Panera has disappointed me twice now. My first experience had good customer service but the sandwich lacked flavor plus it wasn't toasted. Not worth what I payed. The second time, customer service was bad. There was a girl who clearly did not want to be there and it showed. She obviously had no patience with the customers either. I had a chipotle sandwich and didn't taste the chipotle until that last bite. The whole purpose of the sandwich was because I wanted flavor. The location is convenient. We have always loved Panera but not this one! The last time we were here we both wanted salads.....they were out of salad mix. So we could choose all romaine or all spinach....tonight we come for soup and this BAKERY is out of baguettes. Cant offer a piece of bread to replace the baguette? My choice to go with my soup is chips or an apple. Not even crackers available.... chips and soup is not what I had in mind. Not sure what the issue is here; seems as though management does not know how to order to have what they need available? I ordered a pick 2 and was charged for a pick 2 sandwich but a bowl of soup. So be sure to check your receipt. I got the corn chowder, which was tasty and hot. My SO and I both ordered half of the chipotle chicken sandwich with avocado. I think we shared the same sandwich when they made it and then just spilt it in half. Mine consisted mainly of cheese and avocado he seem to get all the chicken and no avocado. They had no Pepsi products at the time, which was a bummer. Just an 'ehhhh' visit. read more

The food is very nice. I really liked the mac and cheese. It was simply delectable with a perfect balance of creaminess and cheesiness. Additionally, the cheese sauce did not overpower the texture of the perfectly cooked pasta noodles. Of all the mac and cheeses I've eaten in my 7 years of living on the Monterey Peninsula it ranks a solid and respectable number 2. Overall the mac and cheese was a 9.1/10. read more

We had placed a rapid pick up order for 10:10. My husband had to sit and wait for over 35 minutes to finally get our order. They didn't even have our order on the list. They told him he was in the wrong store (he wasn't) and then they told him he wasn't suppose to be in the rapid pick up line (he was). I called and spoke with a manager who assured me she was printing the label right then and would hand the order to my husband herself. This did not happen. He still waited another 20 minutes after that. By the time we finally got our order, they were already out of the flavor of bagel I wanted- even though the store had been open for less then an hour. This place is so nice to just walk-in and eat for lunch. It reminds me of a Starbucks but a Starbucks restaurant. Everything I've had has been really good. Their kitchen sink cookie, TBE. It's dim and cozy inside, very comforting. Their displays are full of goodies and the restaurant is very clean. This Panera is the nicest Panera I've ever been in. read more

Placed a big order for a wedding brunch a day in advance. We called to follow up later that day. They said it was no problem. We we arrived on time they hadn't even started the order. They ended up being a hour late. They didn't seem to care about the inconvenience nor thanked us for our business. What's even more frustrating is they weren't busy at all and got our order wrong. I have used Panera for catering work functions and just ordering lunch. Every time I have come into contact with an employee there, they are super friendly and positive. I usually order a salad for lunch and have never had any issues. The bread I get has been fresh, and the drinks on point. In the past when I had them deliver to Salinas, before the Salinas location opened, they had no problem coming out that far, and they set it up and made sure I had everything. Panera is a National chain with typical soups, salads, sandwiches, and baked goods. They do soups and breads very well. I am fan of their chocolate chip cookies as well. This particular location is clean and has helpful and friendly staff. They use a sensor to track where you are sitting and bring your food to the table for you. This is a nice touch that I imagine keeps customers coming back for the dine in experience. They also make a mean grilled cheese and tomato soup; a must try. Thank you Panera. read more

Happy to have a Panera Bread near my place of work. Been in twice since they opened their doors this week. For being opening week, the staff seemed primed and ready to handle the steady flow of customer traffic. The place looks great and is actually a lot bigger inside than it looks from the street. There's a glass-enclosed meeting room for hosting your next business meeting or gathering. I like the faux fireplace and the chic outdoor patio furniture-- they lend a warm and cozy touch. The Fuji Apple Chicken Salad and the Mozzarella & Tomato Panini are so far my favorites. The Chocolate Croissant hit the spot with a warm cup of fresh-brewed coffee. Coffee is freshly brewed throughout the day with different roasts and blends available. I'm a huge fan of the bagels...I love the asiago and cinnamon crunch bagels with cream cheese. I never expected Panera to become my favorite place to study, yet here I am! I've always come here to grab lunch, because their pick-2 deal is the best, but I didn't realize they had free wifi until today. Free wifi, plenty of seating WITH outlets, and great drinks! Definitely beats Starbucks a few stores over, especially since I'm always struggling to find an empty seat there. It's much quieter here as well, and the ambience is great. Today I just got an iced green tea, but they also have smoothies, coffee, and other blended drinks. Their pastries look delicious too, although I've never tried one (yet). I'll definitely be coming here to study more often! read more

My Mom and I stopped here in the middle of a shopping marathon at Sand City, and were pleasantly surprised. Reviews of our Panera in Arroyo Grande are not good, but this was an any port in a storm situation, and Panera loomed large beside Ulta, our next stop. I ordered carefully, getting a half an Asian chicken salad, while my Mom plunged in with a half a Green Goddess Cobb salad, a cup of French onion soup, and for just 99 cents more, a pretty serious looking cinnamon coffee cake slice. Mom said she remembered Panera being just a bakery in the Washington, DC area, and the bread did look good! We sat down with some San Pellegrino water, and the cinnamon cake, which proved to be irresistible. A nice waitress brought out our soups and salads, along with some crusty sour dough bread (not really a baguette, but good sourdough). The French onion soup was tasty, and the new Green Goddess was a good idea with lots of avocado and chicken, but a bit much on the kale. My Asian salad was good, but missing two ingredients I love this salad for, fried wonton bits and crispy rice noodles. I will always opt for healthy food, and this reminded me of early health food restaurants, with healthy salads, but not quite gourmet. I thought for 21.00 for two people, this was a reasonable deal for lunch. There were lots of students studying with laptops around, and the ambiance was like a Starbuck's, but for lunch- CSU Monterey Bay is close by and this seems to be a study/lunch hangout. This made it seem like a low-key friendly cafe. We also ran into a friend who gives computer advice to users in the Carmel area, who was bopping in for a take-out lunch. I stopped in here to use the restroom while on a road trip back to Los Angeles. Everyone was very nice and helpful when I was ordering. I ordered a turkey avocado BLT for the road. I took my food into the car and when I unwrapped my sandwich, the bread was soggy and just looked really unappetizing. I returned it to the cashier and they immediately took the sandwich back to replace it with another. The manager refunded my money and even gave me a coupon to spend on my next visit. What I liked the most about the service was that people were not afraid to speak or explain the situation even after I had made a scene at the counter. They explained what could have happened with the sandwich - undercooked bread or vegetables that were overly washed with water and not throughly dried. I was hungry and it was really inconvenient to have to go back in and wait for a new sandwich, but overall they fixed their mistake and did what they could to compensate for my time. This is the first Panera Bread I've been to. Everyone always says how good this chain is. This must be the exception! I have no idea why people like this place so much. I wasn't going to post this review but I was coaxed into going back as a second chance and had the exact same experience. A quick summary of this place: The employees - Well what can you expect? I try not to have any expectations when it comes to a place like this. I would be surprised to see happy employees. No stars off for that classic "I hate my job" look. The atmosphere - Had to poke around a bit to find a clean table. The food - I had a salt and turkey sandwich, with lukewarm salt and broccoli soup, bread that was refrigerator cold on the inside and a cookie. The cookie was okay, and just from a glance you can tell the only thing fresh are the baked goods. Price - About 15 bucks or so. Save your money there are better places in that range. read more

I GOT FOOD POISONING THERE! I have never ate at Panera Bread before and so it was my first time going to the Sand City Panera Bread. I order their Pick Two, Tomato and Mozzarella on Ciabatta and Broccoli Cream Soup. I ate it in store and and went home. An hour later I couldn't stop vomiting. Once I stopped vomiting, I called the manager to warn them of FOOD CONTAMINATION! She had the most happiest tone and could not care less! She told me to come back to the store and she will give a refund. I told her that I was still too sick to return so quickly. She then said sorry and ended the call with "Thank you for calling Panera Bread." F.Y.I. Beside getting food poisoning, I regret not taking a picture of the food I received. Fast food places like Burger King has way better presentation than my ciabatta sandwich! My ciabatta sandwich had a flimsy tomato with a mozzarella cheese that was the size of two quarters laid next to each other. Food was definitely edible, and the facility was clean enough (I didn't visit the restroom). I recommend bypassing the order takers (who tend to ignore customers whom they don't know personally) and using the self-service tablets or the app instead. read more

It's bad enough the owners of Panera are big Trump supporters, now this location has taken a dive to the bottom of the barrel. I watched as an employee in the kitchen pulled down her mask below her nose and proceeded to wipe her nose, clean the edges of her eyes and (get ready for it) stick her fingers in her ears all the while conversing with two other employees, one of which seemed to be the manager. And no she did not wash her hands following this body exploration. She did not touch our food so I said nothing just as her manager had said nothing. I have had a few complaints for awhile. They keep making salads smaller, not only the container but it was half full and the dressing are inside the bowl which take up space. The salads are half the size they used to be when they came in a box. Today I tried them again, and when I got home the Baja bowl is half the size it used to be. The container is a bowl which is very small and I'm not happy about it. Is this how they make up for the loss of business by giving us less and less food. Why do they have so few people working now, so they can save on that also? Customer service is lacking and so are portions. Baja bowl is tiny for over $10.00. Not a happy customer. read more

I use this place constantly for work lunches. Rarely do they get my order right. They always tend to forget something in my deluxe sandwich catering order. Food was good once I finally got my correct order and could enjoy it. The cashier was very friendly in taking my order, answering questions, and letting us modify a sandwich. I asked to use a $2 off reward for a ham sandwich and the cashier failed to select the discount. Upon realizing this later, I had to wait a while at the counter while the manager problem solved a refund & charged the correct amount. Apparently using a gift card to pay part of the balance messes up their refund process. The soup I wanted was unavailable and I was offered plain yogurt as a side that I ordered and then found out that they don't actually sell it! Meanwhile, food arrived at my table and the sides brought were incorrect. Instead of strawberry yogurt, plain yogurt, chips, and a baguette. I recieved 2 strawberry yogurts and 2 chips. I had to return to the counter again to get it fixed and felt like I was being treated like a nuisance. SMH read more

Absolutely excellent food! From pastries to soup everything is great! However, it seems that no matter what time I go to this location it's a guaranteed 45 minute wait. Although, I have to disagree with some other reviewers: I've never experienced anything less than friendliness and politeness from the employees. They're slow! But nice. If there are three people in line before you? Expect to wait 30 minutes or more. For a restaurant that clearly wants the lunch crowd they have pretty much made it impossible to get in and out quick enough. Not to mention they always have at least one register without an employee manning it. It really ruins my impression of a restaurant when the line is to the door, only two registers are manned and the manager is just wandering around. Get on a register! It won't hurt you, and it will make all those people waiting in line think you actually care a little. They also removed two registers to put more of the quick self-order things that only work correctly about 50% of the time, making the lines even worse. I've been to this location a significant amount of times since they opened. However, unless they get their act together I won't be able to keep going. read more

My father is a General Manager of a Panera and so Panera has been in my life for a LONG time (like I almost used to live in a Panera Bread that's how much I am familiar with Panera). So this results in me being both compassionate and critical in my review. After moving out to the central coast, Panera was one thing I missed a lot. The closest was Gilroy! So when Seaside opened a Panera I was overjoyed and went to go get my fix.. I love how technology is being intertwined, my Dad's restaurant still has not gotten the Kiosks that let you make orders on ipad type devices. I was a little dismayed however when I was signing (with my finger as instructed) to pay for my order that the screen glitched and exited the program. I knew this was not the fault of the staff. I asked an employee who got the manager and the manager doubled checked that my order (and credit card transaction) did not go through. They also ushered me ahead of others for my order to be re-taken with an employee. Lacresha was pleasant, quick, efficient, and got our order correct; all very much appreciated. I will dink the food a bit, my french baguette was cold. Bread should be room temperature or warm. Drink and condiment area was clean and well stocked. The bathroom was clean and neat. The dining area overall was well-kempt. The staff seemed busy and professional, always good to see. A woman in the dining area asked us twice during our stay if we were doing okay. Also when I went to bus our table an employee offered to help us out and took our plates. I will return, next time skipping the kiosks and ordering with a staff-member.
