My boss has raved about this place on several occasions. When I saw we have a location right in Victoria Gardens, I decided I had to check this place out! I placed an order online for pickup and was given a pickup time. The place is very open, spacious and just has a neat vibe to it. I walked right up to the counter to give them my name for pick up and they said they were finishing it up. There were other people waiting for their orders as well. A couple minutes later, the gentleman behind the counter called out "Daniel" and the guy waiting next to me jumped right in and grabbed the bag and took off. I had wondered "I hope they didn't pronounce my name wrong and that was MY order." But didn't think much of it. Then the gentleman behind the counter asked me the name for my order. When I said "Danielle" he said "oh that was yours, the guy just left." He kind of looked at me like it was my problem to fix, so I took off after the guy and the employee followed me. Thankfully, the guy didn't get very far because he was verifying the order, so we made the exchange. Whew! I ordered the charbroiled chicken shish kabob with extra grilled veggies and a side Mediterranean salad as well as the hummus trio with sliced cucumbers instead of pita bread. The chicken kabob meal was delicious! The chicken was cooked to perfection and the option to add on more veggies was much appreciated! I was really excited about the hummus trio, but sadly I found it to be lacking flavor. With the 3 options of regular hummus, spicy red bell pepper and edamame, I was definitely expecting a flavor explosion, but it fell flat for me. $50 for less than a pound of meat? What.A.Rip.Off. We will not be returning. We've been customers of PKG for a number of years, and it was great (while it lasted). It started going downhill when they got rid of the PKG Rewards. We stopped going soon after that. For some reason, we decided to give a chance one more time a couple of days ago. Big mistake. We ordered to-go, and got the "Family Kabob Combo", 2 skewers. Since we're not big fans of their chicken, we subbed one of the chicken skewers for two Koobideh (with an upcharge of $6) and one Salmon skewer (with another upcharge of $5). The total was $45.97 + Tax ($3.56), grand total of $49.53. This would have been OK, if they gave you a reasonable amount of food for what you pay. Instead, we got a large container of rice, and two small containers of meat and vegetables. Unfortunately, as you can see from the photos, what you get meat-wise is basically extremely skimpy. The two Koobideh skewers weighed a total of 10 OZ. That's TWO of them together (see photo), not one, they weighed only 5 OZ each - barely more than a quarter pound hamburger. The Salmon "skewer" had a total of 5 pieces of salmon, each weighing only 0.8 OZ each, a total of 4 OZ! So what we got for the princely sum of $50 was 14 OZ of meat total - less than a pound, and a whole lot of rice, which costs them next to nothing. If you look at a lot of the older photos of the Koobideh skewers here on Yelp, you can see how much they have shrunk in just a few short years. My guesstimate is they're 50% smaller than they used to be, I know for sure since I bought them in the past that they used to be much larger. The price has increased 35% since we last ate here a couple of years ago, and you get 50% less food for that money, losing on both ends of the transaction. We feel cheated, to say the least. It's too bad, since we do like the taste of the food itself, it hasn't changed - what has changed is the value for what you pay. It isn't worth what they're charging for such a little bit of food (many other restaurants have gone the same way, sad to say). We won't be eating there ever again after this experience, it's impossible to enjoy a meal when you know you're being ripped off. read more

Panini Kabob Grill used to be one of my favorite restaurants, but unfortunately the food quality and customer service have gone noticeably downhill. I've been a frequent customer for years, which is why this review is disappointing to write. Over my last few visits, the food has not tasted fresh, and the service has lacked the care and quality the restaurant used to provide. The koobideh kabobs I once loved no longer taste fresh, and during one visit the pasta sauce was watery and disappointing. I've also noticed many recent negative Yelp reviews that management does not seem to acknowledge or respond to. Tonight's experience was the worst yet. We came here to celebrate my brother-in-law's graduation with a family dinner for eight people, expecting the good food and service this restaurant was once known for. Instead, the steak skewers in our family meal came out almost raw and bloody inside -- completely undercooked and unsafe to serve. When we complained, the restaurant took the same meat back to the kitchen, recooked it, and brought it back out. Since we had already started eating from the platter, having the same meat returned felt unappetizing. On top of that, it took nearly 30 minutes for the replacement to come back, and by then the rest of the table had already finished eating. I spoke with the manager, and the initial resolution offered was one free tiramisu for a party of eight. After I explained that a single dessert did not make up for serving raw meat and making us wait so long, they offered one additional tiramisu. That response felt completely inadequate given the situation. Most restaurants would have removed the item from the bill or offered a meaningful discount. Instead, this experience showed very little accountability or concern for customer satisfaction and food safety It's unfortunate to see a restaurant that was once consistently good decline this much. Panini Kabob Grill needs stronger management, better customer service, fresher food, and more attention to customer feedback -- including responding to the growing number of negative reviews. And they really need to bring their garlic sauce back... it drastically enhanced the meal. Without it, the food falls a bit flat. read more

I have never been impressed with the quality of the food at this location. The location I normally go to in OC is much better. Today, against my best judgement m, I decided to give it another try. Rice was dry and not fully cooked, the koobideh was cold and old. There was loud Mexican music playing on the sound system and all the staff were talking Spanish very loud. If you are coming with a group then family style is the way to go. Great portion for 4 people, always leftovers. Comes with a good quantity of meat and 2 salads. It's a lot of food so she knows there will always be enough to take home. The basmati rice is always perfect but the magic they do with the onions and tomatoes is something I've never experienced. I had the Chicken Pesto Panini with the lentil soup. (Love lentils). A big sandwich that is easily one of the best sandwiches ever. Bread toasted perfectly stuffed with chicken. The food was good, but unfortunately the service was very poor. The waiter (a young man wearing glasses) seemed angry while taking our order, and the female staff member was not in a better mood either. It was clear that they do not enjoy their job and are only working for the paycheck. When someone works at a job they don't like--especially in a restaurant--it shows in the way customers are treated. We did not feel comfortable in that place. The prices are completely different from their location in Irvine. Even small requests or simple modifications to the food result in extra charges on the bill, whereas their Irvine branch does not do that. We finished our meal quickly. I asked for to-go boxes to take the remaining food with me, but no one responded, so I had to go and get them myself. After that, I asked the girl for bags to put the boxes in. She said she would bring them, but unfortunately she never did, so once again I had to get them myself. In my opinion, this restaurant is only suitable for people who want to serve themselves, because you will not receive much service here. I finally made it to experience the purported awe of this place. Considering I hadn't eaten all day, it didn't take me long to order the Shrimp Kabob w/ Basmati rice, Mediterranean salad, and a side of spicy hummus. I missed out on the aesthetic of the kabob being on a skewer because the shrimp and veggies were simply placed purposefully in the box. The shrimp, advertised as "jumbo prawns," didn't really give jumbo at all, but they were definitely a good size for my petite pallet. They were full of flavor, yet, a salt shake away from being too salty. The Basmati rice, was tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed the grilled onions and tomatoes. The green peppers could've cooked a little longer. My salad had way too many tomatoes and cucumbers, hardly any onion, and the most disappointing part was that there were zero Kalamata olives. You may be wondering why it was disappointing. Well, first it's not very Mediterranean if one of the primary components is missing. And, secondly, I specifically asked if the salad actually contained olives, and was told that it did. I would have made a different selection had I known there would be none. So, yes, I missed out on that too. Their dressing with the olives would've complimented each other quite well. The spicy hummus was delicious. Although the gentleman mentioned it being a four ounce serving when taking my order, it's more like maybe a 2 oz. serving in a 4 oz. container. So, if you really enjoy hummus like I believe you will the one served here, keep that in mind. Moving on from the food... It's a nice restaurant, different than what I expected, and very clean and comfortable. Everyone I encountered seemed full of energy and pleasant. It was refreshing to see restaurant workers move in a manner which displays enjoyment for what they do. I was told, there was one couples' to go order ahead of me when I arrived. I thought my wait would be minimal. However, I waited for a little over 30 minutes. Acknowledging my extended wait, one of the Expeditors eventually apologized to me for wait, and said. "Your food is ready, we're just waiting on the salad." About 10 minutes later the salad arrived. I then watched as he placed it the bag, it dangling from his hand as he asked another worker if he found the order of a customer a delivery driver came to pick up. As they stared at the screen, I wondered how long it would take for him to turn around and hand me the bag. Eventually, he did, apologizing again. Anyway, one thing I am going to do is tell the entire "story" surrounding my visit. None of the above scenario was a turnoff for me. And, I already know what I want to dine-in and try next. Unfortunately, my experience at this location was very disappointing. I ordered a beef and chicken plate and found a piece of latex glove in my food, which is completely unacceptable and concerning. That's something you don't expect anywhere, especially at a restaurant. It's disappointing because this location is in Victoria Gardens, an otherwise great area with plenty of food and shopping options. My family and I had an early lunch here. It's in the mall and very visible from the street. The restaurant is pretty casual and pretty clean. We arrived at opening so there were lots of tables open and we were seated immediately. Our server was okay. She didn't really seem happy to be there but she got our orders correct. The food was also out at a reasonable time. We ordered the family meal of chicken kabob, basmati rice, two salads, and vegetables. The chicken was pretty moist (not dry) and seasoned well. Panini Kabob Grill is inspired by Persian cuisine; however, waiters are not Persian so you can't get a good customer service experience in panini kabob. For example if you go to an Iranian restaurant they are very welcoming and friendly but in panini you're still working on your food and a waiter ( without asking you ) just bring your bill. I think it's their training that they didn't teach their employees to not be rude because there are too many different choices in the area and they should be thankful for their customers spending their money in their restaurant. Oh my gosh what a gem! We accidentally stumbled on this place because the place we were going across the street was closed for renovations. It was insanely good and the portions are hearty! Today was our anniversary, and unfortunately our experience at Panini Grill was very disappointing. When we arrived, we were told the wait time would be 30 minutes. After 45 minutes, we checked back and were then told that five parties were still ahead of us. Because of this confusion, we left and went to the food court. After 1 hour and 10 minutes, we received a message saying our table was finally ready. A more accurate wait-time estimate would have helped us make better decisions and avoid unnecessary frustration--especially on a special occasion. We went to this place over the weekend for dinner, and unfortunately the experience was pretty disappointing. As soon as we walked in, I noticed the AC either wasn't on or wasn't working--it was uncomfortably hot inside. When we started ordering, I wanted a beef kebab wrap, but I was told wraps can only be made with koobideh kebab. That didn't make much sense since they have chicken, beef, and other options listed on the menu. I ended up ordering the shredded steak sandwich, and when it arrived it was very dry with no sauce at all. I asked for ketchup, but they didn't have any--no ketchup, garlic paste, mustard, or barbecue sauce. They also don't serve fries, which was surprising. The waiter was very kind and did his best to help, offering tzatziki sauce, but it just didn't work with the sandwich. The customer service was genuinely friendly, but the menu and food need serious improvement. If a restaurant is presenting itself as Mediterranean, it should at least offer garlic paste and a proper Mediterranean dressing for the salad. Serving a "Mediterranean salad" with balsamic dressing really misses the mark. Overall, the staff was nice, but the food and menu choices were disappointing, and not even having something as basic as ketchup was frustrating.
