and Dutch brothers. All of them didn't have enough coffee for 6 people. Six large coffee yes Starbucks KK AND DB all had no coffee left. Panera actually didn't have much left and when I explained to the lovely young woman "Sam" helping that I'm getting it for our construction men (working nights at the mall across the rd, in the cold) she said "well I can make you a box fresh". My food was good, but I got a Baja Bowl with no chicken. This was my first time In Panera Bread, and I didn't know the procedure to getting your food. I just followed suit from the customers in there and walked to the counter. The other customers told the lady their name so I proceeded to do the same. I had just taken my order so I thought that was the procedure. I told the lady my name and she said "Ma'am it's not ready yet..it's not ready yet" I told her I was just giving her my name that's all. I go back inside to let the lady in the kitchen know and instead of just acknowledging that it may have been an error on the cashiers part...she dang near tried to make it like I was wrong instead of just fixing it. This was an African American lady that I'm assuming was the manager. She had a short hairstyle with glasses and twists/dreads. I didn't appreciate the customer service AT ALL with this being my first time at Panera! I heard her talking to the other girl in the kitchen with her while the girl asked her a question as well. She told the girl WITH AN ATTITUDE "Idk I'm doing 3 things at once right now." If I was a food reviewer or a person in higher management, this could've gone a completely different way. Ordered some breakfast items for delivery at a customer site and they forgot to include the most important part of the order; the $27 coffee tote! Called the restaurant and went through their automated menu to get to a person that could help. No one ever picked up so I had to call back and try another option. When I finally reached someone I was assured they would bring the coffee tote right out. Never arrived and now I have to fight for a refund for that item. Well another restaurant that has gone down hill. Too expensive for what you get. Thinly sliced meat on sandwich on big bread, and then they give you more bread, which is all I tasted after this meal. I came to Panera to grab a healthy-ish meal in between errands. Panera delivered, as they always do. There is hardly ever a line at this location and their fast kiosk is awesome. It's always clean and very fast. The cashiers are friendly and helpful, suggesting items when you're torn between this or that. The cooks who serve up the food at the counter also always have a smile. This is a restaurant that caters to "lighter" fare. It's hard for me to feel uncomfortably full when I leave which is awesome. There's a variety of age groups every time I swing by. The one downside is that there is a homeless man who likes to yell at who sits next door, but that is in no way Panera's fault. read more

I frequent this Panera and usually always order online as it is generally busy at lunch time. I normally always get the same salads, a chicken avocado Cobb salad and substitute for the low sugar Asian dressing. LOVE! However the last order I made was a half flat bread half macaroni and cheese. It was delicious! I had half of a turkey cranberry flatbread with spiniach. When I was visiting in Madison over the weekend, I ordered the caesar salad and was disappointed to find it such poor quality. I returned my caesar salad to the counter because of wilted and stringy lettuce. i realized pretty quickly that this was not freshly prepared. Nor was it green at all, like in the photos. She went into the cooler, grabbed another handful "out of the bag" and added dressing to it. Then she gave the bowl back to me. She literally told me she had grabbed more out of the bag. It was the same poor quality. I've lived in Madison for 5 years and I really want to like this place because it's close to my home, but it's not kept clean and the line gets very long. If you want food to go, then use the tablet/kiosk and you'll get your order in good time. But the counter is consistently under-staffed and the bathrooms are never in good shape. I'll still come here sometimes for the space to write or have a chat with someone (there's good Wi-Fi), and I like the menu, but there's just something so grubby about the place. read more
