The food is decent but the service is SLOW. Even if you order online for a pick up, chances are high you are still going to wait for your order. Order at the counter and expect to wait up to 15 minutes just for half a sandwich. Prices are high and not worth what you get. And they are ALWAYS out of the broccoli cheddar soup. Went there the other day for breakfast. The young lady who took our order did a great job and answered our questions well. The food didn't take very long to arrive. The taste was above average. Why only two stars? This place is run down and was dirty. The restrooms had a soap dispenser torn off the walls with graffiti in other places. The wall corners were broken off in some places. This Panera used to be considered a go to , but not anymore! The staff is the worst ... no customer service whatsoever. Never pick up the phone or clean !!!! The management has the worst customer service and always have the worst attitude. They also treat the employees bad. I've heard it myself. The only positive experience I have received at this location is from an employee named Jamin. He is a hard working young man who actually tries. Hope they don't loose him to a better opportunity. When I went into Panera, it was Super clean, they had fast service, Great leadership skills displayed by Josiah the manager of the day team. Smiles all around the team. I Was recommended an Italiano sandwich that came prepped perfectly on fresh baked bread. It had great flavor and aroma. Also a cheddar broccoli soup with an amazing side of bread to dip and enjoy. Don't go here. This restaurant was filthy. The service was horrible. I would give 3 stars for the food but the diningroom was really dirty. The floor had food all over the place and the tables were dirty. When we stepped up to order the woman at the counter just stared at us, no greeting, no can I help you. Food well I didn't get my soup I ordered. Then when I went back to get it I asked for the tortilla chips to Go With it and they still didn't put them in the bag. I got home and my husband said his French onion soup was missing the cheese and croutons on the top and I looked sure enough it wasn't on it. I went In to pick up my order and there was two cooking the food or getting it in the bags and they were just talking and not paying attention, one at the register using a label maker to make a name tag for one of the other guys and the manager with paper work all over the counter. Not a fan. This was like my 5th time ever having Panera and I will never understand why people keep going. I had a gift card tonight, so that's my excuse. Nothing against this one in particular, they are just so ridiculously overpriced, it's just shocking. The sandwiches are not great and $10 each (I'm not even kidding- the amount of meat is A JOKE!) The soup is not huge for six dollars. They are both about 50% overpriced. I also hate that you can't build your own sandwich, because none seem super appealing to me. I mean, Subway is not ideal, but I would take it over Panera anytime bc at least you can get out for less than $15 a person and your sandwich kind of matches your tastes. Now that Panera Bread has matured in the fast casual marketplace, some locations are showing their age and/or have trouble getting good staff members. Dear Hubby and I stopped in to this Santa Maria location on the way back from our vacation in the Bay Area last week. Was pleased to see that everything looked clean and fresh (not beat-up and ready for a renovation like some of their stores). The order taker was friendly, and helpful with suggestions. I was not that hungry, but craving soup. I ordered a bowl of chicken with wild rice soup, knowing that'd be taking some home. The full bowl was a very generous size. Am not sure what they add to make their creamy soups so full-bodied, but they cook up a great texture. Ditto for their broccoli cheese soup, which I had recently at another Panera. I chose a chocolate croissant for dessert, and took more than half of that home, too. It's a very good-sized portion, with just the right amount of flaky pastry, not too sweet, and drizzled with delicious chocolate. This locale also had a particular soda flavor I like that's hard to find. I rarely drink soda any longer, so it felt like a bit of a guilty pleasure. Overall, we were pleased with our stopover. Good to get out of the cramped rental car for a bit! Noting that they have a fireplace in the center of the exterior wall of the dining room. Though it was on the cool side when we stopped in, the fire wasn't lit. It would add a cozy touch to the place. Hope to see it blazing next time! read more

I'm kind of surprised by how many negative reviews there are. Some are quite comical. This is a pretty standard Panera Bread, and a solid place to eat in Santa Maria. It is going to be a little expensive than a fast food restaurant, but this isn't a place like that. I'm in town a couple of days every few weeks and I'm here at least once or twice. The you pick 2 menu give you a chance to sample some soup, salad, sandwiches, pasta, etc. I like trying some of their new items on their menu and usually it's not too bad. If you also order a drink along with the You Pick 2 you get your choice of a discounted pastry item. Their drink bar area has a good variety of soda, iced teas, sometimes iced coffee. I like to mix and match some of the different brews. Parking: plenty of parking in the lot in the plaza, it can get busy during the lunch rush but that just means a farther walk. read more

You order your food at the counter and pay, then you are given a number to put on your table. They bring your food (soup, salad, or sandwiches, right?). But they DON'T bring you your smoothie. It's sitting back on the counter. When I got up to ask the counter fellow what happened..."where's my smoothie?" He got all snarky and said "I called you". I told him I didn't hear any call. He was kind of a dick. But really, how is getting your order delivered to your table convenient when you have to get up anyway to claim your smoothie? They want your profile just to order a salad and then every time you call them you have to go through a painful process again because there system doesn't save your information. Just ridiculous. I walk in, many plates are left on tables, dirty tables, trash on floor, etc. They have employees, but nobody seems to worry about cleaning up. And we're in the middle of the Pandemic! Only some teenage kid named Jamin actually have good service. Had a soup, super watered down. Even ordered delivery, order was wrong. Most employees don't seem like they want to be there. My husband swears they used to be better. I had the 1/2 turkey cranberry panini, 1/2 Asian sesame chicken salad. When it arrived I told the server that she had made a mistake because that was a hummus plate and caesar salad. She had to pick apart the sandwich to prove to me that it actually had turkey and cranberry. The turkey looked like a thin smear of hummus and the cranberry looked like someone wiped the back of a spoon on the bread to clean off a little jelly. There was no sign of the cheese. Lots of spinach. It tasted like a spinach sandwich. I literally could not taste the turkey or cranberry. I couldn't finish it. The salad was also unrecognizable as an Asian salad - in both looks and taste. My daughter got tomato soup and immediately said that it tasted like watered down pasta sauce. I tasted it and she was dead on. My husband got the BBQ chicken salad and said the sauce tasted weird. When we decided to get a quick lunch I was hoping for Jersey Mike's but my husband talked me into McPanera. I will NEVER be back. read more

Ok so I went here not wanting to go . I didn't order nothing but my friend ordered the cheddar broccoli soup . We left and came to my house while I had a bag of chips , I tasted my friends soup and OMG I was in heaven since then I've gone lots of times to order their soup in the bread bowl by far my favorite place for soup. Visited today had the U pick 2 the food is good as always. Outdoor dining is available now. Only 2 stars due to I'm my opinion not cleaning the tables per covid regulations. Matter of fact they didn't sanitize any tables and I was there for awhile eating lunch outside. I brought my own Clorox wipes but I think as a company they could do much better on keeping people safe during these difficult times. I have started to choose my restaurants based off their cleaning/sanitizing regimes and unfortunately will not be returning to Panera Bread any time soon. The reason why I rate this Panera Bread a 1 star is because recently I've noticed a change in staff? I no longer see Coral around. The staff members do not seem happy but much rather overwhelmed. I did see a man with a mask about 5'8 with his grey hairs "goatee" peaking outside his mask super DISGUSTING. (A mask should always be over your nose & covering your chin!) Especially while making food and during Covid.. They just seem to be trying too hard to make everyone happy under such a depressing environment.
