Hair in the salad !!! My partner was trying to convince me that $60 bucks to feed 2 adults and 2 kids at Panera was "not that bad" because Firehouse was closed, we ate at Kumo last night (last stages of moving), and he didn't want to listen to me and just go to Jersey Mikes for fresh sliced meat. So I looked at my meal to ponder the idea and unbelievably there was a hair in the dry ass salad you need to specifically request extra dressing for every darn time. Probably happened with someone reaching over the line and sat in an ingredient all day. We initially had to wait a few minutes before anyone would approach the counter bc we were paying cash and considered leaving; wish we did. I will say mgmt did not give me trouble with the refund- but I very clearly do not have this type of hair and I received my $17.00 back for a half salad and half sandwich. I also don't own pets. Biohazard quality, airport prices. Usually make the trip to Tuscan in Freeport or Royal River in Yarmouth but alas, I am forced to live in the sticks because of partner's work. We went into Panera because we were hungry and thought it was a safe choice. We spotted what we wanted to order from the posters on the walls. Everything was clean and bright. I was considering dessert because all their goodies in the bakery cases looked so yummy. I was excited to get a grilled veggie sandwich and an iced tea. My son also got a sandwich and he wanted a smoothie. It took quite a while to find what we wanted on the customer facing screen/register. I actually wanted to leave at this point. There were 'pages & pages' of options! Frustration was real! Although there were plenty of employees behind the counter, apparently, they aren't there to help customers with the ordering process. The bill was just over $40. Smoothie was overly expensive and came in a small-ish cup. Iced tea was unsweetened, which I like, but I was told they No longer had fresh lemon (or Real Lemon) to add. Sandwiches were alright, but we agreed that next time we'd do more research and not consider Panera a "definite safe choice" as we had in the past. We took our food to-go, but used the soda machine for tea and waited in the seating area. Restaurant was clean and well organized. read more

My wife and I go regularly to Panera in Topsham. The food is reliably good, and the ambience is relaxed and informal. Perfect for a pleasant lunch break! But it is the staff who keep us coming time after time. They are lways cheerful, helpful and friendly. I have dined in, taken out, used curbside, and gone through the drive through. Every experience at this Panera has been amazing! Every food item I have tried has been delicious, but my absolute favorite is the toasted Frontega Chicken sandwich! So good! And the bakery items are amazing! I highly recommend the bearclaw! The staff is always friendly and attentive, and the restaurant is always clean and comfortable. The only issue I've run into is when using the drive through being given a bag of chips instead of the baguette that I asked for, which has happened several times. But in the grand scheme of life, no big deal. I've had their breakfast, salads, soups, pizza, and sandwiches. The prices are on the high end, but in my opinion the food is worth it. read more

Yup, believe it or not, first time going to this place. My son recommended going, as he has been before. We went for lunch and I like the set up with the kiosks to order your food. Being that it was my first time, I took a little while, as they have a lot of options, from soups, sandwiches, pizza and a variety of hot and cold drinks. Also, with other kiosks, or order pads, whatever you may call them, people coming in didn't have to wait for me, as there were several others available. The place was busy and very clean and not loud, just right and casual attire. We split their new Margarita Pizza, and it was very delicious and a great price. We also each got a beverage and overall, compared to other places we've been for lunch, this was a good deal. Yes, I did give them a 5, as everyone was friendly, service/wait time and food were great. I'll definitely be back as first impression went awesome! read more

Thrilled to learn that they carry a chocolate chip bagel and there was a friendly gentleman working at the counter. That's the good. There was one customer in front of me being helped by the gentleman and I also realized there were three self-serve kiosks. I wanted to wait so I could ask some questions. As he was assisting the customer in front of me, another employee walked up to the register (and there has been no acknowledgement of my presence yet). The gentleman asked her for help and she said "I need to do exactly what I'm doing right now. What is it that you need help with?" She was rude and condescending to him. Now uncomfortable, I walked over and used the self service kiosk. Once I finished, he was no longer at the counter and the other employee appeared to be making my order. The first human interaction I had was when she handed me my ordered and walked away. I was provided an obnoxiously large bag with two toasted bagels floating around in the bottom and only half of the cream cheese I ordered. (Side note - they don't put the cream cheese on the bagel for you) I really hope the employee with an attitude was just having a bad day and doesn't always treat her peers that way... let alone ignores the customers. read more

Panera's food is pretty good. It's simple, hearty fare that you can feel good about eating. The prices are steep but the quality is generally good. The problem with the Topsham Panera is the overall lack of care the staff shows. They are incredibly ambivalent about the service they provide and the cleanliness of their location. They frequently run out of ingredients and don't bother to tell you unless you mention it to them. This has happened to me several times. They also will tell you that they are out of something when they don't really want to make it. When questioned they'll say, "well, we could make it, but it will take awhile". That pretty much sums up this location. It's much more about their comfort and convenience than it is about their customer's. read more

Note to management: the staff really needs better training in customer service. When we walked in, no one was in line, and two staff were behind the counter. One was bagging up a bunch of bagels, and the other one was simply stocking bread. For a solid 2-3 minutes, neither of them greeted us in any way or even made eye contact. All it takes is a simple "welcome, be right with you". Instead we awkwardly waited while they kept their backs to us. When the woman finally acknowledged our existence, she didn't even greet us. Not happy with product don't waste your money getting bacon tomato grilled cheese! Their tea is great, the bread & sweets fantastic but for this sandwich to pay what we did was very poor quality! The cashier was an older woman she was polite helpful & the younger woman with dark hair was not polite no please or thank you, no happy employees behind counter to pick up your food. Bathrooms were dirty we were there around 5 pm only a few people in restaurant. Ate dinner with a friend here on a random Thursday. There were 4 people in the entire establishment. Snowy evening. We ordered the pick 2, we both chose Chicken and Wild Rice Soup, and Tuscan Grilled Chicken Sandwiches. The sandwiches were Meh. The bowl of soup was half full, thick and ice cold. I went up to the counter to inform the staff, and was told they had no more soup. She motioned me down the hall to use the microwave, to heat up the 1/2 full bowl of goop. WHAT??? WORST customer service ever! We paid almost $30 for this nightmare meal. I called the manager, Chris Libby to inform him of this disappointing experience. I've never been a big fan but it is what it is. The desserts look beautiful in the display but often times are a disappointment when it comes to flavor and texture. The sandwiches are pretty good as well as the soup. Nothing really tastes homemade sort of like an upgraded subway sandwich that's a little prettier. The service was good and the restaurant was clean. On the upside it's a great place to have a business meeting and coffee or catch up on some computer work if you need Wi-Fi. It was served ice cold and was mostly lettuce and under ripe tomatoes on plain white bread. The bag of chips was also tiny. Even the lemonade tasted watered down. I've been going to this location for quite some time and really never had any issues.. but lately my orders have been wrong and twice I said something and the person behind the counter argued with me! Stopped at this location while driving home from Portland. It was around 1:30. Placed an order for a chicken sandwich & mac & cheese. There were alot of people already waiting. As the minutes wore on more & more people were complaining on what was taking so long. Several left with refunds, food came up with no claim because the person who ordered gave up, people were offering to just take the unclaimed orders because they were just going to be thrown away. While waiting I stood outside and warned new customers. I finally stood behind 4 other customers we all ended up getting a refund after 40 minutes. I love that there is a fast way to get clean food. I've had a couple careless mistakes here but nothing to pitch a fit about. Everyone makes mistakes. They're pretty clean and efficient. I have never seen a Panera that runs out of ingredients so much! Every single time I go there they are out of something. Croutons for a Caesar salad and French onion soup, no sourdough bread, no avocado. They don't mind charging full price though. I used to view Panera as a lovely alternative to fast food but I couldn't believe my eyes when my son and I each had a 1/2 soup 1/2 salad and a small drink for $30! Seems very excessive for "fast" food. If the company is going to charge such exorbitant prices then they need to be sure that they are fully stocked with ingredients.
