I was definitely not impressed with my latest trip to Panera. The amount of time I spent waiting for my order was painful. It was 10:00 am and I ordered thru the app for what I thought would be a quick order. Ordered a cinnamon bagel and chocolate croissant with a drink. When I walked in no one was in line and the electronic board showed my name first with prepping as the status. After ten mins the mgr asks do you want your cup so you can pour your drink? I was confuse because I didn't understand what was the hold up. Another ten mins went by and I finally got my two other items. Food quality rapidly declining over the past year. What's happening at this location?? A few months ago they stopped offering the orange-cranberry muffins and pumpkin muffins. Then the cinnamon rolls went from being fluffy, tall, and moist to being flat and dry like a hockey puck. I often get the breakfast sandwiches and noticed the biggest decline in quality with these items. They used to be full, freshly made, visually appealing sandwiches. They also looked (mostly) like the pictures on the app. Now they have become flat, squished, and nothing like the pictures. Check out the photo comparison I included. They are not worth the $6.59 price, which goes up to $7.89 if you get delivery and they increase the price of all items for that method! read more

We needed to pick up a large order for someone. It was due by 11:30. We showed up at 11:25. The woman named Trinidad working at the counter said that we were early. She let it be known we were early. Very rudely. She then proceeded to tell us that the order was coming from the Lynnhaven location. They could have told the person who ordered the food that it would be coming from Lynnhaven and prepared there. We would have just picked it up from there. As we sat there the person who ordered the food told us that Panera on Lynnhaven called and said they were delivering it to our location. Trinidad was just going to let us sit there and say nothing to us. The only positive thing I could say about this location was that it looked clean and they had ok music playing. I do love Panera and this is a first time visit at this store located in the Red Mill area of Virginia Beach. Parking is all surface and around the store. I found the lot and walks clear of debris. The storefront is hidden from the road and faces inward, so if you find yourself searching from the street your not see the sign. Like all Panera's they have a kiosk system to place the order yourself if you like. In my opinion this works best when their is a line which there was not early Friday afternoon when visiting. The young male staff was friendly and helpful with my son's order of chicken tortellini with side baguette. I got a chocolate chip cookie. The decor is obviously Panera, but each store has a bit of their own identity on floor plan. This plan seems to be smaller in square footage, but more than ample. Since the dining room is not deep lots of natural light flows to the rear. All tables not used were clean. The bus yourself trash area as well as the drink station were also clean. Our order was expedited by the store manager and took less than 10 minutes. My son reported that the taste of everything was good and since he ate everything I assumed this to be the case. My cookie was fresh and yummy! I would not hesitate in returning and would recommend others try. Panera as a chain seems to be consistently above average and this is why I return. read more

Dave and I were in the area and wanted to grab lunch. Line was super long- it was almost out the door. We decided to order our food at the kiosk station. We really liked the convenience of being able to look through the menu and select our order on the touch screen. Once you're done ordering you just grab a number and they'll bring your food out to you. You can also order from your table using their online app. Each table has a table number and after you place your order they can bring your food out to you. Very smooth and convenient food ordering process. Food was good. Dave ordered the Italian sandwich with chips. Chips were too salty. He also got a chocolate chip cookie which he said was perfect. The staff here has always been friendly and if there's been an issue, they will generally go out of their way to make you a satisfied customer. This Panera location is located at Red Mill near Outback. When I went in on a Sunday afternoon last week at around 6pm it was almost empty and I was promptly served my half sandwich (turkey bacon bravo) and salad. It was delicious as usual and I enjoyed a nice booth seat watching people and traffic for a while eating my wholesome food. Great location - great food. Panera has fresh sandwiches and sweets and food. I don't usually feel too bad about eating here unless I happen to get one of their sweet coffee drinks or some of their baked goodies but I usually am able to abstain. Yum. I ordered the pick 2: autumn squash & Napa sandwich with a passion green tea! It was a very hearty meal... really hit the spot! It's always clean and warm and inviting in here! The staff look happy to be there and happy to see you! They were very meticulous about keeping the tables clean. The fireplace was running, so it made for a cozy area to sit and dine with my friend Mel. So long as the product quality remains consistent, the advantage of the chain store is you know the Cobblestone roll you get at one will be like the morning Cobblestone at another. Service is so often the distinguishing factor and the visit this morning made the Panera the green Lego in the bag full of reds. Everyone in the store was not only courteous and helpful, each was smiling. Ordered the Chipotle Chicken Melt. The picture on the menu looks great, but don't be fooled what you get is not even close. I had maybe five small pieces of chicken, four on one half and one on the other half. The avocado was sliced in half only. Half with each half of the sandwich. I could not recognize any cheese at all. The Chipotle sauce was very light and the bread was very hard to chew, almost like a rubber band. Would definitely not recommend this restaurant.
